  • In today’s video we are going to do our weekly wrap up of the prices and give a shout out to Mathew that took some advice to jump onto the main crew from a Diamond Driller Offsider, well done. This week’s lesson covers, making a plan for one of our Workready students. The industry has changed a lot in the last 12 months and I have a look at the BBC article about driverless trucks again. Then I will do a job hunt video using the titles Underground, Truck Driver Mining, Driller Offsider, Mining Traineeship and Utility.
    Prices, we look at Gold, Coal, Iron Ore and Copper (1.35)
    The lesson today is about making a plan to get a mining job (4.10)
    Job hunt, the titles we will look at, Underground, Truck Driver Mining, Driller Offsider, Mining Traineeship and Utility. (16.05)
    As always it pays to know how the system works to take advantage of it. Knowing how the mine works, is the skill all the employers want, that most New Starters over look when trying to get their first job.

    Hey Andrew, do most sites have some sort of camp / accommodation for workers or would you need to pay for a motel or something?
    It looked like a lot of the ad that you went through on this video didn't make mention of fifo or dido?

      @@ryanking166 hi Ryan, to answer your question most sites have on-site accommodation that you stay at while you are working and then you go and have your time off at home whether that is fly in fly out to get you there or drive in drive out to get you there. It's up to the employer
      If the mines located near a big country town, then often they are looking for people to reside in the town where they won't offer accommodation. You'll have to find your own but it normally says that in the job ads but most of the big mines around the country all have on-site accommodation that they can put people in
      Hope that answers your question

      @AustralianMiningforNewStarters thanks for the reply mate. So from what you're saying - am I right in thinking that unless the job add says "Residential Only" it's pretty safe to assume accommodation is included?
      Also, sorry to be annoying but as far as medicals go - in your experience, would someone who is deaf in one ear be knocked back? Thanks again.

      @ryanking166 yes, it's pretty safe to say if it doesn't say residents only then they normally supply accommodation, but it's always something that you can ask in the interview
      Being deaf in one ear shouldn't hold you back. I work with a lot of guys that were deaf over the years. They're more worried about people losing their hearing than people that have already lost their hearing
      There's more information in the training about how it all works, but you should be right as long as you've got hearing in one ear
      If you haven't had a look at the DIY package that we do, you should have a look at that before you jump in the deep end. It's got a lot of information in there that'll make it a lot easier to get the job and keep the job
      Hope that info helps

    Hey Andrew, I just got a job for a diamond Driller offsider, I was just curious is it always underground or can it be above as well, and also what ones harder?

    • @AustralianMiningforNewStarters
      @AustralianMiningforNewStarters  2 месяца назад +1

      @@michael2442 it's normally in an underground mine where they do the diamond drilling, but we've had situations where they've put the diamond drillers up on the surface when the ore body is still closer to the surface
      The only downside of being on the surface is getting sunburned and all the flies. You don't get that in the underground mine
      Hope that answers your question

      @ thank you very much, is it always an entry level or traineeship sometimes, also does the course you offer just do info about the mind sites, I don’t need the resume or job packages one

    • @AustralianMiningforNewStarters
      @AustralianMiningforNewStarters  2 месяца назад +1

      @@michael2442 yes Michael, the information that you need to know about your job and what everybody else does around you is in the first four courses that make up the training. It's only the seminar that contains the info to do your resume. The DIY package is the cheapest way to buy the four courses as you get a discount down to the $495
      There's information in basic mine site operation, nipper and other important duties and the service crew that you need to know to be a diamond driller offsider
      It'll give you a fair bit of knowledge that you won't get through your employer and it'll also give you options if you want to go do something else after 6 months
      Hope that info helps
