    Love this video. I had a fish delivered but it came while I was at work…… I sent this video to my wife who was home but she was very nervous & panicking. This video calmed her nerves so much & showed her exactly what to do & how it’s done!!! Wow ! She became relaxed & she got the job done in the end ! Love how you were saying for people to relax & that it’s not that big of a deal …… Super proud of her LOL …. Thank you for the video ! God Bless !!!!

    I read some advice that was simply telling me to acclimate the fish, but eventually I ran into the type of people you described telling me that I had to do it in a very specific way. Thanks for clearing that up. I’ve also heard that doing any type of drip acclimation especially when the fish have been shipped is very dangerous due to the ammonia buildup, etc in the bag. Once it’s exposed to the air it becomes extremely toxic. No drip acclimation for me thanks. If for whatever reason I think it’s necessary then I’ll only be doing it for pet shop bought fish.

    I'm so glad I found these videos. I'm new to the tank world but love it. Have a 40 gal that I'm struggling with ammonia and nitrites with. When I started I thought you buy a tank add water and add fish. Easy!!! Well as we both know, I was way wrong. But I do love a challenge!!!! I found your videos yesterday and have now subscribed to your podcast! Thank you for making these videos. And look forward to contacting you for questions and comments once I "figure out my issues" with ammonia and nitrite.

    I do it exactly the same way and have been doing it that way since around 1983 when I got into the hobby. I find it amusing when I see people explain all these hour long steps to acclimate a fish to a new tank. I recall reading one of the big pet stores stating that it's harmful to net your fish and put it in the tank, yet they net the fish to sell it to you. Go figure. KISS.

    Hi! My tank is a few months old and therefore cycled. I' buy new fish from local fish store. How quickly should I add/release it to my tank/quarantine tank. Reason is I bought a few neon tetras recently and most of them died within a couple of days after releasing them the way you show in vide. The release is good as per your instruction but why did they die so quickly. Maybe I have them too long in bag from store after releasing. Not sure as I'm very new to the hobby

    Thanks for the video. Question: If there's somewhat of a sizable change in pH from the water the fish was in, compared to the water in the new tank, won't that potentially have a very negative affect on the fish? Thanks

    hey man, i appreciate the excellent information you provide for the public, there is definitely a lot more healthier, happier fish in tanks thanks to the info.. I'm getting back into the hobby and Im wondering how I should set this up, I have a 2 inch blue jack dempsey alone in a 55g, with two aqua clear 110's with just sponge and loaded with tons of sachem matrix, I swear by this stuff and the AC's.. also, a new 75g empty, I'm trying to decide if my new very small african cichlids (7 of them) should go in the 55g and the ebjd in the 75 or vice versa. currently they're in a 29g till I make the transfer.. I'm new to africans so your vids are very informative.. My issue is if I put the ebjd in the 75, what friend or friends should I put in with him for the least stress, I know they're very fragile and I want to see him through to good health and growth.. also, if I add the small africans to the 55g, and jd to the 75, will an AC110 and AC70 be sufficient for the 55g african tank? the plan is to keep the filters wet and filled to maintain bacteria for this swap and transfer

    I am a subscriber and I love you guys' channel but I am 100% shocked with this revelation! Lol! I believe you and I'm prepared to slightly speed up my acclimation process (like 20 min float 20 minutes broken up into 5 min capful doses of my tank water) to get my fish ready but I've been doing this for 20 years (you have 3 years on me, lol) I am both shocked *and* intrigued) by your acclimation method. I would think that water parameters like ph & No3 would be a shock if they're way different but I do believe you ...... very interesting

      Me too but my fish didn't have a problem with John's method. A spectacular discovery. I am perplexed though because I've always been told to drip acclimatize fish. But if He's been doing it for that long and none of his fish had a problem that speaks volumes right there!

    How long can you leave a fish in a bag after you've bought it at a store? Reason I ask is, I want to stock my office aquarium, so I wondered if it would be OK if I bought fish on the way home, then brought them to work with me the following morning.

    • @karebearsanimalhouse7195

      They have enough air for about 24 hours (I believe) but it's the temps you'd need to worry about. You could just buy them on the way to work one morning , or look up how to properly pack and ship freshwater fish to get intructions

    • @KGTropicals
      @KGTropicals  9 лет назад +1

      +Joshua Salandy acclimating brackish fish is a totally different thing if you're going to introduce them into a totally fresh water tank. I actually don't keep any brackish fish so I might not be the best to advise you on how to do that.

      +Chris Gill I had my store for 2 years and in that time we used this method with hundreds of GBRs and Neons, it was never a problem. Discus too. When Discus Hans receives a shipment of $50,000 worth of Discus guess how he acclimates them? Yep, just like I did. People are scared of those fish but trust me acclimation is the last thing you should be scared of.

      Do exactly the same thing but put the new fish in quarantine tank at least 14 days. If u got ur fish from your friend who u truth, u can by pass the quarentine process. But any fish from public store should 100% go to quarentine tank first.
