  • Hey everyone, I am thrilled to be watching the first movie in the John Wick franchise today, I have heard so many amazing things about it and I personally have been looking forward to this moment for a long time now. Thank you for coming along and seeing my reaction!
Legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) retired from his violent career after marrying the love of his life. Her sudden death leaves John in deep mourning. When sadistic mobster Iosef Tarasov (Alfie Allen) and his thugs steal John's prized car and kill the puppy that was a last gift from his wife, John unleashes the remorseless killing machine within and seeks vengeance. Meanwhile, Iosef's father (Michael Nyqvist) -- John's former colleague -- puts a huge bounty on John's head.

The beautiful thing about when John is about enter the Red Circle and he lets Francis go, it's because Francis did him a favor. They're not actually talking about Francis losing weight. Francis using code to tell John how many guards are inside. That's why John lets him go. 😉

I love the chop shop scenes. If you look at the folks working there, they all react to what's going on. For example, when the guy pulls the gun on Aurelio, watch the guys in the back, they all pick up wrenches and other tools. That's why the other guy puts his hand on the gun to put it down... he realizes that getting out alive might require work. Also, when John walks into the chop shop, all the mechanics stop what they're doing and watch him because they know who he is and why he's there.

Just a note on Marcus taking the contract even though he's John's friend: before he accepts the contract, he asks if it's exclusive, meaning would other people also be trying to kill John. Only then does he accept, so that he can have a cover reason to be near John and protect him.

Remember Markus said he was his friend, so when Viggo came to him and offered the "OPEN" contract, Markus didn't want anyone else getting to john, so he said he would do it
    only to protect john.

Absolutely love how John Wick was introduced. His backstory is left to the imaginations of the viewers, but we're given sprinklings of knowledge to know he is an unstoppable killer. And he's not completely without mercy; as long as you don't get in his way, he's willing to let you go, but his target is a dead man walking. I think there was supposed to be a deleted scene where a number of hit men and assassins turn down the $2,000,000 bounty on Wick; either out of fear, respect, or believing 2 million is not worth going after him.
Don't know if you've ever seen The Dark Knight trilogy, but it seems like the took some aspects of Heath Ledger's Joker and put it into John Wick; from the well tailored suit, to the massive body count, to even killing people with a pencil.

Great reaction all the way through. The beagle was a trained acting dog named Andy. After the movie, the beagle was given away to the trainer's friend and her children and was renamed Wick. It also got to come to the set of John Wick 3 for a visit. It didn't die in real life in case there was any question about that.

It should be noted that 1) the director, a former stuntman himself, had to fight to keep that scene in the movie; and 2) the actor whose character killed the dog was so sad after the scene that he played with it every chance he got.

John Wick is a masterpiece IMO. The set up, the mood, the soundtrack and how they built this parallel assassin's world so effortlessly. I love how they let you know who John is with little bits of background info. Not too much, not too little. And the action is awesome. Knowing that Keanu did most of it himself makes it even cooler and allows for longer shots and realism. I just love it. I can watch that movie another 100 times I think.

The reason John tells Francis to take the night off. Is due to Francis telling John how many guards there are inside.
    John: "you've lost weight "
    Francis "60 kilograms "
This according the Kevin Nash (the actor playing Francis) was code for how many guards were inside.

When Iosef was running from John in the Red Circle, and John was shooting the glass walls out, he missed Iosef on purpose. John is a predator, and he was playing with his kill, especially for what Iosef did to John's dog and car.

@@alinadornieden8411 the glass was thick, but certainly not bulletproof. For one the bullets went through each pane, and two, the shatter pattern on the glass is inconsistent with bulletproof glass. It is, however, consistent with safety glass.

Keanu was professionally trained to shoot with different weapons by Taran Tactical so he really developed this skills, they also went for the realism to the point of counting the bullets and reload so it is accurete, they created very detailed underworld that gets revealed more and more in each movie with it`s rules like Continental being safe grounds and the place the coins take etc so you don`t just watch for the action but to understand the world they are in. Markus couldn`t say no because for sure he would`ve been shot so he doesn`t contact John

It's funny how other reactors thought Marcus "missed" not once, but twice 😂
Also, John didn't kill Perkins because they were on Continental grounds and she got revoked because she killed Harry. She probably would have been just banned from The Continental for the attempt on John.

@@tfred4126 I don't think they're particularly underrated. Almost everyone that knows them, loves them. What they are is underseen. Then again, they're probably more seen than all other films from Indonesia put together. Plus, they've been a great calling card for most involved: Iko Uwais and Yayan Ruhian became the stunt coordinators for Star Wars, Gareth Evans went on to make Apostle and Gangs of London (though he deserves to be one of the biggest directors around) and Iko got his Netflix show, a steady stream of films and Night Comes for Us, another great actioner, alongside Joe Taslim, also from The Raid.

Viggo said, when John Wick wanted out, he gave him an "impossible" task. And, "The bodies he buried that day - laid the foundation for what we are today." THAT'S why John burns up Viggo's stash in the church. It's also why John goes on a warpath, killing Viggo's men, & any other's responding to the contract on John. Because he wanted out. He got out. So he wasn't interested in what that life has to offer. And then he got dragged back in, by none other than Viggo's son, whom Viggo did not raise to fear or respect anyone, & did not teach him about the legacy of John, who helped build Viggo's empire. John could justifiably destroy Viggo's empire, because he built it. He's not interested in keeping ANYTHING of Viggo's, & not in it for greed, or to hold anything over any bodies head like Viggo.
About Perkins, membership revoked by thine own hands, because she broke the rules by "trying to kill John", & successfully killed the black guy, after John spared her, & whom she was not even contracted to kill.

I don't know if you ever watched the show "The Orville", but the actress that plays Perkins is second in command on that show.
Answering which one was your favorite is kind of like asking which you like better Mexican food or Italian. There is really no way to answer. Each John Wick movie builds on the last and they are equally good if not better.
Also, as to your question, "why didn't he just shoot John knowing what he was all about?" This is a classic movie trope that I always complain about. Either the evil person sits there telling the hero their master plan only for them to escape knowing what they are going to do, or they leave their henchmen to do the dirty work with everyone knowing they are going to fail! But then again it wouldn't be much of a movie if they were dead though, right?

Viggo lost his chance because he wanted to vent his frustrations to John’s face. That cost him the kill. You see from Viggo’s characterization, he’s not exactly the most rational person. Though, to give the movie credit, if Marcus wasn’t willing to protect John, he’d be dead.
