    Another great video. Functionally this new park assist is worse than my 2012 nissan note.
    Positives
    - it loads instantly on starting the car, unlike the previous version
    - it doesn't beep like the world is ending, like the pervious version
    - the road marking detection is genuinely useful
    - it's technically clever, assuming it's using the occupancy network as it can render things it can't see.. and it's able to render things to a surprisingly high resolution - not that I care about that when parking.
    negatives
    - it fails to engage most of the time when not in a traditional car park. No idea why.
    - It's wildly inaccurate - it will still render things over the top of my car, which it thinks I've bonded with at the molecular level...
    - the audible alerts aren't played back from relevant speakers (back left, for example if I'm close to something on the back left)
    - it hallucinates as much as the prior version, seeing wheely bins over my driveway...
    - doesn't work if there's sun glaring in to a camera, off the road, or both
    Overall, I still think the cameras mapped to a 360 degree view, as per every other car, would be more useful than what we have now. The grey on white/black just looks like a world war 2 era radar, and can be more confusing than anything, and the audible alerting means i HAVE to keep looking at the display and not my surroundings. awful.
    This update should have given us something genuinely useful, for example
    - wipers that actually wipe the screen when its raining
    - indicators that a) work when pressed 100% of the time, and b) don't forget to cancel on most junctions
    - re-enabled the disabled EAP features that have now been absent for the best part of 18 months

    Well the park assist is better than the previous useless version but I'm struggling to see why its better than a decent 360°C camera view.

    • @Chris-mh3vf
      @Chris-mh3vf 5 месяцев назад +13

      Very underwhelming why no 360 view, why no improvement to auto lights why no improvement to auto wipers, blind spot warning has been on cars for years, I could plan trips and send them to my nav system easier with a Tom Tom 12 years ago, and the autopilot changes have been imposed on Tesla by legislation, I have to admit that after 3 years and over 80 thousand miles I may be looking elsewhere when changing, in my opinion they are making the cars worse!

    Tens of thousands of hours of engineering effort, latest technology (in house at Tesla), and years of effort…and, they’ve created a parking system that is less accurate than USS, and always will be (if vision only was ever good enough, people wouldn’t have used USS in the first place). Amazing how much ego stunts actual progress.

    • @SirDragonClaw
      @SirDragonClaw 5 месяцев назад

      You are greatly misinformed. USS was all we had in the past because computer vision algorithms were in their infancy, and compute power on vehicles was limited. Eventually every car will just rely on vision rather than USS as it can be many times more accurate.
      Another way to think of it is USS is a good as it will ever get, whereas with vision we are only about 70% of the way though the implementation curve.

    • @HaikHakopyan
      @HaikHakopyan 5 месяцев назад

      Vision is only worse then USS because the software is not ready. Benefits of Vision is that it can get better overtime which it has. Eventually will be better than USS.

    It processes the video feeds and maps the surroundings including parking bays and lines in real time. It's incredible as a first release how well it works. Still needs a front bumper camera though.
    Anyway interesting video thanks guys!

    • @mps9994
      @mps9994 5 месяцев назад +4

      They could just use the video feed rather than processing it and show that. As it is, we just have a complete mess of white clouds and the occasional outline of 'something' that may or may not be there. Moving away from tried and tested systems is all well and good if they improve them and benefit the consumer. As it is, it's just a mess.

    • @kevinwhite8836
      @kevinwhite8836 5 месяцев назад +6

      Cars have had a good birds eye camera for years now and Tesla's version is poor considering how good the other software is (lights and wipers excluded).
      They need a front bumper sensor or camera. No amount of software can overcome this. They can map out as you drive yes, but if you stop and the start again and something is low down or say a child walks in front of you close by, it will not be able to pick it up, how could it 🤷.
      Using cameras so high in the windscreen for front parking was a huge oversight. Using them in conjunction with sensors was fine as it covers objects beneath line of sight.

    My M3 was built in Shanghai in Feb 2023 and it still has parking sensors. I only got some features in this upgrade to parking visualisation. I have improved visualisation of surrounding cars, but not walls or doorways. I also have the turning lines showing where the car will go with the steering wheel turned. I also still have the distance to surrounding objects showing in cms.
    Also, on your dash in the space where the air vents are, there was a screen showing a number (often it said 80) and there was a red light to the right of the number. I've never seen this before - what is this screen? Thank you.

      Are you sure you didn't buy an inventory car that was actually built in 2022? Tesla Shanghai stopped fitting the USS on the cars in October 2022.

    Loving the High Fidelity Park Assist on my '23 M3 and the wealth of others from this holiday update. However, I noticed one omission that was there prior to the update, and that is the 2D obstacle outline. I'm referring to the one that would work all the way up to like 17 or 18 mph and would outline curbs, car outlines next to you in slow moving traffic, obstacles, etc.
    Now as soon as the speedo hits 4 mph, the new sweet looking 3D view switches off with no "visual" obstacle detection past that 4 mph whatsoever. It was extremely helpful for me personally, especially when I was entering and exiting certain locations in my area, and not quite being able to see (with my two eyes) exactly where the curb is in relation to my wheels. I know....I know....I should be a better driver, but it was a luxury I grew accustomed to.
    I hope they find some way to bring it back (but better of course 😉) with a sooner rather than later future update. Another nice addition for this High Fidelity Park Assist would be for it to be allowed to function at the very least up to 10mph. 🤞🤞

    • @powersurge6878
      @powersurge6878 5 месяцев назад

      You can park between the lines just by looking in the mirrors, that's not the car's fault. You were relying on the bird's eye view on your previouse car and that's why you can't park it properly. Using the cameras alone would definitely help with parking between the lines without the need for parking sensors. One simple solution if you don't like it.

    • @rudysche

      Impossible to park in front since there is simply no camera in front of the car like it is the case with Volvo, polestar and any other carmaker who have some respect for the customer. Together with the ghostbraking, the wrong speedlimit reading, the bad rain sensor or lack of it, the continious ihpone key connection problems, the autopilot wrong messages look in front of you. I understand that they dropped the price . This was my first and last Tesla.

    I really think this year's holiday update falls a long way short of the mark. We all know Tesla and their bold claims v's the eventual reality that's delivered in some areas... especially as owners.
    1. Tesla vision high fidelity 3D visualisation - This is probably what Tesla was aiming to deliver on day 1 of non-ultrasonic cars, however the reality of that is clearly harder to deliver than the promise. 1 year later, we have a kind of 3D mapping around the car that at best looks "OK" but 70% of the time looks like mush where objects are so poorly defined they merge into a single blob in the representation. For example, yesterday in a typical UK situation, cars parked on both sides of street, i needed to reverse into a gap... Representation on the screen of the line of cars on both sides of the road was just a solid blob of grey, even though there was a 2 car length gap that could be reversed into. Additionally to this, have you noticed that the distance to object counters have now vanished.... So for non-ultrasonic (vision only) cars, what was a poorly implemented distance to object counter, that could be used as a rough estimate, has now been replaced with a 3D rendered world that provides no "real world" useful information ie: if you dont have the situational awareness of objects within 15 meters of your car, you really shouldn't be driving, however fine control of a manoeuvre close to an object within 30cm, is exactly what these systems are for "car obstructed objects while parking", and exactly what the update fails to deliver on. Everyone seems to be swooning over this feature, but take a logical look at it for a second, its a gimmick, it is not a solution to the parking system accuracy issue the vision cars have, guaranteed if you rely on it, your going to need your bumpers painted in 2024!
    2. Speed cameras on your route - I can be quick about this one, total trash! I did a 110 mile round trip on Tuesday 19/12/2023 after the update, the navigation showed just 2 of the 8 known cameras on that round trip. Not only that, the icon is tiny, and no notification chime, no notification on the visualisation side of the screen, no distance to camera, nothing.. In its current form, this isn't even a feature, i think the Tesla developers need to come and drive in the UK or other European countries (that allow camera identification) for a week, then they will understand the problem, we have cameras EVERYWHERE, some roads you can be passing one camera and already see the next one in front of you. If a Tesla employee reads this... Please hire a Volvo XC90 for a masterclass on how this feature should be implemented, then go reverse engineer it or add your Tesla fairy dust and make it even better than Volvos.
    3. Apple Podcast - Works great except one issue, when you come back to the car, say 30 minutes after leaving it, the podcast is 30 minutes further in, so seems if the car is awake (if you use sentry mode, or its charging), and you didn't press "pause" when leaving the car, it just keeps playing in the background until you are back. Apple music use to do this and it was eventually fixed, so i have faith.
    4. Multi-Stop trip planner in the Tesla app - Perfect
    5. Blind spot camera red outside boarder - Yeah ok, but really... doesn't the big car in the middle of the frame kind of give it away... I feel this is miss-implementation again, the reason cars have the red flashing light somewhere on the mirror or the mirror mount is that when casually indicating most people do the reverse of what they are taught, in that they indicate then a split second later check their mirror... the immediate red flashing of a blind spot waring system is to subconsciously halt you from committing to the rest of the manoeuvre. This whole process is somewhat negated when the moment you indicate you are shown the car in your mirror immediately.... having a red boarder down one side of that frame is totally irrelevant at that point.
    6. Autopilot Suspension - This one has to be a joke right? So i am driving on a motorway in the UK (M20), totally straight section for miles, after about 30 seconds i get a nag to provide steering input.. So let me get this completely clear.... Travelling at 70mph on a straight motorway Autopilot wants me to gently keep moving the steering about so it doesn't deactivate, and if i dont, it will eventually ban me for a week for 5 forced disengagements. This is dangerous, you are being asked to provide steering input where it's not required and at high speed! I also noticed that in relatively normal rainy conditions the standard cruise and autopilot insist on keep slowing the car down, so flow of traffic is 70mph, visibility is approximately three quarters of a mile, or as far as the next bend, and the car wants to slow down to 50... again this in itself is causing a potentially unsafe situation on a motorway in my opinion. Just for disclosure, the 2 Tesla's I have owned were both optioned with enhanced autopilot, it was never that great in the first place, now it's borderline completely unusable in the real world.
    7. More cameras in live view - this doesn't even seem like its been done right, the pillar cameras should also be included in the grid view of all cameras, or even the app have an option to select which cameras are in your grid view, maybe this is a software. processor, or bandwidth limitation, but just seems fudged on for now. More importantly, what's even the point of this without sentry live view... I hope that's what Tesla are working towards, us viewing the cameras is pretty pointless other than as a party trick unless Tesla pushes the sentry notifications to our phone real time... then live view becomes a meaningful and truly helpful feature.
    Matrix headlight functionality - Whereas that 😁 The Model 3 that I bought in September 2021 had the physical matrix lights fitted... 2 years and 3 months later, still nothing to activate them. .. Yet a fart sound on locking seems to be a priority... Hmmm
    Dear Tesla, please start delivering truly meaningful updates/function. For this holiday update, I would have taken a thoroughly tested and vetted (trial and feedback from customers) 2 features - Matrix lights and Speed Camera identification with distance to camera warnings on the visualisation side of the screen... over all these poorly implemented / pointless features.

      @@mps9994 and how will you know how close an obstacle is from a video? I often park in reverse and when I look how far I actually parked there is still room to go because you can't tell the distance very well. Look, it's not perfect of course but it's getting better. I mean last week it wasn't even a feature 🤷🏻‍♂️

      My last car had USS and 360 birds eye view and it was perfect. Video with USS worked like a dream. I could see via the 360 view parking bay lines, curbs and other obstacles. Obviously I still have the reverse camera on the M3 but I would never ever trust the visualisation over a live camera feed. My wife's Leaf 360 system is better than this.
      I get that they're working on it, and that's great, but as with many other things, Tesla have taken a different approach when they needent have. The wipers for instance, are so bad compared to my old car. The high beam assist is also terrible. So much so that I have turned it off as it often dazzles other drivers.
      I so love my car, but it would be so much better if they had just stuck to conventional systems as per other marques. Again, form over function. Moving away from tried and tested systems and replacing them with over complex solutions that just don't work as well.

    Still the worst park assist on the market. Any 360 birds eye view is better than this junk.

    5:32 You remove the camera just as the graphics is about to show you collide even if your not. I'd call it useless and still unbelievable a manufacturer can be allowed to release so flawed software as they have done after the "Vision" downgrade, even ruining the cars that got radars by disabling them so new customers wont recognize how terrible their new "Vision" car is. Wipers, "auto"-dim, AutoPilot...So flawed and not this 5 warnings and your out? Yet another very clear downgrade and flawed due to Tesla going the cheapest possible way by having people to steer actively as a way of sensing there is hands on wheel instead of a pulse sensor like anyone else use. Cheap and on top of that your an unvolunteered betatester on Elons kindergarten will.
