Have you ever been driving down the road in your Jeep and feel the irresistible urge to leave the pavement? Maybe you have wondered where a dirt road leads to, or just wanted to shift the transfer case into low range. If you are like us, these are regularly occurring urges. But, if you are like us, at least one of these spontaneous trips has ended in dehydration, sunburn, or worse. As a result of this… let’s call it “experience”, we now have certain items that we carry with us 24/7, even when we are just driving around town.
These are ten items that we carry in every vehicle we own. They don’t take up much room, and they don’ cost very much either. In fact, all ten can be purchased for under $100. We are assuming that you already have things like a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, fullsize spare tire, and a jack that can lift your vehicle. Those are the kind of big ticket items we consider insurance; you carry them but hope that you don’t have to use them. This story is more about the things that we use on a regular basis, and wonder how we ever got by without them. For the consumable items, when we use them we put the wrapper in our pocket or cup holder to remind us to replace the item that was used once we get home.

A friend was one of the first on the scene of a motorcycle accident and saved the rider's life by using one of his ratchet straps as a tourniquet. Talk about a must have.

small to medium tarp. for shelter or to lay on when making repairs. we hate laying on snow/mud and no lost parts.

Maybe combine the Fire Extinguisher video with a quality First Aid kit that would be beneficial for the long trip down to Baja or multi day event.

Awesome pro tips Harry..! One thing I carry that I never say anything about is a little spray can of cheapo "Axe Body Spray" I can't stand smelling like swamp butt after a few days of being out, or if you've gotta use a Porta John, just spray a shot on the front of your shirt collar before you go in, and pull your shirt up to your nose... no more smell..

Ha! Trail items.. this is a moms purse everyday must haves! Minus the tire deflater, although that might be handy to get out of teaching the teens driving🤗

A big one for me is little nuts and bolts that I've had laying around. I've had multiple times where I've fixed something because of some bolt I left in my tool-bag by accident.

To go along with the multi tool. Especially for older vehicles. 1. A nut/screw driver, with a hollow handle to keep a 5/16 nut driver tip, #2 philips, and flat head tips. 2. 6 inch Cresent wrench and channel locks. Its almost amazing what I'm able to do on my old truck when doing small repairs with these tools from hose clamps to battery cables, wire connection, body panels, etc.

I'm maybe 6.5 out of ten, having only one ratchet strap...but I have two fire extinguishers! I like to have first aid kit and a towel at all times. Good stuff. Keep it up.

Towel is a good idea. In summer i keep a kit with towels and swimsuits for the kids. I also have a cheap saddle blanket for a ground mat, cooler cover, shade, and it could be a scratchy towel too.

What's good about the handi wipes is even if they get dried out in an open pack they're still great for tying up wire looms or any cables that have drooped away and they're good for wiping grease and dirt off your hands even if there's no more moisture to them anymore
I've even used 3 of them together that had dried out in the package as a coffee filter before on the Rubicon.

Garbage bags! I see some sort of fabric laying on the ground behind you and having a garbage bag will make it easier to leave the wilderness cleaner than you found it. By the way, is that the Hunter Lake Trail you're on west of Reno? Nice view!
