I had mitral valve repair by open heart surgery 2 years ago, beforehand I was a nervous wreck but once I was knocked out I knew nothing about it. Yes I was in pain when I came around but after a week I was feeling great

Had mitral valve replaced two years ago. It takes about a year to fully recover. You won't be able to sleep laying down for a few months after surgery so invest in a nice armchair! Your sternum will be broken during surgery, that's what causes most of the pain. You also might turn into a 'pump head' from the heart/lung machine and lose a lot of your cognitive skills for awhile! Best wishes to anyone having this!! 😎

Do you have any tips or pointers on what I can buy or keep around the house to help with comfort and recovery? I will be looking after my boyfriend and it’s uncharted territory so any help is appreciated 🥰

@@Destinyofhearts I had Tricuspid Valve replacement open heart surgery, and Ed was right on the money. You definitely will need a nice recliner, because you absolutely can't lay down. Keep your legs elevated as well. The spirometer they give you to breathe is crucial that you follow their instructions and do it. Its painful but its very important. The heart pillow they give you is your best friend, you will see why after your surgery. Many blessings sent your way.

@@romaraj2492 Hey Ajay, don't let that get you down, you just haven't found the right person to love you. Trust me, a long life isn't guaranteed to anyone, we can't predict how long we will live, so live life to your fullest my friend, don't worry about the past or the future, live for today, that's why it's called the present, because it's a gift we all get when we wake up every morning. Be of good cheer, take good care.
