I love it! This documentary really shows all of the hard work that was put into this animation! I love watching The Devil and Daniel Mouse, so it was especially a treat to look back on exactly how it was made! I really enjoyed this!
Bauhaus brought me here. And watching it aged 8!!! 'My card, pretty lady...... oh, we always use blood, it's more permanent that way!' Burnt into my bones, thanks!
I really think some modern cgi animated movies should have been done in drawing. Some just look wayy better that way. Example: Treasure planet was mostly drawing, but they did use some cgi modeling, the difference is it was well placed. could you imagine how ugly the characters might have been in cgi. And i think a lot of movies are making that mistake today
Okay, call me a phan, but there are a few snips.... like the girl character on opening night, with the gown and the song, that kinda remind me of Phoenix in Phantom of the Paradise, as well as the multi-adjective description of the movie. Musical horror comedy... Fair is fair, though, Paul Williams was cuter than the devil in this flic. Then again, Swan was only WORKING for the devil. This guy IS the devil. The DEVIL as a MUSIC PRODUCER. Tasty, Daniel. Tasty!
Animation is so fascinating. Nothing like good cartoons to ease the mind.
I saw this on tv as a child and can genuinely say it changed me.
I Absolutely adored this short movie, You can tell alot of heart was put into it!

WOW!!! All I can say is: My hat's off to everyone involved in producing this, and many other animated classics out there! You are all amazing!!!
"And then, they sit down and DRAW" Well, that sure as hell is a rare occurrence nowadays in animation!!
Corporations don't dictate trends. Fuck Disney Studios and computer animation.
If only we could see it nowaday's oh god life is hell without the classics 😢 i spit on everything that's modern i hate i hate i hate
You need updates.
This is how animation used to be in the 20th century. Of course, in the present day, animation apps took over cel animation via 35mm film entirely.
Weasel's voice actor looks exactly how I would imagine him to look.
I was hoping there'd be the actor of BL Zebub doing a recording, but other than that, it's still amazing

Amazing the work they did on this! Thanks for posting!

A big hint at what Nelvana would do later that year... ...and in one of the redeeming things about an infamous television special.
Haha. Good catch!
thank u for posting this! love this animation
14:15 Their production frames originally all had tape on them! I thought that was damage after the fact.
Utterly fascinating!!
4:51 "It's me-- Mylar!"
This was the only Halloween special that scared the devil out of me as a kid.
'''Drats'' Workprint'?
What's that?
"Drats" was the original name for what became "Rock and Rule"... it's a long story, but a good one.
Only watched this to check if my DVD has any issues. Apparently a millisecond of noise is normal.
It's Filmed On A 35mm Film?
The live action portions are completely progressive on the DVD, so it must be.
Wow just found this. What can I say?

The Nelvana Studios of today BEARS NO RESEMBLANCE NOR HERITAGE TO THIS ORIGINAL.
Ironic, that this studio would be saved by Care Bears.
Sad.
Sadly true
I declare you free, I declare you free, I declare you free, I declare you free, I declare you free, I declare you free, I declare you free...
