    Hurray for slab reefing! This is my dream boat. Just look at that mechanical/engine room. Love the pilot house and chart table. Zero keel and Alpha rudder are the most logical ingredients I can imagine. And, it looks cool to boot!

    If only it was lighter and had a spade rudder. 18.2 tonnes lightship on a 45 ft waterline length is just too heavy & slow and increases loads on rig rudder & crew too much.

      She's not for racing but for cruising in maximum comfort and safety.

      It's lighter than the HR50 or the Allures 51.9, and the latter is aluminum. A spade rudder would be exactly opposite to Dick Beaumont's vision for the boat. I don't know if I would commission a K50, but I admire Beaumont's vision to zig while everyone else zags.

      @@SuperSventizeMe in practice is much easier to make a spade rudder strong than a skeg. Skegs are very difficult to laminate and attach. Metal reinforcement of skegs never works long term due to differential thermal expansion and differential aeration. It's impossible to bond grp to stainless and stainless is awful with no access to oxygen. Beaumont's skeg, like his keel is just marketing. He probably really believes it, but that doesn't mean it isn't bullsh*t.

      @@SuperSventizeMe" it's lighter than the HR50" but so is Worcester cathedral. And everything else. Heavy displacement just means very high steering and rig loads and lower performance.
