I feel like KFC had a really powerful headstart on this, then kind of panicked to beat FansToys to market and made some critical errors at the finish line.
That limbo pose made me LOL. All in all this made me very sad. Of all 3P Blitzwings, including the pending FT release, KFC nailed the sculpt and colors for me. For him to look so good and end up being junk is a heartbreaker. Bittersweet, but thanks for saving me on this one Bobby.
I appreciate the response about the knees vs heel spurs being the issue. I personally had trouble getting him to stand until I extended the heel spurs and it was much easier for me. However, the knee ratchets on my figure seem much stronger than those on your copy. They still aren't ideal, but he can stand fine. Sucks for buyers if the crappy knee ratchets are even worse on some copies.

one comment about video lengths, I don't think having them long is a detriment. You have a pretty good structure accessories, figure overview, articulation, transformation and then final thoughts. easy to skip around for figures Im on the fence about while I can watch the whole thing for ones that I really want to get. a (well deserved) rant at the end is always welcome and pretty entertaining IMO :)

Yeesh, that's a hot mess. Whats annoying is that one figure instantly undoes any memory of the previous progress they seemed to be making. Reps take a lifetime to build, but can be lost in an instant. Thanks for putting this out Bobby, it needed to be seen.

When you send out your vid for approval, you could put a little message in there that says something like: "if no feedback is received by xxx date, I will assume that the video is acceptable unless expressly told otherwise and video will go live on/ about such a date..."
Would you recommend the DX9 Gwalt over this? I have it but think it's a bit over scaled for standard masterpiece and tank mode is a bit horrible. Learned about this one and started to think maybe I should have got it instead until you brought the negatives up which is good.
Hello Bobby, Man I had such high expectations for this figure, and it's a real disappointment that this figure failed on so many levels. I agree with you that lately KFC has had some great figures. I too, loved their Junkions and Transistor, and I'm so glad you gave us fans the "wassup" on this train-wreck! All I can say is "BRING ON FANSTOYS!" Let's hope third time is the charm!

Recently bought this and yes posing is hard but.... Standing it up there's an extra little H shaped piece that flips out on bottom of foot that helps a lot better standing

Luckily mine doesn't have any of the issues yours did. Only thing mine had was a loose tank tread (small one at front of tank) which I fixed with nail polish. Other than that my figure is solid. Yes he's a little hard to get into some dynamic poses but a little patience helps. And he is back heavy. Other than that I like him. Would recommend to friends.

Angry Skullface is angry. That was quite the rant, though. I was thinking of getting this figure as I recently sold the DX9 Blitzwing, but after this review I think I'll hold off.
I think I was the guy who said "it takes a while to figure out how to stand it" I was so frustrated and never felt confident to stand it and walk away, I felt like if the wind blew or the table was bumped even ever so slightly it would fall still... also you mistransformed the back (basically forgot a step) both on the test shot and the "final" basically the back pack neigh pieces on each side slide inward and believe it or not it helps with the equilibrium slightly..... with that said my ultimate thoughts are identical to yours, lol I sold mine after 24 hours.
Preach Bobby preach, if you have to take 40 minutes to point out all the faults then do it, I would rather a long detailed vid than a quick "its good buy it now" vid. good work as always.
Ditka definitely has a better tank mode than Gewalt, but Gewalt has a better jet mode. Gewalt is it’s own design, while Ditka tries to be a MP scale of the G1 toy. Honestly it’s a shame that there aren’t more third part MP Blitwing figures, much like how Astrotrain was before Thomas.
Ive had videos just disappear on me too. or even get fully corrupted while transferring. sucks hard. never had the issues with no longer having the thing i was reviewing. but losing the in the moment things that happen with a first review sucks. been there on a couple videos back in february and reshoots were needed that were neither fun or as good as the first run through.
Yes sir I do. Having your comp die in the middle of exporting is no fun either. "Oh did you want that file? Sorry, its broken now." Camera running out of space mid transforming something is also a fun headache. lol

I just messed with mine lastnight. And his knees ratchets are very weak. I had to angle the lower legs back a bit. Kind of like chicken legs😣. He does stand straight now, but his legs do look a little weird from the side. I will buy some new replacement knee ratchets from ATP designs. They are supposed to be out by the end of the weak. There is a also a quick video of the new ratchets on a loaner ditka. And the new knees have are way tighter than the stock knees.
Probably the worst figure they've released to-date... and probably one of the worst 3rd party masterpiece figures released in the last couple years. I'm so glad I made the decision to purchase DX-9's Gewalt instead.
Easily the best and most accurate Type 74 turret I've seen on a Blitzwing, but that's about all I can commend. Tank hull is extra chunky. Planform is totally wrong for a MiG-25 and robot mode I don't care so much about on a triple changer. I know it's hard to design a triple changer though. But it would be nice if one toy over the years got the jet mode AND the tank mode right. Gewalt has a near flawless jet mode but his tank mode looks like a Countach with a turret lol
Just got mine today. The pros of it outweigh the cons for me personally. But there are still a lot of cons that could've been easily fixed. Yes, the tail fins are way too loose. Yes, he is very backpack heavy and the knee joints aren't stiff enough to hold that weight. Actually, if the ankle joints were stiffer, it could stand upright if you brought the white thighs forward to be flush with the knees to move the center of gravity forward. 10:39 The hinge of the chest panel is showing a lot of wear from not being able to flip very far up. And so with such limited clearance, the head of the jet hitting the chest panel puts stress on the panel's hinge. 11:17 The panel that forms the tank hood/jet throat clicks in very tightly. One trick I found to popping it out is to push the purple semi circle with ridges at the front firmly but slowly along the channel slider. 12:10 Pushing down too much makes the cockpit open. 12:23 My nosecone keeps popping off too unless I apply pressure to keep it in place while swiveling it. 13:19 Yeah this thing is very ass heavy in jet mode. 14:36 I found it works best to have the double hinge flaps flush with the back while the front panels angle a little downwards and let the tension keep the circle tab connected. 16:17 Best way I found is to untab the backpack/treads from the legs, then swing the whole thing towards the chest.
I don't understand how such an issue (knees) get past production. Bummer I jumped on this early. Hopefully getting the knee fix does not require buying another figure.

I believe for Triple Changers there is the need to sacrifice at least one mode in this case it is the plane mode BUT I would like to see how the FansToys how it will fair with others but so far I feel like the DX9 one is the proper offer here. To bad because KFC have pretty good robot mode.
Aw geez, feels like neither Astrotrain or Blitzwing can get a break with a decent figure, meanwhile their lesser know brother Octane has his UniqueToys offering which was pretty damn great looking, leaves me wondering if they should try for the big two already.
My friend just lend it too me and i have it in-front of me write now and the trick for it too stand is inside the feet it has a metal piece that levers out and amazing enough this ditka can stand now, great piece only 100$ has diecast and a great resemblance of the character and very large transformer, i recommend it!!
Mine finally came in and honestly my biggest gripe is his paint job It doesn't have that glossy mp look and when I pose him with my other mp figures he stands out like a sore thumb But his sculpt is so delicious I love how imposing he is in robot mode his feet do suck though Why didn't they just stick with the test shot?
Bobby Skullface L now that you mention it, the knees are weird as hell! It's sad because I bought this guy with the confidence of him being as good as KFC's blaster or their junkions. I'm not sure what went wrong I like him a lot but I don't love him. If the knee joints get revised (I think ATP Design already has a prototype ratchet), do you think the rest of the figure holds up? The alt modes look solid, it's just that the legs look like a floppy piece of shit.
As the cheap fecker I am, I bought Gewalt, it was faulty and missing a part, so I got it cheap as hell. I emailed DX9 and got a replacement part, so jobs a good un. However, I was always pining for the KFC one, the initial prototype shots made it looks superb....this is a floppy mess. Tank awesome, jet, cockpit way too small, robot, dem knees.....thanks for the review as always. I did hear, I think it was gci toys, the guys that did te upgrade kit for Starsaber, was doing an upgrade for Ditka too. Should not be needed, but it may help!
There was still some life in that horse, don't stop swingin! Lol thank you for letting this mess have it, I kept seeing these issues in other reviews but the reviewer wouldn't comment on it, you can hear the frustration in their voice as they keep saying 'this is a great figure from KFC' Common man, even Keith isn't buying that crap! I think this is classic what happens when you rush to market. Look at how long the Junkions were in development for, this guy had very little time between test shot and release, those consequences show. They know though they have a finite amount of time before FT starts showing pictures of theirs and people hold out for it. But this is a quicker way to lose cash, after the Junkions I was ready to sell Gewalt and wait for this guy. A good toy leaves that nice taste in your mouth and you want more, same goes for the bad taste from a bad toy.
Lucas Bockelman no sir. That is incorrect. The feet work perfectly fine both with the heel spur in or out. The feet supper the weight perfectly. It's the knees that are the issue. The knee ratchets are what fail under the weight of the figure.
I liked dx9 gewalt I thought it was good tank mode a little ehh but considering all it has to do ain't bad the modes are pretty good don't know if it's toon accurate but I like it
I will check them out, I really need that piece. I only do Star Wars HT and that is like a grail. Otherwise I just stick to Diecast Robots and Transformers. After watching this video I will not stray from FT, MT or Takara. Only FT mistakes I know of is Lupus and Scoria.

seems to be hit or miss. but kfc is aware of the knee issue and is issuing replacements i hear

Easily the best and most accurate Type 74 turret I've seen on a Blitzwing, but that's about all I can commend. Tank hull is extra chunky. Planform is totally wrong for a MiG-25 and robot mode I don't care so much about on a triple changer. I know it's hard to design a triple changer though. But it would be nice if one toy over the years got the jet mode AND the tank mode right. Gewalt has a near flawless jet mode but his tank mode looks like a Countach with a turret lol

Just got mine today. The pros of it outweigh the cons for me personally. But there are still a lot of cons that could've been easily fixed. Yes, the tail fins are way too loose. Yes, he is very backpack heavy and the knee joints aren't stiff enough to hold that weight. Actually, if the ankle joints were stiffer, it could stand upright if you brought the white thighs forward to be flush with the knees to move the center of gravity forward.
10:39 The hinge of the chest panel is showing a lot of wear from not being able to flip very far up. And so with such limited clearance, the head of the jet hitting the chest panel puts stress on the panel's hinge.
11:17 The panel that forms the tank hood/jet throat clicks in very tightly. One trick I found to popping it out is to push the purple semi circle with ridges at the front firmly but slowly along the channel slider.
12:10 Pushing down too much makes the cockpit open.
12:23 My nosecone keeps popping off too unless I apply pressure to keep it in place while swiveling it.
13:19 Yeah this thing is very ass heavy in jet mode.
14:36 I found it works best to have the double hinge flaps flush with the back while the front panels angle a little downwards and let the tension keep the circle tab connected.
16:17 Best way I found is to untab the backpack/treads from the legs, then swing the whole thing towards the chest.

I don't understand how such an issue (knees) get past production. Bummer I jumped on this early. Hopefully getting the knee fix does not require buying another figure.
Dino de Leon in all fairness KFC is really good about replacement parts so I'm sure he'll take care of folks that bought the first run

I believe for Triple Changers there is the need to sacrifice at least one mode in this case it is the plane mode BUT I would like to see how the FansToys how it will fair with others but so far I feel like the DX9 one is the proper offer here. To bad because KFC have pretty good robot mode.

My friend just lend it too me and i have it in-front of me write now and the trick for it too stand is inside the feet it has a metal piece that levers out and amazing enough this ditka can stand now, great piece only 100$ has diecast and a great resemblance of the character and very large transformer, i recommend it!!
Mine finally came in and honestly my biggest gripe is his paint job
It doesn't have that glossy mp look and when I pose him with my other mp figures he stands out like a sore thumb
But his sculpt is so delicious I love how imposing he is in robot mode his feet do suck though

If the knee joints get revised (I think ATP Design already has a prototype ratchet), do you think the rest of the figure holds up? The alt modes look solid, it's just that the legs look like a floppy piece of shit.

As the cheap fecker I am, I bought Gewalt, it was faulty and missing a part, so I got it cheap as hell. I emailed DX9 and got a replacement part, so jobs a good un. However, I was always pining for the KFC one, the initial prototype shots made it looks superb....this is a floppy mess. Tank awesome, jet, cockpit way too small, robot, dem knees.....thanks for the review as always. I did hear, I think it was gci toys, the guys that did te upgrade kit for Starsaber, was doing an upgrade for Ditka too. Should not be needed, but it may help!

Lol thank you for letting this mess have it, I kept seeing these issues in other reviews but the reviewer wouldn't comment on it, you can hear the frustration in their voice as they keep saying 'this is a great figure from KFC' Common man, even Keith isn't buying that crap! I think this is classic what happens when you rush to market. Look at how long the Junkions were in development for, this guy had very little time between test shot and release, those consequences show. They know though they have a finite amount of time before FT starts showing pictures of theirs and people hold out for it. But this is a quicker way to lose cash, after the Junkions I was ready to sell Gewalt and wait for this guy. A good toy leaves that nice taste in your mouth and you want more, same goes for the bad taste from a bad toy.

Lucas Bockelman no sir. That is incorrect. The feet work perfectly fine both with the heel spur in or out. The feet supper the weight perfectly. It's the knees that are the issue. The knee ratchets are what fail under the weight of the figure.
Guys, this thing is totally character accurate - Mike ditka has terrible knees and in fact can barely walk or stand

I liked dx9 gewalt I thought it was good tank mode a little ehh but considering all it has to do ain't bad the modes are pretty good don't know if it's toon accurate but I like it

I will check them out, I really need that piece. I only do Star Wars HT and that is like a grail. Otherwise I just stick to Diecast Robots and Transformers. After watching this video I will not stray from FT, MT or Takara. Only FT mistakes I know of is Lupus and Scoria.
