    It's funny - in my experience a lot of people misremember Blackout's EMP attack as coming from the movies, probably from a mix of the shockwave attack he uses during the base invasion and how fitting it is for his name.

    • @ChrisMcFeely
      @ChrisMcFeely  3 года назад +298

      Yeah, I went to a couple of different sources to look into that one! Blackout does scramble - not shut down completely, just jam - radar and comms in the film, but it's *before* he unleashes his shockwaves. It's a silent effect in the finished film, but according to the movie's script, it was to be accompanied by an electronic "shriek" that would also cause the spotlights on the helipad to explode as it reached its crescendo in time with his transformation; the movie's novelisation also describes other systems being scrambled. The shockwaves themselvs are called "thunderclap concussions" or "pulse blasts" in the script. He fires them from an wrist-mounted weapon on-screen, but interestingly, in the *comic* adaptation, he DOES create them by stomping his feet! A result, I think, of the artist (or writer, or both) misinterpreting the brief, vague, shot of the first shockwave attack that was in the movie trailer, which the comic reproduces in a single panel.

    Blackout and Barricade are both alike, they started out as micromaster toys before having the names reused in the Unicron Trilogy but it was their movie counterparts that ended up becoming the definitive versions of the characters: blackout being a brute who turned into a helicopter while Barricade was a scout/ bad cop who turned into a police car. One thing both Blackout and Barricade have in common in the movies is that they're both loyal to Megatron. I'm beginning on depicting these two as a dynamic duo similar to Knock Out and Breakdown from transformers prime and Blitzwing and Lugnut from Transformers Animated, Barricade being the brains of the duo and Blackout being the muscle.

      That Barricade design was based off fan art, and stuck it to an already existing but very similar design.
      For blackout there really isn't many existing designs that fit it. While at first glance he seems the average Helicoptor, the EMP generator and shoulder mounted weapons, and arm mounted saw blade, and massive bulk have done their part in making him unique. As thats why IDW kept most of these features for their blackout. The G1 design should follow suit, making sure the keep these traits. But for the head I honestly think it should resemble the Decepticon symbol li8ke it did in the movie, which also ties back to how that design used to be Soundwave who's hewad was the base of the Decepticon logo in G1.

Instead of an MH-53 Pave Low, it was a CH-53E Super Stallion. Essentially a bigger, bulkier version of the Pave Low.
