The late, great Tommy Cooper came into the world on 19 March 1921. Just like that! All rights to this video belong to Thames Television. All rights belong to Thames Television
fact..no matter how much you watch him tommy cooper is(like don rickles)one comedian you will never ever get tired/fed up with watching ever either through instant laughs or gags that get funnier with every passing second truelly blessed to have so much recorded footage of him because it is something that will never die.......a national treasure....priceless
He really was a one off, so funny. I used to go to Blackpool with my parents every year and they used to take me to some shows. I don't know how old I was this particular year but I guess maybe 9 or so. Anyway we went to see Tommy, he was in a show on the pier, he was probably top of the bill. He only walked on stage and my Mother burst out laughing at him, we were not too far from the stage and he gave us a look. I don't remember anything else from the show but I never forgot that. It would be easy these days to say his stuff is old hat. But Tommy carried it off so well and he was such a big imposing man made even more so by wearing that fez. Very graceful with his movements I always thought for a big man too. RIP Tommy you were a star.
I just have to see his face, I'm hooked. One of the best comedians that was on stage at that time. He was a natural , loved his sketches. Many thanks for this compilation. 👍👍👍👍👍
Poor old Tommy died on stage performing ... collapsed mid joke .... a truly exceptional entertainer entering heaven with a smile ... delightful being !!!!
The thing is as a magician he could make all his tricks work. But there was no humour there. It was actually harder to make them not work then fir him to make them work. Just because they had to not work right in the right way.
Thank you for putting these wonderful vids on here mate. The funnyest man who's ever lived. When you can stand there and just look at the camera and the audience are in tears of laughter, you have got it! Tommy Cooper, the man with the fezz, who could literally just walk on stage, not open his mouth and people laugh. Never ever ,will there be anouther Tommy Cooper and that's a fact. RIP and your comedic genius will live forever.
A brilliant comedian who just wore himself out. He was going to have a break for a while and take a holiday with his wife shortly. He played one show too many. R.I.P. Tommy, you were the Best.
Mr. Cooper did have very serious health problems for years, and they got worse and worse... He could hardly walk for some time, was in great pain, but he continued... that was Mr. Cooper's life and death! He was the greatest "commedians" ever, much more than a magician, much more than a clown. He was Tommy Cooper, the one and only. He made me laugh, he made me smile... and after watching one of his tricks, listening to one of his stories... I felt better. He made my soul smile... that is how I see it.
Being on stage is like being on drugs - its how many performers escape the pain they suffer in real life. But by doing so they do make our own pain less and our souls smile by doing so too
I’m 15 years of age and I actually did find him funny it’s not very often I watch comedians I only found him a few days ago because of some video about him so I searched him up to find the video of him dyin and I felt unsettled and quite upset how did no one notices??! I only just found out abt him and I love him already gone too soon
I so love Tommy Cooper performances. If anyone tries to emulate him well done to them and if they reach younger audiences and they find the humour funny and uplifting for a few moments in their life then i am happy for us all
Doctors should prescribe Tommy Cooper. He's the perfect medicine after a hard, depressing day at work. Most comedians today have funny material, but they want to be cool . Tommy had funny material but, more importantly, he himself was funny. Genius.
+jeanperiquito He tapped into the simple and obvious, which is what most people are not aware of,only the subconcious mind, and Tommy new that................All the same,he was just a funny man,i still crease up!
He was also well respected and fondly adored by fellow magician's within The Magic Circle. His act and showmanship was very unique at the time and in my opinion still is to this day!
Tommy had a great personality, his lines and gags are hilarious , saw him live at a theatre in torquay when I was small . After the show my dad asked him for autograph he offered him a pen and tommy joking said oh I thought you were gonna shoot me lol
After a royal variety performance, Cooper was lined up to see the Queen and when he was introduced he asked, 'Excuse me Ma'am, but do you like football'. The entourage of bigwigs froze. 'Not, really, no,' replied HM. 'Can I have your tickets for the cup final then?'
I haven't seen that Thames TV intro in over 4 decades. Saw it a million times when I was a kid in England. Tommy Cooper was huge. Everyone knew who he was. Morecambe & Wise too. Benny Hill was on another level though.
I share the same birthday with him, he would have been 100 this year, 1984 was a good year for comedy, I mean a month after Tommy past away eric Morecombe died sad indeed
The best comic ever!, in a class of his own. I freind of mine saw him liverpool a long time ago. He came onto the stage said and done nothing apart from stand in the middlle of the stage and everyone just started laughing! Brillaint!
"I don't care if he comes in, it makes no difference to me!" I love his smile on the third clip though, with the camel hair, you can see he really enjoyed making people laugh (unlike comedians of today who just do it for the fame and money) he will be forever missed.
@@peterkawe6451 genius doesn’t just mean intelligent. Here’s a small sample of a definition of genius. ‘the most common trait that actually defines a genius may be the extraordinary ability to apply creativity and imaginative thinking to almost any situation.’
A genuinely funny dude. I like how he kinda poked fun (albeit warm-heartedly) at the art of magic, where he would take the usual trick or joke and turn it around and make it his own, as if he was in on the joke way before the audience was. One of the true-blue greats.
Dude? Kinda poked fun? Are you for real? Or just too young to know? Tommy was not only a member of the Magic Circle, he was a Member of the Secret Seven!
I think I'm too young to know. I first saw a few clips of Cooper in the Sex Pistols documentary "The Filth and the Fury," but I didn't know his name. Later on I found a video talking about deaths on live TV and he was on it and (now that I had a name to go with the face) I looked up a huge amount of videos where he was performing and I thought he was hysterical. I don't know what the Secret Seven is or the Magic Circle, I just thought he was really funny. I apologize for any misgivings you or I may have had.
So Tommy Cooper actually said 'just like that". In this sketch. My favourite is his stratav + Rembrant gig. You have to understand this is pre -alternative humour. He is loved a a brilliant act I miss him. Sorely missed. he was the building stone of modern humour..
Unfortunately modern comedy built the wrong way, and is not funny, just swearing and sex. Back in the day you had Tommy Cooper and Ronny Barker, the two funniest comedians ever, and I'm sorry Tommy, but Ronny, by the fact that he did so many characters, was the funniest.
A story goes that there was a cantankerous venue manager where he played for a week. On the last night, in the custom of tipping the venue staff, he stuffed a wad into the guys jacket top pocket and sais "here mate, have a drink on me". The guy checked his pocket later and found a tea bag!
2:10 Actually had that happen in a powerboat, wheel came off in my hand with the harbour wall coming up fast. Clean underwear was needed that afternoon.
The perfect clown - he only had to walk on stage and people would laugh. He mastered the art of telling the simplest jokes accompanied by his facial expressions and bodily antics that very few other comics have mastered. We should all enlighten the soul now and again and indulge in a dose of his pure buffoon tomfoolery. Indeed a true genius of comedy.
i don't know, but to me, he's not too funny, but i love this guy very much, he's so pure, he doesn't make me laugh so hard, but he makes me smile. love him.
i went into a chinese restaurant and had a meal. i asked the waiter if there were any chinese jews, like the jews in USA, russia and elsewhere. he went out to find out. he came back and said sorry, sir, no chinese juice, just apple juice, orange juice and freshly squeezed pear juice!
Hes not a genius in any way , he is just the definition of funny, he was just born funny and didnt have to do anything ,people just laugh at him and love him
Thank you Nic Nolan for giving us this classic collection of the greatest comedian ever. Brilliant stuff.

All he had to do was say "Here's a quick joke" and he could have people in stitches. Funniest comedian I've ever seen, by miles.
I'm glad I'm in the show, i couldn't afford it in the audience.
Anytime I'm feeling down, I come back to watch Tommy Cooper. He was the funniest comedian I've ever seen, just like that!
As someone who is battling depression and anxiety, I can say Tommy Cooper is one of my best medications.
One of the funniest men who’s ever lived.
I second that, and he didn't need to swear or be rude.
Robbie the Robot that’s natural I’m 15 and swear all the time

I often watch Tommy Cooper videos, and I still laugh after all these years. He definitely had a gift.
Whenever I'm having a bad day, I watch this and it completely changes how I feel.
He used to walk on stage and everyone started laughing before he even said anything. That is what you call genius comedy.
The audience must have been on laughing gas before Cooper came on stage.
