Wasn't he just at the battle of rook's rest? I think he besieged like one or two strongholds before that but as far as I can tell that was it. For obvious reasons though he couldn't fight in any more battles after being burnt and his body being mostly broken in the fight with Rhaenys. As for Rhaenyra, well she sat out the war mostly because at the start of it she had just come out of losing a child and going into labor so she had to rest. Her dragon Syrax was also older and more lazy and not really effective in combat. She also initially wanted to shy away from using any dragons against Aegon's dragons because they knew the actual danger as opposed to just flying and burning armies as Aegon and his sister wives did unopposed. But I agree I wouldn't say she is the better soldier. Maybe more of an experienced dragon rider but not really a soldier.
@@spearshake4771 He also fought on Dragonstone. Sunfyre flew over to Dragonstone and killed Grey Ghost. Then Aegon and Sunfyre reunited and fought Baela and Moondancer. He was still able to win despite his injuries but Sunfyre died a few months later from the injuries from all 3 battles. And Rhaenyra at the start had an excuse since she went into labor but even later in the war she never went out into battle once and sent others that went and died for her. Aegon isn't a good person but he's definitely more of a soldier than Rhaenyra. One of his few redeeming qualities was that he wasn't scared to fight himself.
@@aileenpi73 I think Rhaenyra was the rightful queen, I'm just saying it's wrong to say she's more of a soldier than Aegon based on their actions throughout the war.
@@honeybadger1810 I think the biggest mistake of the show was not giving enough screentime to the bonds between the dragons and their riders. Aegon II was a deranged maniac with no regard for anyone, but he absolutely loved his dragon Sunfyre. He's said to be one of the best riders in his entire dynasty, and his bond with Sunfyre was mutual, the dragon fought and suffered through countless battles just to stay with Aegon. When Sunfyre finally died, Aegon died mentally too..
I think I'll cry wirh each dragon that dies and I don't care what side or rider they belong to. The dragons are in a way an extension of their rider so their behaviour is a product of their rider. Otherwise I think each dragon would be a pure creature. Once again people get a hold of something special and ruin it.
I didn’t read the books and I don’t support monarchies, but to me Rhaenyra is the rightful heir. She is the eldest child, she was named heir by the King before any of the brothers were born, and the realm pledged their allegiance to her. Going against that is usurping the throne. It’s disappointing that contemporary watchers of the show, look at the situation so far and want to support the side of the usurpers. Maybe later one Rhaenyra proves to be a bad person but has of now no reason for her not to be respected as the heir, only misogyny.
They have already revealed to us, on what Sunfyre looks like. He reminds me of a pray mantis. I personally think that the fan art of Sunfyre is more cooler than the one in the show. I could say the same thing for caraxes. Anytime he flies, he reminds me of a handkerchief flying in the sky.
They take on the feelings and wants of their rider, when riderless they have more will to do as they like. They're not inherent wild beasts at all, not in a mental sense, they're more sentient and emotional than humans, you even see their psychic empathy between certain dragonriders and their dragons. Humans who are waging war and shit are the one's weaponizing the dragons. Alot of the dragons didn't even want to fight or kill who they had to, but they did for their rider. Rider loyalty and the psychic bond being so strong that it melts the needs and wants of the rider to the dragon is why they're 'wild beasts'. If you noticed, Vhagar was flying happily through the sky with Laena and Caraxes, even when Laena said Dracarys, Caraxes knew they homies so he just flew through it, Vhagar couldn't even bear to kill Laena when she begged. When an unexperienced, murderous (in the books he intends for Luke and Arrax to die and carves his eyes out after) rider takes a beast like Vhagar and channels all their visciousness and rage into a dragon it's not their fault. Dragons can refuse orders, but it's not like it's not heavily influenced. Dragons are binded to their riders so to refuse them is almost impossible in every sense. Some wild dragons are naturally viscious and other dragons are extremely tame, especially if they haven't been forced into war and killing. Like Syrax, is well-fed, looked after, flew only, not used for war until the Dance, and she's protective of Rhaenyra because they were born together, Syrax is a well-loved dragon by the common folk and called 'The Realms Delight' along with Rhae as a child. Aegon literally used Sunfyre, he abused Sunfyre's loyalty, waged war with him even after he was crippled, didn't care for him much and even then Sunfyre did not even want to kill Rhaenyra, but he had to for Aegon. Dragons loyalty to dragonriders is unquestionable. Tell me how a dragon (Sunfyre) would drive himself to crippled death for Aegon is wild beast energy. How is Syrax screaming in pain as Rhaenya's in a stillbirth labour wild. How is Caraxes being so connected to Daemon that he needn't utter a word, they just share the same mind, if Daemon is even the slightest bit angry or threatened, Caraxes will turn up by his side, wild? They are to be respected, Daemon is a good example of a respectful and loyal bond between Dragon and rider, they wanted the same things and he mastered Caraxes as Caraxes was loyal to him. They're protective, they love, they are less 'wild beasts' than humans and I really think that's an important point to remember.
A dragon choses its rider but once than bond is formed their intent becomes the dragons for example Dagon killed the iron throne cause he knew Dannys need to win it was the cause off her death he could see Jon wanted to die but destroyed the throne so noone could sit in his Mothers chair...Once they loose a rider some go wild some wait for someone who reminds them off their past rider, and choose them.
Long comment incoming : I don’t really care for the greens or the blacks. People are quick to side with the blacks, but that’s because the show is biased to them. People say Aegon is a weirdo, Otto is a prick, and Alicent a scheming snake, but they act like Daemon isn’t a wife killing psychopathic brat and Rhaenyra a spoiled insufferable bitch. If there’s anyone I feel bad for in this story, it’s the dragons. The dragons are solitary wild animals that desire to live in peace, and they are dragged into this war where they absolutely tear each other to pieces. Literally every named dragon that fights in the dance dies, either by a gruesome and painful death from another dragon, or in poor Sunfyres case, multiple battles against multiple dragons. Aegon II, while a typical GOT douche, is a somewhat tragic character neglected by his parents and forced to be king, and Sunfyre was his only real friend. They might be my favorite duo. A couple guys who absolutely refused to give up. Edit: *SPOILERS INCOMING* ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️ *REALLY* looking forward to seeing Sunfyre chomp Rhaenyra hehehehehe 😋
Aegon II's and Sunfyre's story is so sad. To be honest it's complete insanity to even risk and sacrifice a magnificent beast like Sunfyre for that bloody throne. I would fly with him far away to Essos and go into exile if need be and watch it grow into a golden Balerion.
@@pg1448 Man. Imagine how happy they coulda been. Sunfyre was already by far the most beautiful dragon in living memory, but he would have become the most majestic beast on the planet. Such a sad story.

' abit more than a 'weirdo', lets get it right. He's a sadistic rapist, child abuser and actively funded his own children's deaths and torture for his own entertainment honey. He also used Sunfyre to death and despite Sunfyre's loyalty wished for a better version of Sunfyre. How anyone can be 'rooting' for a sadistic violent rapist who is just as bad as Joffrey (worse actually)... just say you hate women, he rapes any woman he can sadistically, it's shorter than simping for a rapist and child torturer
Dragons wouldnt have an "Alpha" or even "Beta" roles. Dragons aren't pack animals. Clearly, dragons are solitary hunters when not in captivity and therefore wouldnt have pack structures. If anything, they would be extremely territorial to every other dragon when not in mating season.
@@Backwoods_Squatch I study wolf behaviour and what you say its not true. Wolfs have an Alpha male and alpha female, and only the Alpha are allowed to reproduce. That has been seen in infinite packs of wolfs and has been proven, not debunked wtf are you talking about.

It would have been nice to see how formidable Sunfyre could have been had he sat out at Rooks Rest. Sunfyre entering a battle, with the 2 largest dragons of their time, and being the first one to attack Meleys is a great indicator of how fierce and strong he was as he was less than half the size of Meleys. Having the strength to still recover, flee, kill other dragons with a mangled wing, never give time to actually recover is rather heart breaking. Sunfyre is a legend, but because they portray Amond 2, as a idiot in the show, I hope they give Sunfyre the story and respect he deserves
I think that's what would happen. Sunfyre had more experience in fighting than Syrax, but in fight between dragons anything could happen. Any way I love Syrax, she is beautiful. And her head looks like she's more intelligent than the others. Really hate seeing any of the dragons die. They are just magnificent creatures.
Sunfyre is something like dragon Drogon from Games Of Thorns but more powerful, and more intelligent golden Dragon, Rhaenyra & Aegon II really hate each other even tho both are Siblings.

The scene where they are cremating her mom and newborn brother is so emotional and you can tell that she was totally mentally actually there!! It's awesome, great imagination
Sunfyre was a much younger dragon than Vhagar and Meleys, of course he would've lost. He was still very strong for his age and didn't give up despite being badly hurt.
Arguably the only reason Vhagar came out alive against the red queen is thanks to Sunfyre, in the book the blacks talk about how Meleys could take Vhagar on in a 1v1 match and possibly defeat her, but because she was up against Sunfyre too it was too much. Whilst she was distracted nearly killing Sunfyre and Aegon, Vhagar tackled both of them from above and drove them all into the ground, where she was able to kill Meleys.
@@chaddurns3970 Not really, losing Rhaenys and Meleys would be a both a personal tragedy and a strategic blow for the blacks. I don’t see why they would make plans for which black dragons could take which green dragons unless they genuinely believed they could win. It’s in the black’s interest to try and defeat Vhagar, and the only dragon with a rider who could accomplish that is Meleys. I would argue it’s not in their interest to exaggerate what their dragons are capable of, creating mismatches which will end in defeat.

This title is nonsense and for everyone who thinks Sunfyre is the toughest dragon. As beautiful and powerful as he undoubtedly was, George R R Martin said in an interview (the creator of all the dragons) that Vhagar and Caraxes are the toughest. End of pointless debate. This video is nothing more than click bait.
It’s more about the sad and more interesting story of his life. For people who like the characters it’s more interesting because of how Sunfyre brought out Aegons good side.
It's silly to argue wich is the thoughest, when all three where battle hardened dragons. But Sunfyre was also the youngest, if he had been allowed to grow old, he could have outdone all of them
@@pg1448 The creator of every single dragon in the Westeros universe said that the 2 most powerful dragons were Vhagar and Caraxes. I’ve read all the books and love Sunfyre but he simply wasn’t on the same level as those 2. This comes from the author of the books and he gets to decide who is the strongest (Vhagar + Caraxes) who is the quickest (Meleys) who is the most aggressive (Caraxes) who is the most beautiful (Sunfyre) who is the smallest (Arrax) who is the biggest (Vhagar) their personalities and what colour they all are. People’s opinions are totally irrelevant. George R R Martin created this world so he gets to decide.
@@stueyguerreiro Sure, but you have to keep in mind you can't directly compare these dragons as they are all different ages and sizes. Sunfyre is about 20 years old, Caraxes and Meleys are both at least 70, Vaghar is probably 170 or older. So of course 20 year old Sunfyre is too young too compete with all these much larger adult dragons, that's like expecting a german sheperd puppy to win a fight against a fully matured pitbull. But I think Sunfyre was quite impressive for his age, he was fast growing and a fierce, strong, resilient fighter. Meleys and Caraxes are in their prime, battle experienced, incredible fast and aggressive, while Vaghar is the largest and strongest albeit already slow due to age. Imagine how powerful a 70 year old Sunfyre could have been, probably more than a match for Caraxes or Meleys, he was such a promising and vigorous dragon at 20, that had he lived long enough he might have grown into another Balerion.

Aegon never deserved Sunfyre. That dragon did everything for him, was crippled and having his wing torn, and still Aegon constantly wished for a ''Better Sunfyre'' as in a cooler, or bigger, stronger, better dragon than Sunfyre :( one of my hated Aegon thoughts, he never even respected his dragon and it's loyalty. Sunfyre didn't want to kill Rhaenyra even he did it for Aegon, infact Sunfyre was meant for Rhaenyra's lil brother who died.. that's the egg she took back from Daemon when he stole it.... he never respected tha dragon he just always wished for a fuckin Balerion/Vhagar, and used her for war with no sympathy to the cost of Sunfyre's bond and loyalties
That's a lot of nonsense and misinformation. Aegon loved Sunfyre and was clearly heartbroken at his death. He blazoned the golden dragon on all his banners. He never wanted a different dragon as long as Sunfyre was alive, even when he was already crippled and dying. He cried over his dragon's death, when he didn't even cry over the deaths of his children and wife. Him wanting another dragon after Sunfyre died just as great or even greater doesn't mean he wasn't proud of Sunfyre, on the contrary. He was still fighting a war and in desperate need for a new dragon. Sunfyre returned to Aegon when he needed him most and enabled him to take Dragonstone, kill Moondancer and ultimately kill Rhaenyra. Black fans are just salty over the fact that Aegon had one of the finest dragons and the strongest bond with him. Also how did the other riders deserve their dragons more or treat them any better in comparison? The Blacks in particular? Rhaenyra who abandoned her Syrax to be slaughtered by a bunch of peasants? Even her 11 year old son had more guts than her and tried to save his dragon. Daemon and Rhaenys who sacrificed their dragons in their first and only battles? Baela who used her baby dragon as a disposable killing device in a fight against a larger and stronger dragon? Compared to them Aegon respected and valued his dragon a lot more.

@@elainemarie8725 I mean personally I think if Aemond killing Luke is somehow justification for brutally killing Aegon's six year old boy in front of his mother and his siblings, tormenting his wife into insanity and threatening to rape his daughter then Aegon is a hundred times more justified in taking revenge by feeding Rhaenyra to his dragon. Yes he should not have made young Aegon watch but what Daemon did to his Aegon's children and family was infinitely worse and people find excuses for that, so I'm not going to blame Aegon for this either. At least Aegon never murdered little kids. They were fighting a war of life and death, Rhaenyra would 100% have done the same to him. She devolved into a paranoid tyrant at this point, she had executed hundreds of Aegon's men, his grandfather, his uncle, Helaena had perished in her care, the bounty she had set up for their capture led to Maelor being ripped apart and for all Aegon knew she ordered Blood and Cheese as well. So to say Aegon had a score to settle with her would be an understatement. But the reason I like Aegon in the book is because he proved his bravery, intelligence and strength during his tribulations. He fought and won 2 dragon battles, he often listened to the better judgement of his wife and council, him conquering Dragonstone and setting a trap for Rhaenyra was a master stroke, he was crippled and his bones shattered but he refused to take milk of the poppy to have a clear mind for his tasks. He was all in all the better leader and king in the book though I have my doubts wether this will be the case in the show. Kind of making it obvious that she was the rightful Queen and Aegon was the usurper.

Yeah it will be, but he’s a maniac. Sunfyre pretty much refused to die. He killed three dragons.
This dragon is a legend !
Sunfyre: Black is out, gold is in. Yes! Just like gold, I am indestructible.
The most beautiful yet the most violent.
In Game Of Thrones a lot of people died but the only deaths that upset me were those of the dragons even though they’re cgi
I think I'll cry wirh each dragon that dies and I don't care what side or rider they belong to. The dragons are in a way an extension of their rider so their behaviour is a product of their rider. Otherwise I think each dragon would be a pure creature. Once again people get a hold of something special and ruin it.
Couldn't agree with you more
I agree also
Indeed! People have a tendency towards that.
That's natural - I hate it when horses or dogs die in war films as well.
When viserion and rhaegal were killed in GOT I cried like a little girl. It was definitely painful, as this is going to be 😕
Yeah honestly seeing all these different dragons die is gonna be tough, but what those monsters do to the Dragon Pit dragons is beyond messed up.
I was thinking the same thing.

I can't wait to see sunfyre the goodest boi in the 7 kingdoms
People watching the TV series are really going hate this dragon for what it's going to do to Rhaenyra.
M with the greens, Gonna enjoy sunfyre feasting upon Rhaenyra
Nah y'all can enjoy all that but still not a happy ending for Aegon ² as well
I didn’t read the books and I don’t support monarchies, but to me Rhaenyra is the rightful heir.
And to grey ghost, and to meleys and to moondancer
We all know the greens lose as this is why the house of dragon banner is black and red instead of green and yellow in game of thrones
Dragons are pure of heart…really? Seem like wild beasts to me.
I guess that is the point. When it comes to war and self interest, they are pure neutral
I am looking forward to seeing the final battle with Sunfyre
I'm dying to see how he'll look. Love what they did with Caraxys.
What in the show watcher theory is this
Dany is alive and well
Long comment incoming :
I don’t really care for the greens or the blacks.

@@jamesrobson4894 Would it not be in the blacks interest to talk up Meleys over Vhagar given that Vhagar's rider was a green?
@@chaddurns3970 Not really, losing Rhaenys and Meleys would be a both a personal tragedy and a strategic blow for the blacks. I don’t see why they would make plans for which black dragons could take which green dragons unless they genuinely believed they could win. It’s in the black’s interest to try and defeat Vhagar, and the only dragon with a rider who could accomplish that is Meleys.

Compared to them Aegon respected and valued his dragon a lot more.
in 1v1 Meleys will eat sunfyre but ofc it was 2v1 😮💨
Idk why people like aegon. Say what you will about Rhaenyra but she wasn’t a rapists or a drunk who enjoyed watching their own kid fight in the child fighting pits… Team black all the way for me.🖤🖤🖤
Because Aegon wasn't like this in the book and he was actually pretty badass unlike Rhaenyra
@@pg1448 He fed his sister to a dragon in front of her kid. Rhae wasn’t perfect in fire and blood especially when you think of blood and cheese situation but Daemon would of never set that up had luke not been killed by Aemond. That’s just my opinion. Personally I think princess Rhaenys should of been queen. Either way the succession crisis was bound to happen at some point. In the end it’s the Targaryen dynasty was never the same again. Battle of Rooks rest and gullet I’m looking forward to.
One thing I agree with is that Rhaenys being queen would have avoided this whole tragedy. I also look forward to rook's rest and to see our golden boi Sunfyre.
@@pg1448 tbf the book isn't an accurate retelling, but rather written from the point of view of a maester, writing down embellish facts, and George rr Martin said he's an unreliable narroator. So the maestros would embellish facts and not disclose others in retellings after the fact. As such, he said the show is perfect so. 🤷
@@thomasrowsell116 grrm also said the show is its own story and the book is a different story plus they were not sure how well the hotd would be recieved so they eliminated and changed a lot of stuff for example alicent is 10 years older than rhaenyra the book could be unreliable and biased but I don't think they will get the age of rhaenyra or alicent wrong given its 179 years ago plus that meleys scene so pathetic 😂the dragon pits are designed to hold dragons it has been home to house Targaryen dragons for centuries and never has anyone heard of a dragon breaking through layers of stone wall without a scratch to itself or its rider.in the book sunfyre and dramfyre circled the skies above kingslanding three times with their king and queen after their coronation another fact that cannot be disputed because of how many witnesses there must be during a coronation so yeah the show is its own story
Aegon II will be ignorant and power
hungry with greed, and a schemer
snake cunning who manipulate and
to trained his beautiful golden dragon to kill
burn His own Sister Rhaenyra who stole
the thorne from Rhaenyra under her nose, with his Mother Alicent help,
another power hunger greed, just like
Her Father Hightower who Aegon 2nd
will be learning most his wicked or evil traits character from his Grandfather Hightower,
and his Mom Queen Alicent High-Tower/
Targaryen.
First of all rhaenyra is nothing but name, and second more than hightower daemon and velaryons are more power hungry and greedy. And also daemon and rhaenyra are so loose canon that they cannot even control the city after taking kings landing, people dispised them so much so that they had fled kings landing lol
Aegon hated otto lol he replace him with criston cole and rhae is a insecure quenn that will get abandon by everyone even daemon
