Playing in the MLS is a terrible decision for this kid. The level of play is not anywhere close to the top leagues in Europe. Pulisic going to Germany as a teenager was arguably the biggest factor in his success.

The Union has one of the best youth development in the MLS. They've been consistently one of the top 5 teams in the last 5 years despite losing their stars to Europe and bigger clubs every couple of seasons.
Soccer and baseball are the worst sports for youth development. Both sports spend years sending players to lower level competition. Only for them to never make it as a pro any way. I couldn't imagine being loaned out for years just to find out I'm never playing for the team any way.

When I was 13 I remember Juan Agudelo the hottest property coming from NY Red Bull academy. He scored against South Africa at 17 in 2010 and then Argentina at 18 in 2011 and was dubbed the next big star from America. In 2024, the man can't even cut in in MLS. His playing in USL Pro league now, which is the second division in America. Cavin should be developing in a top academy now and compete with the best upcoming talent not stay in MLS until his 18.

Freddy had much better skills, went to Europe where he played huge 6'2" defenders who shoved him off the ball like he was a kindergartner. Cavan is 5'7" not very tall. Some people don’t realize how good our mls academies are, they may not have the competitiveness or status of the European ones but each year you see mls academies like Philadelphia Union beat top teams like Real Madrid academy
