    Our Rating System:
    We are both firm believers that it is unjust to review and rate an album after only hearing it one time therefore our method for reviews is much different than everyone else on RUclips.
    First off, not only do you get two individual opinions for each and every album but we actually take the time to listen to each album many times over the course of a week in order to gather elaborate opinions on it. We typically post our First Impressions of the album after listening to it for the very first time and then a week later we post our final review with a score.
    Our scoring method is unique to this channel as well. We each rate the album out of 10 but anything above a 7/10 simply just gets our Toe Tag. In order for an album to make it onto the list above it must receive Two Toe Tags. It if only gets one or none then it does not make our coveted list.
    Any album that receives Two Toe Tags is considered a top quality album of elite status and highly recommended by both of us. We hope to add an array of metal genres and sub-genres to our list so be sure to Subscribe and turn on Notifications so you will always be in the loop with all the awesome metal we review!
    NOTICE: This is not a news/info channel. We are not a RUclips version of Wikipedia for the bands that we discuss. I really like this song.
    It's more of a power and symphonic influence, but I like the direction they took with this song.
    I hope the rest of the album sounds like this.

    I actually loved it. I was more excited that they finally put something out after 7 or so years that I didn't mind it not being as thunderous as it should be. I'm pretty excited for the new album also and the track listening looks like it will be really good

    It is all subjective: Some will want the old DB....and some will like the this new DB. We have to let the band experiment as artists and musicians. I like them all the old and the last few they have released. Best way to make a true metal judgment is to wait and listen to the this new release in its entirety....not once, but maybe give it a few spins. Each DB release is clearly different from other releases in some way or other, and some are better than others...but bottom line is: Listen to what you like and stick to it. If the new is not what you want, then don't listen to it.

    I have similar. I do not hate this song, but I miss something. There is definitely a lot of symphonic parties. But as you said, it's a single for now. Cheers from Poland.

    3:32 - 4:15 kicks ass. The rest of the song is growing on me the more I listen... but I do miss the brutality of the Puritanical years

    Well to be honest they changed their style but still it's better to change the style instead of doing the same thing for 50 years.. In that particular case I would say that it fit perectly! The refrain is catches me perfectly and the song itself has a lot of variation. Of course they dont sound as dark as before but I like this new symphonic stuff (they are still recognizable as Dimmu Borgir)... So I love it :D

      For them as artists of course, do your thing, even if that means stripping down the extreme metal for pop metal. An artist needs to do what they feel is right. For me personally - eh quite the disappointment. So while I agree, it's still a bit of a bummer. Maybe the rest of the album will be quite different, which could definitely be the case.

      Think everyone forgets this is the single track. The track that is supposed to get the big masses to purchase the record or look it up on Spotify. Single tracks are often the mellower more pop track of an album. Don't think the entire album will be like this. I wouldn't mind if it was though, I love this as much as I love For all Tid or any of their old records.

      If you are a black metal band, you make black metal, you do not go to something more commercial, you do not have to change, you have to be FAITHFUL to what you are and NOT change.
      The changes will ALWAYS be bad.

      @@IIIITemplarioIIII I always wonder who is making those "rules". Sorry, but satanism is about NOT following any rules blindly - because that is what christians do. ;).Satanism is about the freedom to do what you want. And it seems Dimmu are doing exactely that.

    I kinda like the sound of it. It's not a happy "pop" song, but it's more victorious. And it sounds pretty great.
    This is just the single, the rest of the album might be different... but I'm kinda hoping it has the same feel to it to be honest
    Of course it could be harder, it could be more thunderous, it could be more raw... But then they are just reusing what they have done before.
    They are evolving and trying new things. And in my opinion, this is a good thing and it's exciting.
    All in all, the album has been pre-ordered and I'm surely going to buy a ticket for their tour

    Dimmu has moved further and further from classic black metal, and that's okay. I really liked the song, especially the guitars. It's different, and that's good. All the old Dimmu songs will still be there, and the new and more different stuff comes, and it's fresh.

    I liked the song, I have had it since January. I saw it on Itunes for like a day, so I got it and I've been listening to it ever since. First listen I really enjoyed it. Then each listen after that I discovered more and more to this song. My first Dimmu Album was Abrahadabra but I also own all their discography, including For All Tid & StormBlast (both original and 2005) and they're all very unique in sound and personality. So I'd say that Eonian will have a unique sound to it. I can't hate this song. I really, honestly enjoyed it.
    Great review though It was really honest and I've subscribed to your channel :)

    I actually really love this song. It’s a catchy tune and the more you listen, the more it grows on you. You can’t always have the pounding sound throughout, otherwise it all starts sounding the same and monotonous, Even Shagrath said that they want to constantly evolve, and not stay the same. Each album is very different.

    The same thing happened with Cradle of Filth in the 2006 - 2011. A more melodic or comercial sound, not bad but different. If you listen to it several times you grab the taste for the same commercial format that brings. Anyway we have to wait to see more songs from the album to give a final opinion

      I didn't think I liked it at first, but like Abrahadabra, the more I listen, the more I can find things I like... And keep in mind, I've been listening since the original raw Stormblast. The clean vocals without Vortex always throw me off though

    • @jojogunzsabazios6938
      @jojogunzsabazios6938 6 лет назад

      Very true. I find that they usually put in 2 or 3 great songs for the harder fan base, and some Like this one for the more mainstream fan base. Kind of giving a little bit for everyone type of vibe. Which is fine by me. I just wish they would throw down some songs like kings of the carnival creation or at least In sorte diabolis. It's been laking that raw strength as of Abrahadabra.

    • @robowarriorx
      @robowarriorx 6 лет назад

      I kind of went on a rant about this, but honestly I feel that losing Vortex and Mustis goes a long way into the change in the sound. The orchestrations were far more ethereal, and there is just something about the choir singers in the background I can't get in to. The stars were just...right...for the Puritanical Misanthropic Euphoria album, and I don't think we're ever going to see anything like it again.. I get my fix from Borknagaar for now, honestly they remind me the most of older Dimmu..but still, if there's a track at least as heavy as The Forshadowing Furnace, The Ancestral Fever, or The Heretic Hammer, I'll be happy.

  • @andrewspence7231

  • @the_old_ghost7775
    @the_old_ghost7775 6 лет назад

    they definitely added a lot of layers to the song in different aspects i think they went back to a kind of In sorte diaboli album type of heavy chugging riffage with the guitars mixed with the symphonic chorus. i really enjoyed the guitar work thought it was very solid. maybe there will be more blast beat faster speed picking on the record.

    I love the video & the song. The chorus certainly blind sided me but when I got the melody down & started listening to the layers of the song it really stood out to me as one of the stronger parts. I have a feeling this track will be placed in the middle of a bunch of heavy pounding BM for sonic relief as the album progresses track to track.

  • @nemesis9410
    @nemesis9410 6 лет назад

    I don't understand why people are complaining about it... It sounds fire. It's catchy, ok, so what? Music evolves and Borgirs just evolve with it, y'all should just accept it finally.
    Cause most of people (that I saw responses of) are like "yeah, this sucks, it doesn't sound like good old Dimmu Borgir from 90's". Well.... of course it doesn't... Cause it's goddamn 2018. They would get tired as shit playing the same things for decades. And by that I mean getting tired creatively. To me this doesn't sound pop at all, it just got the elements that are driving modern music in general, things like repetition and catchiness (which is very subjective anyway).
    To all the "hardcore" fans: calm your fucking tits down and move on.

    My guess is they chose this song to expose first to attract a newer, younger fanbase as a reintroduction to the spotlight. I'm hoping the other songs on the album will be at least a little closer to the more recent Dimmu that we all know. I swear I remember seeing a short video Shagrath put out a few years ago of them working on the album in the studio, and the snippet that was exposed sounded very Dimmu-like.

    you hate it or you love it. it's different from their past songs but you need to give it a chance. If you say "its not what I expected" then you already start with a wrong mentality, you EXPECT something so if it's different from what you expect then you get disappointed. after listening to it for a few times I really start loving it.

    I think the album deserves a chance. I'm not a big Dimmu Borgir fan, so I'm not expecting a specific sound from them anyway, but I think this song was all right.

  • @jannevaatainen

    They have changed their style more or less on every album, so that can't be the problem to fans. The problem is elsewhere, so please don't blame fans who are disappointed.

    In my opinion it is one of the best tracks they have produced. I have always loved their symphonic style and that they are sticking to it. Dimmu Borgir doesn´t have to be full old school black metal. They are a lot more than that in a way.

    The single is good, back when abrahadabra was released, they were saying how they wanted to try new things with there music, can’t blame them, I own all there albums and they are all great, it’s just something new and something that’ll keep them going in music instead of doing the same thing forever

      Ronnie Patterson no it doesnt suck. I think most people would agree that the song itself is pretty good and enjoyable.. the issue is that thr band is straying further from their ideal style.

      You seem to forget why these cats roze 2 the top of the so called " black metal " heap in the first place , is they werent afraid to break the mold yrs ago . I remember when they first appeared yrs ago , other bands making fun of the keyboards & shit, & now they washing dishes while these mother fuckers co-headline festivals ! I await the release of thier new album , to break the stereotypes again !

    • @TwoToeTags

      Ronnie Patterson Breaking molds works when you want to get established.. but when you’re already established breaking molds is risky because it can alienate part of their fanbase. We’re hyped either way. \m/

    I agree, it has lightning but lacking thunder, but also I loved the song and I find it catchy as hell and the video is on a meat and potatoes level but very appealing to the eye. Still to this day Progenies is my favorite song, also really into the Dimmu Borgir track.

    I saw a video with a guy ranting and ranting about this song, while having old Dimmu stuff playing in the background. And all while ranting he got distracted by Vortex singing... THAT is what is missing. I know it's getting old now, but Dimmu totally lost their edge by kicking him.

  • @michaelthomas2978
    @michaelthomas2978 6 лет назад

    Dude I'm not trashing on this new album I'm agreeing with the guy on the left, it's just a single, and yes it'll be on the record, but there's 9 more songs that could completely blow IDS (Interdimensional Summit) out of the water. I've been a fan of Dimmu for years, and yes this is new, this also marks their 25th anniversary, and a 7 year slumber. I'm staying optimistic just because there's other songs, and after they release the album they will also release a deluxe edition like they always do. So there could be a lot more we don't know about. They could also pull some hard-ass shit and release another album right after that... who knows, this is a new era of Dimmu and I've got their back on this

    I thought the song was pretty solid follower to their previous album. Quite in line as far as the overall sound and song structure goes. Listened to this song quite a few times now and enjoy it more and more, and now I'm actually excited for the new album. Sure, it's not the "thunderous" Dimmu Borgir some might expect, but it's been a good decade and a half since Death Cult Armageddon was released. At least they're not making another In Sorte Diaboli.

    That's the thing is that wait time. Had they put this song out in 2013 or 14, it probably would have been expected and not so disliked. One thing that disappointed me is that Shagrath said that this new album would be primal and more heavier than Abracadabra and yet, this songs like part 2 of that album....

    I think that this song is pretty much middle of the road, not exactly good, but not exactly bad. As for my favorite songs from Dimmu, the og version of Alt lys er svunnet hen, Entrance, Chaos Without Prophecy and Arcane Lifeforce Mysteria. My favorite album is Spiritual Black Dimensions. I really like the over all speed and aggressiveness the band had.
