Unlike the opinion of some “MCU fans”, I actually enjoy watching The Marvels. It’s just ashamed of how says it’s bad movie without even watching the movie because it’s an under appreciated and underrated movie. When the first trailer came out, I was hyped. Not only that we were finally getting a sequel to Captain Marvel, but Ms.Marvel and Photon are going to team up with her. After watching the movie, it left a smile on my face. I enjoyed the interaction with The Marvels, how each Marvels are able to swap with each other, the fight scene are all fantastic (especially the first fight scene where you see each Marvels keep switching with each other), Captain Marvel being called the annihilator (which gives me god of destruction vibe from Dragon Ball Super), the planet that they go to just has that Disney feel where they always have to sing to communicate, the flerken babies eating people while making it both hilarious and like a horror film, Ms.Marvel being so excited to be working alongside Captain Marvel, the ending, the post credit scene, etc. The only thing is the villain: Dar Benn [who is played by Tom Hiddleston (Loki)’s wife], who is not that memorable, but she doesn’t ruined the movie.
Honestly she has the potential not just be a great actress but since she's such a fan of the comics and is currently writing the Ms Marvel X-Men comic run currently going on, I say she has the potential to be a writer or creative director for the future of the MCU since she loves the comics like many of us and wants Marvel to succeed
On one hand, I completely agree with you. For someone with such a positive light around her (pun not intended), it's too bad she didn't get to be a part of the MCU during its prime. But on the other hand, the fact that the MCU has fallen so drastically, it makes her stand out THAT much more as a character. Seemingly everyone loves her seeing her onscreen because of her personality and spirit. So it's sad to say, but the decline of the MCU has actually benefitted Iman.
She literally is Kamala Khan brought to life and she is so adorable and passionate comic fan that warms my heart. Eventhough I have seen Ms Marvel show, and not seen the recent The Marvels movie I had no doubt in my mind that Iman Vellani wasn't going to be the best part about this movie.
i haven't seen this film (i'll get it on blu-ray), but i like Ms Marvel the series and definitely Iman Vellini, so why does some people crap on her and her series?
I do hope for the best for Iman Vellani. She's a very talented actress and a genuine fangirl. I just wish she was looking up to a hero more worthy of her adoration.
@@trinaq Even if it's not as Kamala I do hope she gets more roles. If she was a fangirl for Marvel heroes that people actually liked I think people would like her even more.
Feel like her being a Marvel fangirl is why she's great as Kamala. Is she the best actress that auditioned for the role? Probably not. But compared to the other actresses that probably auditioned she most likely is a genuine fangirl of Marvel. Any other actress when asked about about how they feel playing Kamala they probably would've just went you know it's an interesting role and it's nice to act like a Marvel nerd while Iman is basically Kamala Khan in real life she's a huge nerd for Marvel ( the good kind of Nerd) and she sounds extremely pumped about playing Kamala.
Ms Marvel was easily the best Marvel of the movie Her upbeat personality, relatable reactions and selfless nature made her more interesting than the other two
Nah, the Roger Corman Fantastic Four is the best Marvel movie ever, or Cannon Pictures pitch for Spider-Man where he was a gigantic human spider monster fighter the evil Doctor Zork.
Kamala Kahn was the best character in the movie, as she was so upbeat compared to Carol Danvers or Monica Rambeau . Plus, I wish Kamala’s family played more of a role in saving the universe.
My wife and I went into The Marvels blind and really enjoyed it. But we hated Eternals enough to walk out of it. So we were surprised to see that reviews were saying that *this* was supposedly the "worst Marvel movie ever." It certainly wasn't perfect, but we had alot of fun with it. Ms Marvel was fun and the concept of them constantly changing places made for a fun story. Still don't fully understand the extreme hate but maybe I'm missing something.
It’s not hate, it’s apathy. This is the biggest bomb in history because nobody saw it, not even the demographics they were pandering to. I think people are just tired of Disney’s weak scripts and they’re tired of Marvel in general thanks to the idiotic decision of over-saturating superhero content with Disney+.
I only saw the movie bc of how much I loved Ms. Marvel and I was happy with what I got, especially everytime she was on screen. Iman Vellani is awesome and I hope she gets bigger from here.
What, you mean where she was the only one who acknowledged that Wanda repeatedly put her life on the line for Humanity and no one cared she killed Vision to try and save them and instead all they'd ever remember was what she did in Westview?
@@ShadowSonic2 Trying to justify that hurt people hurt people logic? If you go through traumatic experiences it’s suddenly ok for you to put other people through traumatic experiences?
@@SjonoIt's not okay to completely ignore all the good someone did in favor of one bad thing. She did sacrifice for those people, more than they did for anyone else
@@ShadowSonic2 Wanda’s trauma and grief is in no shape or form justification for what she did to the people of Westview and I’m a bit irked Doctor Strange just let her off the hook with that ludicrous line “you put things right in the end “ The innocent folk were literally begging to die because of the physical/mental pain and trauma Wanda was selfishly inflicting on them Yes , Wanda did a lot of good as an Avenger for all humanity but Monica’s words in the moment were incredibly insensitive and tone deaf considering she just witnessed firsthand how much innocents were suffering. Wanda sacrificed a lot losing Vision but her actions in Westview were selfish and she took the next step dabbling in the Darkhold : a book she knew damn well corrupts and manipulates.
I was also a huge fan of the Ms. Marvel series and was looking forward to seeing her on the silver screen. She was phenomenal in this movie and I agree with Doug that Rambeau was a fine character, but I thought Captain Marvel was way more enjoyable this time around than her last appearance (which isn't a high bar I know). This was such a fun movie to watch and even though it felt a bit short, I would watch it again just for Iman Vellani's performance. I know I'm in the minority but I really enjoyed this movie and was not expecting to like it that much.
I'm easily entertained, so I had a fun ride with The Marvels. I put it higher than Captain Marvel, but still somewhere in the middle of the MCU pack overall.
The performance of this movie shows clearly that the first captain marvel movie got a MASSIVE boost from being sandwitched between infinity war and end game
They also tried to make it "required reading" for the common moviegoers due to the reference at the end of Infinity War which was completely and totally shoehorned in. I remember a lot of people going "Oh if you don't watch Captain Marvel, you won't know what's going on in Endgame!", which was one of the biggest marketing lies I've recently seen next to Scott Pilgrim.
@@mitrikgaduk347Not to mention Captain Marvel ended up being pointless in Avengers: Endgame. So much for building her up to be a legitimate threat to Thanos from that post-credits scene in Infinity War.
I really think this movie is fine. And trust me when I say, I was fully ready to hate this film. I was not a fan of the original Captain Marvel movie so I was actually really liking that Brie Larson was actually allowed to show some emotion here, our character has a bit of an arc this time, and she’s actually been shown to make mistakes in the past. That alone makes it a huge improvement over the first. But I also found myself enjoying the jokes and the dynamic between the three leads. About 30 minutes into the film both me and my friend were whispering to each other “Is this working for you too?” “Yeah I think it is”
I found Doug's comparison of "The Marvels" with "Five Nights at Freddy's" fascinating for a few reasons: 1. Yes, while I enjoyed the movie(FNAF), it is understandable why people would hate it, and it is half of a good movie trapped in there, while the other half is meh. That was the big thing I heard about The Marvels that some liked it, while others hated it, and even some said that there is a good movie trapped in there. 2. Apparently from what I heard, The Marvels cut a LOT from the original script, much like how the FNAF movie had a bunch of backstory missing from it, like more story about the killer and such. However, there is two MAJOR and disappointing differences that The Marvels and Five Nights at Freddy's have: One being, the Five Nights at Freddy's movie wasn't apart of the ongoing downward spiral of a Cinematic Universe and could be judged on its own as a movie we've waited 8 years for. And the even MORE messed up thing is... if you liked or hated the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, people DID go back and forth on their opinions, but it wasn't TOO extreme... but if you liked "The Marvels," you were given death threats and WAY worse threats for like the movie. It got so terrible with the back and forth on "The Marvels," that I just didn't even bother seeing it. And at least with the FNAF movie, its dumb-fun with haunted Chuck E. Cheese animatronics. It's a junk-food movie as the FNAF movie should be, but MCU fans are at the point that if that's the movie they continue to make for the MCU they'll flat out riot. Great review as always Doug!
To be honest, the MCU has been done since Endgame. I think people just don't want to accept the fact it is no longer a cool thing anymore. At least that's what I got out of it
@lancethefilmguy9392 I completely agree, as I'm one of those people. I've been there since the start, and I HOPE that the MCU could be good again... but because of mediocre films, toxic fanboys, and pretty bad shows (except Loki, and one or two more), it took a MASSIVE nosedive in quality
I liked The Marvels and She Hulk. I don't care if people think differently or don't like me. It's just a movie or TV stream for my own entertainment. Not theirs.
I think one of the problems that MCU is running into now is similar to the comics. Everything is so interconnected you need to devote a ton of time watching the older movies and shows to really understand who all these people are and what's going on.
Iman is a treasure, and I hope to see her appear in a more scaled down movie with the likes of Daredevil and Spider-Man. Not a big global threat, but small-scale. Like trying to stop Kingpin from winning the election for New York"s Mayor.
@@peterhanson3472 I had just graduated high school when Iron Man came out and my friends talked me into watching it. Loved it to death and was hooked until Endgame finished. Then I just gave up.
The best movie I can compare the Marvels to is Venom: Let Their Be Carnage. Both are notably shorter than their predecessor, They both have underwhelming villains played by actors trying their hardest, They have their main hero (Venom and Captain Marvel) dealing with a sitcom-esque predicament (Eddie and Venom break up and go their separate ways, Captain Marvel keeps switching places with her estranged niece and her biggest fan) and both have a post-credit scene with major implications but can go either way with following through with them. I saw The Marvels with a friend and while he though the movie was too silly, I personally enjoyed the movie. Although I do wish the villain was better written and they could of added 10 or 15 minutes to flesh out the more dramatic elements and the more creative set pieces, Marvels was still a solid movie thanks to Iman Vellani, the chemistry with the three actress and some of the action and humor. I feel like the marketing for this movie didn't do it justice, especially with the desperate Endgame references and the X-Men tease. If you go into Marvels with the mindset of seeing a nice, fun MCU romp, I think you'll have a good time.
Brie Larson had a very weird November, as she got to be in a bomb that followed up a huge success (Marvels) and a huge success that followed up a bomb (Scott Pilgrim). The fact these two happened at the same time is wild to me.
BL is an interesting actor. She is one of those actors who is really good at certain types of characters (she was perfect for Envy Adams in Scott Pilgrim) but struggles to adapt her acting if the character asks her to go out of her comfort zone. The MC was probably the worst example of this. It is fun and goofy and so it is not surprising her cynical stick stuck out like a sore thumb.
Disney's culture war and hating on the fans has been catching up with them since 2017, then really kicked in in 2020, and finally it reached culmination in 2023. Also Doug there's plenty of objectivity from people with silly thumbnails
@@ShadowSonic2 bruh they made videos before every project trying to frame criticism of their stuff as an ism or an obe and an ogyny. Then in the dialogue of shows like she-hulk and captain marvel and many others they do these passive aggressive attacks and Rian Johnson, their director that they picked, wanted to make something to piss off people that watched it. Oh also "the force is female" of course which is a nice middle finger to dudes. They're so insecure about who their fanbase was that they drove away most of their fanbase in order to pander and wage their culture war. Well the recent box office is a response to that
@@JohnGoetzGaming They literally did NOT do that. Fans might have, but the Movie Producers never did. There's nothing in Captain Marvel or She-Hulk that would offend decent people, just the ones out to hate both series/movies before they came out. Rian Johnson did what a good director should do. And if George Lucas wore a shirt saying "The Force is Male, you silly girls" he'd be worshiped for it. There is not Culture War
@@ShadowSonic2 He would not be worshipped he'd be cancelled by the culture warriors. There's certainly dialogue as they show comments that literally reflect legit criticism of their shows and act like they did some sick burn or have jen talk about how she has to deal with infinitely more stress than him. She's clearly a self insert for an insecure writer so it IS fun to laugh at their failed attempts at sarcasm but that's about the only entertainment to be had. Rian Johnson did not do that lol he basically seems to have a disdain for the franchise. They wage the culture war and started it under the veil of inclusion while ignoring all that came before that had legit representation nobody had a problem with. Basically if they cherry pick comments and make videos about how much hate they're getting, in their mind, for including a woman or a minority that's called fan-baiting and used as a little strategy to distract from their actual writing and universe breaking issues in their movies and/or had acting. It works on people who just believe corporate PR I guess.
I think another reason this didn’t do so well was that the finale of Loki Season 2 came out on the same day. I see people saying that the finale was much better than the Marvels. Maybe people saw Loki first, then went to see the Marvels. Seeing something amazing may end up making something that was okay seem even worst by comparison.
It's more jarring if you've seen Secret Invasion, then watch this movie. Nick Fury acts SO differently. The MCU is trying so vainly to have these IPs connect, and yet Kevin Feige himself didn't express to the writers of The Marvels that they need to keep Fury's character consistent with the guy that literally appeared right before this movie chronologically.
I had bought a ticket that cost (14 bucks btw) there was only one other guy, when Fury said "BLACK GIRL MAGIC!" we both collectively lost our shit. They ended up sitting next to me and we had a ball ripping this film apart.
I think Disney and Paramount (who run Star Trek) are trying to invite blk female audiences but MAJORITY are not interested in Science fiction and white nerds DEFINITELY don't want them in their spaces. Legit, South Korea entertainment has MORE black female attention with the new Gen Z obsessed with KDramas and KPop
It's wild to think that some critics, and I mean CRITIC CRITICS called this the worst marvel movie when Thor: Dark World, Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Thor: Love and Thunder exists. Like these are the people who see HUNDREDS of movies PER YEAR. Not the type of people on RUclips who ONLY see a certain type of film and call this "the worst movie ever made". Which also happened. I feel like this type of hyperbolic nonsense is really starting to drive people up the wall. You can't ever say a film is just AVERAGE (which is what this movie is) anymore. It's all about extremes even in film discussion. It sucks.
I gotta be honest this is the most harmless thing marvel has ever made. It’s not ground breaking it’s not god awful it’s just a fun little adventure film that’s COMPLETELY HARMLESS. Fun action, a couple decent ideas to make captain marvel pretty interesting, the Ms marvel family who who can at this point do no wrong, and a BONKERS post credit scene that Ngl I got pretty hyped for.
@@adamxx3 The part where they first start switching and the fight that takes place during, the scenes with Kamala's family, the Marvels' training montage, the silliness of the scene where they meet the people on Aladna, that scene with the Flerkens, the possibilities from the ending scene and the mid credits scene.
Maybe the editor was friends with the FX team and saw how they were being treated so they purposely made this movie look and feel disjointed to get back at executives. A very unlikely theory, of course.
Looking online I can't find a single comment that gets specific about why they like the movie. It's like it's full of bots trying to drown out the criticism the movie rightly deserves. Brie Larson wouldn't be disliked so much if she had apologized for being racist. Disney is in decline primarily because it's employees are social activists and kiddyphiles.
Supposedly Ms. Marvel's powers have a lot of drawbacks that could have been a focus: No strong emotions, no alcohol or vices, no using full power for too long ... teaching patience and strategy could have been a lesson to an impatient character. It's hard to take the emotional part serious if Brie Larson is stoic all the time - her character Envy Adams had more emotion.
I watch CNBC a lot and the day this film came out, they showed a clip of Bob Iger basically apologizing for it. He said they needed to focus on quality not quantity and went on and on. It was so weird to hear someone being that honest. You watch all these entertainment shows and they hype up every movie as the next Citizen Kane and here's the CEO of Disney and a bunch of reporters being brutally honest.
Wasn't Citizen Kane hated when it first debuted? If so, that may have been a smear campaign by William Randolph Hearst, who that movie was not-so-secretly based on.
Yo don't mock the thumbnails of Filmento. That man invented the concept of negative reviews and the word Failure written in the title. It must be true, he literally said it!
I'm one of those people that own almost all of the movies up to Avengers: Endgame, and I tend to go through all of them in order once a year. However, after that, I own the Eternals, the Spidermen movies, Dr. Strange 2, & Guardians 3 & nothing else. The writers in Disney have clearly gone massively downhill. However, based on the rumors that I've heard about how they were going to make T'Chala the next face of the MCU until his actor unfortunately passed away. That threw their plans into complete disarray and they've never compensated.
I finally got around the watching this and I don’t think it is as bad as people are making it out to be. The editing with the switching was indeed bad at the start of the film and the backstory between Captain Marvel and Dar-Benn felt choppy and rushed but I thought the action, character chemistry and world buildings were good. Certainly better than Thor: Love and Thunder, Eternals and Quantumania.
See I actually love the movie and it genuinely made me go from absolutely hating Captain Marvel as a character to actually kind of liking her. I think she had enough character development from the original to this to justify her as a character worth liking. Plus I mean Ms Marvel is a gem and we need more of her and everything. I mean her and the post credit scene with hailee Steinfeld was enough to boost this movie from a seven to an eight for me.
i don't give a f... about Marvel movies, since Iron Man 3 with was even worst than Iron Man 2, i just watched Iron Man 3 because i tought it was Impossible to make a movie so bad like Iron Man 2, well i was wrong.
Another major problem: the fighting scenes. Remove the laser beams VFX and you get people dancing in front of each other with some camera shake, motion blurr and CGI stuff blowing up. It gets boring really fast and you can't really understand what's at stake. Is the purple laser blast she just cast stronger than the blue one she received? Too bored to care, tbh.
I was wondering what you really thought about the marvels and thanks for giving us your thoughts on this movie and making my Saturday morning feel so much better ❤
One critque of Kamala Khan I have is her not questioning Captain Marvels actions and consequences from killing people (the Kree Empire). I think it wouldve been more powerful if she did have doubts about Captain Marvel and her idea of Marvel being this righetous, good hero.
The explination i've found is: They introduced Cap. Marvel in Endgame to replace Stark/Iron Man as the tent pole character The character of Cap Marvel, and the actress playing her, were both very poorly received She had already signed on to do another movie, so they added the other two characters to the script It was made as a legal obligation they had no faith in and didn't care about Of course that's a bad movie
It's funny because Brie Larson is a great actor, but what the hell is with her performance as captain Marvel. It's so boring, Carol can't be that awful of a character for brie just to phone it in.
@@Killgore-ip2yq she was definitely better in this movie. I think the reason her performance was so dry previously was because she was still recovering her memories at the time, so she didn't have anything to base a personality on
FNAF worked, no idea were you got your opinion on that one. guess you should actually know something about fnaf before you see it. The critics, and websites, that rated it poorly were the ones that were bought and paid for by Disney. If you really want to know how good that movie was look at the box office, its already made over 110 MILLION dollars, and for GOOD REASON. as for ms marvel? considering the insufferable main actress as well as completely throwing out decent script writers in exchange for barely literate activists, we're lucky the actresses weren't drooling all over themselves.
So, Angry Joe is, as you claim, "bought and paid for by Disney", because he gave FNAF a bad review? Yet, he also gave The Marvels a bad review. Yeah...... your "logic" doesn't hold up.
@@echolocationn huh, had no idea angry Joe was like that, thanks for the info, had a higher opinion of him until you told me that, always nice to receive new info
@@Greenlightsaber1 FNAF did well because of the insane online marketing it had and the massive FNAF fandom desperate to see it's FIRST big movie. And BTW, every writer is an activist. Stan Lee was an activist. The only ones who think that's a bad thing are outdated buffoons.
So here is my review of the movie, which kinda goes in to what everyone is saying, both good and bad. It is: "A Comic Con Fan Film with a Disney budget." From that perspective, EVERYTHING is explained. And if you have ever seen a fan film at a Con, this is what it looks like.
@@ShadowSonic2 And it's lack of success is really not doing anything to disperse the theory the first one did well BECAUSE of the belief it was going to matter to Endgame when it ultimately meant little.
@@lancethefilmguy9392 Most of them didn't know it was out, because there was barely any marketing or advertising or promotions. Those that did were misled to think they needed to see WandaVision, Secret Invasion and Ms Marvel to understand the movie (they didn't) and a lot figure "Why go see it in the expensive theater when we can see it for free on D+ in 2 months?" Barbie on the other hand, wasn't going to streaming super fast so folks felt they had to see it in the theater.
Usually when it comes to modern Disney (this is a problem for both Marvel and Star Wars) I find myself saying "Why was this a show? It should've been a movie". This time, I found myself kind of saying the opposite. With all the locations and world building they wanted to fit in, why wasn't this a show? Why couldn't we get an episode to explore every location and culture to really set up how they might be used in future movies? This way there would be room for character building (for the one that needs more because Wanda vision introduced her but did not do her justice) as well as all the emotional moments. Nothing would've had to be cut, it could just flow with space and time to do what it needs to do. Why did they try to force it into a movie? Why are they taking these stories that are clearly movies and trying to stretch them out into shows, then taking these stories that are definitely full enough to be a show, and trying to cram them into movies? I just don't understand 😭.
Because if we had all these movies, the burn out would be even worse. All the character centric stuff from Phase 1 and 2 are now on Disney+ - that’s why the movies largely feel like in-between stories and lack crossovers.
@@benwasserman8223 that doesn't really answer the question. As is; we already have burn out. There's so much content now, a new Marvel or Star Wars product isn't as much of an event. If you have a story that works best as a show and doesn't work as a movie, why make it a movie? If you have a story with enough content for a movie but not enough to fill a series, why spend more time and money to try and stretch it into a series? If we moved stories around into the formats that would best suit them yes we'd have more movies, but they could put the smaller ones straight to Disney+ to make up for the overload, and also have some killer shows. So many recent bombs in terms of movies I genuinely believe could've been better if they had been shows and been given more time (people are gonna come for me about these, but 'The Marvels', 'Thor Love And Thunder', 'The Eternals' are a few). So many shows that we're underwhelming would've been more effective as movies ('Hawkeye' (it was good, but would've been better as a movie), 'She-Hulk' (this probably wouldn't have saved it, but it would've been more forgivable), 'Secret Invasion', 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier').
@@willowwhisps1339 But they haven’t been bombs. Until recently the movies have made bank even received good reviews. The issue is simply people feel overwhelmed- adding more films definitely wouldn’t solve that issue.
The difference between Five Nights at Freddy's and The Marvels is FNaF made twice the domestic haul of The Marvels at 7% of the cost. So a "half a good movie" in FNaF should be "14 good movies" worth of movie with the Marvels.
This movie was actually edited down from I think 2 hours and 10 minutes to an hour and 30 minutes. Personally I thought it was fun. Not terrible like some people claim (still goes to Thor Love & Thunder as worse marvel movie) but not great. It's good the less you think about it. It also feels like a sequel to a movie we never got. I had low expectations going in, and was plesently surprised, even liked the action scene where they all switch places, as well as when Captain Marvel is like "we need to save as many as we can." I even liked the singing planet.
As many of here say. I watched this movie because of Ms Marvel. She is awesome. I loved the series and Iman Vellani. I am a teacher and teach many muslim kids. She is so genuine and her perfomance feels so real. It is like seeing one of my students being in a movie.
Still need to see this movie but this was a very good review and recommendation! Your videos are always fantastic! Glad to see you working so hard on your disneycember project for this year! This movie will certainly be on my list for before next year!
I feel like this is getting so common to MCU movies. They feel like SOMETHING was pulled out of it. Like something internal that was there during the writing process was ripped out and left hollow. The same thing happened in the sequel trilogy. It feels like corporate compromise. To the detriment of what would make a good movie, but holding for the most product that says the least without offending the most. Hollow. It's sad to say that while watching Loki's finale... I enjoyed it. But I felt something missing there too. Right at the end. It was powerful, but I felt that same... hollowness. Less than most. Turns out, the penultimate script for the series was tossed out and re-written due to executive meddling. Hollow movies are... fine. But I'd rather a passion project fail with heart than from lack of one.
What if I told you that the catastrophe known as Superhero Fatigue could be prevented if during the height of MCU, Disney does put an effort into their movie such as the live action Kim Possible DCOM. But some guy over Disney who values nothing but billions doesn't give a damn about an effort, so the catastrophe happened... All I can say is... *"Imagine the cruel memes"*
I honestly think the biggest mistake was cutting out the time (you have THREE characters to develop, come on) there were a lot of themes with great potential
Honestly, I don't get the backlash towards this. I had a GREAT time with it! I followed the story easy enough. The characters were acted well and their arcs were all easy to follow. Personally, I had no issue with the editing. I could understand where everyone was and what they were doing. I will agree that the villain wasn't really that interesting. That's really my only critique with the film. Overall, I just had an absolute blast with the film and I'm REALLY interested in seeing where the MCU goes in the future :)
@@RikouHogashi, Why "understandable hate"? I don't get it. Also, I don't get the hate for Brie Larson. If this is about her speech for more diversity in critics, I agree with her. The worst she did was choose her words poorly. That's it.
The reason why the editing was so bad is because of all the negative pre screenings, they had to edit out all the woke stuff just so the movie was at least watchable to normal people who are not far left
The whole "the film seemed like there was 30 minutes cut out" thing is common right now. They actually made Watiti cut 30 minutes out of love and thunder and the clips theyve released would have hardcore elevated the film. Idk why marvel, a studio that's known for 2 1/2 hour films has decided their films need to be an hour and a half-2hrs. Iger's smart to be cutting marvel film releases. Chapek's schedule screwed the studio.
I feel like this movie was "fine" as a filler episode of a tv show. It felt like we were supposed to know who all three of these people were and it was supposed to be a continuation of their story, but the previous shows did a piss poor job of establishing Carol and Monica. I feel like if future movies flesh out these characters, people may come back to this film and find it "underrated". But as an installment in a bigger series it feels like this was supposed to team up a few side characters and give a small, fun adventure to round out a full season, but the side characters weren't given enough to do beforehand for the audience to care about them.
Two of the most crucial elements that determine the success of a film are STRUCTURE and TONE. Unfortunately, these elements are very difficult for both producers and audiences to be aware of and understand. This lack of understanding is why so much art is mediocre. Producers throw together things that they think make a movie successful, and audiences pick on small things rather than looking at how the movie works as a whole.
I didn’t like this movie, but, Iman is such a great actress, she brings a lot of energy and joy to the film, Ms marvel really is the best part. I’m happy she cares so much for marvel, hopefully she gets better projects in the future!
This is probably the last Marvel movie made in the Chapek era. I think the projects that are still in pre-production like Thunderbolts, Blade, Fantastic 4 & Armor Wars is where we gonna see that change Iger was talking about
Chapek’s a scapegoat, so much of what’s wrong with Disney these days is Iger’s fault. Not saying that Chapek didn’t have his problems, but he is not to blame for the majority of disneys woes. Also this movie was green lit when Iger was president.
On the second day of Disneycember the Critic gave to me, two quantum bands, and A crappy video game movie. Actual thoughts, Kamala was the only character I really cared about in that movie.
The problem is that 2 of the 3 characters are pure garbage characters. Carl Manvers is hated because they keep trying to make her the new face of the Company having her steal Mar-Vell's mantle, trying to pretend she's the strongest or fastest or smartest character just to try to get folks to like her has failed, then you have Kamala who is a trash character that nobody liked so they kept trying to shove her down the throat of fans saying "look she was a fan and she's a gurl" and her power is a rip-off of Reed Richards in the comics and for the show they had to figure out a way to change it enough that it didn't cost them billions in CGI but it was just as bad, heck they even offer her so they could turn her into a mutant in the comics but couldn't sell her "death of" comic well enough because everyone knew her death was a sham. Photon is the only 1 of these 3 that is moderately ok because she is original and not just a stolen identity
I really don't see what everyone's problem is with Captain Marvel in the MCU. I loved the first one and we saw this last night and we loved it. It's far from the BEST Marvel movie but it's a far cry from the worst one either. No it's not terribly deep or introspective or anything but man was it fun. If a movie gets me to burst out laughing more than 5 times (because it's funny not because I'm laughing ironically) then it's doing something right. The weakest part of the film for me was the villain and like Doug said it's not because the actress isn't trying, she REALLY is but because this villain came out of nowhere and we weren't really given any time to get attached to her so her ultimate defeat didn't really leave any impact. But aside from that and a few nitpicks this movie was loads of fun. If anyone wants to see a great, simple, but ultimately entertaining marvel movie. This one fits the bill to me.
Im hearing from so many sources, including some that use the micky mouse crying, that Iman seems like a nice person who is invested in her character. Like she seems really happy that she is playing Ms Marvel and is doing her best to portray her. That enthusiasm is showing and its impossible to deny. I really hope that Disney can do her justice in the future. She deserves it.
I loved this, it certainly isn’t worth the hate it gets. I’d say it’s on the middle with Dr Strange. Iman Vellani is fun, and I’m glad Brie Larson has more personality, but still struggling with those serious moments, I love Monica Rambeau and would love to see her have more. Also thought the editing was good for the switching scenes.
The movie is actually good. Not like amazingly good, and sure not masterpiece, but pretty good and don't deserve hate. And hating women by gender must stop.
Captain Marvel committed GENOCIDE between films, and Disney wants us to sympathize with her when she doesn't like getting called out for what she did? "Strong female superhero" does NOT equal VIOLENT GENOCIDAL MANIAC.
Regarding Doug's comments on the musical moments, I wonder if he's seen "The Guy who Didn't Like Musicals". For those who don't know what I'm talking about, imagine something like The Thing, but you can tell if someone is an alien because they sing.

Awesome video!
It's sad that Iman joined the MCU during its decline. She has major potential as a young actress, and I hope that she gets better scripts afterwards.
And a character people care about.
She deserved a film on her own, without Brie looking bored and fed up the entire time .. get rid of that character… awful.
@@milkiassamuel780 the problem is the character and costume are bland and not selling tickets or garnering Disney + or cable viewers.
I think everyone universally agrees that Iman Vellani was the best part of the movie and that makes me happy

Except being in the worst performing tv show and movie will definitely hurt her future career prospects, however unfair that is

@@JacksonLane02 That energy is pretty infectious and I hope she shows up in some other movies and shows even with Marvel in a rut at the moment.
Ms Marvel was easily the best Marvel of the movie
Her upbeat personality, relatable reactions and selfless nature made her more interesting than the other two
Damn it, why couldn’t she be the Captain Marvel we follow throughout the MCU?
Nah, the Roger Corman Fantastic Four is the best Marvel movie ever, or Cannon Pictures pitch for Spider-Man where he was a gigantic human spider monster fighter the evil Doctor Zork.
Naaaaaa! The ORIGINAL live action Thor.....that's the best!
The bar is so low that Iman acting like a fan girl is the highlight of a near 300 million-dollar movie.
I hated her. 😂
What a funny person.
Is that why Ant-Man 2 did super well? Oh wait...

What about Scott Pilgrim?
I really think this movie is fine. And trust me when I say, I was fully ready to hate this film. I was not a fan of the original Captain Marvel movie so I was actually really liking that Brie Larson was actually allowed to show some emotion here, our character has a bit of an arc this time, and she’s actually been shown to make mistakes in the past. That alone makes it a huge improvement over the first. But I also found myself enjoying the jokes and the dynamic between the three leads. About 30 minutes into the film both me and my friend were whispering to each other “Is this working for you too?” “Yeah I think it is”
I found Doug's comparison of "The Marvels" with "Five Nights at Freddy's" fascinating for a few reasons:
Not theirs.
@mychaeljones7526 exactly the right way to view it! You like what you like, and people shouldn't be toxic for not agreeing with you!
Who received death threats for liking the Marvels?
4:31 "A lot of people like Captain Marvel.."
Are you sure about that?
It’s because Captain Marvel the movie was still a big hit
I think one of the problems that MCU is running into now is similar to the comics. Everything is so interconnected you need to devote a ton of time watching the older movies and shows to really understand who all these people are and what's going on.

One critque of Kamala Khan I have is her not questioning Captain Marvels actions and consequences from killing people (the Kree Empire). I think it wouldve been more powerful if she did have doubts about Captain Marvel and her idea of Marvel being this righetous, good hero.
The explination i've found is:
They introduced Cap. Marvel in Endgame to replace Stark/Iron Man as the tent pole character
The character of Cap Marvel, and the actress playing her, were both very poorly received
She had already signed on to do another movie, so they added the other two characters to the script

So here is my review of the movie, which kinda goes in to what everyone is saying, both good and bad. It is: "A Comic Con Fan Film with a Disney budget." From that perspective, EVERYTHING is explained. And if you have ever seen a fan film at a Con, this is what it looks like.
Who asked for a sequel to Captain Marvel?
1 billion did
@@ShadowSonic2 And it's lack of success is really not doing anything to disperse the theory the first one did well BECAUSE of the belief it was going to matter to Endgame when it ultimately meant little.
@@ShadowSonic2Did all billion like the movie?
@@lancethefilmguy9392 Most of them didn't know it was out, because there was barely any marketing or advertising or promotions. Those that did were misled to think they needed to see WandaVision, Secret Invasion and Ms Marvel to understand the movie (they didn't) and a lot figure "Why go see it in the expensive theater when we can see it for free on D+ in 2 months?"
Barbie on the other hand, wasn't going to streaming super fast so folks felt they had to see it in the theater.
@@ShadowSonic2 1 billion who didn't go see it and it became the biggest flop in the MCU?
On the second Disneycember my Critic gave to me
2 Captain Marvels
And a Plumber in a shitty movie
They SHOULD be having a rough year, rough as a cob, baby!!❤
Hey, Channel Awesome, since this month is Disney-cember, when will we get your review of Once Upon A Studio.
He thinks this movie is more entertaining than Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3😂
O Captain, My Captain!
- Ms. Marvel, 2023
As many of here say. I watched this movie because of Ms Marvel. She is awesome. I loved the series and Iman Vellani.
I am a teacher and teach many muslim kids. She is so genuine and her perfomance feels so real. It is like seeing one of my students being in a movie.
On the 2nd day of disneycember the critic gave for me:
2 Swapping places
And a weird videogame movie for me
On the second day of Disneycember, Doug Walker gave to me:
2 Flerken kittens
and
A crap video game movie
Still need to see this movie but this was a very good review and recommendation! Your videos are always fantastic! Glad to see you working so hard on your disneycember project for this year! This movie will certainly be on my list for before next year!
People can slander Marvel all they want but I'll say one thing for them, they knew what they were doing casting Iman Vellani.
Source on Loki s2? I'm curious
MCU films like this make me think: "When is this phase over?"
I'm one of those people who actually loved the five nights at freddy's movie and compared to this that movie is a masterpiece
This really needed a better villain, in any moment of the film I thought 'yes, this villain is dangerous'
I honestly think the biggest mistake was cutting out the time (you have THREE characters to develop, come on) there were a lot of themes with great potential
Transformers already did the singing planet thing back in 1986.
And it probably sucked even more then.
Y@@jlev1028 Indeed. Worst episode ever.
Most likely due to the the persistent understandable hate for captain marvel and the actress who played her more than anything else
@@RikouHogashi, Why "understandable hate"? I don't get it.
Also, I don't get the hate for Brie Larson. If this is about her speech for more diversity in critics, I agree with her. The worst she did was choose her words poorly. That's it.
@@RikouHogashi Larson didn't so anything that would offend decent people
The reason why the editing was so bad is because of all the negative pre screenings, they had to edit out all the woke stuff just so the movie was at least watchable to normal people who are not far left
Seriously hoping for elemental
...And G-force!
Not been feeling good lately. Your videos always make me feel better!😊😊😊😊
This movie was great. I enjoyed every second of it, and if I get the chance to, I’ll go watch it in theaters a second time.
Where has Rob been he hasn't been in an episode in so long???
You guys make the month so much better 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Day 61 waiting for the ,,G-force" movie review by the ,,Nostalgia Critic" Pretty please!
What did you expect? Her husband is Loki)))
This is probably the last Marvel movie made in the Chapek era. I think the projects that are still in pre-production like Thunderbolts, Blade, Fantastic 4 & Armor Wars is where we gonna see that change Iger was talking about
Doubt for Blade. That movie been in production hell
Don't blame him, blame Iger.
nope still majorly chapek is the problem.@@lancethefilmguy9392
Yes, Iger gave the directions, but Chapek interpreted it all wrong.
Chapek’s a scapegoat, so much of what’s wrong with Disney these days is Iger’s fault. Not saying that Chapek didn’t have his problems, but he is not to blame for the majority of disneys woes. Also this movie was green lit when Iger was president.
On the second day of Disneycember the Critic gave to me, two quantum bands, and
A crappy video game movie.
Actual thoughts, Kamala was the only character I really cared about in that movie.
On second day of Disneycember Doug send me
Two Marvel downfalls
And a classic review from the past.
DisneyCember is one of my grown up holiday traditions guys! You arr fantastic 🔥🔥🔥🔥🎄🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Day 61 waiting for the ,,G-force" movie review by the ,,Nostalgia Critic" Pretty please!
The only Marvel about this movie is how badly it's bombing at the Box Office.
I’m actually interested in your hearing your thoughts on this movie for sure I’m surprised to your hear your thoughts
Day 61 waiting for the ,,G-force" movie review by the ,,Nostalgia Critic" Pretty please!
Proves Doug isn't a Transformers fan. Assault on D Minor
The day the marvel bubble finally popped
All she did was destroy the Supreme Intelligence. That's not genocide
Regarding Doug's comments on the musical moments, I wonder if he's seen "The Guy who Didn't Like Musicals". For those who don't know what I'm talking about, imagine something like The Thing, but you can tell if someone is an alien because they sing.
