  • We review the Samsung Q95T, a 2020 4K QLED TV from the South Korean brand. Topics covered include local dimming, colour accuracy, video processing, motion performance, screen uniformity, HDR and gaming, as well as occasional side-by-side comparison vs Q90R.
Our findings can also be applied to the Q90T which shares the same panel, video processing and software as the Q95T, only without the separate One Connect box.
Our review sample is the 55-inch Samsung QE55Q95T, but the Q95T is also available in larger screen sizes of 65, 75 and 85 inches.
Thanks to Crampton & Moore Leeds for sponsoring this video. If you're thinking about getting a new TV, even if it's not the Samsung Q95T, please support this channel by considering buying from them. Call 0113 244 6607, mention HDTVTest, and you'll receive great price and service.

it took me a month to choose, between Sony A9G, LG GX/C9 and Samsung Q90R...and then the Q95T came along, it matches all my requirements, so I purchased it last weekend, after 2 days testing, I can say: excellent picture performance when watching a terrestrial channel, amazing picture when watching 4K video on youtube. The operating system is excellent, the brushed metal remote feels great in hand and TIZEN is super fast. I don't have to worry about burn-in, it came out to be cheaper as well....I am very happy with the purchase I just need to hang it to the wall now, two months now...some setting issues with bose compatibility headphones, but quickly resolve, thanks for the 24/7 samsung helpline and the help of the remote access technician. The picture still absolutely amazing!!! My best TV ever....

How is the TV in game mode? Are the blacks still deep? And do you have any blooming issues?
Samsung's game mode is often vastly inferior to standard picture quality therefore I'm curious. I too am interested in the Q95T but want it exclusively for PS4/PS5/PC gaming.

As a previous owner of a LG OLED I switched to the Samsung Q90T because the ABL in the LG was making HDR in games well not really that spectacular and it was pretty disappointing, I loved the OLED for everything else but I gotta say this TV has blown me away in everything, watching Aquaman I had specular highlights in scenes that just blew me away something my OLED could never have done, I thought HDR was great on OLED but HDR watching on the Q90T is incredible. Ive done videos talking about this I definitely think Q90T is the best gaming TV if your a fan of brighter more vibrant games, it also has the best input lag (5ms at 120hz), it does have issues outputting to 60hz with some inverse ghosting unless you use game motion plus so watch out for that. This review was fantastic and it echoes a lot of the things I've said about the TV. Again your channel is an awesome gem in the TV enthusiast community thank you for all the hard work you do Vincent!

You do realise that this is an 8bit + frc panel, it's a fake 10bit panel, Fast forward to 10 minutes on this video and Vincent even points out the q90t looks like an 8bit panel.
I was going to upgrade from q6fn but seeing the Batman part. I put it on and q6fn smashed it. How is that when it's a series 6 and 2018 model. Has to be cause q6fn is a real 10bit panel not fake 10bit.
I'm pissed off Samsung went dodgy. I really wanted the q95t, but I'm not supporting fake 10bit panel's or they will always do this in the future.
8bit panel in 2020 pretty sure they stopped using 8bit in 2017 maybe 2016.

Then there's a few websites that claim the the Q95T has 120 dimming zones, whereas the Q90T has 96 dimming zones and then you've tested 120 dimming zones on the Q95T 55''. Is there something going on with different panels being supplied? I remember this being an issue with Samsung in the past... Reaching out to Samsung gave me no results, but I would like to know. 96 vs 120 should make quite a difference with the new algorithm.

I've been torn for a couple of weeks between the Samsung Q90R and the LG C9, but the more I waited the more I noticed people pointing out defects and issues. Both of these TV's in England sit around £1200 which I consider reasonable to a next-gen ready TV, however the more I wait the more I'm concerned about them. Game mode on the Q90R is depressing. The Q95T is around £2000 currently, which is almost double the price, but it clearly shows in this video how much better it handles gaming which is my #1 priority. I still think LG look better for gaming but I am definitely unlucky enough to get burn-in despite many people saying not to worry. It's that situation where people pretend something doesn't happen until it happens to them personally. Testing dozens or TV's for months with no issues doesn't prove that certain unlucky people won't have it happen, and the comments and video proof I've seen speaks volumes. Then there's the Sony XH90 /X900H which claims to support next gen with most of the features we need, but nobody has said a good thing about that TV and websites don't have solid reviews up of it yet. We still have maybe 4-5 months before next gen launches, but I'm still stressing heavily on which TV will satisfy me AND last long enough to survive the PS5/Series X life cycle.

8 bit panels shows 16.7 million colors and 10 bit panels shows over 1 billion colors. FRC( Frame Rate Control) technic is used in 8 bit panels to refresh the original shades of colors in 8 bit range in cycles to produce or simulate an intermediate shade that doesn't fall in 8 bit shades. 10 bit and 8 bit+frc isn't much different in terms of perceivable color depth.

11:26 on the Q95T. Play it down in slowmotion (0.25x)... is that... the inverse ghosting everyone's talking about? The pixel-overdrive artifacts? Focus on the cave's rock formations when panning the camera. I see clear extremely bright (green/blue'ish) discoloration following the lines of the objects and I think this is what everyone's complaining about in game mode @ either 60hz or with freesync (and thus often 60hz with console gaming, also @ 30 fps). Hi, I would like to know if the Q90T, compared to the Q80T, would show a brighter picture for very dark scenes in HDR mode (I mean just PQ based HDR10 without HDR10+). I am aware of that the Q90T can reach a higher HDR peak brightness than the Q80T, but I just mean the brightness in darker scenes in HDR mode. According to my understanding of how PQ based HDR works and what I saw in the EOTF curves shown in your reviews for the Q90t and the Q80T (curves are identical in the lower luminance levels) the brighness for dark scenes should be about the same on both TVs, but I m not sure if my assumption is correct.

I've just bought a Samsung TV (90T) after having the LG CX , this is
brighter in my living room, where the LG looked dim, colors were a
little more accurate in general with the LG and shadow resolution
information was better but on sunny day the LG Oled was just too
    dull/dark.
Yes I had the LG brightness cranked up.
If I were to pick a TV for a room I could make completely dark, I would
    choose the LG, no question.

away you are going to view it, PAY ATTENTION.

Watched your review on my Q90R. For us the killer feature of the Q90R/Q95T is the anti-reflection panel. Irrespective of what OLED can do for black levels, it matters not if you're unable to use your panel in the daytime. And in the daytime we've got conditions at a certain time of day, mostly in summer, that makes the Q90R struggle a bit.
Until I change my house QLED LCD is the way to go… that's until someone comes out with a quantum dot OLED. 😂

    • @IntoxicatedVortex
      @IntoxicatedVortex 4 года назад

@darkjedi351 I'm pretty sure the "issue" for us is that there is excessive light coming from not only from the side but also from behind us (not the behind the TV… us). So rather than it being an issue of overall brightness it seems more of an angle thing. Even the Q90R has its moments when it gets bright ambient lighting both ways where it gets this odd, I don't know how to describe it, shimmer I guess… closing the side window will always fix it.
And as Brandon noted, this is not an attack on LG OLED panels, or even OLED in general. Rather, some TVs are better suited to certain circumstances than others. Especially when one needs to take into account the opinions of a certain "other" that in always in my vicinity and whose opinion I'd prefer not matter, but I value my peace and quiet more than I do that minor gain in inky blacks and 4K HDR game mode. The Q90R was simply the best fit at the time.

Hey Vincent, I am looking to purchase a new Samsung QLED for my theatre room and in Australia we can only get the Q95T in a maximum size of 75 inch and the Q80T in 85 inch. If both sets were priced equally, which of the two would you recommend for movie watching? Many thanks!

    local dimming in game mode?
real contender right here. i'd struggle to choose between this and oled at the same price. i might have gone with this, honestly.
not that i regret buying my oled, but i think the peace of mind and better performance in a bright room are a bit more useful more of the time than awesome pitch-black room performance of oled that isn't that impressive in daylight.

    Subtitles bug- Be Warned.
There is a really annoying issue in this TV that seems to be missed by most reviewers.
While watching HDR content in Netflix, If Local Dimming set to Medium or High, Whenever subtitles show up the whole screen dims a bit.
Only way to Avoid it is set the local dimming to LOW, but than there’s a quite noticeable impact to the PQ, especially in dark scenes. (changing color or transparency to subtitles doesn’t help)
This is a serious issue that make this set a total miss for some people.
Too bad it didn’t get the right attention it needs, as it makes it a very unreliable choice for people who watch most of their HDR content with subtitles…

I saw this tv today vs the LG, Philips and Panasonic OLEDs. They were in dynamic mode which looked really bad and colours were all too blue. All the OLEDs looked very similar, the Samsung looked really good showing the food demo you see in this video. Sometimes the OLEDs looked noisy which was strange. IMO all TVs looked great and you can’t go wrong with any of them

There's definitely some confusion here and it might be that Samsung want's it that way. One user in the AVForums was told by Samsung that the panel is not 10 bit. More information seems to suggest that the 10 bit panel is used in the 900 series. But nothing is confirmed.
