Best washer EVER ! I washed knit sweaters, bras, full slips, never tangled. My "ex" got it in the divorce. Had I known it was to be discontinued I would have bought another and put it in storage. Paid $550 in 1976...worth every penny.
I had one of these when I was a bachelor. I worked construction and did my own repairs on my car. I had a plethora of levi's, for work and play. I only had to do laundry once every 3 weeks with this washing machine with it's matching gas dryer. It was only two loads, one was whites and the other was darks. Spray the greasy spots with the aerosol "SHOUT" and a cup of TIDE then let the washer beat the clothes clean. I sold it to my roommate when I got married. I miss that washer.
Samantha had this same washer and dryer on the TV show Bewitched. On various episodes the laundry room is in the shot during a scene, and you see the Frigidaire washer and dryer in the background. My mom always wanted this washer, but never got one.
Any washing machine manufactured after 2010 (with the hundreds of confusing idiot buttons) will only last you but a few years. There are tons of videos of washers from the 1970's still working. That has to tell you something. I am glad I just bought a 1999 Kenmore washer. I LOVE it.
Ah, the good old days when GM owned Frigidaire! Thanks for showing the "Thumper" mechanism! Now I know why Frigidaire washer ads in the 1960's and 70's used to brag, "No gears, no pulleys, no belt!"
they really cleaned your clothes, my mom had 2 between 1967 and the late 80's , it was the best and longest lasting washer she ever had The commercial for these in the day, was the washer in wash cycle and they dropped a sock on the top and it went to the bottom of the washer,
Lol our "Wonder" front loader just took a crap and I have been trying to find a washer that will actually wash clothes and not just make them wet and smell pretty. My parents had one of these when I was a kid and although noisy, that bugger cleaned clothes really well!!! Still haven't found anything that impresses me yet.
@JSneaker ...Phosphates are great for cleaning, and if you had a grey water reclamation system for your household wastewater, it would be one thing, but the algae blooms in the river system from the phosphates in the sewer water from those detergents were really harmful. You don't want to go back to that, I assure you.
I remember I had a washer like this along with Rinso detergent. The good old days. Try using liquid fabric softener to soften the clothes and to minimize wrinkling and for easy ironing. I think they didn't have fabric softener back then so we had to starch all of our clothes.
They should bring this machine back!!! With all the new HE detergents now you have more choices, instesd of "Dash" or "Amway" put this machine back on the market, it will give front loaders a run for there money, and "those agitators" that started with Kenmore, and now have graduated to almost every top loader USELESS!!!!!!!!!
I used to rebuild these Rollermatics back in the day. Rust, corroded pot metal and galled ball bearings - what a nightmare. And relatively expensive due to the parts count. You needed several special tools to work on em (including a torch to get the damned thing apart). Then if your clearances weren't right it'd either lock up, not wash or spin slowly. Thank God these Rube Goldbergs are history.
My mom swore by this washer, I think she owned the same one my entire childhood! Thanks for the post!

We had one of these! When I was a little boy, I'd love to watch the "JetCone" agitator through the window in the washer lid.

My mother did laundry for 6 and she said it was the best cleaning washer she ever had. Why would they stop making a machine like this style.
When GM sold fridgidare, White Westinghouse decided the mechanism of the agitator was just too expensive. It was a higher end washer in its day
5 of us, same thing.
What a shame that these type of washers are no longer manufactured!

"All Frigidaire Jet Cone washers clean better than the best-selling brand's best washer." (If I recall right, the test was a Frigidaire vs. a Kenmore)
Actually I wrote late 80s it was late 90s
nice machine,my neighbors had one growing up,I remember how noisy it was.The whole neighborhood knew you were doing laundry!
I had one like it in 1970. It broke down couldn't afford to get it fixed and it broke my heart as I felt it cleaned clothes very well, OLD SCHOOL
With These Frigidaire Jet Action Machines I Like How They Fill
This gives the machine a more "wash board" effect....I like the lint catcher. They really don't make them like they use to!

How do clothes not get stuck under the jumper when it hops up and down??
That’s the one I’ve been looking for!! Thanks so much!!
Amazing - thanks for the inside look! I always thought these things went up and down because of of a cam rod. Who knew?? : )
Best washer dryer set I ever owned
this machine is soooo coooool .
Roseanne had the same machine in the sitcom

One of the best washing machine I've had, Someone stole it from a rental property. What a sad day that was.

Are you talking about ALL Frigidaire's or just the models of this time period?
Best washing machine ever!
Where can I find one to purchase it
O M G--my Mother loved that washer--I would hold the agitater and my arms went up and down---it was funny back then-wonder if there are any to be sold
Rollermatics and SkinnyMinis made from around the early sixties to the mid-seventies
looks like great machine
I Would Actually Love To Have This One And The Dryer Too
These washers are referred to as 1-18's-pronounced 'one to eighteen's'
The mechanism they does all the work sure does have car engine technology!
I wish the real Frigidaire existed.
Because you could put one to eighteen pounds of laundry in them (actually one piece to eighteen pounds).

my mind is too dirty for this
My ROFLWasher goes soi soi soi soi soi soi...
as a little girl i was so scared of those.
it plunges not agitates
Our washer just spins side to side
Fast?!
Well now I know why the swivel agitator outsold them and later ruled the world for awhile, at least in the USA anyhow.
It is so weird looking. I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!
I thought it turns
These things were noisy and splasy as !@#$, and apparently not all that reliable either. But they could clean like nobody's business.
That’s a washer
The first dual-purpose washer. Do laundry in the daytime, do women at nighttime!
