Watch our tutorial to see how the front insert pocket is created for all your casual pants, shorts, and skirts. WEBSITE: www.professorp... BLOG: www.professorp...
Thank you so much for posting this. I followed step-by-step, and the pockets came out great. I wanted to add pockets to a pants pattern that didn't have pockets, so I combined two different patterns, tracing the pocket line onto the pattern, and everything matched up. Your instructions are very clear and concise!
check out our website. As part of our premium membership, we actually have pattermaking tutorials for the basic pants and cigarette pants. For shorts, you can follow the same steps, just shorten the length for whatever length you'd desire. so you can easily make pants, shorts, capris.
I just stumbled on your site, and I'll be interested to see all your techniques. I'm an intermediate level sewer, and love watching sewing videos. They are better than a movie for me. Thanks for posting.
Great tutorial! I have a pattern for shorts w/o instructions so this was very helpful. Now to find a tutorial to help me figure out the back and waistband.
Thank you. I just found this in time. I just finished modifying a shorts pattern to include pockets similar to yours based off of memory and looking at other pants but I was not 100% sure how to put it all together. You not only answered my question of how to do it but made me realise that I should add more markings to ensure things matched up.
This is a great tutorial. What I need now is how to construct the pattern pieces. I have a basic muslin pant with no pockets at all but would like to add these. I have a front and back pants pattern and have added a fly front but don't know how to draw these pocket pieces from the pieces that I have.
Thank you for this tutorial. I noticed the facing helps take care of the raw edge on the top of the pocket, but you only sew a regular stitch for the bottom of the pocket and the raw edge is still exposed....how do we address this? I have a feeling the pocket fabric will fray while wearing...
Thank you so much for uploading this wonderful clear and concise video. I am currently making my first jumpsuit and was about to give up until I seen your video ♡
your videos are very helpful. Do you have a video that shows the basic technique of how to put the shorts together after creating pockets and front zipper fly?
Thanks a lot, your illustration and explanation are so clear and made simple. I was able to sew my trousers pockets and zipper from your videos. 👍👍👍💕💕how do I join the back and front sides to finish.
after you finish the pockets, you can place pants front and pants back together and sew at the side seam. After that you move on to attaching the waistband.
Very nice and helpful vid although here in the Netherlands the facing doesn't look similar to the pocketpiece, My son's pockets look great thanks to you.
hmmm....make sure that you're lining up the pieces they want you to match. So for instance, back piece goes with back and front with front. The back crotch length will be longer than the front because we need extra room in the back for our behind. If you're sure you're doing it correctly though, send an email to the pattern customer service. I've come across pattern mistakes before :(
omg, I'm so sorry. I don't know how I missed your comment. :( a couple of easy ways to do this is use another pocket pattern from a preexisting pattern (check out our tracing wheel video for an easy way to copy) Another way is to copy from an existing pair of pants with the pockets you want. If you have organza fabric, pin it over the pocket on the inside of the pants and using chalk or pen to trace the pocket on your organza. Don't forget to then add seam allowance and cut out. good luck!
Technically, only the inside pocket/facing piece is the "facing". The front pocket piece (the one you under- and top-stitched), is simply the a self-fabric pocketing. It's confusing in terms of terminology because the facing and pocket bag pieces are combined to simplify that pattern, but typically the facing is sewn to the inside pocket piece (separate pocketing material) to cover the pocket opening.
I have a similar pattern. I achieved the pockets because of your tutorial! But the I'm have trouble with the pants. Each pantleg is two pieces. The edges/crotch doesn't match up, even on the pattern pieces so I know I cut it right. Please help.
Do you have a beginning and finishing tutorial video for this pattern pants so I can see how you finish it. I would like to buy the pattern and follow you finish thanks.
These spots on the fabric drive me nuts. All the fabric looks the same I have a hard time imaging what is where, Can you do another one with like red for the front pants part and blue for the front lining, and then white for the actual pocket part, then we could see which part gets sewn where and how it goes together. Please that would help us so much more. We do want to follow the video, and make a nice garment with these pockets in it.Thanks
Yea, can you pleeeaaase do that? So it doesn't get so confusing to watch: The colors will pinpoint what is what, and will definitely make it easier to understand :))) I love your work!!❤
Nit-picky little tip for the beginners who are still learning basic terms, etc. . . There are few times when she mentions a "regular width" or the "widest width" stitch. Don't get confused by that little misnomer. She's actually talking about the *length* of the stitch. With the straight stitch used for almost all of normal construction in woven materials, the machine stitch width is technically zero.
