"In-depth Review" - you ain't kidding! This review was so impressive, especially the comparisons with the 5540 which is still on sale - at least here in the UK anyway. Thanks for the review, you really cover everything.
Cheers ilunghi, I rather not try cover what you can read off the website but I know its good to just give brief mention what there is. I was lucky to have a 5540 around at the same time to give the comparison and it's good to see what Dell has done with this year refresh and looks like they did massive amount of changes between the 5550 and 5540.
@@BsianTech I just ordered 5570. Hope it will arrive within 3 weeks. Thanks to you for all your valuable review. That's help a lot for professionals like me to make a purchase decision. There are several gaming PC review channels in Internet but for Precision and Latitude your channel is the best.
Fantastic to hear Tamojit Chatterjee you were able to make a decision =). Thank you very much for your kind words as it really is very heartwarming to hear since it was one of my main reason for creating this RUclips channel since I was pretty annoy myself I couldn't find the useful non-spec sheet information for what a professional and non-gamers look for in a device on the RUclips platform. It was a client of mine that encourage me to rather sit and complain, do something since you already doing it yourself why not share my experience, so hear I am. I have found my viewers have push me to learn more which has been one fantastic journey.
@@BsianTech carry on brother... i wish you all the best... ur channel will definitely grow faster... thanks a lot for your kind reply.. i will share with u my precision once i get it.. God bless 🙏 thanks a ton
Glad it was helpful to assist your decision. I suspect there is something even more hidden awesomeness comparing this 5550 over the XPS 15 9500 but waiting for Dell to respond.
If there is anyone who works for a quality PC manufacturer here is what the market needs to provide - 17" 4k matte screen in a 15" form factor (with 16:10 screen ratio), centered keyboard with reasonable track pad, reasonably thin with reasonable weight and power brick, a range of ports, reasonable pricing when upgrading components (don't gig us on the ram, etc), Wow this is too simple
The machine has potential if it works. I purchased one in April '21 and have had major issues with it since day one. The display drivers rainbow glitched and the computer would split second freeze constantly since day 1 of ownership. After running full system diagnostics, I discovered 1 DIMM module was bad and received a new module quickly from Dell. One month later, the computer was glitching and blue screening again. It was determined that the motherboard was bad. It was replaced and the computer was running smoothly until 1 week ago, when the battery stopped taking any charge. I have never had this many issues with any machine I have built or owned.
This laptop is probably one of the worst laptops Dell has made. Typing this on this piece of shit that's currently blowing like insane while just having a web browser opened.
Hi, helpful video that influenced my decision to purchase this model for work. It is an excellent laptop all around, except for one thing: the integrated webcam. It is interesting that no reviews, not even yours, talk about the webcam. Even the Dell specs don't list it in any way other than "IR cam." I do quite a bit of videoconferencing these days, so it's disappointing to appear digitized/posterized. I think it may perform better in steady artificial office light, but it does not do well with the variable natural light of home. Hopefully Dell will upgrade this feature to be at the par of all the other components in the future. Otherwise, I'm very happy with this machine so far.
Thanks for your feedback and taking the time to comment M Stiles, you are right I didn't cover webcam much on this review but I started to record a sample quality of video and audio of the laptop built-in webcams in my later review videos of 2020. I am so glad I am able to give you some good information to give you an inform decision =).
let's be honest, do you really think anyone who buys the precision line buys it for the camera? I don't know if you do know this but there are much much more cheaper alternatives if your primary concern is for camera and other gizmos on the computer.
Thank you very much, I just received the new Precision 5560, the review will be similar but I can give you quick preview the performance on the new 5560 is way better, if you can afford the extra price I can 200% recommend it over the Precision 5550.
Hi - glad to hear you are expecting to receive the 7550. I may just break down and deal with the weight (unit + power adapter a little over 8 pounds). Do you have an expected delivery date?
Great review, as usual☺️. Did the unit come with two ssds? Some XPS reviewers mentioned that if the second ssd slot doesn't come with a screw and that it skips on the thermal pad as well. Is that the case with the 5550 as well? Do you think the t1000 would be suitable for video editing the DaVinci Resolve 16? Where I live, both 5550 and the 5750 are available though the XPS 13 and 15 10th gen versions are yet to be released.
If you don't need 4k res. I recommend the 5750 with full hd screen, the rtx3000 gpu, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd. My understanding is dell can discount as much as 15% - 20% off the order price they show
Cheers Megan J, my review unit didn't come with two SSD only one SSD which you should have seen in the Internal section of the video. I can confirm Dell didn't include a second screw to hold in a second SSD if it wasn't preconfigured with two SSD. I didn't remove the heat sink to check the thermal paste/pad on laptops usually. If I was to push the laptop more then I would and more than likely get better results applying better application or thermal substance but I would rather test out the computer straight out of factory to give what most users experience should be. The T1000 is very capable of video editing but I think you might be better off saving your money and go with the XPS range with the Geforce. The money you save would be better off put into a docking port and nice large monitor to connect for video editing at home/office. As for resolution for screen if you can afford the 4K screen go with that over the FHD, I have found it's much nicer for the application workspace to have higher res so you don't have to scroll as much and have better window panel management and viewing experience in the editing software in my opinion.
@@BsianTech I checked with Dell on the pricing of XPS 17 and Precision 5750. As weird as it may be, the XPS 17 is priced higher than Precision 5750! It's still not cheap but for some reason, Dell is selling the XPS line higher than Precision.
@@Powershoot10 Earlier in the dell july sale they had the xps 17 full hd, 16gb ram, 512 hd for $1950 which was 17% off ($410 off the order price of 2350) . On this deal they would also allow switching to the 4k screen for an extra $400. If the deal is not still specifically avail my understanding is you can get a sales person to get you a 17% +/- discount on exactly what you need.
The above deal was for the 10875 processor and the rtx2060 gpu. I looked at the sale now (on business side) and they show a lessor discount of about $200 on the same model with the lower 10750 processor for $1950. Determining what the best they can offer is a little muddy. I think the best approach is to use their basic configuration prices (not the july sale prices) and shoot for a 17% or better discount (which may in some cases may be offered in the july sale listings).
Hi, thank you for the great review. Do you have any reocmmendations to help chosing betyeen the i9-10885, xeon w-10855m and the i7 10875 concerning mainly heating and battery life ? Another question, i'm checking dell Switzerland shop, is the fhd+ matte version ? Thank you
Hi Gab Gab, this all depends on budget and which is your most important feature in order, performance/battery life/temperature. The FHD screen is matte.
@@gabgab913 dont know if you made the jump but battery life is same no matter what. Xeons will handle a lot of heat just fine (critical i think is at 100C for the Xeons on these)
Hey great video i'm super curious though... there was another video where you compared the 5550 to the 7550 and noted that the 5550 was having trouble holding base clock under load while the 7550 was chugging along just fine. From my experience trading up laptops in college I was wondering if you did some thermal mods if the 5550 could then keep up. I had an XPS 13 9370 at one point that was also struggling but then I changed out the thermal paste for IC Graphite and applied Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8's to bridge the heatsink and the bottom metal panel (I had a case on to prevent the heat from getting to me while on my lap). Anyway just an interesting thought that would be super awesome if you did a video applying those mods and seeing what would happen as I doubt i'm the only one that would be much more interested in the 5550 if it could handle extended workloads as well as the 7550!
Thanks Jackson, I understand what you are referring to in regards to reapplying or changing different thermal transfer compound for the cpu, gpu and maybe the northbridge. I have thought about this myself as one of my older videos regarding the 7740, a viewer of mine did only just reapplied the thermal paste on the CPU to the heatsink, and got very favorable improved results. Since then that has been on my mind in regards to doing it to some of the laptops I test but my channel isn't really about modding and 95% of the people who watch my videos would purchase the laptops and will keep it stock. I'm not saying it's not worth wild to do it and personally I believe there should be a little improvement in performance but I like to try fix it from the root. I have reached out to a Dell thermal engineer and like to have a chat with them on their thoughts in regards to the results we see and also what they were expected in the design phase as well as their thoughts on self mod thermal improving (as you are curious about). Maybe a good firmware update could improve things if they find things. I'm awaiting on their reply but I suspect they are on leave at the time of writing this. Secondly the precision units I have are on loan from Dell so I don't want to change the computer physically. Sorry I'm unable to produce any real results for your question atm.
the issue is heat dissipation. I have now done repasted 3 5520s and my temps have dropped by 15-20C (mind you these are Xeons and they were running at around 100C on full load which was pretty much regular). Just a heads up. But besides thermal compound, the spacing in the enclosure makes a difference I believe. The 55xx series have for all practical purposes no airflow within the enclosure except the one generated by the fans. This was evident with swollen batteries that were going bad in the 5520s which made the internal temps like a ferno (good thing these were Xeons). The batteries made the temps jump by about 30C in the 5520s
Thanks for the crack-open vid. Have one of these at work that I needed to clone to, had to pull the NVMe card and was the first ultra I have had to open (When I was a tech, there were no ultras) didn't want to break anything, so having this was great. Warning, the metal is sharp enough to slice open your finger. Don't ask.
Thanks for the feedback Lance, aye opening the Precision 5550 is careful one I had to quickly flick through the tech service manual on how to open it so I didn't damage it as well as it was very tightly sealed up initially. I lucky didn't have any accident the number of times I open it up but agree the metal edges are thin enough to slice you if not careful.
Just FYI to those that have the precision lines and have to deal with high temps on the die (speed-throttle kicking in, especially from non-windows machines). Repaste your GPU and CPU with thermal paste again. The part that irks me is that you void your warranty as you have to remove that tamper-proof screw but Dell doesn't apply good paste.
I have notice this in some of the latitudes too beside the precision line. When it happens with bad fan noise and heat and big throttling usually end up warranty call and on-site tech will usually do a better job on the thermal paste. Fingers cross they do a better job on the Precision 5560. We will see in two weeks when 5760 schedule to arrive and 5560 start of aug eta.
Great review. Thank you bringing the scale for weight check. I wish you 100k subscribers within this year. About this machine, the chassis and display look strikingly similar to the new XPS.
Thanks very much mate, each configuration usually has different weights especially the type of battery installed. Thank you I wish myself but I have set up a goal of 5k =) slowly do it up. The Precision 5xxx usually are base off the XPS or could be the other way around =).
The Precision 5550 can be configured with the Nivida Quadros but they were also can be sold with just Integrated graphics only and being a i5 a lower spec model Precision 5550 would likely not have the discrete graphics configured in the initial built of that unit.
Hello BsianDad, yesterday I received this laptop. Did you notice, when you hold it in one hand the screen starts opening and closing repeatedly as you walk? Might it be only occurring to my laptop as a manufacture error or is it also happening to yours?
Hi Luis Toro, you are right I just tried this myself, carrying the hinge side downwards, the one I got also does open and close repeatedly as you move. Really interesting because now I think about it, I carry most laptops hinge side upwards when I am walking around just habit from all the different laptops I carry around I like the fatter end of the laptop closer to my elbow since there more room in the bend of the arm naturally as you walk.
@@BsianTech I just saw it. Thank you for your review it really helps someone like me before investing that amount. Waiting for.your indepth review of 7550.
There is none - a way better solution appears to be the origin pc model nt-16 laptop. This company was started about 10 years ago by guys that left dell. Only problem is you have to pay a 15% restocking fee if you want to return the pc during your 30 day trial period. It also has a number pad (which is actually the reason I have been holding off as I prefer a centered keyboard). The size of the track pad should also be much better
oh by the way origin also offers a 15 inch model (the nt-16 is actually 16 inches) with a quadro card if you need that. If the dell offered 4k matte I would already own one.
BaianDad I'm trying to buy this workstation but I want to upgrade the 8gb ram later to 32gb , can you tell me which are the OEM 16gb ram cards that come with this model? so I can get the same, or if you have any suggestion about another ram cards for this machine I'd be happy to hear it from you. Keep rocking with your videos! lml
Hi Lisandro Chacin, sorry for getting back to you slowly just had to find the time to open this one up again. The RAM sticks for 16GB it came with was SAMSUNG 16GB 2Rx8 PC4 3200. Hope that helps you. Cheers for the support ==)
In truth I would have love if they kept the thickness like the 5540 and give us the USB-A and HDMI port back in exchange of the 1 or 2 of the USB-C ports. Guess they trying to push us to the future now. I can also understand them moving to USB-C for the professionals push massive quick data for external devices.

That would be quite a beast of a machine Jesse James Headrick, if one of these come across my table I will for sure create a benchmark and temperature video, it would be very interesting for sure.
@@BsianTech issue is temp. In the 55xx chasis, it just hits 90 very easily (evey after repasting). So, any time any serious processing is done, it will approach there. The good thing is, Xeons can take it though it will clock down a bit.
Or 3551 Precision ? no solid work, no video editing, no gaming... only multitasking, web browsing, youtube, 2 finance trading program that need high CPU, Multicore, SSD, high RAM and 128 bit graphics card..
Go with the Precision 5550, the reason for that is that from my understanding finance trading programs are usually burst speed applications and won't run the CPU insanely intensively over long period of time at high load plus graphic chip running at max. So you won't encounter the throttling problem nor will it impact you very much. Trading programs mostly rendering 2D, even integrated graphics these days will be able to handle the task but I could be wrong, happy for someone corrects me. I think the larger 16:10 screen going to be nicer for web browsing, youtube and the trading program with more screen display real estate. I hope that helps.

Just because the 5550 and the 5750 only offer the 4k screen option as touch glossy screen I was ready to go for the 7750 giving up a little portability to get the 4k matte screen until I found out the power brick is 4" x 8" and weighs over 1.5 pounds which just really pissed me off cause the combo of the unit and the power brick will be like carrying around a hummer
The power adapter on the Precision 7xxx do weigh a bit and I hope they bundle the power adapter from the 5550 into the 7550, we will see when it arrives soon.
@@BsianTech I am still using my samsung series 7 (np700) 17 inch laptop that is 7 years old and way ahead of its time. Only 1 inch thick, 6 pounds, very reasonable power brick size, i7 quad core processor, dedicated graphics, matte screen with the great samsung quality (never have had one problem). To bad samsung dropped the 17 inch line and to some degree got out of the PC market. My guess is they had too much quality to compete against companies like dell, etc. - All I want now is a computer to replace my 7 year old pc that has the same good features. Whenever someone makes something good it never sticks around - that would make too much sense.
Quick question I received my item and have one issue. I am wondering if you have the same issue does your hinge open up by itself when held vertically?
Hi Bumkyu Kim, yes another viewer who has the 5550 had the same issue and I tested on the unit I had and yes it does as well when you hold it vertically with holding it via the hinge side.
Thank you for a good review. I got my 5550 and it got the trackpad issue. Will get it repaired or palmrest replaced. Your trackpad is not loose? I think the issue you describe regarding the trackpad being too large, may depend on ones writing style and size of hands. Looking very much forward to the display review :)
Thanks very much Janik Frithioff and I really hope it was useful for you. Sorry to hear about your Precision 5550, the Precision 5550 unit I received didn't have the trackpad issue you mention in my other video that is plaguing the new XPS. I also think it could be the way I type as I do push keyboards/laptops very far back till my elbow rests on the table (just from experience of wrist pains) which could be unusual position. Which display did you manage to get in your Precision 5550? The one I have is a FHD Non-touch Matte screen.
Can not believe they are still sending out units with the defective track pads. Dell is all talk and no action. They would rather wait and fix it later.
@@matthewedwards4064 yeah - it really puzzles me too. I called Dell and actually they could track down my plamrest part and inform is was made on 9th of may. Palmrests made after 12th of June are said to be without issues. Their "all units shipped in june is without issues" statement isn't quite true. At least Dell is acknowledging the issue and offer solutions to their customers. I have been offered on-site replacement of palmrest or swap to a new precision 5550. Right now, the palmrest part is not in stock, so I am going to wait until Thursday to see if it becomes available (for on-site replacement) - otherwise I will ask for a new one. Other than the issue with the trackpad - the laptop is brilliant!
@@janikdk84 Hi Janik, If you do not need 4k then the fullhd on the 15" 5550 appears to be a great option. I need 4k as I do 3D modeling as well as cad design and detailing. Something that has just now occurred in the history of computers development is with high res screens (say around 200 - 250 dpi) we are able to see our detail designs at full scale on the screen with proper line weights (what you see is what you get). With the common line weights used in industry since the beginning of mankind being .1mm, .2mm, .3mm, .4mm ... having the .1mm +/- pixel density now available finally works for WYSIWYG. I doubt anyone in the computer manufacturing or software development fields yet realizes this but it will be come common knowledge in the years to come. Its actually crazy that many firms still use black backrounds (virtually xray mode) and colors to represent line weights and attempt to visualize how the detail they are designing will print.
Xeons models are harder to get, and with COVID-19 it's making extra difficult in stock wise is more than likely why it isn't advertised yet, I had to double check the spec sheet if i9 and Xeon was still available for the 5550 which it is. If I ever get a Xeon model ordered in I will for sure review it to see how it performs.
I bought the 5550 and loaded it up. i9 Processor, Class 50 SSD, and 64 GB of RAM, Quadro T2000 GPU. I then paired that up with two 49" 5k curved monitors. Not here to boast. I can only get the native resolution 5120 x 1440 out of one monitor (plugged into the WD19DC dock). The second monitor will only go to 1920x1280 unless I bypass the dock and plug that second monitor into the laptop directly. In checking, the displays are running off of the integrated laptop Intel GPU not the NVIDIA T2000. I can't seem to force the use of the T2000. Thinking I need a stronger docking station and a way to actually run off of the T2000. Looking for input.
Hi Trevor, first off if you haven't already installed the NVidia drivers for the laptop already please install it (download from official Nvidia website), once you have installed it there will be a software called Nvidia Control Panel in the system tray (near the date and clock). If you open that, on the left window under 3D Settings there will be a sub heading called "Manage 3D settings" in there on the right window under the Global Settings tab you can change the "preferred graphics processor" to the High-Performance Nivida processor that will force the laptop to run off the T2000 GPU in your case. Hope this will help.
Well the term mobile workstation is just that, a computer designed for work or in a work environment but you can move it around. These days the term "mobile workstations" are more reserved for the larger and/or powerful range or variants of laptops.
Just got one of these at work, and I right off the bat there's a HUGE problem, for me anyway, with the trackpad....the corners of the trackpad are NOT active! Every Dell laptop I've owned prior to this one, I could press my finger on the lower left corner to left click, or press my finger on the lower right corner to right click....on the 5550, those corners are dead "by design", according to Dell's knowledge base. Now I have to press 3 or 4 times trying to find an active part of the middle of the trackpad to get a mouse click to work. Dell says this is by design to reduce errant touches of the trackpad while typing, but I'm calling BS. Trackpad sensitivity can be adjusted to deal with errant touches....I WANT MY TRACKPAD CORNERS TO WORK!!!! Very frustrated.
Hi Amber Sahni, not much to compare the Precision 5550 and the XPS 15 9500 since they virtually the same just with different discrete graphics and a few available processor (along with RAM) configurations for the Precision 5550. Benchmarks will be different but overall touch and feel should be the same nearly. As for MBP comparison if I get another 16 MBP in time I might do comparison.
Hi Serhiy, unfortunetely this unit has been returned back to Dell but I wouldn't mind learning how to do the compile test if you like to teach how to do it, I can do this for future laptops or when I get the next Precision 5550 in.
The clickpad looks pretty large on this one also, you did not zoom in on the clickpad and even seem to be avoiding doing that when you showed the keypad. Why is that? This clickpad looks as big as the previous one.
Hi Jatin C, sorry my bad for forgotting to do a top view of comparison of the 5550 vs 5540 trackpad, at 12:10 (ruclips.net/video/neFDI9cEc7U/видео.html) hopefully you see a little bit better view difference. The 5550 is much larger than the 5540 trackpad, it is two keys larger to give you some portion size.
GPU (T2000) is always using some power (probably appr. 10-15W) ... even when disabled ... So, your "19 hours battery-life" in Dell's extreme power-plan ... well, this is BOGUS !! (= advertizing & misinformation) With 84W battery, on full - this Laptop, will NOT reach more than MAX 6 hours!! (in ANY power-plan etc). Sad, that "reviews" such as this, are SO intentionally misleading /cheating the buyer to select & buy Dell !!!

ECC RAM is error correcting code which does funky stuff to fix basic level data errors so it a lot less chance of data corruption or system crashes. Hope that helps.
Hello thank you for your honest review on OVER-SIZED TrackPad... This trackpad is *copied shamelessly from Apple* for the people who are INDEX FINGER typists & for the people who are from "personal " Entertainment industry, and Professional RUclips & Movie watchers, Professional Music Listeners (not singers), Professional Artists (those who are always with opinion on others' works) who use less typing but waste their time on keep scratching on trackpad most of the time .. Dell also said they *copied the oversize TrackPad Shamelessly from Apple* is to sell their upcoming new external keyboard *(who accidentally purchased this Laptop)* for the people who use the Laptop actually for typing purposes and intellectual works...
Thanks for the feedback Дж Б Рокенсь, I didn't know the trackpad issues nor the news, unfortunately I lot of time I don't have time to hearing or reading the news even on the marketing material. So usually I just test a product as I see them as they come across my desk so it is interesting to hear about the trackpad design. @BsianDad Did you happen to state three usb-c thunderbolt ports? These only ship with two. The usb-c port on the right does not support thunderbolt. Typical weird PC hardware decision. Like my HP workstation that has usb-c ports...none of which are thunderbolt. Always need to be on the lookout for these cost-cutting measures. Has to do with the controller chip they're using.
I am absolutely sorry about that and you are right, been very late nights. The Precision 5550 the two USB-C on the left side are thunderbolt and the USB-C on the right side is only USB 3.1 gen 2 (non-thunderbolt) though you can charge the laptop using any of the three USB-C ports.
PAID, TO PROMOTE dell's laptop-series !!! INTENTIONALLY leaves out facts: - fx. that the GPU (nvidia T2000) ALWAYS uses quite a lot of power & the GPU/laptop gets quite hot - even when the GPU is 100% disabled !!! If not start calling up Dell for them to start running through the support for it because if it is rebooting before Windows 95% of time its hardware or settings issue.
Really shamed with this company which always follow Macbook. This laptop is thick enough, not ultraportable and costs much, but doesnt have USB type A, full HDMI port. Business man or content creator really need those ports to connect SSD, mouse or peripheral. 😢😢
I have to agree with you mineinspiron, I would have very happily seen this laptop keep it's thickness as previously just to keep the HDMI and USB-A port back. Though I understand the move to USB-C since a lot of newer hardware are coming out as USB-C and the bandwidth gains it provides specially to a machine aimed at crunching a lot of numbers and data.
He is awesome.
This is the only channel available for good reviews of Precision. Thank you Bro
Thanks Tamojit Chatterjee, I am still waiting for the Precision 5550 bigger brothers the 7 series to arrive.
Thank you very much for your kind words as it really is very heartwarming to hear since it was one of my main reason for creating this RUclips channel since I was pretty annoy myself I couldn't find the useful non-spec sheet information for what a professional and non-gamers look for in a device on the RUclips platform. ok, ordering one. Thanks for one of the only reviews on my google search.
A very good job there Bsian. Indeed it was an in-depth review.
I don't know if you do know this but there are much much more cheaper alternatives if your primary concern is for camera and other gizmos on the computer.

hi, should i buy this laptop in late 2024 for 700USD
I saw this video then I order Precision 5570 . Thanks a lot 🙏
Really great review! Very articulate and thorough.
Is Precision 5550 good for rendering, and 3D modelling? Or gaming laptops are better?
Really amazing and in-depth review
Thank you very much, I just received the new Precision 5560, the review will be similar but I can give you quick preview the performance on the new 5560 is way better, if you can afford the extra price I can 200% recommend it over the Precision 5550.
Hi - glad to hear you are expecting to receive the 7550. I may just break down and deal with the weight (unit + power adapter a little over 8 pounds). Do you have an expected delivery date?
I meant the 7750 - Do you have a 7750 coming to you for a review?
Good review man!
@@BsianTech Hi, I'm bit afraid about battery life of the laptop for such processors, is there huge differences between those 3?
Thank you for reviewing this laptop. I was more interested in this than the XPS!

Hi bro plz tell . Does dell precision 5550 i5 10 gen have an Nvidia Quadro? Because I'm using that laptop and it cannot show me the graphics card

Great review! I am about to pull the trigger on the 5550. Where did you see a 4k non touch version of the precision 5550? Keep it up!
The only other downside to the origin is it does not have the 16:10 screen ratio
oh by the way origin also offers a 15 inch model (the nt-16 is actually 16 inches) with a quadro card if you need that. If the dell offered 4k matte I would already own one.
Also after further review the origin nt16 is ready for a refresh and does not appear to offer the 4k option, but the 15" model and 17" models do
by the way if money is no object and you want a 15 inch laptop (I need a 17 inch for modeling, etc) then the Asus Studiobook pro x is really nice.

The guys at dell are brilliant. They provided a dongle so you can connect your mouse and printer. Genius. I am curious who needs 4 USB C -TB ports?
In truth I would have love if they kept the thickness like the 5540 and give us the USB-A and HDMI port back in exchange of the 1 or 2 of the USB-C ports. Guess they trying to push us to the future now. I can also understand them moving to USB-C for the professionals push massive quick data for external devices.

@@BsianTech issue is temp. In the 55xx chasis, it just hits 90 very easily (evey after repasting). So, any time any serious processing is done, it will approach there. The good thing is, Xeons can take it though it will clock down a bit.
Dear BsianDad, according to you, for all day work, for high stable performance, do you prefer 5550 or 7550 precision series ?

Quick question
I received my item and have one issue. I am wondering if you have the same issue
does your hinge open up by itself when held vertically?

Palmrests made after 12th of June are said to be without issues. Their "all units shipped in june is without issues" statement isn't quite true.
At least Dell is acknowledging the issue and offer solutions to their customers. I have been offered on-site replacement of palmrest or swap to a new precision 5550.

Also, would like to see a Xeon model reviewed. But here in the U.S. you can't even order a Xeon as of yet.
@BsianDad, best place to get a deal on the 5550?

What is the use of mobile work station..?
Hello, can you please compare precision 5550 with XPS 9500.how it stands with XPS and MacBook pro?
Hi Amber Sahni, not much to compare the Precision 5550 and the XPS 15 9500 since they virtually the same just with different discrete graphics and a few available processor (along with RAM) configurations for the Precision 5550. Benchmarks will be different but overall touch and feel should be the same nearly. As for MBP comparison if I get another 16 MBP in time I might do comparison.
@@BsianTech thanks, so will precision 5550 be the good choice for video editing and some gaming?
Does it look good in hand, nice and compact?
Great video, it would be nice ti see compile time test on it for programming purposes. I can help you with android studio tests.
Hi Serhiy, unfortunetely this unit has been returned back to Dell but I wouldn't mind learning how to do the compile test if you like to teach how to do it, I can do this for future laptops or when I get the next Precision 5550 in.
BsianDad Cool, I wrote you message to instagram, we can continue talk there
The clickpad looks pretty large on this one also, you did not zoom in on the clickpad and even seem to be avoiding doing that when you showed the keypad.
(= advertizing & misinformation)
With 84W battery, on full - this Laptop, will NOT reach more than MAX 6 hours!! (in ANY power-plan etc).
Sad, that "reviews" such as this, are SO intentionally misleading /cheating the buyer to select & buy Dell !!!
a sad way, to earn money !!!
- a sad way, to undermine the reputation of both RUclips & genuine/honest reviewers !!!
9:25 that's some crazy stuff!
I bought precision 5550 i5 base model.
Can you review with i5 model too
I5 version of Dell precision 5550 is really bad compared to I7??
I bought I5 and I am a big worried
What will you be doing with the laptop Bumkyu Kim?
@@BsianTech Mostly for the work( Microoffice, Autocad, modeling software)
Sometimes wanna play game such as Diablo4, Starcraft2, and League of Legend.
@@bumkyukim9950 hello my friend Kim,im Jose nice to meet you.
Excuse me i would like to ask you about your recent experience woth your Dell Workstation i5 with modeling? Im a mechanical engineering and im looking for the proper laptop to 3D modeling with SolidWorks and AutoCad.
Can you tell me if yout Dell goes Smooth with your modeling and what specs you got on your Dell I5? Please i will be very thankful to you :)
Can the RAM be upgraded after purchase?
Hi Alex Gomez, yes you can add more RAM after purchase if you configured it with less than 64GB initially, if so there should be two RAM slots free for you to add more RAM.
@@BsianTech Thanks! Would you recommend the following RAM [DDR4 Memory - DDR4 32 GB 2933 MHz (PC4-23466) SODIMM - Laptop RAM - VisionTek]? Two would have to be purchased in order to obtain 64 GB RAM.
In Australia you can order the xeons with 64gb ecc
I see the option for us, and would love to have a play with one that has a xeon configured in it.
Is there a CMOS battery?
There usually is and its usually under the battery
@BsianTech I was trying to find a tutorial on replacing the CMOS battery for 5550, and I have found nothing at all. Guess no one has made a video on this yet!
Im looking for the location of the GPU on this thing. If anyone knows, please tell me where to find it.
Can i ask something, what is the difference non ecc ram vs ecc ram, tq
ECC RAM is error correcting code which does funky stuff to fix basic level data errors so it a lot less chance of data corruption or system crashes. Hope that helps.
@@BsianTech thank you so much 😊
Hello thank you for your honest review on OVER-SIZED TrackPad...
Hey I like this person
Thanks for the feedback Дж Б Рокенсь, I didn't know the trackpad issues nor the news, unfortunately I lot of time I don't have time to hearing or reading the news even on the marketing material. So usually I just test a product as I see them as they come across my desk so it is interesting to hear about the trackpad design. I am hoping the Precision 7550 trackpad doesn't experience the issue.
@@BsianTech the Precision 7550 has the same track pad and keyboard. IT has a wider palm rest area though I doubt it would make a difference. Hope you can test that in your review! ☺️
INTENTIONALLY leaves out facts:
- fx. that the GPU (nvidia T2000) ALWAYS uses quite a lot of power & the GPU/laptop gets quite hot - even when the GPU is 100% disabled !!! (in device-manager).
=> simple calculation: Biggest Battery is 84W ... and with GPU using appr. 10-15W (IDLE/disabled), then incl. screen+CPU+circuitry .. you will Maximum get appr. 6 hours !!!!
...
And, He claims "up-to 19 hours" !!!
PURE ADVERTIZING !!!
(FACTOR 3 !!! ... 6 hours I.R.L., vs. 19 hours Claimed/Advertized !!!)
Good work brother but you need to improve your voice audio ☺️brotherly tip
Thanks Hamza Ayaz for the feedback, yes the audio has been something I'm still working on. I have finally identify the problems and have been working on resolving them. Today I finally saved enough to purchase some gear that might resolve the audio issues that has been haunting me.
@@BsianTech I think mainly, you just don't speak loud enough, i could be wrong though
By the way I was really saddened to hear that Nick Cordero passed away. He and his wife Amanda (and son Elvis) really struck me as very sweet and genuine.
Will this laptop last me until 2028 if I buy it now?
sir i'm getting some suggestion from you please. if you tell me.
What time of suggestions?

The issue with trackpad while typing is baffling. Can anyone share their experience with large trackpads on MacBook..
Never had 1 issue of that nature
Any chance you could install Linux and see if S3 sleep is functional?
Great video....but that mic has got to go. lol
Thanks CommonCentsRob, I worked out the issue and have improved the audio these days, looking to improve it more as it's been a big issue for me.
This laptop degrades like milk.
- 1 hour battery life in every mode
- Hot like an oven
- Performance goes south when hest seeps in
Awesome
So are you paid for Dell to do this review? Are you a Dell influencer? Want to see if this review was tainted in anyway by that. Thanks
Hi Jatin C, I am not paid by Dell to do any reviews and I perform unbiased opinions, I do review other manufactures as well like Lenovo and HP, atm you see a lot of Dell products because I get a lot of Dell products at work plus currently at the time of writing this comment Lenovo and HP had major delays in shipping their products to Australia were I am located where as somehow Dell hasn't been having shipping delays where I am at.
@@BsianTech Great to know, thanks
never understood the point of large trackpads, and y people like macbook trackpads so much, the previous gen dell xps trackpad was my favourite, it had such a good click and was a decent size. Srsly y tf do u guys like larger trackpads??
This computer keeps rebooting itself.
At what stage does the computer keeps rebooting? On the Dell logo, start up of Windows or just randomly in Windows?
@@BsianTech Both. It already restarted once while I was typing this response. Such an expensive computer., sigh...
@@wallacelee5818 If it is rebooting before Windows I would be looking at hardware issues, first of course perform the Dell Diagnostic to do this start up the computer while you see the Dell logo press F12 until it gets to temp boot menu and select Dell Diagnostics let it run to see any issues. If not start calling up Dell for them to start running through the support for it because if it is rebooting before Windows 95% of time its hardware or settings issue.
Wow... design over functionality there on the power key placement. That’d be enough to drive me bananas. 🍌
You need a better mic or fix your audio. Sound is too low.
The track pad seriously looks comical! Completely out of touch with reality.
Audio quality of this video is bad, just fyi
no ethernet cable port 👀 sad and as a network Engineer i dont wanna use adapter
I mention this directly to Dell that ethernet is very needed for business laptops especially professional ones.
*BsianDad* Awesome vid. If you had One wish. what Would it be? let's build each other up xd
My wish would have been kept the thickness the same as the Precision 5540 to have a USB-A and HDMI port back into the Precision 5550.
Ummm what accent is that??? Am I drunk or what but it sounds like you just created you own accent.
Hi Simon, I'm Australian. Queensland part of Australia is where my accent is from.
