The first time I knew about Hot In the Shade was seeing it in the shop. I miss the days when you walked into record shops before the internet, when sometimes the first time you knew about a new release was seeing it in the shop. I never bothered getting the KISS album that day I saw it, cos I thought it would be like Crazy Nights and I'd moved into real and underground metal at that point.
This was the first concert I ever attended. Made me a fan for life
Your first review of this album was epic. Had me in tears I was laughing so much 😂
Thanks for your kind words about Eric🤘 so true.i miss that Dude
"Didn't even go wood" LMAO
I’m with you I love Boomerang too Eric’s drumming makes that song
Yeah I saw that tour twice and when I seen it Eric did the drum solo. The song list on that tour was completely rockin. It was good to hear them bring back a lot of the songs like I want you. It was cool how the Sphinx fell apart and then the KISS logo Rose to the occasion.
Fortress Studio 5850 Hollywood Blvd. Got to know them pretty well, Eric Carr by far the sweetest of them all, Tommy Thayer was floating around back then... I introduced Gene to My Hair Stylist in which KISS kept on retainer for $2500 a week. Gene and Paul's Wigs never looked bigger or better...
And yes, short albums rule!
The mega blockbuster album from KISS …. Hot in the Shade. All killer no filler hahahaha. I don’t think I have played this one since 1989-90
Ugh. Not my Kiss. Great review though.
i bought this craptastic record the day it came out and couldn’t believe what i was hearing. however, this was the 1st KISS tour i was old enough to go to and holy cow it was a KILLER show, topped only by being able to see the original lineup 6 years later. there’s maybe 3 or 4 songs i like, the rest are complete tripe.
you rule Dr. Fukk! 🤘🏼
I enjoyed a few of the tracks at that moment in time.
Rise to it (Video was incredible), Hide your heart, forever , Lil Caesar and yes even Silver Spoon. Hey I still pull this album
out for a rotation on the turntable but it’s always at the bottom of the stack
Hate this album!! (The only songs I can stomach are Forever and Rise To It)
Absolutely LOVED the tour!!
🤟😝
Hot In The Shade is yet ANOTHER Kiss studio effort that I have come to enjoy more and more with each listen that I give to it! Ironically, I listened to the album in its entirety on my iPod just yesterday as I took a stroll within my neighborhood; I didn't skip a single track! Forever is my second-favorite Kiss ballad and I showcase it occasionally during public karaoke rounds.
I know a lot point towards Crazy Nights as the worse Kiss album. But I’m going with Hot In The Shade. Lazy effort! Not one single Kiss member wrote a song by themselves. Each song had a co-write. I also heard the band had a smaller budget so they used quite a few demos and rushed out a bloated 15 song album. Even with the extra tracks it has fewer quality songs than Crazy Nights IMO
I miss those days as well brother
I agree Crazy Nights is better -marginally. I hate the album cover, the gang vocals on all the songs, lack of decent riffs. Only 4 maybe 5 songs are tolerable. Crazy Nights is cheesy as hell but it’s got 5-6 songs that are okay
Such a underrated album but its not that bad crazy nights was overrated my favourite songs from Hot in the shade 1.Little Caesar 2.Boomerang. 3.Forever. 4.Betrayed. 5.Rise to It. 6.Love's a slap in the face. 7.Hide your Heart. 8.Somewhere between Heaven and Hell. 9.The Street giveth and the street taketh away. 10.Prisoner of Love. 11.King of Hearts. 12.Cadillac Dreams. 13.Silver Spoons. 14.You love me to Hate you. 15 Read my Body. Like I said a very underrated album from KISS
Yes,its a long album
Rise to It
Slap in the Face
Forever ( but burn out on it)
Cadillac Dream
Are the ones I can listen
Awesome tour and got to see it from the second row center stage. The album was good for a few listens and that was it.
it's literally a collection of crappy demos strung together with no rhyme or reason, a few decent tracks but mostly sucky. Note: Around that time, especially during the early nineties as well, they really tried to get going with the CD format by adding a bunch of extra fluff, meaning long albums. I mean, we're talking about the era that Nine Inch Nails had "singles" that lasted 60 minutes with how many remixes there were! I mean No Prayer For the Dying (1990) was 43:42 Fear of the Dark (1992) 57:58, nuff said!
Brutally honest, and funny!
I had tickets for the Wheeling WV show on this tour but Paul Stanley got injured the previous night so Kiss cancelled. That would have been my first Kiss show but finally saw them for the first time on the '96 reunion tour which was awesome.
What a damn SHAME we couldn't hear any of that complete elephant shit. Breaks my heart. FOR ONCE... I HAVE TO SAY... W RUclips for THAT‼️‼️‼️🤣🤣🤣🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I always liked King of Hearts. You are right, too many songs. You Love Me To Hate You is the worst.
My least favorite Kiss album, by far. Way too much filler on this.
I remember finding a new copy of this beside the road back in '89. Someone just chucked it out their window. I just dropped it back on the ground after I saw who it was.
Lols, I would have done the same!
I'm in agreement, I think Boomerang is the best song on HITS.. and no, not just because of My Australian bias!
I think really the main thing Hot In The Shade has over Crazy Nights is it’s produced and mixed a little better. Definitely Betrayed and Rise To It were the keepers though.
Lot of fat is right. They could have left off 5-6 songs and it would have been way better. And, yeah, I wish they had a couple more shows from that tour on kissology.
It sucks in the shade. It also sucks in the light.
Seriously in her heyday Jenna Jameson didn't suck as hard as this album.
This is my least favorite KISS record. I actually prefer Crazy Nights by a mile to this album.
I'm with you man, what were they thinking?
The original review was classic, Ralph frisbee'd the CD.
Second worst, only beaten out by Crazy Nights. A couple of decent Gene tracks and I like Little Caeser
Kiss that album good night and good riddance
do-do is right. That's a wrap lololo
It is pretty bad but I really like Hide your Heart. I said it!
It didn't go wood but it did go hard...
This album is so unbelievably bad.
Pure garbage how could record company let them put this cd out?
I dig more than 50% of HITS but it's definitely bloated af. I hate long albums too. Quality over Quantity. Best setlist they ever had though, although I'd have dropped Fits Like A Glove for Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll so Hotter Than Hell would be represented. I'd have loved to have heard Eric play that song
Hot in the shade or monster are some of the worst recordings ever by any band. AAAAWWWWWFUL! SMACKAMAGARB! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Read My Body.... more like This Song's Sh***y.
"This Song's Sh***y!
Is the message clear enough?
This Song's Sh***y!
Please turn it off cause it sucks!"
Crazy nights??? MONSTER is THE worst kiss album. And pretty much anything with the scab Tommy Thayer is detestable.
Kiss that album good night and good riddance
Kiss that album good night and good riddance
