persephone
the plight of the siren is no one believes her when she really loves you you'll never know
so nobody trusts her and everyone leaves her a promise is nothing the sailors all go
and she always thinks that she'll keep you beside her but slowly the instinct takes root in her throat
the plight of the siren is that she destroys everything in her hands like a bad puppet show
oooh
persephone persephone
persephone persephone persephone
the plight of the siren is she'll never sing without somebody claiming she's starting a war
and every word from her lips is a sign that she's hungry for blood she's a killer and moreso
the music is sweeter than honey but honey oh think what a monster she is at her core
the plight of the siren is that she's a menace, a beast like a wolf in candy store
oooh
persephone persephone
persephone persephone persephone
the plight of the siren is history wrote her as evil for men to avoid at all costs
call her the temptress the whore always luring those good boys ashore, the pure virtuous
the plight of the siren is everyone's always been scared of a powerful woman
persephone persephone

"The plight of the siren is everyone's always been scared of a powerful woman." Beautiful. Just beautiful.
oh this song sounds so homey and warm... i can't explain it but it feels like something you'd dance in your room to at 3am :)
me rn
Maybe not three am,
how did you know I dance to this at 3 am???
It reminds me of Mazzy Star's 'Fade into you' or 'Sweet Jane' in that regard, but I like this more, and I LOVE Mazzy Star.
i think this entire music video is just her messing around and having fun
This is for all the Persephones out there.
Gosh this was so beautiful. Going to be on repeat for sure.
No matter how how famous Daisy gets, she will always be underrated.
Daisy the Great is two people.
@@lulusobel8643 which is exactly how people under-rate her
Only 70k and u think she's famous 😂
I adore the moment at 1:16 where the camera zooms in on her dancing, just as the music picks up!! Such a great transition to the chorus and it really matches the rhythm of the song. Everything in this video walks the line between intense and dream-like, which is SO fascinating to watch
This song gave me such aggressive goosebumps my skin almost jumped off my body. Heart wrenching and true to its core.
this song rlly speaks to me…ppl always judge me and say im “mean” when rlly im just truthful and they say im “cocky” bc im happy and i think this song is abt getting a bad rep and being judged when meanwhile ur not like that
currently crying about how beautiful this song and music video is.
chilling. wow! so beautiful. couldn't take my eyes off the dancer and I loved the lyrics
Beautiful work! I feel it could also be titled “plight of the manic pixie dream girl”. The male gaze is lured in by the beauty and novelty of independence... until they realize that all of that this isn’t a show for them. That chaos, power, and creativity of those identifying as female... it isn’t for men’s entertainment or radical therapy. The magic of the pixies... it is for the goddamn pixies. It is still there and present even when men get scared or bored because it isn’t about them. Great song. EXCELLENT choreography. A+++
oh i LOVE this
I'm not like other girls
VOICES OF ANGELS!!!!!!!
Found this song a few days ago and i cant believe i have lived without it for 3 years.
the concept is beautiful. love the lyrics! but i guess it's more likely about Calypso than Persephone. the "siren", "temptress", "music", "sailors", "ashore" make me think about Calypso. anw i love the vibe of alll your songs and music videos
I WAS THINKING THE SAME
Agreed. Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, she was famous for being kidnapped by Hades and spending half the year in the underworld. Lovelry song, but I don't see the Persephone connection.
@Emily Hurlburt Thanks for clearing it up! I looked it up and some website told me after Persephone's abduction Demeter gave them wings so they could help her search for Persephone, and after fruitlessly flying around the world, they gave up. It makes a lot of sense now that they are calling for her throughout the whole song!
The post I read was that that when Hades took Persephone, the sirens asked for wings so they could find her (Persephone).
@@jez2466 The post I read was that that when Hades took Persephone, the sirens asked for wings so they could find her (Persephone). That's why they are still calling for her.
The performance in this video was so brazenly honest, intimate and vulnerable... What a fantastic piece of artwork. Three cheers for Daisy the Great and Matilda Sakamoto.
Damn, great indie artists are coming out of the woodwork rn.
It’s because of the pandemic too. I hear so many stories of people who started to make music in quarantine.
Beautiful as always!! The dancer did a great job wow
Wow! The lyrics!
I love the camera work of this music video. And as always, the song is amazing
Beautiful song! And beautiful video
love it! this song is so beautiful
gOD. she’s free but she’s so alone,,,,,,
this is breathtaking
Very beautiful song ☺️ Perfect melody and lyrics 💗
this is completely wonderful
I have no words to explain how much this song means to me. Thank you so much. I connect to few musicians like I connect to you guys.
this sounds like it should've been in one of the twilight soundtracks
This is my favorite song ever
Made my day. Such a great song
your pfp is epic
i cant even begin to explain how beautiful this is
I just listened to this for the first time today and I've already got it on repeat
I searched songs about Persephone & this one is the best I've come across
this took awhile to figure it out, but I think this song is about a stereotype on girls and women and how men fear them, and how society puts labels and stereotypes on certain girls saying that there evil, or they're crazy. When overall, everyone's just scared of women, and think they are power thirsty.
it also can be talking about a general girl, and how she feels to be in love, but the man she is madly in love with doesn't share the same feelings and therefore leaves her, which is a reason this song could also be called "calypso because calypso's story is a bout a girl or a enchantress who's curse is to be trapped on a island, and fall in love with the greatest heroes. So overall this song is super damn deep. Persephone
But a part i don't understand is the "Persephone" part. the story of Persephone is about the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of spring growth, who was forcefully taken by hades and forced to be his bride. perhaps daisy the great is making a comparison to her because a huge part of Persephone is that she made things grow like flowers, and she DIDNT destroy things, despite what the song suggests.
@@zararose9249 I might be wrong, but I think her handmaidens were sirens
Love your analysis btw :)
@@zararose9249 the name Persephone means 'mistress of destruction', or 'bringer of death" so the song is based on a girl like that, where she feels like everything she does turns into destruction, just like the song suggests
Man i cant wait to see you on the AJR tour!!!!!
This song is SO beautiful and powerful.
Very interesting and great video, especially when you look up Persephone.
Beautiful song ♥️
Daisy the Great back at it again with another banger 😭💖

Okay so I found this from the record player song. And is saw that this was named after persephone (this is also my name irl) so I put it one the back ground and know I keep freaking out cause I think random people are calling me-
The 7 people who disliked this had their hearts broken by a Persephone for sure.
I love your music so much
This is wayyyyyy to underrated
The repeating of Persephone Persephone as if the siren is calling for her, wishing to have what she has because Persephone has a name, she has respect, she's a goddess and the respectful fear she commands is not the disgusted fear the siren receives.
I wish I could upvote this more than once. For the first time in my many years.
Im using this for my tiktok videos, I’ll be damned if this doesn’t blow up like it deserves to
I was patient and waited about 3 minutes...... then finally the clock in the background was stuck on 4:20!
This is beautiful x
esto es hermoso
in love with this and everything you make
Ok, looks like I found a new favorite band.
This is the type of song I'll come across by pure chance after 20 years and have an existential crisis when it ends for no apparent reason.
This song is too beautiful for words. 🥺
So damn underrated. It makes me so sad that they are relatively unknown. Maybe it is just that not many people resound with this kind of music, but to me it is so good.
This made me speechless... idk how else to describe it :(
This is most lovely song and video i seen
You guys are so underrated! Great music!
Lovit!!!💜🌟🙌🌈🐲
beautiful :)
This song is so pretty! I’m thinking of doing a cover of it for a school choir thing. I’m planning to sing the low part and play the ukulele and possibly the ocarina. But I’m not sure about the ocarina because the song is just so beautiful as it is.
Reminds me of Eisley :)
💯
Whom
💗❤❤❤❤
This gives me Suzanne vibes
Edit: the song Suzanne
I love the irony, the harmony that draws you in, and the death of your perceptions when you think ya may understand the writers meanings
I think I finally realized how to apologize to someone when I saw this last night.
Thank you.
thank you for this great song, it's been a while since a song made me feel so much at a time, it's truly wonderful
