    I appreciate the hard work mate but there's a lot of ways in which this video could have been better. It seems like it was made by somebody with superficial knowledge on electronic music genres. My main issues:
    1. The lack of musical characteristics mentioned: most of the descriptions were very general and poetic, they look like they were made by ChatGPT. They do not include any information about the MUSICAL characteristics of the genre, e.g., the 303 machine was not mentioned in acid techno (the main characteristic of it!); rumble kick/bass wasn't mentioned in Hard Techno; etc.
    2. It's missing many important subgenres like Schranz, Hardgroove, Reverse bass, etc. You could even add Hardcore, as the Hard Techno in the 2020s very much resembles it.
    3. There was no mention of overlapping of genres. For example, 2/4 of the hard techno examples were hard acid techno tracks. That can be confusing for some people who may think "acid techno" and "hard techno" are mutually exclusive. It would be good to note that these genres very often overlap. For example, Sonder by Brecc is a hard industrial acid techno song.
    4. The examples were a bit off. Children is a trance song, not a tech-trance song; the Tech House tracks sound mainly house; and some others.
    Still, thank you for the video.

      I just started watching this material and You have a good point here. As someone that knows this and that about techno is hard to learn anything from poetic describtions and I think people with 0 knowledge of the genre are not particulary interested in content like that, but maybe some newbie will come across this and get hooked so I won't take that from author. After seeing first part about detroit I think would be good to show some modern examples, how it evolved.

    • @zawiej6085
      @zawiej6085 2 месяца назад +1

      Children is dream house track as definition of this genre, better old school techtrance example would be Cj Bolland - Prophet and even that wouldn't be perfect as someone could said that back then it was just techno as this 2 genres were closer to each other, tech trance and tech house sections are badly represented here.

    • @amphibia95
      @amphibia95 2 месяца назад

      Agreed. You could randomly choose one of these descriptions, assign it to random genre and they would still fit. Very generic.

    • @acident7
      @acident7 2 месяца назад

      I think this video is great for the average listener. Your first point is more for producers. Your second point is more for audiophiles and arthistorians. Your third point conflicts with the 4th point because genre can often be very subjective and you should let a dj decide where he would place a track. Let people start and chose which direction they lean towards.

    • @diarhajrizi1498
      @diarhajrizi1498 2 месяца назад +6

      @@acident7 this video is *sufficient* for the average listener, not great. My first and second points are not for niche sub-groups of professionals, they are for music fans in general. How would you expect a person to identify what acid techno is if there is no mention of the 303 sound? What if I'm a viewer who likes the booming kicks of hard techno (as opposed to other softer versions of techno) but doesn't know how to refer to it? Music knowledge is important for most people-- those who do not care about it can simply ignore the information. And, my third and fourth points are not contradictory because genres are not subjective. They are vague and man-made, yes, but they are based on some somewhat-objective and unique characteristics of the sound (bpm, drum pattern, velocity, instruments used, the presence of vocals or not, etc.). In point three, there is an overlap between three subgenres (hard, acid and industrial) but point 4 is just a trance song, with no overlaps with techno (if anything, it overlaps with house, as dream trance & dream house are interchangeable).

    I'm afraid most of your sub-genres are incorrect. Many tracks mentioned here are just Pop, Disco, Italo or simply just Trance. It is possible that you are presenting this from a USA point of view, which is completely incorrect. Even though the genre originates from Detroit, most sub-genres originate from Europe. That is why in Europe genres are more focused on the specific musical elements than overal vibe. Like the fact that Tech House has Swing, Hard Techno is fast and over modulated and Trance Techno (Melodic Techno) is just Trance with a typical Tech drive instead of the normal basic disco drive. And finally you seem to have missed one of the most important sub-genre of Techno ever......TRIBAL-TECH and TRIBAL-TECH TRANS. Also called TT or just TTT, which basically accounts for at least 65% of all modern techno tracks.

    Some of the tracks are bad examples, I know its not easy to explain it all correctly, but Acid-Techno for me its like DJ MIsjah, Germany: "Man, Woman, Love," or Emmanuel Top-Tracks, then, there is also Acid-Trance like Nostrum-Tracks for example, too...and Gamma Loop, or simply called Acid-Warrior's-Acid...and Acid-House......
    Acid-House, Acid-Trance and Acid-Techno are all subgenres...
    even Acid-Jazz exist!
    For me, in the beginning was HOUSE, from Chicago, started in 1985,86..
    It was like a big tree with many branches.
    All genres growing out of this tree...and the thickest branch of all was the Techno branch....
    Acid/ Electro/ Techno/Trance/ and other electronic genres like Drumn Bass, Jungle, Breakbeat, Breakdance was in the 80's in the hip hop-scene...
    Don' t forget Chill-Out and Ambient.
    All European countries had their own scene... Drumn Bass was very populated in the UK, the Belgians had their New Wave, Electric Boogie early scene in the 80's..
    There was a sound of Berlin, of Frankfurt, for example, and of Detroit...
    Watch, the interview of the famous DJ Sven Väth, , he gives us a small overview over the electronic scene and their beginnings...Musical pioneers. in germany were the Electronic Group " Kraftwerk" or "Tangerine Dream"...you can see it wasn't house alone, in Germany we had our roots, also...
    And one word to MINIMAL..
    Minimal alone don't stand for genre, Its a definition for a soundproperty, many young kids who listen to nowadays techno, don't understand this..There is Minimal-Techno of course..but Minimal don't stand for itself..its a definition of a sound...
    and SCHRANZ is a fashion-word😊, its no style..Chris Liebing used this word one day, because the techno in his club was so heavy and crashing...its Techno !!

  • @childean
    @childean 3 дня назад

    the thing is. most of the examples are from the last decade and that's already a crossover blend with multiple genres. And back in the days "Innercity - Big fun" was a commercial house tune and no way accepted as a Detroit techno tune. its only produced by Derick May under a different alias. And the Acid techno examples are Peaktime techno blends from a couple of years ago. Huge kicks, rumble bass and a 303 on top. the real acid techno is more like tunes: Stacker- humanoid, Josh Wink - higher state of consciousness. and have a more trippy vibe. and so on with the rest of the genres. nowadays its just a big blend of styles. but u can recognize them by listening tunes in those subgenres between 1989 till 2000

    Contrary to many other commenters here, this video gives a pretty good breakdown of some of the Techno genres. I first heard Techno music after arriving in Goa in early Dec. 1991 after spending the previous five and half months traveling all around India with my girflriend of the time, Sandra Grulli. (Including our 1 month in Goa, we spent 6 and half months riding 16,000 kms on an LML Vespa, plus train hops, through the National Capital Territory(Delhi), Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujurat, Madyha Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa. The techno parties in Goa in Dec. 1991 were superb.
    From 1992 to 1997 I organised some great house and warehouse techno parties in Melbourne, Australia with 100 to 1200 guests. We attended the very first Earthcore Party that was held in early 1992 in Toolangi State Forest. There were only 150 people there. It was organised by Spiros Boursinos (R.I.P.) and Pip Darvall.
    Anyway, my favourite tracks from the list on this video are: (1) "Children" by Robert Miles (2) "The Acid" (T78 Remix) by "A*S*Y*S. BTW, you don't need to be on drugs to enjoy Techno music. The last time I had recreational drugs of any kind was in 1999.

Sinon si tu n'as pas parcouru les bacs de disquaires, le rpm, la phylosophie du morceau, tout n'est pas inscrit certains morceaux seront dur à ranger entre la dub-techno et la house, merci Mr Techno de cet univers.

    I've only been getting into techno relatively recently which youtube has helped a lot with. So far my favourite sub genres comprise of mixes of acid, hard, industrial, dark, house and trance. I gradually drifted towards techno from my love of acid jazz, lo fi hip hop, synthwave, edm, house, melodic rock, pop rock, grunge and metal. Quite a mix huh but I think techno incorporates essences of all those genres and gives it such energy or chill vibes, that's what draws me to it! I also love 70s, 80s pop/motown and 90s ballads 😂
