I was seeing/hearing this very same group of JATP in Oslo, Norway 1958 (ONLY 15yrs) stamping my feet, still is in 2017! Happy,Singing,Dancing, swinging music!
this one of my all time favorite Oscar choruses; melodic, pulsating, not too complex, yet incredible power and intelligence. Herb and Roy in fine form as well. THANKS! for this.
Great video (even though it's cut short for some reason) it's one of the best JATP performances I've seen. And it has the most swinging most perfect Stuff Smith solo I think I've heard. Everyone is in such great form. Just finished listening to a video here at youtube posted as 'Ella Fitzgerald with the Roy Eldridge Sextet Live in Stockholm 1957' (with an album cover) that is the complete version at nearly 8 minutes. But watching the actual video is twice as good just listening because you not only get to hear the magic you get to watch it happening. I recently read that 1957 was Granz's last JATP tour - until the 1967 Europe only JATP tour so I think this is from 1957 Anyway thanks much for sharing this great video.
There seems an element of Gypsy Jazz in the strings eh Django! and that Stuff reminds me of Sid Page ..check out Dan Hicks I Scare Myself...tell me I'm wrong! I love Ella
Maybe my favorite ever Peterson solo. So simple, yet so tasty!
An ultimate groove. It was one of those nights. Just float away with this thing.

Excellent!!
Marvellous. Martin Schmidt-Hahn with his swing-clarinet would have fit into the band as well

Stuff was an original. There were other violinists with more technique, but he's pretty much the king of rhythm.
Kindly note the correct date is 5th May 1957. The 1958 caption on screen is incorrect.
Where is the second part?
