Over the course of his career, he never gave those things up, but just added more techniques and strategies to his arsenal in order to adapt to the reality of his opponents. He did not lose his passion in his efforts to advance. Bless this man.
Also add to all that! That all his opponents are kinda shocked and in anckore when he drop the capoeira moves not knowing what to do only to back down! He plays with there minds aswell by having this style of fight! I love capoeira and finaly someone who use it properly in a fight keep it up!!
He’s a true martial artist. Not only can he adopt other techniques from different fighting styles which is a requirement in professional MMA but he’s also able to adapt to other fighting styles without abandoning his own.
That was his 33rd pro fight and he only had two Capoeira classes when he was 10. He’s a BJJ fighter who was trying to make an impression in his UFC debut. He finished that fight with a flying knee, lost his next two, and hasn’t finished another fight in three years. You guys are reading a lot into this one video and an imagined capoeira background.
This guy's history sounds like some kind of Street Fighter character and I'm all here for it. Dude's literally a world warrior, honing his unique blend of martial arts in a world full of the same old fighters.
I’ve have a 15 years old Brazilian kid taking my karate classes, he did Capoeira and BJJ in his home country but has taken up Karate as he wanted to try something new (I’m his Sensei). I didn’t know much about capoeira, but first thing I noticed is how powerful his kicks are, phenomenal. He also has amazing agility, stamina and flexibility, combined with a great attitude he advancing pretty quickly. I’ve been watching capoeira videos on RUclips a lot, I’m fascinated by it.
The stamina on this guy is off the charts....all these high jumps and flying kicks, are explosive moves that take so much energy to pull off. And under normal circumstances, are considered an extremely inefficient way to finish someone. It's a surefire way to gas yourself out before the fight even starts! it is super counter productive!....So for him to be able to do all of that on top of the regular energy required for a multiple rounds fight, is just astounding....and he does it so effortlessly!
That's part of what capoeira is all about. It takes a lot of effort to do, yet it looks effortless because all the movements are so soft, quick, and fluid, and all the landings are very gentle and don't make any sound. It's about learning how to move through a large range of motion with strength and control. While also learning how to master the different angles through which the human body can move through on top of that. It's really cool stuff!!
Im friends with a kid who I'm definitely way stronger and have more normal technique but he honestly has so much damn energyi would never fight him lmao

Yeah the Capoeira isn't winning many of the fights, it's his boxing/thai boxing skills but it is fun to watch someone try to use it. I've sparred against Capoeira guys in the past and it can be quite intimidating to have legs windmilling at you from all directions but you just have to be patient and time the counter correctly.
It seems like it can be super disruptive and disorienting to an opponent not knowing what to expect and how to defend and counter against it, then he can land that perfect KO punch when they can't guess where he is going next. However I feel like the longer this gimmick endures and the more high profile UFC fights he gets the more predictable he will become to a serious opponent, if they study his tapes they'll know when to wait and time a counter attack. He also seems to have no ground or clinch game at all, the danger is all in his strikes at range. Fun to watch though!
@@chrisoakleyfx and on top of the disorienting moves, there's UFC rules that need to be adhered to - so his opponents are kept calculating when his hands and a knee are on the floor, for example, and whether their kick might land in his groin. Just a correction. His nickname "Demolidor" does not mean "Destroyer", it is actually a reference to Marvel's Daredevil, for some reason Daredevil is known in Brasil as Demolidor, and Michel Pereira has this nickname due to the acrobatics
Yeah, and English have the word Demolisher, which is the same word as "Demolidor". But yeah, the fact that Daredevil is translated as Demolidor in Brasil is a good reference Obs: Destroyer would be "Destruidor"

Even if you think some of his techniques are impractical, just look at the momentum he can put behind his strikes and you can see Pereira has really learned to capitalize on Capoéira in a more practical form. this isn't really just Capoéira, it is mixed styles but still it shows that knowing how to spring off walls and use built momentum can be practical and not just a gimic.
I've been saying this for years. "gimmick" moves work because they catch people off guard. Nobody trains against them. As long as your fundamentals are solid, you can mix gimmicky moves in to great effect. On the flip side: if all you know is gimmicks, you're going to get your shit pushed in.
In reality, well performed capoeira techniques, deliver the most amount of strength compared to any other martial arts. There's a move wich is launched from the ground upwards, and the kick is strong enough to crack bones and set the opponent in pain

I think some may be able to pull off those moves, but few can actually use them in a fight. It's how it was with Ronaldinho. He wasn't the only one capable of the tricks he used, but he was almost every single time using them to get across his opponent, score or assist. Ronaldinho wasn't showboating at all. And if I look at the opponents of Pereira, the least you could say is, that most of them have their trouble with adapting on his style.

Maybe next time he enters the ring, he can even incorporate some disco moves and really get the party started. Let's just hope his opponent can keep up with his killer dance moves!
Being that we usually see Capoeira as more of a dance and non-competitive use, I think this is the closest we can get to practical application of Capoeira....and I gotta say, I love the breathe of fresh air Michel's technique brings.
The dance was to disguise what was an outlawed practice, it was not originally a dance. Just like Kata in Tai Chi and Kung Fu, was developed out of the need for secrecy. This is why people mistake these arts for useless these days, the core has been replaced with its adaptations to get around draconian laws, couple this with the recent MMA rise through media, and people have a distorted view of martial arts (just as distorted as when people believed in McDojo's, it;s just now on the opposite pole). People have mistaken poor teaching and loss of specific knowledge for poor Martial Arts.
@@jacksmith4460 Honestly, I really don't get why it gets so trashed on. It can be really fun to practice, has some insane evading hitting and evading movements if done correctly, and will generally always keep you alert on your feet if you're dedicated to this style and have the endurance to do so. The point of it is to never stop moving and keep the flow going, right?
Which is kind of crazy, since he’s never really trained Capoeira. I feel like he’ll be the example of “capoeira being used in MMA” like people use Anderson Silva as an example of “Wong Chun in MMA” or any of the numerous fighters who did TKD when they were nine years old before going on to study wrestling, Muay Thai, BJJ and boxing, but folks will always bring up that they are “TKD masters!” because they got a junior blackbelt after 9 months in elementary school.
As an Aikidoka, don't disparage any art. They all have something to add. Just like Aiki, it's not a complete fighting style, but Capoeira can add a new set of techniques and training exercises to enhance the skills of an already great boxer/wrestler/judoka etc.

@@u235u235u235 "strike and choke out" lmao, there are lots of martial arts that teach you how to do that in lots of different ways and most of them have been effectively used in the octagon. Almost all martial arts have value if they adapt and not cling to tradition. Even boxing didn't work in MMA until it was modified and adapted. Muay Thai wasn't effective until it changed it's punching techniques to be like boxing. BJJ was devastating initially, but had to adapt once the fighters learned some ground defence and BJJ guys started losing.

Definitely I agree…. His style is for sure dangerous as hell but he gets it off but it’s not something that’s gonna work for him in the long distance against a real champion contender…My opinion of course
People really look down on and underestimate the value of your opponent just not knowing what he's looking at and what you're doing, because even if he *could* do things to counter it, he doesn't *think* to do it because you're doing shit he's never prepared for. As long as you actually have strong fundamentals and aren't using it as a crutch, confusion can be a powerful tool. As he gets in more fights and becomes more of a known factor that advantage will degrade, since his opponents will know to prepare for this stuff, but he seems to be aware of that and leaning off it as time goes on.

I don't want to act like a pro and this only my opinion. A good Muay Thai fighter could gives him a hard time by immobilizing his legs. But in the bottom line, it's how the fighter fights and like you said his opponents has no idea how to fight against his style.
I love how he backs off after he estimates that the fight is over due to ko instead of smashing the head of his opponents on the ground when he knocked them down.
They keep hitting because the rules tell them to. It doesnt count as a knockout until the ref cuts it off. That's why they do it in the UFC for example. You can get kod, get back up and continue fighting if the ref doesnt cut it off.

One of the things I've loved about UFC and MMA in general, is how old styles have shone through. From the early days of BJJ, to wrestling, Judo, to Thai boxing coming in, to some saying Karate was useless, only for Karate to come in and prove effective, and now even Capoeira. Still waiting for Aikido to have its day, but hey, can't have everything.
i dont think he is a proof that capoeira is effective. he is passionate about it and god bless him for trying, but to make up for lack of efficiency, he mixes in other elements into it. I still cant picture capoeira as a one on one serious fighting style comparable to BJJ or kick boxing. On another hand, i am glad there are people like him who experiment and we get to see different stuff in the ring.
capoeira is not effective he does a lot to set up his ability to use what little capoeira he does it's not like he's actually going out there and doing capoeira and aikido, even if it wasn't a big joke, can't fit into MMA rulesets but we already know it's useless because no aikido guy has ever done anything but get their ass kicked in a vale tudo fight you know what happens when you try to do a wrist turn? you get your face pushed in if you want an example of a martial art that is actually effective but not seen a whole lot look at kyokushin karate literally you can replace muay thai with kyokushin, and paired with BJJ that's like a solid framework for mixed fighting I'm sure sanshou is fine too and those dudes have a wicked clinch fighting system
I absolutely love the fact that he smacked that Russian in the head at the end of the match, getting him back for the disrespectful pre-fight smack. That's how you do it!

He did not lose his passion in his efforts to advance. Bless this man.

While he's known for his kicks and acrobatic style, the main thing that stood out to me was the speed and precision of his punches. He was really good at snapping that chin.
He may not be the most effective fighter, but he is very entertaining to see. I love when a fighter risks his winning chance to try things, enjoy more of the fight & entertain the fans.
That Imadaev Fight was pure joy to watch. A real-life example of Karma.
Loved when he bitchslapped his ass after that weigh-in 👌
He's unbelievably athletic.
He is a fighter that win or loose is entertaining to watch .
Honestly I think his opponents had no idea how to fight against this style, and that gives him a lot of advantages
Yup, it’s entertaining but many of his moves leave him wide open when he misses. An opponent who prepares for this will have little problems taking him out.
I don't want to act like a pro and this only my opinion. A good Muay Thai fighter could gives him a hard time by immobilizing his legs. But in the bottom line, it's how the fighter fights and like you said his opponents has no idea how to fight against his style.
Bro he got beat by a small 155er
Just trip them. It's rainbow 🌈 brigade
@@unbroken1010 WTF is that even supposed to mean?
I love how he backs off after he estimates that the fight is over due to ko instead of smashing the head of his opponents on the ground when he knocked them down.
I always remember muhammed ali when I see that behaviour.
@@GG-jg6py this is the philosophy of the martial arts honor and sportsmanship.
@@mythocrat Looks like only one percent of the fighters actually heard about it.
They keep hitting because the rules tell them to. It doesnt count as a knockout until the ref cuts it off. That's why they do it in the UFC for example. You can get kod, get back up and continue fighting if the ref doesnt cut it off.
@@jermu8706 Incorrect. I watched a video of a guy doing a double leg takedown on his opponent, and he slammed his own head on the mat and knocked himself out and 0.1 seconds after his opponent tapped out. They said because he was knocked out before the tap he loses, ref didn't pull anybody off.
This had me laughing my ass off 😂😂 It's almost a joke... But at the same time he can knock you out 😂 These fighters were low key more afraid then they've ever been.
Omg when he did the back flip while fighting looked like just for the heck of it 😄😄
This!!!!! Like it look funny as heck.... but he really not a joke
Bro always looks like he's having a good time, living his best life. Great to watch
Bloody Hell. Its like fighting a Tekken character in real life. AWesome!
incredible kicks, punches, throws and a good ground game
Mad respect for not jumping like a rabid animal on already downed opponents for the guy! He's a true fighter unlike some others of MMA
0:11 Woo hoo oh yeahh😀 spining show👍
It was inevitable that he would become more conservative with those crazy moves, they can be effective if used in the right moment but take too much energy. He would be a killer if he managed his energy levels better.
this comment.
.....fuck were the ufc games good....
Those moves that a lot of energy his coach should be fired
Super fun fights to watch and he can still be flashy while conserving energy. that backflip onto a downed opponent is basically illegal though. you can't kick a persons' head/soccer kick buuuut the flip looks so cool its basically like "ehhhhh let him get away with it until he actual stomps someones face"
It's not all about winning at that level, but also showmanship. A good technical fighter may well pick him apart, but they aren't going to draw the crowds.
Great video. First watch of the channel, but really informational, entertaining, a real beginning, middle, and end. Just a solid video that got me interested in the guy and this channel. Whatever format you follow, it's working for me at least. I saw the length of the video and I'm happy to say I watched it all the way through. Really solid
Excellent breakdown of this fighter. I like his deliberate performance-driven preparation mixed with artistic capoeiric expression.
Always did it in pure style, Epic ❤ cant wait to see more, top quality
Michel Pereira vs Michael Page would be such an amazing fight.
Omg yessir. Even izzy after his next fight.
Pereira is easily one of the most fun to watch people in MMA today. Really impressive.
Yep agree him And Johny Walker Are my favourites!
I'm Brazilian and a huge fan of martial arts. Capoeira is the True brazilian fight, created by Black People who lived in slavery and starts to practice singing and dancing, so most of People thought they were just celebrating something in their afrikan culture. Capoeira influenced culture and music and I do encourage every martial arts fan to know more about this amazing brazilian sport. Salve Capoeira!!
One of my Favourite Fighter so Far.
On another hand, i am glad there are people like him who experiment and we get to see different stuff in the ring.
capoeira is not effective
he does a lot to set up his ability to use what little capoeira he does
it's not like he's actually going out there and doing capoeira
and aikido, even if it wasn't a big joke, can't fit into MMA rulesets
but we already know it's useless because no aikido guy has ever done anything but get their ass kicked in a vale tudo fight
you know what happens when you try to do a wrist turn?
you get your face pushed in
if you want an example of a martial art that is actually effective but not seen a whole lot
look at kyokushin karate
literally you can replace muay thai with kyokushin, and paired with BJJ that's like a solid framework for mixed fighting
I'm sure sanshou is fine too and those dudes have a wicked clinch fighting system
@@tictacterminator This is like reading a copy-paste job straight out of the bullshido forums.
I’ve never seen very entertaining UFC Figther like Capoeira 🇺🇸🇧🇷
How haven’t I seen this guy before, he mightn’t be number 1 but he certainly puts on a show. His moves just put the opponents off completely
Brazil invented jiu-jitsu and capoeira, this is a place of warriors
Calma veloz, inventamos Jiu-Jitsu não. Inventamos uma variante.
How he mixed up his kicks with boxing and takedown is beautiful.
I absolutely love the fact that he smacked that Russian in the head at the end of the match, getting him back for the disrespectful pre-fight smack.
That's how you do it!
Isn't this exactly what people want see? Such a entertaining athlete! Legend!
He's entertaining to watch but I do think the backflips onto downed opponents is a bit dodgy... He gets away with headkicks to a downed opponent all the time, it's almost like a loophole that he uses. Not intentional enough to DQ him.
@@homedogoli true, that is something that could be figured out. but it is not only the back flips he is doing... he's just different and i like to watch him doing unexpected moves😉
@@MiG-40i Yeah I love everything else he does, just that one thing that bothers me. He's gonna take someone's eye out with his toe eventually lol!
@Chili sorry for you that chuck norris ended his career
The reason I do not watch the ufc anymore is it got as boring as a slow boxing fight. The golden days of the ufc are long gone. The ufc needs to reinvent themselves. Change some rules. Make some games. I dunno. Most of the fights got stale due to all the reglemantations.
He is pure art! 💪🏾😎
Dude is a beast, he looks absolutely huge compared to some of his opponents too
He literaly can crush his opponent head many times but he always held back himself, what a great fighter
@@sickmotors Nah he does show mercy on grounded opponents, you dont see him spam hammerfists when his opponent trips after a heavy blow of some sort.
you can see the improvements as he gets more experience
he used to prioritize the crowd's entertainment before, but he realized along the way he kinda had to step it down a bit if he wants constant wins
don't get me wrong, he's still a flashy/entertaining fighter... but he doesn't do the unnecessary movements if it's too risky anymore
Not just fun for him and viewers but more lethal as well I think. What a gem of a fighter
I noticed that as his career progressed to more experience opponents, he toned down the ninja moves. But he still seems to be decent at the basics.
This man will bring upon the UFC a generation of fighters that are plucked straight out of Street Fighter or King of Fighters like him!
Tekken bro.. tekken
Got that right
Eddie was always banned from our tournaments
eddy gordo
Nope
Amazing skills. Just to fight in the UFC but to do so with such pace and style.
I love that you show the normalized side of the fighters, its a whole different story that i had no idea existed and it makes it more than knockouts! thanks again friend
His style is everything we are not use to seeing ... I love it ...
He's proving that style IS everything.
Michel Pereira represents CAPOEIRA very well, which is one of our heritages as well as jiu-jitsu. My country always brilliant in martial arts, BRAZIL 🇧🇷 LAND OF WARRIORS.
SEM DÚVIDAS.
Land of pretty ladies.
So incredibly athletic his dance fighting is a distraction that can make another guy forget what he's doing and take a big strike after being mesmerized ..It's a spectacle but it can put him in a defenseless position to get nailed..if he only had capoeira he would just be a dangerous side show but his high skill in other forms make him extremely dangerous and unpredictable .
