It's probably a better strategy than trying to kill every last man in melee considering how long that takes in WH3. It's definitely something I do, or use a mortis engine effect or something like Mystifying Miasma.
I find armies of missile units to be the most stressfull to play since they are good weather armies. A bit of terrible terrain and an enemy army of fast and heavy units can quickly ruin the day.
One of the most fun elements of TWW3 battles is missile units' effectiveness. On the other hand, one of its most "un-fun" elements is cavalry units' ineffectiveness, compared with older TW titles such as Rome I.
That lock control group is actually new knowledge to me, all this time i thought units only don't break formation when i send them in attack mode. Nice to know
Everything from 17:02 onward made me laugh because I had to imagine the beginning of the "Hunter adn the Beast" trailer, just with Archaeon and Katarin replacing the Dread Saurian and War Wagon.
Amazed that you managed to win this. I shouldn't be surprised given what you pull off regularly, but still. You definitely have great micro and macro skills.
Just wanted to say thanks for the vid! Always love to throw um ep on my second screen and try out your tactics with whatever faction I'm playing to see how it can be incorporated.
I laughed an unreasonable amount at that hero yelling "ice queen's champion" before ineffectively poking archeon in the butt then getting pimpslapped into next week.
Was Katarin's health bar full when the battle started? I'm asking 'cause lately I've been loading into battle with her on a War Sled and she had slightly less HP (-0,46% roughly) than normal and I wanted to know if that happened to anybody else...
@@anonymoose219 Vanilla. Edit: Lately I've been noticing that his Katarin shares the same amount of health (8067/8101 HP) with mine on the same campaign (Immortal Empires) with the same mount so that means he too has defeated Throt with her. Hence, I'm suspecting this has got to be a common bug...
This question may not related to the vid, but does Battle diffficulty affect AI behaviour? Or every difficulty has the same AI behaviour? Am kinda new and rn only play at Normal difficulty
It definitely does, I am just not sure to which extend. But on hard battle difficulty bombardment spells and mortars are much less effective unless the enemy is pinned down or in a siege, since the AI will try to dogde artillery and spells as well as it can.
Funnily enough, I'm pretty sure half of the cheese Legend does wouldn't work on normal difficulty because the AI doesn't care about trying to form up properly, they usually just full send their entire army which actually makes them less dumb than the very hard AI in most of the scenarios we see on here.
I have a similar battle with Archaon that I have been itching to send to you. It is on valiant defeat on legendary with 0 A.I cheats but no matter what tactic I use I lose very close.
i can't stop playing the warriors of chaos and the upgrade system ..it's so good ! it's kind of unfair for the factions that don't have any mechanics or shitty mechanics
The Empire should've gotten something like it for their inner circle knights where you can upgrade Empire knights to inner circle knights once they get certain experience level and then choose a chapter house for unique benefits.
@@msf47 There's a lot of reason why that system won't work for every faction. For example, undead factions have raise dead, which defeats the purpose of the mechanic, and in a lot of cases the "upgrade" is actually a downgrade or side-grade. Zombies are in many ways better than grave guard. The reason why I suggested Empire knights because they(inner circle knights) are in the lore, just more experienced versions or empire knights, just like how chosen are just better versions of chaos warriors.
@@colbunkmust I reckon Markus Wulfhart would be a good choice for this mechanic for Empire. His boys are out in the jungle fighting a guerilla war and would upgrade their own gear. He is the worst one and could use a bit of TLC too lol
Archaon spirit leeching that nearly dead unit has to be the most petty thing I've ever seen the AI do lol.

the AI-pocalypse has arrived
I swear an army of missile units is the most fun to watch and play, watching them rain down on waves of enemies is so satisfying

Ice guards are the poor man's sisters of avelorn

@@VolinRabah I'd even say that Ice Guard is Lothern Sea Guard with a different coat of paint.
They are not a doomstack in any means. They are support units to slow down the enemy.

Locking control group formation was really nice, learned something new after all those years, thanks Legend!
for real, I have about 2 thousand hours in wh2 and 3 and I just found out - LUL.
Good guy legend always teaching us tricks :D
"But Legend, army-lossing Archaon is cheeeeeese!"
Uncle Fukunkle and the Golden Gryphon of Whatever: two of the most terrifying champions of Chaos.

Thats why Chaos needed the plot armor of infinite armies everywhere to bring about the End Times. Theyre chumps.

Heading in for surgery, wondering if I'll see Archaeon in th hospital
Good luck!
It'd be better to see Archaeon than Festus, that's for sure.
"One Does Not Simply Wound Archaon" Crazy laughs of Malakai Makkaison with grudge settler gyrocopter intensify.
Well that was one hell of a battle!! Seeing Legends struggle a bit is fun to watch! What a champ 👑
I see Katarin has stolen Archaon's eyes. He's not very good at holding onto them for some reason.
I laughed an unreasonable amount at that hero yelling "ice queen's champion" before ineffectively poking archeon in the butt then getting pimpslapped into next week.
I hope I’m not the only one to finally discover a use for control groups
@LegendofTotalWar is the LEGEND!!
Most petty spirit leech in the history of spirit leech from archy at the end there
Now I got really tempted to reinstall TWWH2.
Thanks for the vid Legend!
Oh my.... locked formation can do that. Thanks! That looks very useful.
3:38 - 4:40 that was insanely helpful!
man, the locked formations thingy is super useful
You have to keep a cool head when facing down Archaon.
golden knight could've kept Archaon from casting, she has a silence aura, so that may have saved that one unit from getting wiped
at 7:20 how was he able to place his army like that so fast?
and in that formation so fast too
