Frontier Town is a MUST BUY! After that, if you've got the budget for it, I'd go with purchasing one of the other base sets. While I love the Caverns of Cynder monsters, that World doesn't get fleshed out enough until you purchase a couple more related enemy expansions (Magma Giant, Succubi, or others).
For those of y'all wondering where to start, here's what I suggest. Pick a core set that appeals to you. If you like steampunk/Cthulhu horror/western go City of Ancients. If you like savage world/western/lizard tribes, Swamps of Jargano. If you like Feudal Japan/SE Asian horror get Forbidden Fortress. Once you've got that core set start picking and choosing expansions that look cool to you or that you feel fit the theme of the story good like to tell.
This game is great and i love the derelict ship expansion! For me it's my favourite even before frontier town! (though that is a must buy) Anything can happen in brimstone. One second you're walking through a mine and the next "Hey!? Who turned out the lights?!"
Thanks for this video Rob! I have Shadows of Brim Forbidden Fortress but I haven't gotten it to the table yet (I will!!). I will def have to give it a go and its great to see some of these other expansions. Cheers, Ryan
The new card expansions that they Have for frontier town and weapons upgrades and the heroes and villains bonus. I just love this time right now for shadows of brimstone is a great time to be a fan. Completely agree that frontier town is a must buy for both of the base sets to work with
Thanks for this, Rob! I went down a rabbit hole of your videos covering SoB, and wow, I'm super interested in nabbing up as much of it as I can. The western theme speaks to me the most as I have so many other games that cover the other genres quite well. My first thought was, "It feels like Eldritch Horror meets Gloomhaven in the world of Western Legends!", and I'm SUPER down with that. The only negative critique I have is that Bleeding Cowboys font. It's out there and free for anyone to use, and as a designer it just screams "played out and lazy", but I suppose it's a minor gripe to most people. I imagine once the game arrives I will have to work very hard to ignore it hahahaha Cheers!
I have a fair bit of the game. But being in the UK it’s difficult to get. The Frogs have a poor supply option out to Europe. To get all the great card sets you need to order direct. Which makes it a no go based on delivery costs. Been looking out for Derelict Ship for nearly a year now. Thanks as always Rob for the video.
Hey Rob! Don't mind me for going off topic but did you see the new Goonies Never Say Die Board Game? It looks like a fun game. Did you ever see the new Fast And The Furious Board Game? That one looks cool and fun to play, buy it looks like ThunderRoad. They should've made it like ThunderRoad and Formula D and you can go off track to go on different missions in different areas of the boards. That's my opinion on the game. I think that would've been cool. Oh! I forgot to add that both games are from Funko Games.
@@seahawk8601 check it out online. If you like the movie and or light dungeon crawl style games check out The Goonies Never Say Die Board Game. You might like it. It not really dungeon crawl style but more action adventure with a dungeon master screen. It's cool. I want to buy it.
@@seahawk8601 Fast And The Furious Board Game is cool just like ThunderRoad in different ways, but I think they should've added some Racing and going around searching and battling in different areas of the board. That would've been cool, but all in all, it's not a bad game. It's kind of fun and exciting.
Get a core set that appeals to you and start filling it out with thematically associated creature boxes... like, all the western/desert monsters for the cowboy setting... the swamp monsters for the swamp setting... etc. Do that, rather than buying into several disparate settings at once and not really having much support for any of them.
Just getting stuff for Shadows of Brimstone is a game like Pokimon... Gotta catch them all!!... Everything looks good with SoB I find myself buying stuff before playing the stuff I own. That's not a good sign.
This game is a universe in itself... The only problem I have with Flying Frog is the "Never-ending Kickstarter" routine that continues to drag down an already multimillion dollar project to the point of ridiculousness... Asshats already get more then 1,000 from you, THEN want 3,000 more as they move the goalposts. Great game, crap execution.
More Shadows of Brimstone coverage please! Keep it coming!
You got it!

Conquistadors vs a dark cult and serpentman tribes is the story I will be playing 😁
"Pick a core that appeals to you", I don't know how you are capable of such insight.
Excellent! Been painting up a lot of this as well. Looking forward to your videos 😁
Great!

Sure is
wish I could get the upgrade kits but good gosh they are crazy priced almost as much as a new base game.
true
@@seahawk8601 Rob if you ever talk with Flying Frog tell them we need a reprint of the upgrade kits.. for both base games. Thanks :)

The game is glorious and I really love it has a few quirks but still plenty of adventure

I have almost bought that game many times...just cannot make myself pull the trigger
you need it!!!
I don't even know what to buy to start with Shadows of Brimstone, there is so much stuff..
Start with the core sets first
