    I live in Honolulu and flew Southwest back to LAX last year to visit my parents. The five hour flight was basic but nice. Two Hawaiian themed snack trays were offered, and in-flight stramed entertainment was available on your smartphone or tablet. On the return flight the crew played the Hawaii Five-O theme on the speakers after we touched down. If you can score the tickets they are definitely worth it.

    Looks like a really nice flight. I never realized that Southwest now has streaming movies and TV shows on their flights. That's a nice snack pack as well.

    Southwest commands nearly 30% Hawaii market share with 80 flights/day from the mainland to the islands. They are also the only mainland carrier to be given the opportunity to fly inter island by the Hawaiian Tourism Board.

    I fly Southwest as much as feasible when on work trips, just due to the ease of changing tickets, and the good nature of the crews. I'm flying to OGG in August, and appreciate you sharing your flight! I've flown Southwest a couple of trips in May; the drink menu has increased. They even provide lime with my club soda! :-) Thank you so much for an informative trip report and gorgeous images from your window!

    Great review! I love the Southwest business model. It is possible to offer a basic, no frills service, but with comfortable seating and great, friendly crew. People eat way too much anyway. In many cases, a meal in a lounge and then a meal onboard. When you are doing nothing but sitting on your ass for 6 hours, a full meal is not necessary. Southwest must save a ton on the excess weight required to board a fully catered aircraft with meals. At any rate, good for Southwest for keeping things simple, and with one class of service only! If you don't like it, there are plenty of other options available. Looks like a generous amount of leg room, too. I would be certainly willing to give up loads of other amenities for that extra space!

    • @scottmcdonaldAAL211
      @scottmcdonaldAAL211 Год назад +1

      It's not just the extera weight of the 'meals' - it's a PITA to try to satisfy passengers' qwirky dietary/religious/random food requirements! Then, even if the meal is 'compliant' with their funky requirements, you run the risk of "it doesn't TASTE good!"... from the Karens on the flight. Going with the snack pack is definitely the SAFE and SANE call. SWA pilots told me their #1 hated thing on flights? DRUNK PASSENGERS. Honestly speaking air travel would likely be much safer if the passengers could not consume alcohol onboard. Not gonna happen.

    I flew their MAX for the first time between San Diego and Honolulu. It was a empty flight that nearly every pax got their own row! LUV definitely needs power outlets and I hear they are finally coming. The return trip was Honolulu to Phoenix on another MAX. That flight was packed. My advice if flying into Honolulu always sit on the left side of the aircraft for the best views (arriving and departing). If flying the MAX the first 8 rows are the quietest (even though that's relatively speaking since the whole plane is considerably quieter then the non MAX 737s.)

    Since when did the entertainment work over the water? I haven't flown since the pandemic but I was on a southwest in 2018 to San Juan (both in the the 800 and 700 on the return) and the entertainment system did NOT work over the ocean. Once the plane reached the US mainland (florida) the system reconnected, then disconnected again over the gulf of mexico. Are these planes specific to SWA's Hawaii ops, or did they upgrade the satellite coverage fleetwide (or at least their ETOPS fleet)?

      @@aa777flyer That's the current plan for now. Southwest has started to replace their 737-700 fleet so it wouldn't be financially viable to install them. I'm not sure why they're not adding them to their 737-800s though.

    on a 6 hour flight, Southwest needs to provide an actual meal, even if it means raising prices slightly. What they provided is not good enough.

    • @Lunadog99
      @Lunadog99  2 года назад +5

      While I do agree, I doubt they'll ever do that because of their business model. I would like to mention though that what Southwest offers on a flight this duration is slightly better than what airlines like United and American offer for free in Economy.
