Island Hopping Hawaii on Southwest Airlines

- This flight marks the end to our adventures on the Big Island of Hawaii and something I long wanted to do since I heard about them starting operations in the Aloha state. That, is fly Southwest Airlines intra-island, hopping across the Hawaiian island chain - today from Kona to Honolulu. Hawaiian Airlines have long been known to do these short island hops, but with Southwest Airlines joining the mix, which one is truly better? Hope y'all enjoy!

RIP To all the fire victims in Maui, truly a horrific tragedy. We were in Maui a few years ago and Lahaina was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
And a big Fu to the investors trying to buy up their properties smh some cold shit Capitalism ain’t shit
I truly love Southwest Airlines, been flying with them for years, many many many many many times. It is always a incredible experience every single time. Great work man, keep up the great work! 👏
I love Southwest Airlines they're my childhood airline I always fly on them
Southwest is the Best. Praying for all the people in Maui who lost their lives.
I love flying with Southwest!!!
Just 7 weeks ago, we were on vacation in Lahaina. Hard to believe this has happened. Sending sincere condolences and prayers to the people of Maui.
I have always felt like Southwest filled in a void left when Aloha Airlines ceased passenger operations.
I also was surprised many years ago when a Japan Airlines 747 landed and pulled up real close to the gate area almost right over everyone's head.
Fantastic trip report Chris!
Another great video
I truly love flying Southwest. They are always my number one airline and I fly them the most. They are very reliable (besides December 2022). They are also good for their friendly employees and two checked bags. And let’s not forget the snack mix and then brownie brittle for long flights. Thanks for making this vid dawg.
I've also done Hawaiian and Southwest for inter-island Hawaii flights. They each have their pros. Southwest's main pro is the free checked bags. But HA has the advantage of no agriculture inspections (as the WN planes might continue to/come from the mainland), so the time needed pre-boarding is less and you don't have to worry about throwing anything out. Plus, HA has way more interisland flights whereas Southwest only has a couple between various airports, giving you more flexibility. Additionally, if you're going to/from HNL, HA's inter-island gates (at least when I flew there) were pretty close to the curb, so it was a much faster process before and after landing.
So for overall cost (especially when factoring bags), Southwest is likely the better option. But when it comes to time and flexibility, Hawaiian is the better option.
@Chris Jazz the free texting is great
This was a Great Vacation!
Good video!
Another great video Chris! At least there were no “Karens” aboard this flight! Which I watched your flight on AA just before this video! I don’t remember flying AA myself in my years of flying. The last time I flew commercial was several years ago when Northwest Airlines and Northwest Airlink were still in operation. That was my first time flying from Moline “KMLI” to Detroit then Detroit to Manchester New Hampshire. Yeah that dates me but who cares 😊. Shoot I’ve flown on Ozark Airlines several times (long ago). I do enjoy your channel 110%! Mark in Iowa.
Ooh, Southwest just started those routes with the 737 MAX 8!
Southwest also flies to Hilo too!!!
Out of curiosity, did you have better Southwest experiences with longer Southwest flights (~5 hours) or really short Southwest flights (i.e. island hopping in Hawaii)?
Just so you know you have a very unique landing. That is the reverse flow from normal landings. in the 15+ times I have flown into HNL, I have never been on a reverse flow flight.
Southwest has made adjustments to their IFEs on electronic devices as well as add charging outlets too on their seats
00:48 I just found that out too, i had no idea either if anything it would be Honolulu, where you are heading here.😅
the timing of these videos 💀
Tell me about it 😢
Family of 4 flew to Hawaii for 3 weeks. Each had only a carry-on and a personal item.
Ever done a review of DCA to MCO on American?
So sad to see what happened over there..my condoleces to the familys who lost loved ones..😢😢😢😢.🙏🙏🙏
Woah woah woah…Chris Jazz?
Been a while since I have seen a Southwest video on this channel!!! When will you upload PIT to MDW to MCI when Pittsburgh plays at Kansas City December 21 and you were with Lunadog???
Boarding your MAX aircraft outdoors via a ramp is the only and best way to enter! Your final approach to HNL is rare--flying close by the Waikiki hotels is a sight to behold--normal procedure is to cruise by Pearl Harbor and Hickam AFB before touching down on the reef runway--so a 717 vs a 737 MAX for island hopping, what say you?
❤️💛💙👍🥰
Nice Edits my friend. good vid too.
What were the temps
Your handlers sat right behind you in 26F aka Jazz mom!!!
Handlers? wtf
@@thejazzguy13 parents lol
Interesting how the winds were out of the west when you flew into Honolulu instead of the east
Interestingly enough, the vast majority of airports in the US are "outside only" kind of places like Kona.
Imagine slapping even when COVID killed your reputation
Keep in mind the people in Hawaii
you know this video was made a couple of years ago with masks?
Where did JAZZGUY go 😢
I'll always be here just decided to finally update my channel name to my actual name!
@@thejazzguy13 oh okay, understandable👍 Amazing content still tho man. Im lovin it!!!
First
I really wanna meet you
When will Jazz Guy get hooked by. Jazz Girl?
Yo can you fly out of mci the last time you did it was formtier out if the old airline we just got a new airport
How are you not sunburned like I spend 1 day in Hawaii and I'm redder then a lobster
Wher are you Chris Jazz? 😢
hi
Fly to norfolk international airport
I'll choose hawaiian 717 over this
weird how they use a big max for island hopping, a 700 would do better
The 700's of southwest is not etops certified :/ . But from what i heard .. once they get the max 7's they will use it to fly over hawaii..
@@KaiOz oh i didnt know
I was looking for a trip report, not to have to look at YOU !!! go to ...
seats pitch on the max and the 800s are better than the series 700s
The jazz guy why do you stop making RUclips videos
Mask mandate still in Hawaii? 🤔pathetic 🙄
The absolute nerve you have to post this right now is insane. No care for the victims, no links to donate, nothing. Absolute typical of Americans. Native Hawaiians have been very vocal about not wanting tourists anymore at all and not only do you not honor it, you post this during wildfires. shame shame
He doesn’t include donation links with his content. He also did make a comment of his regards to the fire victims. Besides this video was filmed over a year before the fires. If you read the description, you’ll notice that it says filmed in January 2022.
Rip to the people who died in Maui
