You guys clearly didn't research the samurai much. They weren't 'chosen from birth.' They were born into samurai families! And they weren't peacekeepers. They were warriors who fought and died in their masters' military campaigns. Some samurai even occasionally attacked commoners, who they saw as being beneath them. In the movie 7 Samurai, the villagers had armour they got from samurai they killed. There was a reason they hunted samurai.
Indiana Jones | 0:30 Jaws | 1:07 The Exorcist | 1:38 Goodfellas | 2:20 The Silence Of The Lambs | 2:58 Catch Me If You Can | 3:34 The Sound Of Music | 4:14 Almost Famous | 4:51 A Few Good Men | 5:28 Star Wars | 6:00
The animated film "Up" was based on a true story. The original house was on Alki Point, West "Seattle. I know, I lived down the block and we always cheered Helen on. A big hi-rise condo surrounded 3 sides of her little blue beach shack. She sold it to the developer with the caveat they couldn't have it till she died. I'm sure she's passed, but I haven't been back to the old neighborhood to see what became of the site. She was a tough old bird and we loved her for it.
Eryone knows this?? Henry hill the grassin basterd, lol one of my top 5 movies man..u see him going back to his old spot in a documentary.. he was so fukin scared man
Further proof of what I said is the original script of SW had "Jedi Templars" and that Operation Knightfall is basically order 66, elimination of the jedi(or templar)
+Patrik Rosander | Thank you for your reply. I have checked your website, and I really appreciate your work, some really nice art there. Out of curiosity, how did you come to find out about your work being used on this video ?
Didn't know the movie Titanic was true. How did they have such good cameras back then? And how is Jack still alive? I see him in all kinds of movies. Still find it hard to believe it was a true event, with him still being alive. #illuminati
I don't know about you guys' out there, but I get the impression that the original Star Wars movies, about the evil Empire and its fight with the rebels had more to do with the revolutionary war between the the British American colonists and the British Crown. The similarities seem transparent to me. The good guys' were played mainly by American actors and the baddies played by British character actors of that time. Ironic that most of the Star Wars filming takes place within the Evil Empire's backyard (UK). Being a Brit, I strongly object to being seen as a baddie, so much so, I have cancelled my subscription to the Wall Street Journal and taken up the Radio Times publication instead! Oh! And, I have given up on Mars Bars and Chunky Kit Kats as well! So, Luke, sorry, Darth Vader gets my vote!
+KP guitarzan Hi, KP. Well I get the 'thingy' bit! The rest kind'a goes right over my head - I never was into the conspiracy thing! However, movies are movies, mainly for one to enjoy, and, I for one enjoyed the original Star Wars movie. My earlier comments were light hearted, not to be taken seriously, but then humour has many facets, some see the funny side where others take offence, I guess. It is not easy striking that fine balance which agrees with everyone on the planet. The one thing in your comment that I find humorous is the 'thingy' bit - I doubt anyone would take offence at that! All the best, Bill.
The exorcist was based on a case in St. Louis, there is even a room at St. Louis university that is chained shut and holds items from that particular exorcism
6:09 I WOULD TOTALLY WATCH a Star Wars inspired Japanese samurai movie! That would be incredible! Edit: They're toys that exist! "Star Wars Celebration, Tamashii Nations"
The storyline of the fall of the Republic in Star Wars was NOT based on Nazis, but a much older event: the usurpation of the republican senate in Rome by the dictatorship of one man, with the title of Emperor, thus ending the Roman Republic and giving rise to the Roman Empire.
I thought everyone knew the Imperial Army was based on Nazis and Samurai?.. Han Solos gun was based on a the (Nazi gun) Mauser, and that is pretty damn obvious.
star wars was actually inspired by a Japanese film called "Hidden Fortress" where a samurai general must save a princess from an invading army. its really a cool movie
wait wait wait you mean when is says that this film is based on true events its a true story?! wow glad you told me that films classified 'true stories' are just that
Have to say "inspired by" and "it's a true story" are 2 totally different things! Like the exorcist, you start with a schizo in crisis and then you turn that into a girl with the 360 degrees head turn etc... lol.
Not hating or bashing your video but honestly based on a true story means the movie is about that story such as the blind side or dolphin tale and there were a few films in there that defiantly are based off of true stories and some that sound very similar to the original story but I think a more appropriate title should of been 10 amazing movies you didn't know were inspired by true stories instead of based off of
There were samurai who were truly noble...and Lucas did partially base the Jedi off of them. But there was a time when the samurai were no more than mercenaries who wanted fame and renown. They collected the heads of their enemies, pillaged towns, and forced young men into their ranks. In some ways they were more like Sith. Besides I think that the Jedi were based more after a combination of samurai, Shaolin monks, and Templars rather then just one group.
What about a video about films which people think are based on true stories but aren't? I nominate Spinal Tap, The Blair Witch Project and The Da Vinci Code for starters.
Yeah the whole "Vader's helmet resembling a Samurai helmet" thing is false. The helmet and garb were originally meant to resemble the helmets worn by Nazi stormtroopers. In fact, the stormtroopers in the originals were meant to resemble Nazi stormtroopers, reinforcing the parallels between the war between the Empire and the Rebels with WWII.
Mentioning how the Jedi were compared to the samurai, which by and large is a fair assessment, Ironically this video neglected to mention the Last Samurai.... That was also based on historical events.
The Imperials in Star Wars were not Nazi's. They were how George Lucas viewed the American Government. Remember he did start writing it during Vietnam when people were fairly disillusioned with that particular Government. He even did it again in the prequels as Palpatine's rise to power was supposed to represent that of Richard Nixon. The only difference is that he was more subtle back in the seventies. It's all in the book How Star Wars Conquered the Universe.
What am interesting countdown. There are many other movies also, but the surely are a great collection of adventure tales, which adds to their appeal. In cold blood, schindlers list, etc are pretty obvious. It surprises me how many stories of the holocaust people don't know, and were not willing to believe people are capable of such heinous behavior , so until Eichman 's kidnapping /arrest is so important. By 1960 enough people finally started listening, and survivors felt they could speak out!
Maybe not a movie for everyone, but I Love You Phillip Morris was a good flick and was based on a true story. Some of the events seem so ridiculous, but are actually very true to fact. Look up a preview or trailer to know what you're getting yourself into, but do try and check it out!
War Games is based on an incident from 1979. A tape reel containing simulated attack data used as a training tool somehow got uploaded to the NORAD computer which made staff think there was a real attack. They were just about to wake up Jimmy Carter get authorization for a retaliatory strike that was ready to go.
You shouldn't be sacred, Chucky was also based off a true story. A rich German family had a maid that cursed one of the children's dolls with voodoo and the doll started appearing in places it shouldn't. Also I don't think the exorcist is based off what they said, I read somewhere that similar events occurred in a mental hospital (without all the internal bleeding and sh*t).
For note the "true story" the exorcist was based on was arguably more fiction then the movie. The ritual torture happened for sure but let's be honest.
SILENT RUNNING 1972 was based on the true story made intoa movie called RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP. Plus Freeman lowel weres a monks rob as a reference to Saint Francis. Later picked up by George Lucas for Ben Kenobi. And the robots were meant to represnt dogs, faithful servants. Notice how they obey you and never talk. Bruce dern who starred in it thought it to be the worst movie idea he'd ever heard and the worst film he'd been it(up to that point) until the movie was a hit and now he lists it as his favorite film.
"Based" on a true story would be things like Catch Me if you Can, Schindlers List, Erin Brokovich, A Beautiful Mind--these are movies "based on" true stories. The StormTroopers in Star Wars are "INSPIRED BY" Nazi Troops, Indiana Jones is "INSPIRED BY" various archaeologists , etc. Misleading title. Oh and the shark attacks weren't just in Beach Haven, they just started there.
samurai did not actually tend to help those in need.....they were actually basically japanese medieval knights aka bullies. both warriors had their codes bushido and chivalry but neither as a group tended to follow that code
How would you not know that The Sound of Music was based on real people? The real family has been interviewed several times by big news outlets usually with a special airing after the movie.
I've got to say, I was a little disappointed by "Catch me if you can"'s movie adaption. I read the book a few years earlier, and there are key points left out that make the book that much more interesting and enjoyable.
It was Heinrich Himler that was obsessed with ancient artifacts not Hitler, hitler was just interested in the idea of how it could benefit the nazi regime. I might be wrong but thats atleast what ive heard from more than just one source.
The video needs a graphic content warning. Star Wars is a bit of a stretch. It used many elements from real life but the basis of the story was fiction. There's also the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which was based on the real-life experiences of the author. The Sound of Music comes from a period around the 40s and 50s when many bibliographic musicals were made.
Several of these movies ANNOUNCE they are based on actual events before, during or after the movie while you're watching it - so the title is pretty silly.
Seth Rogen said that Superbad was based off of his life in high school and he started writing it while in high school. This should be on the list
Title says amazing movies

also with star wars, the empire-nazi parallels are so deep that Palpatine's rise to power is quite similar to Hitler's rise to power
but Hitler didn't have a lightsaber, which makes Palpatine at least 8954 times cooler. and that's almost......

I love how quickly you changed your mind in how to pronounce Ed Geins name in less than five seconds...
Jedi are actually based on Templar knights. A secret society of monk warriors during the crusades.
No theyre based on donkey dicks
Further proof of what I said is the original script of SW had "Jedi Templars" and that Operation Knightfall is basically order 66, elimination of the jedi(or templar)
Or they are just fictional characters.
+Taylor F. They're based on Samurai.
Or i dont care

Title should be "4 or 5 Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On True Stories, and a Few More You Probably Did"
Didn't know the movie Titanic was true. How did they have such good cameras back then? And how is Jack still alive? I see him in all kinds of movies. Still find it hard to believe it was a true event, with him still being alive. #illuminati
You. Are. Dumb. Its a recreation. It wasn't filmed in 1912
+Nuclearcupcake 0902 I don't think you are right. There is no way they built that boat, and killed all them people for a movie.
I live like 30 minutes away from where the exorcist actually to place in 😱😱😱😱
Uhhh, Catch me if You Can was very overtly touted as being based off of a true story. How could you NOT know?
Episode 7's Death Star planet speech scene made this pretty clear for Star Wars.
its star killer base, but you still know at least
Million subs baby

The story of Starship Troopers was based on a real war. When you're in war with another country, they're practically aliens to you.
6:09 I WOULD TOTALLY WATCH a Star Wars inspired Japanese samurai movie! That would be incredible!
Edit: They're toys that exist! "Star Wars Celebration, Tamashii Nations"
I didn't know that American sniper was based on a true story until that moment where you realise "OH FLIP HE'S ABOUT TO DIE!"
we all knew Goodfellas was based on true events... it at the beginning.
thanks for telling me about jaws. its not like i've been afraid already.
Star Wars: Based on a true story... All the stoners in the theater in 1977 spit out their joints like "WTF, seriously?!!"

am I the only one who noticed in the force awakened the troopers acted like nazis in that speech rally part
+killer sands Which kind of makes me wonder, why bother giving a political speech to a bunch of pre-programmed clones and conscripts?
banquo60615 lol.yes.
banquo60615 actually there not clones

I thought everyone knew the Imperial Army was based on Nazis and Samurai?..

I knew all ten were real life inspired films, but that's what I studied in college.
good take on what real life can be be good
Have to say "inspired by" and "it's a true story" are 2 totally different things! Like the exorcist, you start with a schizo in crisis and then you turn that into a girl with the 360 degrees head turn etc... lol.
In the space of 5 seconds you pronounce Ed Gein's name two different ways at 3:10. Decide whether it's "Geen" or "Gine", but don't use both.
As soon as I saw The Exorcist I noped out of the video lol
Star wars may have similarities but THAT DOESNT FUCKING MEAN ITS BASED ON A TRUE STORY
+AtomicD lol
+CloeForever101 I understand you like to do those things but its nothing for me! so i will have to turn down your offer.
'Influenced
yes it is, but it seems you earth people think stories that didn't happen in your universe didn't happen at all. this all happend in my universe
Really? Who didn't know that The Sound Of Music and Now You See Me where based on true stories?
title is incorrect
+xxplvb how?
+Francis Zealley star wars was not based on a true story it just took inspiration from real life counter parts

I already knew about the Star Wars part.
There were samurai who were truly noble...and Lucas did partially base the Jedi off of them. But there was a time when the samurai were no more than mercenaries who wanted fame and renown. If people don't know that Jaws was based on a true story they don't need to be on the internet.
What about a video about films which people think are based on true stories but aren't? I nominate Spinal Tap, The Blair Witch Project and The Da Vinci Code for starters.

+njintau Finally! Someone said the real thing!!!

Not true abignal was a legal lawyer as he actually passed the bar exam 3:55
Mentioning how the Jedi were compared to the samurai, which by and large is a fair assessment, Ironically this video neglected to mention the Last Samurai.... That was also based on historical events.

Anyone who did a quick internet search on the sound of music could find that it was adapted from a play that fictionalized real life events.
What am interesting countdown. There are many other movies also, but the surely are a great collection of adventure tales, which adds to their appeal. Before I watch this anyone in there right mind knows the galactic empire from Star Wars is related to Nazi Empire.
Been a while since the old commentator was on a video, did he leave SR?
I dont know but i hope he didnt
Surprised to see The Sound of Music here, its very common knowledge that it's based on a true story.
Most of the ones on this list were
I knew a few of these beforehand it's just its one of those things you hear enough from an early age that there's no not knowing it!
Maybe not a movie for everyone, but I Love You Phillip Morris was a good flick and was based on a true story. Some of the events seem so ridiculous, but are actually very true to fact. Look up a preview or trailer to know what you're getting yourself into, but do try and check it out!
Who the hell didn't know that the exorcist and Jaws were based real life news stories.
If Star Wars is "based on a true story" because it has a few cultural references, then any fantasy book or movie is.
Great vid ScreenRant, just ignore these haters 😉
While I enjoyed the video, I'd say that most of these were _inspired_ by true stories rather than based on them.
War Games is based on an incident from 1979. A tape reel containing simulated attack data used as a training tool somehow got uploaded to the NORAD computer which made staff think there was a real attack. They were just about to wake up Jimmy Carter get authorization for a retaliatory strike that was ready to go.
Wait............. The Exorcise was based off a real story............. Yeah i'm not gonna sleep for the next 10 years....
Tom Hanks really is Woody. Now he's a real boy like Pinocchio. It's the plot of Toy Story 5.
so basicly this was just the better the film the higher it was. cool
For note the "true story" the exorcist was based on was arguably more fiction then the movie. The ritual torture happened for sure but let's be honest.
At 0:54, it almost looks like Dominic Cooper's Howard Stark!
The Vietnam War also inspired Star Wars.
Oh and the shark attacks weren't just in Beach Haven, they just started there.
samurai did not actually tend to help those in need.....they were actually basically japanese medieval knights
aka bullies.
both warriors had their codes bushido and chivalry but neither as a group tended to follow that code
0:07 Nice globe programming.
Star Wars is also based off of the rise, fall and aftermath of the Roman Empire.
Edit: Emperor Palpatine is also heavily based on Julius Caesar
How would you not know that The Sound of Music was based on real people? The real family has been interviewed several times by big news outlets usually with a special airing after the movie.
The Star Wars - Nazi parallels are even more apparent in TFA, like Hux's speech being similar to Nuremburg.
The original Star Wars trilogy was actually based on World War II.
Why you no have Captain America on your background for your channel thoooo. #TEAMCAP
what's the movie at 6:12?
I miss the old Screenrant 😩🤖
I've got to say, I was a little disappointed by "Catch me if you can"'s movie adaption. I read the book a few years earlier, and there are key points left out that make the book that much more interesting and enjoyable.

I would add "Rocky" to the list; it was based on an underdog who got a title shot against Muhammad Ali.
Everyone knows that the sound of music is based on a real story, it says it in the movie towards the end
I knew that CMIUC with Leo is naser on a true story, also I knew that SW franchise is INSPIRED by a true story...
Bruh goodfellas and catch me if you can tell you in the movie they are based on true events. The fuck you guys doing?
For some reason Darth Vader's mask sort of looks like a German Stahlhelm.
The video needs a graphic content warning.
Star Wars is a bit of a stretch. It used many elements from real life but the basis of the story was fiction.
There's also the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which was based on the real-life experiences of the author.

The Big Lebowski was a true story too!
In Star Wars the Jedi are the good guys. The samurai worked for the government. Jedi are more like ninjas than samurai.
There are so many things wrong with your statement that I don't even know how to break it down for you... lol
im from new Jersey. all of us here know jaws. jaws wasn't even a great white. he was a bullshark. they just wanted to make him jump
These movies weren't based on true stories they were inspired by true stories
When you watch a Horror movie and this sentence pops up at the end..."Based on a true story."
Who didn't know Goodfellas was based on a true story?
