- 岐阜提灯は、18世紀の中頃に、岐阜で作られたのが始まりとされ、近くに原材料の和紙、竹が豊富にあったことから発展しました。
This craft originated in the 17th century. Chochin is a Japanese traditional lantern made of a paper covering on a thin bamboo frame. A candlelight is placed inside for illumination.

The delicacy of this art makes these lamps treasures
Handicraft are not only craft, it's all about the artist passion, emotion.
Sometime we take crafts just for granted, but if we look closely we can found the life, the dream the perfection of that artist.
Exactly
In Japan, artists are respected greatly. Unlike, India where we are treated like daily wage labourers.
I spent a week in Gifu in 1998 and while exploring the city found a small lantern shop. I still have two of the lanterns I bought and love them dearly.
Thank you!
Are they easy to maintain? Being made of paper don't they absorb a lot of dust?
@@carlosc3768 I haven't been able to find a suitable place to hang them in a long time so no noticeable accumulation. When I did hang them, they were fairly easy to clean by taking them down and dusting them with a soft brush.
I just love to see how Japanese people put so much care, attention to detail to create anything and their passion to live with small happiness. Respect.
It must be a great honor to own one of these beautiful lanterns
Thank you!
Yes. I didn't realize that the framework was just temporary. In and of itself it was a masterpiece. I hang it as it is.

やっぱり日本の美術だね
What a pleasure to watch birth of this fragile beauty 😍💖🤗 Respect and Love
japan is the land of so many arts, culture and heritage.. we always admire you.. love from india :)
I am constantly amazed by the dedication and hard work the Japanese artisans put into their craft. The combination of simple shapes and masterful execution reminds me of the natural world and how often the most basic of solutions is the most elegant and also the most difficult to execute. Beautifully done.
super artist Japan 🏯🎨🏮
Their arts encompasses the real essence of Japanese tradition, elegance, passion and mastery of their culture and identity. Amazingly gorgeous!
It's heart-warming seeing different generations keeping the beautiful craft alive. Great job on the video too.
Wow. Gorgeous. So much delicate craftsmanship. It's on my list to own this beautiful lantern. One day in Japan I will enter this store. Thank you for this movie. Without this story I wouldn't know this beauty exists.
I love Japanese, chinese, craft,

Very beautiful...Japan and Japanese are in my heart.
Thank you!
Japan is being underappreciated for the arts of craft and handmade items. it beautiful in what they do
They do 中国 tradition like nobody els but the 中国人.
not just japan but pretty much everywhere in the world, mass production has ruined many beautiful handicrafts around the world.
lol that would be china instead of japan
Lol, no, they are famous for their quality craftsmanship and well made things. It's just very expensive so many people don't buy it, making it difficult for those craftsman to survive.
@@SkyeAten Um this is very old comment, do apologize for my wording but what I'm saying is that people in this world don't acknowledge or appreciate handmade crafts more. What these crafters do is time consuming. Not only a problem with just craft but any other forms of art is being look down upon in world as job because they are not their to see the whole process and think how we got there is not easy. Being an artist myself, it's hard. But beside consumerism and money and what it worth, I just want people to understand the beauty for what they do and why they do the things they do is truly beautiful to look at. Because in the end of day, we only see the final product for what it is.
So beautiful
Thank you!

Love and respect from kashmir
I love watching these. In England and the rest of the U.K. we are struggling - but succeeding- to hang on to our traditional crafts that are so much a part of our country’s psyche. These are beautiful, handmade so of course I want several to hang in my garden in the summer - IF we have a summer ☺️☺️☺️
You had William Morris.
ForUploadin oh lovely, I think you misunderstood my comment. We had plenty of designers, still do, I was thinking more of our traditional crafts like Dry Stone Walling, Thatching, Weaving, Wood Carving, Pot Making, that we struggled for so long? to hang onto. They are all making a bit of a comeback which is great. As far as designers are concerned William Morris is one of my very favourites because of his social conscience and sense of community as well as his wonderful design work.
Oh my God I would love a big one with just pearl white chrysanthemums !
Such an amazing craft! The forms are amazing, the paper printing, the assembly...

ありがとうございます!Thank you!
They make it look so easy... But that is some serious Skill!! How he could place that wire in seconds and perfectly spaced... And the detailed painting work. And the fact that they repeat the process a few hundred times a day... And how expensive messing up would be. Or embarrassing if you mess up, especially if you are the last guy in the pipeline... Wow.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful art! : )
