Great video and good advice. Some people say that you do not need to tippex mark the pulleys if you lock the crankshaft and cam pulleys but it is still possible to put on a new belt a tooth out on the idler pulley side. Marking the belt and pulley and then transferring the marks to the new belt guarantees you get it spot on. You obviously do not need to tippex mark those pulleys without teeth (tensioner and idler). These are being replaced anyway. The offside engine mount will need to be removed by supporting the sump with a trolley jack.
good stuff at 76 years i am gonna have a go at that on my 2003 pug 307 1.4hdi wish me luck . I have just done the front and rear suspension bushes , handbrake cable and front and rear discs.m Oh and the oil and filter change it was black as the ace of spades .. doing the thermostat today . what a bummer it cost a fortune .
after watching this i did my Peugeot 208 1.4HDI 2013 with 72800 on the clock and to be honest the belt and pulleys i took of was in very good condition with very little ware on the belt no cracks pulley's and water pump still very smooth i would say would easy do a 100k
Diesel pump doesnt need timing. Just loock camshaft with drillbit when check crankshaft aligment by Eye, put the belt, recheck aligment. remove drillbit. Put crankshaft Bolt alone, turn the engine, check again, its done,
@@chris425amp7 I tried to search online but no where does it say the diesel pump needs timing. It makes sense too since its just pumping fuel like water. There is no separate communication with each cylinder
Can you tell me, why is it important when aligning timing marks, not to turn cranckshaft bolt counter clockwise. I've missed them just a bit by rotating clockwise and had to turn back. I didn't fell like going complete turn again. But then I read in Hayness we should turn only in one direction? Thank you.
nemanja dzombic hi mate it's all to do with you can cause a lot of damage if the belt is on and you turn it the wrong way the belt can actually come off tension and slip you might not see this and when you go to start the car the timing can be off
Thank you for your answer. I turned the crankshaft sprocket bolt several turns and it seems ok. And I started the engine up and it's running fine on idle. I turned it in wrong direction just a few degree so I hope I didn't cause damage.
nemanja dzombic you should be fine turning it back a few degrees isn't a problem it's turning it the wrong way for full resolution with the timing belt on when it will cause you a problem
Great video. I have a 2008 Peugeot 207 1.4 hdi with 64,000 miles. Don't think the belts ever been changed. Would it be ok for another couple of thousand miles (December to march)? Find it strange that Peugeot advise to change a timing belt every 10 years or 140,000 miles, whatever comes first. They also advise oil changes every 20,000 miles which sounds extreme to me. What do you reckon mate?
grant marshall I can only tell you what I do I change the oil in my car or should I say I do a full service every 5000 miles change a timing belt every four years or 80000 miles whatever comes first that's what I do and that's all I can really say on this matter manufacturers have their own things but that's what I do
I have a 2005 Peugeot 206 1.4 hdi diesel with 210,000 kilometres on the clock. there is no record of any change of belt but belt condition looks new. what do you think? I'm in The south of France hence kilometres.
jobs work on some engines you can get away with using drill bits and things like that but you want some sort of locking tool as it would make your life so much easier you can buy cheaper brands of locking tools out there if you have to spend a couple of quit and save you breaking your engine I know which way I would be going
Listen to the man... fit a kit, I was the tight twat who years ago just fitted a belt to a Frontera, the idler lasted half a mile !! Lesson learned....
I have changed a belt on a peu206 1.4 HDi engine. You can put eniwhere the belt on the Fuel pump pulley, the pump has no rotation sensor like the new TDi engins (1.6; 2.0). it was wery easy. Thanks
On the make and model of year I show in the video it has everything I say it does I got the information off three different sources and they all said the same thing

The tensioner is manual as you have to tention it anticlock wise also there is a i locking point on the front crank pulley
Is the 1.4 hdi an interference engine ? .
Got one with a cambelt failure .

Luis Rodríguez yea everybody says the same.
I'm changing my belt now, and there is no hole for the diesel pump at 12 oclock. But there is a over sized hole at 6oclock.
Not sure what to do

bodgit and leggit garage thanks mate, stay safe, it's just started snowing in Ireland. Small diesel engines are good at climbing icy hills ☺️

The diesel injector pump does not have a pin at 12 o'clock

@@bodgitandleggitgarage Thanks for the reply. I am just wondering does this pump have to be timed? It just pumps Diesel like the water pump.
@@bodgitandleggitgarage would appreciate it if you could share the sources with me so i could read
Then three sources cost me €5,000 a year they are not free
