    Thanks bodgit & leggit, after watching this vid a few times I finally plucked up the courage to do my very first timing belt, purchased the belt kit for my scudo van & antifreeze for under £100, the garage quoted me £300 + vat. Took my time & everything worked out just fine, also did the glow plugs,fuel filter & re sealed the rocker cover all in one go!This video gave me the confidence on a task I would not normally have undertaken, cheers again.

    Got the wrong timingbeltkit send to me in the proces.
    Driving the van to the other side of europe and back whit a new belt-kit feels secure!!!

    I remember when i was 16 and an intern doing exactly this job on exactly this car. Was a nightmare when you don't know much about it so it was a scary job indeed. Fantastic video btw, very well illustrated and explained.

    You are a legend my friend, the way you explain everything you give the confidence to people to have a go at it themselves, great point about the silicon cracking blocks yes it does happen when you tightening a bolt with silicon trapped behind it, you used no silicon on the water pump that part scares me I always put just a bit of silicon for assurance but I guess it's ok not to use it if the surface on the engine block is nice and smooth, enough said great video mate thanks for sharing

    Very good video! This one is really easy to remember. I watched it 3 times until it sank in. I had to replace the head gasket on my Berlingo 1.9, so I replaced the timing belt kit as well. It all did not seem like a rocket science after all. The hardest bit in my opinion was to strip it all off and then put it all together, not leaving too many bolts behind. :) That really took the most of the time. I could not start the engine for quite a long time. Obviously because of completely empty fuel lines and filter and weak battery. Once it started it works like a bit smoother than before now. Thanks for such a good step by step video tutorial!

    At the risk of starting an argument, I have been reading the comments and I feel I need to say this because I have first hand experience with this model in Peugeot main dealer and when I was doing this job we removed the front panel (node cone) of the van and we removed the engine completely from the van. It was time consuming. When I questioned the method I was told it was "procedure" . . . . . Complete rubbish, its a money making racket.
    The lad in the video has cut the job time in half while still maintaining a standard of work. I feel its mechanics like him that provide a better service than the main dealer and probably at half the price. I really don't see the problem with this how-to video?
    And just another point if I can, I have never ever torqued any bolts other than the obvious, (head bolts, shell baring etc)

    I agree that on older designs like that Peugeot XUD you can get away with using paint to make marks, although a couple of bolts through the cam and pump pulleys locks everything nicely anyway. However, on newer designs, the use of correct timing tools is critical. Some of the tool kits seem expensive for what they are, but they are a damn site cheaper than a set of valves or replacement engine!

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  7 лет назад

      ivor biggun yes mate unfortunately some of the tools for modern cars are very expensive but I have seen you can get some copy timing belt kits that seem to be quite reasonable but don't know how far you can trust them thanks a lot for watching

    Nice video ! There is a mark for the crankshaft, in between the starter and water pip housing on the block (standing in front of the car) there is a 8mm hole to lock crank.

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  4 года назад

      Yes mate there is but there is a big problem with doing it that way the bottom crank can still move it doesn't lock it into place the way I do it actually locks into place doing it that way if you are not careful you can be out a couple of teeth

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  5 лет назад

      Hi mate there's a couple of different ones but it should be fairly simple take off once you look at the whole fan belt tensioner you should see a big bowl going straight through this will take the whole thing off

      +The Savage Garage well according to your logic if I was doing everything wrong I would not be in business very long because all the cars will be coming back to me if you work in any garage they do exactly the same as me

    • @TheSavageGarage
      @TheSavageGarage 8 лет назад

      +bodgitand leggit that doesn't mean it's right because you do it, you should torque every engine and suspension bolt, it's just cutting corners. Any decent mechanic will tell you the same

      Is there a timing mark on the flywheel? What clock? Do I have to take off the manifold to bleed the injectors? 1 by 1 or all at once?

    • @adamprice9214
      @adamprice9214 4 года назад

      I'm at the putting together stage, its fired up with manifold off but sounds really noisy (more so than I think it should) a mechanic told me to disassemble with locking off the cam but we couldn't find a mark for the bottom pulley so now we're not sure how to line it up 🤷‍♀️

    • @donno1967
      @donno1967 4 года назад +1

      There is a mark for the flywheel if standing in front of the car in between starter and water pipe housing there is a 8mm hole to lock flywheel

    • @adamprice9214
      @adamprice9214 4 года назад

      @@donno1967 cheers mate.. I actually removed the starter and there was a hole in the bell housing where you could slide a drill bit in and rotate the flywheel until the drill engaged in the hole.. timing was actually 1 tooth out. I'd started it but luckily not done any damage 🙈😃
