In so many ways those box chevy impala/caprice were the perfect cars for their purpose. And drove & handled so smooth. Too bad they’re starting to get scarce.
Whoa Nelley, a box that rocks (or used to). No, that trunk lid is from a 1987 four-door and the car is a 1986 two-door. Both cars were 305 V8 equipped. That's why you have to check BOTH the VIN on the dash and the SPID label to see what you've got. With that from the top: We got the (dash) VIN and we win: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, BN47 for Caprice Classic two-door coupe, H for 5.0L (305 CID) V8 with four-barrel, RPO code "LG4" aka "sneezy and wheezy", 2 is a check digit, G for the 1986 model year, X for Fairfax, KS assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Fairfax plant that assembled this car closed in early 1987 and the current Fairfax II plant that still operates today replaced it. The 1986 was either code 19 or 41 Black exterior paint. We got the (trunk from a 1987 model year vehicle) SPID, glad you did: 1G1 for US-made Chevrolet, BN51 for four-door Caprice Classic sedan, H for 5.0L (305 CID) V8 with four-barrel, RPO code "LG4" aka "S&W", 9 is a check digit, H for the 1987 model year, X for Fairfax, KS assembly and the rest is the production sequence. We got the SPID, glad you did: AU3 for power locks, A31 for power windows, A90 for remote deck release, B34 and B35 for front and rear floor mats, CD4 for delay wiper system, C49 for rear window defogger, C60 for AC, FAI for Fairfax, KS assembly, GM8 for 2.56 rear axle ratio, K34 for cruise control, K64 for 115 amp alternator, LG4 for 305 V8 with four-barrel, MD8 for THM700R4 four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, N33 for tilt wheel, N91 for simulated wire wheel covers, V73 for US/Canada vehicle statement, 25U for Light Blue exterior paint, all of the 27 codes are for Medium Sapphire Blue interior trim and seat belts, 1BN69 for Chevrolet (1) Caprice Classic (BN), four-door sedan (69), among other codes. Whoa Nelley, 1986 and hit the bricks. 5.0 and gotta go. 305 is not so fine. That's it, time to quit. RPO code "LG4" is soon to be no more. Model code "BN47" is going to Heaven. B body looking very shoddy. Going to be flat and that's that. We need (both) VINs for the win and when you get the SPID, we're glad that you did. When you get the buck (tag) we're in luck. Going to get squished and all of the B body faithful, for sure Benny, many here, and yup, the Google Man indeed are going to be very, very, very, very, very, very pissed.
I remember there was a two door Impala with no vinyl top black in color where I live and I always liked them. Like to have one and install a 396 turbo 400 and a 12 bolt positraction. That would be enough for me.
A rare find indeed. These later ('86- '87) Caprice 2-doors are hard to find. I always liked the look of the '86 when they still had the seal beam headlights. Thanks as always for sharing your auto finds.

Rare Caprice. 2-door Landau. Shame she is so beat up for any takers to restore her. She was nice in her heyday. Shame she is relegated to be picked over before the crusher.
I almost thought this one had the aero style back glass, but I'm not an expert on the box chevy's. They were everywhere when I was younger, and I never thought they'd be desirable, even though there were a few in my city that were warmed over. My dad's close friend (who's in his 70's now) has owned a bunch over the years, mostly becaue he doesn't want anything modern with EFI etc. He's also had a bunch of squarebodies, but he's not a car guy, so they're all stock. His most recent one is a low mile late 70's 3/4 ton 454. Possibly a camper's special. It's mint! I'd love to do an interview style video with him, but I doubt he'd go for it. Same with the little old lady across the street from me, who has a base model 77-78 Firebird. It's just a 305 and possibly repainted, but still in great shape!
Why not give them a try? Never know until you ask. Whatcha got to lose? They may not think they have a "special" vehicle, and they may be quite surprised, maybe even flattered, should you ask! I have a '96 Fleetwood, and it's all stock as well. Should someone, especially a younger person, were to aproach me regarding my car, I'd gush w/flattery! 😂 That's just me, as I love to see the younger gen getting into older cars, as well. Hope you consider these pounts, and get those "interviews!" I'd love to see what you find! 👍 Good luck! 🫡😎🎤🎥
