I have none of the adjustable screen , tubeless rim, electronic suspension, tft screen .. a 2019 standard manual takes me to places I like just the same with fun and enjoyment. The Africa Twin regardless of year model will always be a great adventure bike.
😂 are you telling me that you can go places without apple play, built in gps, Bluetooth, etc??? I don't believe you because all the "experts" tell me opposite
The 2024 AT is a great upgrade, finally honda have fitted tubeless wheels (which will benefit atleast 90% of owners, who spend most of their riding on roads). Out of all the big ADV bikes I’ve owned or spent a decent time on, the Honda showa electronic suspension is the best. So with those new additions and cruise control, an adjustable screen and Apple CarPlay, the AT is the top of the pile for me now 👍🏻
@@TheZakkmylde And it appears that Canada only gets red color in the ABS(base), but it's growing on me. As for ES, I've never had it before and I'm an old dirt biker used to dialing in my own suspension, so I'm fine without it and will gain from 4.4 lbs less weight. Set up your suspension for off road without extra payload and then you will only need quick preload change when you add payload.
Thanks for your very well-balanced review. Just watched it again and the following thoughts have surfaced for me. The 2024 Africa Twin is an incredible improvement on the release of the 2020 model when it was upgraded to the current 1,084cc motor. The torque has increased and is much smoother and more measured in its deployment from zero to high rpm. It really is a pearler of a twin motor with a great traditional 'twin' sound with the upgraded 2024 muffler. I'm a fan and a Honda tragic from way back and can hardly wait to own one. I would very much like to buy the '25 model next year. HOWEVER, Honda will NOT be getting my money until at least some or all of the following glitches/negatives are resolved: 1) The atrociously long time it takes to boot the TFT screen and THEN it requires a touch on an 'OK' button before giving you access. WTF Honda?! No other manufacturers spoil the ride experience like this so WTF Honda?! 2) The switchgear needs an overhaul - simplify it AND include backlighting 3) An easy way to get the seat height BELOW 800mm. Please don't try to tell me it can't be done Honda. I'm 5'6" (167cm) and I would like to be able to flatfoot. 795mm seat height is a worthy goal Honda. 4) For the top-of-the-line model (mainly road use owners) ditch those ridiculous spoked wheels and give us some tasteful forged cast aluminium wheels. Cleaning spokes is an absolute nightmare. We already have enough cleaning with the chain drive, so, please Honda - some alloys. 5) For two-up touring it most definitely needs some more power. They should either bump the capacity to 1250cc for another 30hp OR, preferably, finally release the supercharged model on which they hold a Japanese patent and as such has been in development since 2019. One would think that simply in the name of competition with the Multistradas, GS1300s, Triumphs et al, Honda would want to increase the power at least somewhat. It is great for low speed stuff but 2-up with luggage on the highway it does need quite a bit more. Please! (from all reports the supercharger design is for low-mid range torque - not meant to be a high-rev Kawasaki H2 competitor). 6) Not mandatory for my purchase but, with DCT, a reverse gear for parking such a heavy baby would be handy. You'd only need 'impulse power' Scotty :-) 7) Does that great sounding rear muffler really have to be the size of a boat anchor? So there's my list of gripes for a bike I love a lot. My wishlist. How about it Honda - all for '25?
Couldn't agree more. Lots of people complaining about the 19" front on the Adventure Sport, but in 2024 Honda have simply given you the best of both worlds. I have a 2023 Adventure Sport, but if I was going again, it would be the base model with ES and I would probably stay with the DCT as well. Maintains the offroad focus of the base model (without compromising it in any way), but with options for all the goodies that were only previously available on the Adventure Sport.
I'm about to buy an africa twin. Maybe you can help me with your opinion. Should I get a 2023 adv sports or a 2024 base model? I like the 21 inch wheel.
More power to you bro, that's super fantastic that you still ride! I bought the 2024 and it's fantastic, but I still love my 2016. Truth be told, I only need one, and the refinement of the 2024 is palpable.
Finally, I get to see the Base model. I bought one in Canada and it’s coming in May but nobody’s making videos about the base. It’s always about the adventure. I really wish you touched more on the windscreen because I’m 6 foot tall so I’m curious if it’s adequate enough sports.
Great video… I own a 2021 DCT standard Africa Twin and was close to pulling the trigger on a DCT Adventure sport last year… so glad I didn’t the new standard bike with DCT And electronic suspension is definitely going to be my next bike… not that fussed about the adventure sports bigger tank as mine gets 200-220 miles per the tank anyway
Really like the tubeless wheel setup and the rims look amazing! Of the three colours I prefer the white and if possible would spend the extra for the suspension upgrade. But would settle for the base model.
Jumping off my desert x and riding my mates 2023 AT I really liked it, very smooth engine and comfortable , I think when I trade in my desert X ,I'll be getting a honda as I got big trips planned next year and the twin be alot better for the big journeys than the desert x
Couldn’t agree more……but I felt that way in 2016 when it first came out….then again in 2018 with the ADV Sports model. Honda blew it in 2020 until this updated 2024 IMHO, seemed too unfocused until this model. I could go on but aside from a wee more power and less weight in the future, this new ones in basic form would be my pic. Nice review Bob. 🖖

Undoubtedly the best looking adventure bike, 100%. Finally tubeless wheels and Apple CarPlay is superb, just one thing Honda, where do I put my phone? Bluetooth dongle works brilliantly with the AT’s Apple CarPlay, why the hell do all the other manufacturers fit huge tft’s, and not utilise Apple CarPlay and Android alternative. 👍
A TFT without CarPlay rally is missing the mark in 2024. IMO Honda has stolen a march on everyone when it comes to actual liveability there with the dual display. Very, very well done.
Shame we don't get the NT 1100 in the U.S. would be a great commuter/touring bike. (Commute in the U.S. can be 15 miles each way or 50+) I agree that the Africa Twin is good looking for an ADV, second favorite would be a Desert X.
I’m considering trading my Tenere 700 for one of these exact models. I do love the Tenere but most of my riding is on the road where sometimes I feel the Teneres 72hp is a little lacking. Time for a test ride I think
I thinking the same! Had the tenere fourth season. Es But i Don’t know about dct? Must try ! Love the tenere But 80% road i think the AT is a better bike🇸🇪
Thanks for another awesome review. I just can't get my head around the 19" front on the Adventure. Down here in Africa and probably Aus we need fuel range. So the Adventure model would be the default for proper overlanding. BMW or Honda, same option for both. Who love fuel bladders 😮 So why would you buy the larger fuel tank bike if you not planning to do proper overlanding? If you gonna do proper overlanding you need a 21" front. This is the same as Land Rover fitting out a old Defender with road tyres and suspension as factory and trying to sell you a Discovery as the most capable model.
I go with my friend who has a new AT on all the dirt roads, off road camping...I prefer my Ducati Multi V4S which does everything the AT does but i feel better. 🤭🤫 Dont tell him that. We both dropped our bikes cause he had the bright idea to stop on a steep incline, i was to close and he ended up rolling back into me taking us both down like bowling pins. With all my tech bits nothing broke and everything still worked. Got a few scrapes which i like having on the bike showing everyone what a bad ass i am. ;) Im bias.
When i selected my adventure bike i made sure i rode them all. And i did. I rode the AT, GS, Tiger's, Tenere, i opted not to do KTM because i loath the way they look. If it were the best id hate walking up to it. I took the Duc because it was the most comfortable ergo, AND ride quality. Super soft if you want, nice and hard if you need it, fantastic sport which none of the others offer, and capable off roading. Like i said i ride off road and on w/ this lots of moto camping, it has the chops to do it all. Heated grips AND seat, radar cruise, quick shifter, rev match i mean it does do it all. The others did some or most but not all of that. On top of that the next best GS was not as comfortable in the ride quality! Im splitting hairs here but if I'm dropping 30k on a bike I'm gonna SPLIT HAIRS. Brand aside i was biased and came away buying the duc and loving it for it.
It’s also the best sounding adv bike out there. Of course any parallel twin with a 270° crank is. I have a 2017 still absolutely love it. I have an Ohlins shock and Ohlins internals in the forks but it makes me wonder how easy electronic suspension is to service. I’m debating getting a new AT in the next year or two.
the best layout i've seen on tvt is ducati v4; Triumph is way too clumsy, menu items list; to impress. BMW is great also . Love the digital tach of the triumph So ezz compred to the scrolling bar !
Honestly it is great bike . In my opinion not for heavy off-road. Great that now has 19. Inch. I have done on older one more then 150000 km and it is good . As I mentioned to expensive i case fall. Crash bars help if you just drop it.
The problem with the Africa Twin is its market positioning while not being a midle weight Adventure having a 1100cc and not a big one having 100bhp. But I reckon it's just perfect and it would be my pick in the whole Adventure market no doubt!
Off the stand, the bike is so top heavy. That fact has always put me off, the otherwise brilliant Africa Twin. As a side note, that tripod on your back, whilst riding, is not a good idea, being a big liability, for back injuries, if you have a fall. Thanks, for your excellent reviews.
Hi. If you must to choose in between DCT or electronic suspension what you choose? I ask this because with two future together the price increase to much! Great job I love your channel!
What would help is when you mention your length when you test a motorcycle so that people can better compare. Make it a standard thing with every video you do?
My biggest issue with all these bikes is long term what will the Tech be like after countless dirt road vibrations, falls, water, dirt, dust I generally keep my bikes 10 years will the Tech and instrument cluster hold up to the abuse for that long?? Can anyone answer that??
Ye I can answer that, I have my Africa twin 1100 since 2020, I have clocked 60k miles on it, everything works still as the day I bought it 4 years ago. All the tech and electronics work , it's been through lots of rainy days so it has a few rust spots but nothing that is of any concern, mostly paint chipping off. I dropped it in mud a few times, not too much cause I didn't really take it through mud like a dirt bike but did many gravels and soft dirt roads, many many motorways miles and lots of city ride too. That's an average of 15k miles a year on it, it's bulletproof.
The big question: Should I switch from my 2023 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT to a African Twin? We are planning a trip from Gran Canaria, Morocco and up through Europe to Denmark.
"Look at the chassis....." Just NOT too closely. You may notice the horrible welds and areas COMPLETLY missed during the corrosion protection process. Honda is a shell of the company it ONCE was.
How have the Honda version of the perimeter tubeless spoked wheels held up on the AS model? I always wanted this on my 2016 and then experienced very early failure on the european bike that I replaced it with that had the perimeter spoke design. Are Honda's tubeless spoke wheels up to serious offroading?
@simonportlock586 after converting my Africa Twin to tubeless using an Outex Kit I did just that. Luckily I never had to use it. I still preferred a quick plug and go that tubeless gives me and kept the tube as an emergency measure only. With this new Africa Twin and its perimeter spoke design, my concern stands with the easily damaged wheel. They can be expensive, as I have learned the hard way.
So does the electronic suspension give you automatic height adjustment? As I’m 5’8 “ that would be pretty handy. Previously owned a Honda XLV750 with shaft drive.
Fantastic bike, but its probably coming to an end for this "generation" AT? Just guessing, but since the upgrades for 2024 its gonna be some years before a new AT. Im waiting hopefully for a bigger engine upgrade.
The bike is more than amazing, but there's something else I'd like to ask you: What is the name of the model of boots you are using at 2:28? Thank you so much for your time and answer.
If you want that tri colour version, you are forced by Honda to buy the ES version for nearly £2000 extra... it's not offered on the base model so this was a deciding factor in my decision to not buy one
If you hold the back button for 5 seconds, you can connect CarPlay to the screen without the need for a headset connected. If I’m just wanting to use Sat Nav that’s what I do.
I did a 5 day advanced riding course through my job as a first responder, I can vouch for the value of receiving training, it made me a much better rider after 30 odd years on the road. Dont be the rider who thinks they know everything, there is always room for improvement. And its kinda fun, tooling around on bikes with a bunch of like minded people.
I have a 2021 and I have to say the thing that I notice the most is the stock suspension. The front forks "dive" under front braking. Does it feel the same with the 2024 model?

Off the stand, the bike is so top heavy. That fact has always put me off, the otherwise brilliant Africa Twin. As a side note, that tripod on your back, whilst riding, is not a good idea, being a big liability, for back injuries, if you have a fall. Thanks, for your excellent reviews.
higher ground Clearance gives *beneficial higher center of gravity = better handling above walking speed
On my list of ADV to purchase. Wish it had the gold wheels tho.
thanks for the review bob. but i still prefer the 21 over 19. will wait for the next model with the 21 incher
The only one with 19's it's the adventure sport
He says this bike has a 21" front wheel.
Can the ride modes be changed on the fly?
Yes indeed.
Hi. If you must to choose in between DCT or electronic suspension what you choose? I ask this because with two future together the price increase to much! Great job I love your channel!
DCT.
thank you
I would say es
Wow, these are badass. I've never heard of them until now
Is this the one that has a lower seat height? That was my main reason for not test riding previous models.
can you give us more detail on this :)
I wish they wouldn't break up the AFRICA TWIN name on the fairing. It's like a broken puzzle. Now I would go with the optioned base model too.
Lol
Bummer that that the US market cannot get the Electronic Suspension on the base Africa Twin, only available on the Adventure Sports in ‘24
What would help is when you mention your length when you test a motorcycle so that people can better compare. Make it a standard thing with every video you do?
I have 2023 dct ...i love it willdo dakar any day ..
I love how you brits say sashi for chassis
Nice
Too bad the US spec requires the adventure sports version for the e-suspension.
My biggest issue with all these bikes is long term what will the Tech be like after countless dirt road vibrations, falls, water, dirt, dust I generally keep my bikes 10 years will the Tech and instrument cluster hold up to the abuse for that long?? Can anyone answer that??
I would imagine none of us can answer that seeing as none of us have a crystal ball.
Those tires for ATAS are super loud!
It's nice that you have a helmet for every riding style?
you missed, you can have dct. its brilliant. imho
Yeah, the DCT is the largest selling point. With DCT, this is the best commuter bike I've ever owned.
best bike ever!what is that helmet?
hole pluggers on off road tires are a terrible idea. As long as you can stay on good asphalt after patching, hole pluggers are acceptable.
The big question: Should I switch from my 2023 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT to a African Twin?
We are planning a trip from Gran Canaria, Morocco and up through Europe to Denmark.
Only improvement worthwhile over my '21 Standard with DCT I miss are the new tubeless rims. I HATE tubes!!!
Would really love Honda to make a 1300cc shaft driven adv bike
I am not familiar with shaft driven bikes. What would be the advantage behind it?
@@ryanfrancis5423 less cleaning and maintenance. I've never ridden one but hate dealing with a chain
"Look at the chassis....."
Just NOT too closely. You may notice the horrible welds and areas COMPLETLY missed during the corrosion protection process.
Honda is a shell of the company it ONCE was.
how about a review of another adventure bike like Xadv and The CRF300 Rally?
How about air filter access? Same locations? Easier or harder?
How have the Honda version of the perimeter tubeless spoked wheels held up on the AS model? I always wanted this on my 2016 and then experienced very early failure on the european bike that I replaced it with that had the perimeter spoke design. Are Honda's tubeless spoke wheels up to serious offroading?
Carry tubes and tools when going on an adventure on an adventure bike
@simonportlock586 after converting my Africa Twin to tubeless using an Outex Kit I did just that. Luckily I never had to use it. I still preferred a quick plug and go that tubeless gives me and kept the tube as an emergency measure only. With this new Africa Twin and its perimeter spoke design, my concern stands with the easily damaged wheel. They can be expensive, as I have learned the hard way.
What color is better in person?Tricolor like this or red
So does the electronic suspension give you automatic height adjustment? As I’m 5’8 “ that would be pretty handy. Previously owned a Honda XLV750 with shaft drive.
Fantastic bike, but its probably coming to an end for this "generation" AT? Just guessing, but since the upgrades for 2024 its gonna be some years before a new AT. Im waiting hopefully for a bigger engine upgrade.
Hi sir can make a comparison between the honda africa twin and ducati desert x thx
The bike is more than amazing, but there's something else I'd like to ask you: What is the name of the model of boots you are using at 2:28? Thank you so much for your time and answer.
Icon 1000 Elsinore :)
My man, where is the Motobob video on the gsx 8r??
If you want that tri colour version, you are forced by Honda to buy the ES version for nearly £2000 extra... it's not offered on the base model so this was a deciding factor in my decision to not buy one
Why do I think that Honda has a 19inch front tire on the 2024 model? I have checked and the Adventure Sports model has a 19 inch front tire.
Do they still keep it the way that you need to connect speackers to get car play on screen??
It's an adv bike, not a Harley, look up, see the landscape, listen to the breeze, forget phones, music and tech, go on an adventure
If you hold the back button for 5 seconds, you can connect CarPlay to the screen without the need for a headset connected. If I’m just wanting to use Sat Nav that’s what I do.
@@caldervallycamper2024 lol
@@caldervallycamper2024 😆
Is it fitted with an up-and-down quick shifter? I am so used to using one, it would be a backward step to not have one. Yes! I'm lazy.
buy it with DCT. ;)
Does it have heated grips as standard?
In the US you can’t get electronic suspension on the standard Africa Twin!
Does the base model have a quick shifter?
I did a 5 day advanced riding course through my job as a first responder, I can vouch for the value of receiving training, it made me a much better rider after 30 odd years on the road. Dont be the rider who thinks they know everything, there is always room for improvement. And its kinda fun, tooling around on bikes with a bunch of like minded people.
I have a 2021 and I have to say the thing that I notice the most is the stock suspension. The front forks "dive" under front braking. Does it feel the same with the 2024 model?
