Hi,
Yes, it would easily fit books of different sizes. However, if the book size is extra large, you may have to increase the dimension of bookmark by at least half an inch on either side. Bookmark dimension in this video is 3.5"x3.5". Keeping this as reference you could increase/decrease bookmark size accordingly.

Yes, absolutely! Calico fabric is a good choice to make embroidered bookmarks. You could also use Denim, Burlap fabric. Thank You.
