- Why these two small SUVs are better than ever
The 2020 Renault Captur and 2020 Ford Puma prove there's more than one way to build a great small crossover. But which should you buy? In this CarGurus UK review, Rebecca Jackson tests the two cars back-to-back in order to answer precisely that question.

Her outfit matches the Renault. Im getting my Capture cant fuckin wait.
I was waiting for the Renault to get scratched by the umbrella 😂

me too but i think it was for purpose cause i cannot think any other reason

I was like''LADY...!!!! You Betta NOT ey????''
Excellent review! Plus really popping colors and overall video production- kudos to video editors! Very eye-pleasing!
I love the look of the Captur. It has an almost premium look to it.
I've just got the Captur and it's fabulous!!
Cruising round Soho checking out the hot guys. 👍
I had a Ford Kuga and I bought the Captur 1.3 TCE 130 nearly three weeks ago. I love it. Lovely handling, smooth drive.
The prices of this small suvs are getting out of the hand just because they are popular. In my country Puma with good equipment is 25.000e. Same equipment Fiesta is around 18.000...
Ordered a frozen white ST Line X. Looking forward to it. Great review as always Rebecca. 😊
People saying about the pumas dark interior the captur featured here has a coloured interior yes but it's £350 optional extra and without it the captures interior is actually pretty dark as well
Car dealer after getting the captur back: „what’s that scratch on the side.... looks like an umbrella scratch??“..... girl: „pfffffff.... „
Puma all day long for me. Ford have nailed the manual gearbox and suspension in recent years. Looks more modern in my opinion as well. Great review as always btw.
The Renault looks better and the fact a turbocharged diesel engine is on the cards is good. DCI all the way.
I want this new Puma with manual gearbox to be launched in the US/North American market ASAP. I will buy it for my next car if it's available!
@@shanjanusman9974 Yeah, DCI is very reliable
The Puma is beautiful and and the 1.0 155cv mild hybrid is a rocket
I like how the Puma drives but it costs money. Here in Holland, the starting price of the Captur is 5k Eur less.
Dutchland
And in the UK its 2.5k
Ik ben ook een Nederlander maar woon in engeland
Veel geld voor een puma met z'n interieur in deze tijd.
Here in Portugal, the Puma is 3000k+ less
The dual clutch gearbox has a delay when shifting as a protection so it will be more reliable and I don't mind to be honest, it's not like I'm drivind a sports car :)
Rebecca you are such a charming person, I really love the way you presented both cars, just enjoyable to watch you and besides you give very detailed and complete information about the most important attributes of both cars. You helped me a lot, thank you. By the way: only because of the optics, the renault fits in this case very good to your outfit (color applications inside) ;-)
Simp
We bought the puma 155 mild hybrid and I’m still shocked at what this 1.0l engine is capable of and it handles like it’s on rails … and the stereo kicks arse
If your willing to pay £22grand for a frill, then thats OK.
@@GIobeCentral if it was your cash what paid for it I’d understand your comment?? But it wasn’t … was it ?
I just bought the 2023 Puma ST line can't wait to start driving, how do you fine it in traffic I heard stop start traffic gets a bit jolty
It is 3 cylinder?
@@GIobeCentral More than that!
Great non-biased and real world review, thank you!
I'm keen on both models, after after driving a new Fiesta for a few days though I'm swayed by the Puma, if it drives anywhere near as good as that it's going to be smiles for miles..
Excellent Review; wow.
Always a pleasure to hear and see Rebecca. Neither one of these vehicles is sold in the USA. Nevertheless, Rebecca does a terrific job reviewing vehicles that are.😊
Please contact Ford USA Customer Service and tell them we, their American customers, want the new Puma 6-speed manual to come to the North American/USA market. This is a perfect replacement for the frankly disappointing Ecosport that doesn't even offer a manual transmission option here. Thank you!
I could see the Puma selling in the US, and probably better than the awful EcoSport
Don't listen to@@danielleroux6490, Ford USA. The US has proven time and again that 90% of us don't want anything to do with manuals. We deserve the EcoBoost and Trax.
@@epbrown01 What the heck, is that a joke?
I believe the Puma will be sold under different name. I saw a leak. Just need to be confirmed?
I have PUMA, really fantastic and dinamyc car, absolutely happy!! Funny driving! Great video!
Excellent review and well presented.
Great review..
Nice; bella, bella; and of course; great review!
@CarGurus UK Please, can you tell me what's the name of the background music, most prominent at 4:53? I got it stuck in my head and it's driving me crazy! 😂
Purerly on design, the Captur wins hands down, Renault design team seem to have the midus touch these days, everything they design looks gorgeous, love this new Captur, and will defintely be my next buy...........👍
im keen to see the Puma ST coming out
Quick question, did you spot any problem with Captur's gear selector and switching from Reverse to Drive? I've seen some videos with serious issues on that matter.
It's really crap.
Neither of these vehicles are available where I live and honestly neither of them interest me; I just watched because Rebecca is pleasant af.
Waiting for the captur hybrid. Very close on buying the Puma after the test drive...
The captur 2020 looks really good
I get my own Puma st-line last week and i love it.
How is it a good idea to fit golf clubs in that mega box exactly?
The ford puma looks out-dated compared to the Capture.
Ford should bring the Puma to the US! Especially since they're not selling the Fiesta or Focus in the US anymore. But they'd need a 4-cylinder engine. I don't think most Americans would accept a 3-cylinder engine.
Actually, a 3-cylinder is already in the Ecosport and Escape sold here. In the Puma, it's the perfect engine since its mild hybrid system is compatible with the Manual Transmission option #savethemanuals I would buy this Puma with 6-speed manual if offered in the U.S. Ford USA can bring over the 150 hp variant to please the American buyers. Please contact Ford USA Customer Service and tell them we, their American customers want the new Puma 6-speed manual to come to the North American/USA market. This is a perfect replacement for the frankly disappointing Ecosport that doesn't even offer a manual transmission option here. Thank you!

I have driven quite a few of the old Captur’s when I worked at Portbury docks and even hired one for a long weekend trip ..
I found the old one very adaptable.
What does scare me about Renault’s tho is Electronic Handbrake & Key Card Keys etc ..
How they will hold out compared to the past we shall see ..
The new puma looks nice but my only complaint from what I see from the review is the dashboard is too blue ..
I am not a fan of blue dashboard lighting ( it also makes me ill )
You can change the digital dashboard colour on the Puma, for example when in sport mode the colours are Black and Red
What is the price difference?
Like the R interior for sure. Especially the gear stick.
Love the F exterior anytime!!
Hard!!
The Ford Puma's front headlights remind me of fly eyes
Driven both ordered Ford Puma ST 6 speed Manuel. I drove just with the electric I found it did 67 miles to a standard galleon of petrol. The window space has way more than the Captur , which I found lacking. Boot space is alot more than the captur and driving with the Manuel Puma was better than than the Automatic. In 2022 safety Puma stands out while the Captur again is lacking. Overall experience driving combined with good view from the driving seat, boot space and safety features outweighs the Captur.
Can you review new Nissan Juke?
Its a close call- I slightly prefer the Puma but interior better on Renault
It’s such a shame the lovely floating consol and nice automatic gear lever is not available in any other engine but the hybrid.
Rebecca, love your no nonsense reviews, your equally vibrant personality and raspy voice 😘 Keep on doing what you're doing best.
No mention of any safety features?
"Living in pickering is pointless" - Grand Moff Tarkin
Puma have fantastic outside design but Captur is better in interior, also I like real wind tunnels on the front bumpers in Renault and practical mega-box with plug in Puma's trunk!
i like both of them. Puma looks more sporty from the outside, but the inside is 0815. Capture looks more practical and modern from the inside, but its not so sporty from the outside. I have to do some test drives with both of them :D
I've got Kadjar and i can say that built quality issues are common in Renault models :)
I'd pick Puma becouse of its agility and it looks more like a Porsche thanks to its front lamps :)
I agree. Of the two, the Captur is a more balanced car. And I like how it looks too.
No. The Better drivers is the Ford
Puma . All the way.... renault its crap and girly... and just a nice interior...
I think the Renault takes the honours if you just want to cruise around normally.
Does any Puma come with powered handbrake, auto-stop and can keep behind stopped cars by itself, when using adaptive cruise control? (Automatic transmission models)
I have read that they will when the automatic transmission arrives, even it is in the configurator options. Although when that will happen given the current state of affairs is uncertain.
Where is the spare wheel? Isn't a safety issue?
Me I'd go for the Puma as it is a step up from what I am driving (Fiesta Active), so am familiar with the set-up and no fiddly touch screens to navigate through, those I find annoying. Cheers Rebecca.
I prefer the puma tbh it’s the better looking car although the capture has a better looking cabin than the puma! 💚
Having driven both cars, the Ford’s interior is low rent and the rear box on the Puma feels flimsy. There is a weight limit for it.
The Captur just seems a size larger than the Puma. The front seats in the Captur are larger, more supportive and comfortable. Captur is very quiet and smooth, you can barely hear the engine it is so smooth. Captur for me.
Honestly, if either Ford or Renault offered the Puma or Captur in the U.S. with manual transmission, I would buy either one of them! I thought I read that the French car companies are returning to the U.S. Did you hear the same?
How much gold bullion did you intend putting in that flimsy box?
If I must choose ?
I go for Rebecca 🥰
She is the most beautiful of the 3 😍
3:09 when thet door shuts you know that is quality
Both are great cars. I'd struggle to pick the winner.
Test Drove a 2020 captur, it's not bad, but coming from a 2016 juke, there's no fun. Maybe I'll try out a Puma.
Juke vs Puma please? 💐
In love with puma
Ford Puma a driver’s car. Renault Captur the best for Interior quality
I love the captur! 💞
The Renault 5 year warranty will sway a lot of buyers in the direction of the Captur.
It's a pity all manufacturers didn't offer at least, a 5 year warranty.
Renault have stopped it now
She looks Gorgeous, makes the car look better !
Ford Puma. Fantastic engine and drive.
Puma = driver's car, Captur = automotive electricians that want a real challenge. Both great cars on a lease / 3-4 year ownership though.
Yeah.. all this fuss about having a normal hand brake lever. If people want a car that also drives by it self , might as well get a bus.
I’ve got the Puma with 155bhp ST Vignale, it’s a gorgeous car to drive.
The Renault might have soft touch finishes inside but that orange is revolting.
I like the Renault better but a bit worried about the sluggish take off as was mentioned in another video.
My 2015 A4 avant was sluggish too..its a gearbox thing.
I hope the Puma comes to the States. Ford’s small suv, EcoSport, is just so plain.
Please contact Ford USA Customer Service and tell them we, their American customers, want the new Puma 6-speed manual to come to the North American/USA market. This is a perfect replacement for the frankly disappointing Ecosport that doesn't even offer a manual transmission option here. Thank you!
Puma uts a europen Market car.. no usa
Forget the cars I like Rebecca lol
Me Too 🥰
Renault capture Mmm 17 thousand miles on mine and the alloy's have started to pit not under warranty the R link crashes trim falling off water in the indicator's that's normal apparently going back to Toyota
Nice review with a cheap and broken umbrella :) ))) i go for PUMA.
I love hoth! Great choices 2.
umbrella magically fixed itself
corners changed
Thanks for a great comparison. It would be hard to decide but, personally, I would take the vehicle which drives better. the Puma - good name, too
Renault for me as hybrid or diesel are options
The puma is a hybrid
@@petedrake1 It's not a proper hybrid it has a 48V battery system but it still runs on a one litre turbocharged petrol engine and is only in manual transmission. The Renault narrowly edges it for me personally as I prefer a turbocharged diesel engine for long distance driving such as Huddersfield to Leeds on a daily basis or Huddersfield to London on the odd occasion.
I saw a Puma Coupé concept. Not sure if it’s real but it looked amazing.
Moving off in the capture is bad if you put your foot down to quickly it jerks
Never seen 1 puma on the dutch roads. Seen hundreds of Capturs though
The Puma was officially launched a few weeks ago, even series production has only been running for 5 months
. The Captur exists since 2013. Also, the pumas unofficial predecessor EcoSport has for example in germany much bigger sales figures than the Captur.
Because the Captur is better looking and cheaper. The Puma is the driverscar but the old people who buy these cars don't realy care about that.
Almost missed you in the Renault with that scarf on! ;o)
I don’t why, but this channel looks like the female version of carwow and I love something new.
Does Rebecca only review cars if it’s raining ?
hahaha.. most of her reviews happen in the UK.. and it is always pouring rain 😁😁😁
@@koenigsegg1237456789 Indeed, same here in the Netherlands :)
Not so sure about both cars but Rebecca comes out best.
the captur is the better of the 2 looks wise interior and exterior but price wise if you are someone who leases cars for the price you can get the new 208 which tops both these cars outright even though different style of cars not all families get big cars like these 2
Renault Captur
Puma all the way, I have a 2001 puma and its a fun and amazing little motor. I'm sure the new one won't disappoint either.
Your umbrella looks lethal. Sort it out!
i was going to say the same haha....😅
I think the Titanium X looks a lot better and more appropriate than the ST-Line X, a crossover with a body colour body kit seems counterproductive and the wider grille looks nicer in my opinon.
prefer puma
orange in renault bit loud!
You can choose another colour I suppose
The puma looks stunning
Puma all day. Get mine next week. 155 ps mild hybrid . I currently own a fiesta mk8 2018 so I know how fords handle and drive . Many people saying they prefer captur because it looks a bit better inside but disregard the fact that even this lady trampled all over the rapture with its handling compared to the puma! Personally I think a better handling, a better drive experience is far more important than a bit of bling interior.
23k a bit expensive
I love the Renault interior but it sounds like the Puma may be the more entertaining steer. I'm also nervous about French design quirks like tiny glove-boxes. I think I'd be happy with either car. Great review, Rebecca. Glad that you picked up on a few negatives for the Puma - all the other British journalists were a bit too gushing.
i have Capture right now the brand new one and i totaly recoment it to you
Puma would be my choice, clearly!
The ford puma has changed so much
For the better, yes.
That umbrella 😂
Every reviewer is really talking up the 'mega box'. Isn't it just the spare wheel well, because now you don't get a spare wheel? What happens if you get a puncture? Well, I guess at least now you'll have somewhere to put the dirty tyre while you wait for the AA.
Puma wins by looks alone... but it's great that both cars offer good value for the money.
but such an awful colour used here - the red looks fantastic! (got one!)
Nice outfit!
Welly storage + 1, looks of a Kia Niro/Nero -1. I guess the Renault wins this but in the end, all of us are winners.
One thing that Rebecca didn’t motion that the Puma is based on a fiesta so it would drive better then the capture
Why does it matter in this class?
@@Johnny24rs people still want a good driving experience
I’m from Portugal and I’ve ordered a Puma ST Line X with 7 year warranty and around 7000€ cheaper than a similar Capture. Question, why is it that Renault only offers a 3 year warranty, being such a superior product? Makes you think…
Hey, how has it been with the Puma in Portugal? I'm deciding getting an used Puma or a Captur... Maybe a smaller model if I don't get financimaento enough 😅😅
Olá @@pealecrim,
Adoro o carro e voltaria a fazer negócio.
Se quiseres pormenores, posso dar-te.
Entre os dois modelos, optaria sempre pelo Ford. Os interiores não são tão bem acabados, mas é um carro mais divertido, tem muito mais arrumação e é mais bonito, imho.😅
