- I've driven a lot of M3's in my life. Actually, prior to driving this E46 I'd driven all of the generations except what I think is the best of all of them and that's this E46 M3. It's everything I heard it was supposed to be. Balanced. Great power to weight ratio although another 50-75 hp wouldn't suck. The styling is on point. Everything about this car makes it the best M3 ever for me.

Not overdone, great build, great color, this guy has some really nice taste
I love this because I was debating what color and what kind of mods to do to my M3, and my plan was exactly this. This guy has it exactly how I was planning on doing mine, and it just confirms for me that this is the right choice
@Gage Petas true, not really a build, but he's got wheels, lights, blacked out trim and additional bodywork, etc etc. There's a good amount of things here that aren't stock, but they're entirely bolt on stuff.
@Gage Petas would you consider my car a build then? I bought mine as an SMG, and it spun bearings within a month. So I gutted the whole thing, rebuilt and replaced whatever I could/needed to, and swapped it to a manual. Being on a college student schedule and budget, I think it's pretty good. 😅 I don't consider it a build but if I ever get the chance to S54 swap a wagon I will be all over it

@Gage Petas And then you can say that a 525whp E46 is not a build too, you can simply bolt on a supercharger and leave then engine fully stock.

@@stefanfreestylez SMG could give trouble I'm in Ireland so we have manuals over here which are more enjoyable to drive but cost of running a M3 here is crazy fuel and tax insurance all very high I'd probably still have it if it was cheaper to tax and fill up

I wouldn't say E92's look like shit. They look pretty clean and nice. They're what signified the end of the 3 series being good. They were the last ones that were nice to me.
If you're talking about the S85 V10, you're also forgetting about the VANOS which can break and fragments of metal can enter the engine and destroy the entire block for good. The S85 V10 is amazing. But also really, really, really, really fragile and not so reliable. The rod bearings, even aftermarket, can still be really finicky and fragile.
That said, I love the E60 M5. And the E60 550i. And the E63 M6/650i.
My fave M3, absolute weapon, Kyles mods are perfect.
I have an grey 04 m3.The mods consist of carbon fiber grills,gills,csl flippers,fog light inserts,painted reflectors,carbon fiber diffuser,Iforged daytona rims powder coated semi gloss black fr19x9.5 245x35 rr19x12 275x30,stop tech rotors.The engine mods are Dinan programming,cai,bored out throttle bodys,and agency power exhaust the shocks are stock with h@r green springs.The interior is dove grey,carbon fiber pedals and short shifter.I actually dont have a trunk spoiler.The car looks good has a fresh engine rebuild,new clutch,front control arms and rear arm bushings.Theres 111,000mls on the clock and it's always garaged and covered.I think the sub frame is starting to crack so it's going to the Chevy dealership for a CamaroSS1LE.

This kid knows his shit and has such a taste for the car. That exhaust sound is perfect. It only amplified the original e46 m3 sound, which is already fantastic, instead of changing the sound completely to something else it is not. Respect!

The S54 cars were the most elegant beautiful M cars ever - and that's coming from an e30 M3 owner.
Kyle, if i could suggest one thing for your car it would be the carbon airbox - it just gives it such a beautiful induction noise. Although i'm not the biggest fan of your raspy exhaust note, the CFK airbox induction would fit perfectly to that exhaust.

This makes me happy to be a BMW person. Despite having different tastes, people can be so polite and nice and offer suggestions.
Maybe it's sexy, but as years go by and 3 series is getting as big as the old 7-ers there is something so special in seeing an E30 sport evolution.

My god. That exhaust sound. That's absolutely the best M3, best color, best manual transmission. Absolute dream car.
Notice, no ugly tire letters, no stupid widow stickers, no black and white roundels. Amazing clean build.
LOVE IT! I daily one of these and it's the car you can wring the daylights out of and not get too freaked out that you won't be able to control it. It loves to rev and that's where the fun is. For me what makes this car really shine (besides the great looks and handling) is the LSD. I know any car massively improves with one but this one with the balance just loves the corners and the drift factor. Not the fastest but one of the true greats. Thank you for covering this little German beauty!

I hear you on that. However on mine I've spent my cash on the mechanicals. The sub frame re-enforced the vanos Besian fresh. The engine maintained on the inside and out. But the body gets digs and chips. I drive it every day and in winter. Nothing more fun in the snow than an M3 with the LSD. It's built to be driven and so I drive it. If I could afford a garage queen I might have something under a cover but not this baby. Shes going around every corner with me.

This is one mean sounding E46. Your exhaust setup sounds fantastic - keeps the raspy nature but gets alot more tone and deepness to boot.
Love the Laguna Seca blue on it with the carbon fiber bits added on.

E46 M3's exhaust note in the aftermarket is notoriously hard to get right; yours my friend is just perfect. Much respect. Wish I still had mine!

I agree this was the true sweet spot for the M3. I am amazed at how good this one sounds. Owned an '04 when new with the SMG and remember the only letdown was the exhaust, despite it being a high-revving inline-6 with ITB's. As passe as people say it is, the SMG was pretty good for its time. However, I am on board with a manual (SMG-to-manual conversion) nowadays. I also love to see young people still into the hobby!

@@Patr1ck2332 stock exhaust with catless headers, thinking about doing the same mod to my 330ci, I love the sound, I wish the m54 redlined as high as the s54 :( I'm saving up for an M3 though so I'll be getting that sweet sound some day ❤️

Just picked up a supercharged E46 M3 and it's by far one of my favorite cars I've owned.
It's super well balanced and handles great. It's got some nice pull. It sounds great.
It's not incredibly fast but just such a fun car to drive and be inside.
With a supercharger it must be great to have that extra power?
Just picked up one last week. It's carbonschwarz metallic with CSL trunk and front bumper. This car is a legend! It loves to rev high. Great video man!

When I was in highschool (mid/late 2000's) this was the car to have. And it still is! It's a timeless look, and just an overall great car. Can't believe that redline.. I just picked up a 2017 manual M240i which I'm in love with, but damn, I wish I would've had one of these. Maybe one day...This kid has some good taste

whats the maintenance like?
Maintenance can be pricey! But if you find the right car and keep an eye on the problem points like rear subframe and vanos they can be a fairly dependable and very fun sports car! Oh and DRIVE IT! If you let them sit, they start to get sad and act up.

i had the e46 convertible in carbon black with the smg 2 gearbox. i still miss that car. the sound is amazing and the handling awesome.

Love my 2004 M3, IMO one of the best cars ever made & truly worthy of the Motorsport badge! I praise the S54 motor still to this day. Got her on the rhino ramps atm undergoing head gasket replacement (cut/cooper ring), megan racing headers, mishimoto aluminum radiator w/ electric fan shroud & NPT, etc. Throttle response is key to raising the fun factor; the E46 M3 is one of very few cars that captures that ultra sporty throttle response feeling.. I don't even get the same from my 2014 370Z w/ the VQ37! This and the R34 GT-R V-Spec are my favorite cars of all time.

I got an E46 328ci (2,8l with 193ps,the coupe that is) on bilstein dampers and original e46 m3 wheels (225 front and 255 back) and it drives wonderfully. Everyday I look forward to driving it. Just gotta install a short shifterx the throw on the stock one is way too long. Anyways, when driving my 328 i still wonder how that M3 would feel like. Would be fucking awesome to drive one someday

So funny to hear an E46 described as a slow car you drive fast. It seemed really fast to me when I drove one in 2004. But that was over a decade ago, and I was used to older sports cars which were really slow.

I love that Laguna Seca blue, it's my favorite color on the E46 M3, I have never seen a LSB E46 M3 in person just the autoart 1/18 scale I have and internet pictures. I'm not really a fan of the E92 M3 but the M4 is very similar to E46.
LSB looks very different in real life (way better when you see it in person).

My E30 with the S54 swap was one of my favorite cars. It's easy to see why the E46 M3 is the greatest M3. 330~ish horsepower out of a naturally aspirated inline 6? Amazing. I want an E46 M3 again.

@@AutotopiaLA It's like the peak of BMW. Technology, but not bogged down by too much. The blend of new tech and simplicity with excellent material quality and build quality. This was when luxury was defined by innovating some tech but more importantly, by its build quality. This is the best of BMW.
Plus, it comes with its own widebody. If you need to widen this more, you better be running some obscenely fat tires and making it a literal race car. It's wide enough on its on. Just right. Elegant but aggressive and suited to its purpose.

Nice little kickass car! Shawn, one thing I noticed on Kyle's car are the black carbon fiber front splitters and the rear diffuser. If Kyle wanted to add a further touch to the
rear spoiler he could also do the following. What about notching out the rear spoiler about 1 to 3 inches (and 3 feet plus wide) and adding a black carbon fiber piece in the
notch? Might add a further touch of cool!

CSL Trunk is not in Carbon Fiber, it's Fiber but noncarbon !!
True i buyed Original from bmw. Its some sort of mix plastic and glassfiber. Same stuff that they use trucks. Price was 2000 dollars.
