Unfortunately heatblur chimed in on that video to say the damage model will be updated making pretty much all his tactics null and void. They said the auto wing sweep and maneuvering flaps are all that should be used. Flaps down above 250 will damage them. Best option is to do a 300 to 350 turn and stay at it and you will out turn the enemy most times. Other planes require much more speed to maintain turn rate.
Interesting! I wondered about it because I think Spudknocker did a vid showcasing the a/c's vertical fight ability, just pulling up and away and forcing the enemy into a high AOA which can't be sustained, and allowing you to pounce down on them. No flaps in that vid' that I recall, so this is interesting. Well, enjoy it while you can I guess. Have to hand it to Heatblur they will not allow the F-14B to be anything less than one of the most realistic modules in the game!
@@Pricklyhedgehog72 most planes cannot sustain a high turn rate at slow speed. They fall out of the air at high AOA as you said. The giant near A10 straight wing ability of the f-14 allows it to stay slow and the huge engines keep the plane in the air. At least that is what I took from the comments. Just had my first retraining in the f-14 in VR and it is a whole world different than 2d even on my ultrawide setup.
@@Pricklyhedgehog72 not bad even with just my 1060 6gb running it. Not sure how people get VR sickness to be honest. Have not gotten my settings perfect yet. Still some shimmer. Getting there though. Odyssey is pretty damn good for the price of only $250 at b&h.com
I really love the cat, it’s definitely one of the best quality modules out there. I just get frustrated with jester, hopefully the jester+ changes, will eventually make him more proactive and useful.
The Fulcrum is actually tougher to beat than the Flanker. As far as AI is concerned, I never had to use any special techniques such as flaps and stability off agaisnt Flankers, it was the Fulcrum that I found difficult to outmaneuver. Flaps can help you win if you end up in scissors, but it's important to watch airspeed, as it's fairly easy to damage them, at which point you can just turn and go home, abandoning whatever mission you originally had.
yes, i recreated the same scenario without the flaps and while it's not quite as easy, it's still possible to win the fight. I will post a couple of those vids at some stage!
Turning off roll SAS is not necessary, and not really desirable. Use rudders to control the wing rock. You can't just roll the Tomcat without using coordinated rudder input.

Yeah, since I made this video a lot of changes have taken place, and some learning on my part. It either needs a new video, or deleting.
I would disagree, i have to contort my head around like a damn owl to keep track of them in vr. And definitely not spinning my chair instead hehe.
