major issue folks are having is DCS not auto-mapping. Its getting better however, oh how I miss the days of Jane's Fighters when all we did was hit (Enter) for A-A and Back-Space for A-G.

Several of your keymaps that you use a modifier to cycle the off function have a toggle mapping for the jet. Exterior lights are one example. That way you can use the same button to toggle the lights on and off as opposed to using the modified mapping to turn them off. For ones that do not have the option (Speedbrake comes to mind) There are great posts in the forums about making an "Else" binding in the .lua file. This would allow you to use your button you have assigned to speedbrake to deploy when you push it forward and then retract once you pull the button back to its stow position. Great Vid Spud, looking foreward to more as I try to figure this new CAT out.
Very interesting! For your speed brake, you don't need to use the modifier because the x-56 software allows you to bind the airbrake to the on position when the button is depressed and off when the button is released. right click the sell on your hotas software program and use "New advance command"

I finally broke down and decided to really invest some money into my dcs game experience so I had a custom built computer made for me and bought a thrustmaster hotas system and the thrustmaster mfd's not to mention a flight multi panel, flight switch panel as well as a radio panel. holy shit did I bite off more than I can chew ! but I am slowly getting it together oh yeah almost forgot, I started to get everything setup when I realized my computer desk needed to be modified to make the setup easier to access but thank you for the tutorial it will really help me out in setting up my rig when I get my F-14

yep, and some flaps dlc idk what that all is. looks like the f14 had 100 flaps positions and things that can extend and retract.. i dont get the start up in this plane.. sitting 5 hours on airfield.. the videos are different and the manual sucks :D greets from germany

I have an X-55 and just now finished working 3 hours on an adaptation from someone's profile to TM HOTAS to my X-55, thanks for the video, I'm using it in order to try and see if I got all controls correct (I also used saiteks software for mode 2 & 3)
There's a registry hack for the x56 that allows the system to recognize thumbstick axes as actual axes. You can then map DLC to it to have analog DLC control

Why not just map Weapon Selector Up and Down to U&D on your hat to match the actual movement of the selector in the aircraft? Then you could just use L for 'Push" if you like. Also no need for the OFF command, just toggle the selector down to off like IRL.

Well I fly the MiG 21 the most out of all the DCS planes I have, so we'll see which is trickier to fly. Aside from the stand off long range fire power of the AIM 54 there isn't much about the tomcat that really interests me, but i know i'm likely in the minority. I'm just not a fan of (big) air superiority planes espessially ones where there isn't a single seat only option. Guess I just like underdogs.
I love mig 21 , too. It is true about air superiority planes. There is not much skill about firing one Aim 120 after another as if they cost nothing. Short range imperfect missiles brings more fun into dogfight.

I'm a 55 year old gamer, and a private pilot. I'm also a 100% service connected combat vet, who was labeled a partial paraplegic. As such...I had a bit of time on my hands...so decided to get into DCS; and spent a shit ton on money on planes and modules. I initially started with the HOTAS X-56; with the thought that I would buy better equipment if the game turned out to be as advertised; unfortunately its a massive disappointment because the game designers and HOTAS developers cant get their shit together...providing equipment and services that easily work together. For me, I found that the sliders and modes don.t function on the throttle, and the lower trigger on the stick does not function. God forbid a player is using the $1,500 VR setup...which is made useless if the key bindings don.t work. I have noted that there are players who attempt to provide complicated work arounds...which for the vast majority of people...don't f@#$ing work. So my advice to players who are considering DCS...save your money...buy a xbox...at least that shit works. Im always amazed at the opportunity for these companies to make money...and instead of working together...they provide a shit product; and while there are a few players...there is untapped potential because most players leave out of frustration. Regardless...as they say in Texas...DCS is all hat and no cattle. players beware. Nothing! It's a dual mode switch, very confusing until you know. When you're landing it'll change to DLC - I think it changes when the gear is down. Can't remember off the top of my head.
Dynamic Lift Control. The spoilers on the wings sit up halfway and you get yourself to the correct AoA using the E-Bracket. Then you use DLC up/down to increase or decrease lift with the spoilers without altering your AoA - very good for carrier traps because you can alter your position on the glideslope without moving the throttle or stick. The F-14 is something else entirely!
Not bad spud, though I would prioritise the close range pilot ACM modes to a lot of other stuff you have bound. PLM is only one mode that the Pilot can use to lock on the AWG9 in close range fighting and it's not even the most commonly used mode in the F14. Why not use left pinky switch for speed brakes? It has both positions. Much simpler than the damn button you used. I hate it. Stupid one position switch.

@Smouth It's a good mid ranged Hotas, I would definitely recommend it, a lot of the QA kinks have been worked out and mine works great!

JustCallmeMatt ya there were some QA issues related to saitek being bought and merged with Logitech but I am pretty sure they are all worked out now

When I use the DLC toggle and countermeasure dispense it only uses my flares and doesn’t toggle the DLC
