Long time tracker from Vermont who has always admired your part of the country, hope to get out there someday... thanks for the video and good luck to you this season.
One of these days I would love to do a northeast trip, Vermont is on my bucket list!!!!! Same to you!! These warm temps are not looking good for tracking so far this November!!!
Awesome set of videos. He was really making you work for it, and he came out on top this time. Hard to believe there is snow somewhere in the country with the weather we are having (guessing these were 2023). Drought conditions and the last 3 days the highs were in the mid to upper 70s. Today is a bit cooler but highs still hitting 60.
My 14 day forecast here does not show a single day below freezing for a low… That pretty much eliminates all of Minnesota rifle season for tracking… I have to pray for something miraculous to happen for Wisconsin rifle season. What a bummer!!!!
I'm from the Adirondacks in NY and been tracking deer for many years. Now I live in MN and hunt in northern MN. I don't do as much tracking anymore, but I want to do more. That Pine Marten was cool.
I grew up in Int’l Falls, and hunted deer down around Big Falls for many years. Not a lot of deer, since, u know, the wolves moved in. Got some land now down around Deer River that my family hunts. A lot better. Good luck with all of ur hunting!!
The UPS is such a cool place… I’ve done some track in there in the past, amazing how poor the deer herd is over there, though… So tough to find a good track!
Not to scold or criticize because I have done it plenty of times myself. Not realizing a fresher track is the same buck is very costly. What I learned over the years is it probably is the same buck when you are in an area with few deer and wolf's. A big track is rare in areas like that. I learned to spend some time on the new track because 10 minutes can easily gane you hours. Bucks commonly use a figure 8 pattern or just loop in and out of heavy cover area often causing an overlap of tracks. Often if you know a buck is up and cruising his area you can often just go to his exit point and see if he left the area yet. If not you can arrange a meet and greet. I think you are going to get this guy 😊👍
The gun is a little too long to be a great tracking gun, but not terrible! I probably should get the barrel shortened if I’m really gonna take it serious with that gun!
Tough hunting up there. Wolves have taken over. I hunt 30 miles south of Duluth. Never had a problem with wolves until this year. They are all over my trail cam
You are right on the edge of some moose in that country too!!! The wolves have put a serious hurting on the deer herd in northern MN…WI is better off yet but in a few years we may be the same condition!!!
@swostillwateroutdoors I live in northern wisconsin and the deer herd here is awful, wolves everywhere. My hunting cabin in northern minnesota just doesn't produce the bucks it used to either , walking out in the dark morning hearing the howls is scary
@@ltcavret7574 We have seen 3 wolf kills within a mile of my house in the Remer area in the last month. Rare to see twin fawns anymore and lots of solo does by Fall - even after the extremely mild winter last year.
I had a buddy tell me that one of the things he notices is that I never bump deer on these tracking hunts…goes to show that there are so few deer that I am very seldom walking up on any deer! Go anywhere else even back in Wisconsin and you are bound to bump into deer often!
You have alot to learn sir… first thing patience and sight. You concentrate on the ground more than whats in front of you and your pace is awful fast. You slowed down but by that time it was too late. You said it yourself he is getting close and you kept the same pace without slowing down. Just take it slow man… It would be nice to see you harvest something finally.
Agreed! One of the toughest things to do is get the pacing correct, I have had times where I start going slow only to burn a bunch of time because he wasn’t as close as I thought, really tough to judge sometimes!
Really great video man

Heck yeah dude!!!!! Got several more tracking films coming!!!!
Great film brother !!
Thanks man!!! Lots to learn yet for tracking, especially with this big old bruisers!!!!

That Pine Marten was crazy. Good work up there and good luck this weekend! I’ll be up on the western edge of the arrowhead region this weekend.
Thanks man!!! I am probably not gonna be in MN until snow falls!! Weather doesn’t look good for snow anytime soon….
LOL. Damn grouse always scaring the crap out of me too. Happened to me not 3 weeks ago lol.
They always give me a near heart attack!!!!!!

Oh wow, that’s cool!! We don’t usually get too many eastern people out this direction!!! Lots of opportunity for tracking up here!!
Great videos, thanks for sharing. What’s your camera setup for the video following thru the woods?
Thanks!!! I designed a camera arm to film over my shoulder to make it look 3rd person with my 360 camera!

The wolves have done a number on the northern deer herd!!!! Very tough hunting up there!!!
Love the video. What are you using for a camera mount?
I am using a camera arm that I designed :)
Woah! What did you use to get that birds eye view? Never seen that angle before! Cool hunt!
I designed a filming rig :)
Nice video! Looks like the area I track in the UP!

Dude that is some legit wisdom there!!!!! I would be really fun to track a buck 6-7 times a year and just let him spill his guts on all the secrets!!!
The Minnesota accent is strong in you haha
Also is it already snowing in North North minnesota?
Bahahahhaha!!! Funny thing is my dad grew up on the iron range of MN so the accent runs deep 😂😂😂😂
Unfortunately no…and the forecast does not look promising 😭😭
Iron ranger here!
Nice!!! Haha!! My dad grew up in little old marble Mn!
are you anywhere near international falls? I like that area
I actually lived in IFalls for several years so very familiar with that area! This is not IFalls though!
@@swostillwateroutdoors I love that drive up 53
That can’t be this year because we don’t have snow yet
Correct! This was from 2023!
760 ? Caliber ?
Yep! 30-06!!

They do come in a carbine model

Wolves are nomads. They pass through periodically. The deer come back when they move on. I've seen it hundreds of times.

That area is def hit hard by the wolves!!
Guessing this is from 2023? Since MN Deer open hasn't happened yet for 2024.
That is correct!! I always edit my films in the off season so I can post them when I want to the next fall!!
That buck has to walk all day because there are no deer up there, the habitat doesn't support many, and the dam wolves eat most of them, but good luck
Um ok 🥴🤡🥴

I resemble that remark!
