Not only beautiful, but fast durable, and out of this world fit. One of the best boats I have ever rowed....Thirty years of rowing with lots of different boats under this butt. Finest seats, finest riggers, finest rails. Carl Douglas stuff is top of the line- a bespoke boat that flies. The details of the boat were incredible; a tough work of art for rowing fast and hard. Don't let the wood fool you, these babies are incredible. Thanks again Carl !

    Beautiful boat.
Looks to be the perfect marriage of tradition and technology, combined with sustainability.
    What's not to love?

Carl Douglas boats are the best ones you can buy. They look awesome, but aren't really worse than Empacher, BBG or Filippi. Carl Douglas racing shells have a soul. They aren't "just a boat". They are more. They live.
Thank you Carl Douglas and his team for these wonderful work.

I owned a Carl Douglas single racing high level 1980 to 1996 we won several single sculling races together giving me an advantage over competition being in a Carl Douglas. She was and still is the most beautiful boat , she had character human like not something you would share with others she was very light and feisty, a very well respected boat. One thing I've noticed since recently re-joining the rowing world and joining Nottingham Boat Club is the only wooden boat in whole boathouse is a Carl Douglas

They are beautiful. The older I get the more interesting it is to me to know that this or that may outlive myself. That may be your final thoughts when we view precious gifts such as this. Excellent work!!

I've watched this video WAY too many times. What craftsmanship and ingenuity! These folks make a product to take pride in. Thanks for posting it.
P.S. I don't even row, but this video makes me want to :-)

The first time I sculled a Carl Douglas 1x, I could tell immediately that it was different, and I had not known Carl Douglas as a boat make brand then. It sits on the water differently, and it runs beautifully. The club boat I was in is probably older than I am, but still one of my favourites. I can only dream about owning a custom made CD once myself.

Beautiful work! Stunning craftsmanship. I loved our 8 at school (1977), the veneer always looked good. But mate, wellies in a boat??? Harden up, get your feet wet 😳

you need not discredit other boats made from newer composites, I'm fairly sure an Empacher will outrun one of these, albeit those are yellow and these are usable art.

Actually, it's the rower and not the high-quality boats that make it fly. The Empachers were all over the olympics for years, Filippi gained a lot in the olympic this years. But fit out an olympic rower in a wooden boat built properly and you will see very little drop off. The trouble with non-kevlar, carbon fiber boats is they take less finesse to handle OFF the water. You have to be kind to your shell, and wooden boat owners generally know this.
Personally, I have never been faster than in a wooden shell built by Graeme King. Mainly because it fit like a glove, and I was taught to handle it with delicacy. They are called Shells for a reason. But you are right, no need to disparage others.

yes, but oddly the sculler filmed is a member of the club next door (I think?)

but this is not a wooden boat. It is composite with wooden layers around.
