I love Pensacola, but I live in Foley, and for me, the reason is pretty easy. Foley, while growing fast, is still much smaller than Pensacola, and more peaceful. That means it's also more boring, so in 30-45 minutes, we can be in Pensacola. I'm 62, so that should be mentioned, too. I would not live in Foley if I was 30. I would live in Pensacola, if choosing between the two. I LOVE Palafox Ave and all the restaurants and shops. I could stay there all day. There are other areas, and the people are very mixed in Pensacola. I am there almost every Saturday. My wife loves the Palafox outdoor Farmer's market. She likes the Everman market, Joe Patti's Seafood and Costello's market on the west side, for meats. Great pastrami sandwich! Closer to the airport. Even our dog loves to swim at Bayview. There are many more unusual people in Pensacola, more diversity. Some would even say "strange", but who is to say what strange is? Let's say "interesting". If I were gay, I don't think I would live in Foley. It is more conservative. If you want quiet, where everything shuts down by 9:00, but it isn't far to Pensacola, Fairhope, or Mobile, then Foley is for you. If you want to be closer to the action, and don't mind the downside to a larger city, like perhaps more crime, homelessness, and some run down areas, which most all cities have, but also super great, interesting areas, and you want to be in the middle of it, then Pensacola is for you ! But Foley has surprisingly good shopping. Publix and many clothing stores, Home Depot, Lowe's, and the large Tanger Outlet Center.
We were originally moving to Pensacola but decided on Gulf Shores, it's a great town. Pensacola has some great areas, but it's got some hood vibes, too. Foley is a great town.
What about flood insurance? I have heard that a lot of insurance companies have pulled out of Florida and have sky rocketed, even one saying theirs went from 4000/yr to 12000/yr
We have heard of this happening more in South Florida where the last hurricane really hit. I know flood insurance can get costly in the Pensacola metro but it’s also easy to determine which areas are and aren’t in a flood zone. We were surprised how close you can be to the water and not be in a flood zone.
Foley has become so crowded and crime is growing with it. Bumper to bumper traffic from tourist and snowbirds. Because of all the GREED it has gotten so expensive for what used to be a simple retirement town. Now this sick Mayor is building apartments for illegal aliens in Foley. The Walmart in Foley is like a third world country. I haven't been to the beach in two years as it is always jammed packed and what was once free parking is now $15 if you can find a spot. I live here and I go to Pensacola to swim as the waters are amazingly clear compared to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. This once wonderful city is ruined by the politicians and planning commissioners. Plus you have a 10% tax on all you buy. My recommendation is to stay away as it gets worse by the day.
Thank you for the insight, we have see from experience in Colorado that once a city gains popularity and people start moving there, the politics become worse
Lol. Lived over that way for thirty years. Just left. Ya, you think traffic is bad there? You think that your Walmart is the only one without food? Come over and visit the Eastern shore where the tourists strike first. They would even clear out Robertsdale.

This is a great comment and great info, thank you!
Thanks for comparing these 2 cities. My hubs was recently suggesting that we should check out Foley. I'm firmly in the Pensacola camp.
I won.😅
Haha thank you, we recently have had a few people comparing the two so thought it would be super beneficial to dig in!

Thank you for watching! Definitely two hot spots people are choosing between.
Please do more comparison of Gulf shores and the surrounding area and Pensacola area. I'm torn between the 2 areas
Thank you for watching, this is great feedback. We will most certainly put out more comparison videos to the neighboring Alabama cities 😃
We moved to Gulf Shores a year ago. Original plans was to move to Pensacola. For us, Gulf Shores was a MUCH better choice.
Great video. Good to include auto insurance tho :)
Thank you for the comment, good suggestion we will take that into consideration next time!
Pensacola will have better Healthcare services.
Thank you for the comment!

What about crime statistics?
Thank you for watching. Crime is something we can’t really dive into as a licensed Realtor. We always recommend citystistics for information on crime.
