Such a wistful, enchanting actress. She was very, very special.
Such a beautiful woman, died so young and alone tragic. RIP Elizabeth. xx
This is just incredibly sweet, It reminds me of me & my highschool sweetheart/first love. :( It is so l ♥ vely to see Gail happy and smiling, if even for a short time. Thank you kindly for posting this video. I adore Gail Russell and pray that she has found peace. An incredibly beautiful lady she was.
@LovemyLeo1 thank you for the kind comments.Gail often looked quite melancholy in a lot of the photos you see of her,so it's nice to see her in what I hope were happier times (who wouldn't be happy with Guy Madison!).
Bittersweet. Gorgeous. Heartfelt.
she was so beautiful. It is just so sad that she could not find happiness.
"The first time I saw Gail Russell was in Oct.1942. We were filming "Whom the Bells Tolls". I heard someone move nearby. I looked around and saw Russell standing almost hidden in the shadow's under a light platform. She was staring, transfixed with wonder at the beauty of the performances."
"She must have sensed that I was looking at her, for she turned toward me and faded back into the darkness. She had disappeared. A few days later, one of the actresses introduced us."
"The first thing I noticed about Russell were her beautiful blue eyes. But she was so young and shy. She seemed almost ready to run. Maybe she should have."
"There was a contract director, a handsome but immoral man, from whom those girls who knew him shied away. He moved in and soon she was lost."
"I didn't see much of her between 1942 & 1946. She was busy studying under Bill Russell in the talent department."
" I understood why she was cast in the film 'Calcutta" with Ladd. We met in director John Farrow's office a few day's later. She was dominated by Farrow. He was cold, arrogant and superior. She was too anxious to please him."
"She was no longer the eager, trusting young school girl I'd met in 1942. Something had happened to her. The blue in her eyes seemed to have faded."

I think she was--and that is a consolation. such an enchanting actress. She looks so happy with him.
Easily the most beautiful couple in Hollywood history. You can tell from the look in their eyes how much they loved each other. Its so sad that that that happiness did not last for long. Maybe they are bringing each other peace and happiness in the next world. And why not?
It is too bad he could not be her angel. So sad she could't find happiness in this world. I'd like to think for a little while she was happy. I hope so.
Guy Madison didn't go to her funeral. There must have still been some hard feelings about her She may have been really not easy to live with.
Madison refused to talk about her in his later years.
To his credit, he did stand by her when she was having so much trouble and get her help.
What a shame they didn't have any kids. A gorgeous, very happy looking couple.
Are you sure? Jimmy Lydon who played Henry Aldrich in her first movie, went to the ceremony. He said beside himself and Diana Lynn, her ex-husband was there.
He was a guest at a Movie Film Convention here recently.
Cruelty and neglect was the grounds. According to the biography on Barbara Payton by John O'Dowd, Madison had a affair with her when making "Drums In The Deep South" Still married to Russell.
Gail Russell had a affair herself with the director John Farrow, husband of Maureen O'Sullivan. He directed "Calcutta" and Night of A Thousand Eyes"
Welcome to Hollywood!
What a magnificent-looking couple. They look so content and happy with each other. Hard to believe she became one of the saddest stories in Hollywood. You wonder what made her so desperately unhappy and self-destructive? Just the booze? Wish someone would write a book .
Very engaging couple, but no one knows what goes on behind the scenes. Especially when one of them {Russell} was beset by conflicts of distress.
@kade seen. Was the cruelty and neglect grounds applying to Guy's first marriage to Gail or his second marriage to Sheila Connelly? I have read that Barbara Payton biograpy. Very sad story indeed. She upset some major people in Hollywood to have been blacklisted like that. What happened to Guy after his second marriage broke up, and he went to work in Europe? As I have written, it's difficult to find any information about any other relationships he might have had afterwards.
One wonders why---I think it would have brought them greater happiness.
You mentioned that she wasn't in love with him. Was he in love with her though? What do you think were the deep down problems, apart from an addiction to alcohol? Is there any truth in the rumours that she was lesbian or bisexual?
I know that Guy Madison went on to marry Sheila Connelly, his second wife, and she had children with him. They divorced in 1961. On what grounds did they divorce? Also do you know if he had any significant relationships when he worked in Europe. I can't find any details of any other women in his life after 1961.
Is that why he didn't attend her funeral service?
Kade seen You say that there were problems in their marriage, such as her alcoholism and the fact that she didn't love him. Did he love her? Is there any truth to the rumours about her bisexuality?
