Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use. Section 107 contains a list of the various purposes for which the reproduction of a particular work may be considered fair, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Watching all these dub comparisons really showed me how much background music can change a scene.
Tia Blue Ikr.
They're not menacing, they're goofballs, I don't know what's with the music selection.
@@decoy3418 I like it
@@decoy3418 Goofballs? Probably the strongest opponents at one point before goku saved the day. Just showed they were a serious threat. Not the corny music at the start, I would have switched that off ASAP and waited until frieza showed up.
Funimation: How everyone else sees the Ginyu Force.
Ocean: How the Ginyu Force see themselves.

😂😂😂😂
Funimation and ocean collaborated on the syndicated dub. Funi has held the license to the db franchise since 95
funi has held the dragonball license since 95 . They out sourced the voice acting to the ocean group for the syndicated dub. Barry watson of funimation flew to canada to oversee the voice recording. Saban was the syndicator, funimation wrote the syndicated dub episodes and shuki levy did the music for the syndicated dub. Funi couldnt afford the ocean actors after season 2 so funimation hired their own voice actors for season 3. ocean later did their a dub of the trunks saga onward .
stewie17 I think everyone knows that. Nobody asked.
The atmosphere in Ocean Dub will send chills down your spine even if you're an invertebrate
The perfect version of this would start with the Ocean Dub music, then cut right into Tokusentai.
Ans Jeice would keep the Hair Metal scream.
Jajaja
YES
GINYU FORCE RULES
SAMASzero uh no, cut out the Falconer
Faulconer didn't do any music in the Ocean Dub, it was Shuki Levy.
Jeice's voice in the ocean dub was fucking perfect
Brendan Flynn That I can agree one, his accent was fucken gr8
Yes!
Its the same actor of Piccolo right?
Fun fact: this is where him being Australian in the dub came from. Scott McNeil is actually Australian in real life; he’s a transplant to Canada.
Holy shit Jeice's power metal scream in the Ocean dub is fucking insane lol.
I'll say!
I admit Kai has better dialogue, but I love that Ocean tried to make this guys serious. I just like the music in this and the funimation dub also sound way better than the original/kai dub. All dubs have their charm.

And Captain Ginyu’s voice is better too.
I don't think neither one has better dialogue than the other I watched both versions and I find there are certain things that each one does better in terms of dialogue even Mike ocean dub has better dialogues here and there and then FUNimation has some stuff I found to be better
Kai makes them feel like Power Rangers 💙🤍❤️💚💜
Scott McNiel as Jeice just... makes the most sense out of all the VA's.
Because he literally is Australian. He was born there before moving to Canada as a child.
Gotta love that Scott McNeil metal scream
😂👌
IM RECOOME!!!!
Piccolo, wolverine, proto man, jeice...long live Scott McNeil. Funimation really should have picked him up
Ocean's voice cast is incredible.
+Mattdawson75 Their voices are freaking terrible! They didn't even play tokusentai! xD
Ghost Pix Tokusentai DID NOT EXIST UNTIL KAI. Unless you think they should've built a time machine.
@@snackeater4990 By that logic, the Original Japanese version sucks because Tokusentai doesn't play.
@@randomdudy1014 DBZ in Japanese does kinda suck.

Bleh. Yikes...
What have you done to my ears?!

The Ginyu Force
Each represents a special skill
1. Recoom- Strength
2. Burter - Speed
3. Jeice- Power
4. Guldo- Time
5. Captain Ginyu- Mind
Strength, speed, power, time and mind all together they are THE GINYU FORCE
Wouldn't jeice be skill that's what I've always seen him as
I always thought Jeice to be a KI specialist. Other than that he seems balanced between speed and power. I like the skill idea too.
It's a nice idea, but power and strength are kind of the same thing.
How is Time a skill? Wouldn't it be intelligence?
@@KingoftheOutback freezing time or manipulating time
It honestly works for both dubs:
Kai: A bunch of Goofballs who happen to be an elite team of dangerous killers.
Ocean: An elite team of dangerous killers who happen to be a bunch of goofballs.
Ocean has the best heavy metal screams.
Sith Destroyer Rigghhttt? Crazy how good it is.
The Ocean Dub will always be my favourite version of their intro. The episodes before we were led to believe they were this unit of terrifyingly powerful fighters (which at the time was sort of true I guess). And this intro was just perfect. Even though their poses were silly, the music and the voice direction the Ocean Dub went with was perfect to depict them as Frieza’s top kill sqaud.
"Ginyu."
"Jeice."
"Burter."
"Guldo."
"RRRECOMBE!"
"And together we are..."
"Totu sentai. Totu sentai! Totu sentai!!!"
"Sure feels like Zarbon in here..." TFS version
Ocean has the perfect Jeice voice, Kai has the music.
BlackChapters Kai has the corny music yeah
You realize its suppose to be corny right? They're basically a parody of Super Sentai (or Power Ranger in America)
It's funnier when you consider the original version of Ginyu Force Rules even has Tokusentai in it.
Ocean also has the perfect Frieza voice :D I personally like it better than the actual raw version.
ALP Jeice rocks!
Ocean’s actors are superb. Sadly in the TV series they’re limited by a Childish script and censorship. Only so much you can do there.
Although their dub of the first 3 films is immaculate

@LTC cherno THIS.
Not only does the Ocean Dub have better voice overs but even the sound effects sound much better. This is the DBZ I want to see on tv and/or streaming.
Though I prefer ocean for this. Regular funi also was much better than the abysmal Kai version.
@@tokenw1497 absolutely
I’m surprised Frieza didn’t feel disrespected when Captain Ginyu had his back towards him and then bent over, almost mooning him.
I’m pretty sure Ginyu lost a bet with one of his men and the loser had to do the moon pose on Frieza during the next meeting. Ginyu got away with murder.
I feel like the Ocean dub missed the point in trying to make them seem intimidating in their intro, considering that the Ginyu Force is a very overt parody of Sentai.
TheAverageGuyTAG the original dub was serious and things were scary on namek during this time. so to me, this made them seem like a legit threat that needed to be taken seriously. and ocean pulled it off perfectly
Neil Whitaker
My original comment is actually based on a minor inaccuracy, as I did not know at the time that the Ginyu Tokusentai/Ginyu Force Rules theme was an invention of DBZ Kai and not in the original version at all (including the initial Japanese version). My original comment would probably read something more like this now:
"The DBZ Kai version of this scene suits the Ginyu Force far better than the original, as I feel the cheesy nature of their theme song goes very hand in hand given that they're a very overt parody of Sentai."
Neil Whitaker Exactly. That's why he said they missed the point. Ocean dub was more intimidating when the Ginyu Force is supposed to be clowned on/ comic relief. Their intro should be more goofy.
TheAverageGuyTAG thats the whole point!
Justin Wadlington CO SIGN
3:47 one of the very best screams in the history of the franchise. Jeice straight up goes 80’s metal vibes.
0:33 Saban and Nickelodeon presents
I love how ocean dub always sounded so evil, like its definitely not supposed to be a kid cartoon vibe.
kai wins for the song and frieza's voice+script. ocean wins for WAY better ginyu force voices
I wouldn't say way better. Ginyu sounds so serious
Ocean doesn't win on anything. Not one thing.
Naw, I like Scott McNeil as piccolo more then sabat.

Not every Ocean voice was bad. I actually prefer their Burter, Jeice, Vegeta (it at least fit up until he turned goo...less evil,) and Piccolo. Everyone else? Eh...

Ocean Ginyu had the best voice ever.
Tyson Jones Yeah Ocean wins obviously
Tokusentai!
Tokusentai!
Tokusentai!
Tokusentai!
Tokusentai!
I think ocean still takes the cake for sayian to ginyu sagas.
Recoome actually sounds threatening with the Ocean Dub, as opposed to an idiot with Funimation.
Steven Sanchez That's kinda his character, but he still sounds like an idiot due to the script.
If they had the support the whole way through the way they had it during those sagas plus the uncensoring that was permitted later on, they would easily be the best dub. They just really had the best voice actors.
Ibn Khairuddeen (ابن خير الدين الألباني) I disagree. These actors may be veterans, but they don't give very good performances in the DBZ dub, though their performances aren't neccesarily "bad." They just lack the heart that the Funimation cast has now.
To be honest, I think both versions are fine. I kinda like both of them, for different reasons. Kai had more of a goofy tone, especially with the Ginyu Force, and the music for them was quite good. It also showed that they are more flamboyant, from what I hear they're supposed to be. However, the voices didn't really convince me. I thought Ocean was pretty good as well, the music added more of a suspenseful tone, and some tension as well. Though I understand why people love the classic Ginyu theme. I especially loved it in DBZ Abridged. As for the Ocean voices, I thought were more convincing. I especially loved the little roars they did, especially Burter and Jeice. I like the ocean voice actors for the Ginyu Force. To be honest, I actually don't mind Frieza's voice their either, in both versions. I thought the opening laugh in Ocean's wasn't half-bad, though I didn't really like the second laugh. But I do like Chris Ayers speaking voice better. The music for them, and their posing and behaviour, adds a bit of both a suspenseful tone at the beginning, and a bizzare tone at the end of their introduction. Then back to suspenseful again as the clip as a whole begins to end, and as Frieza's gives orders. I do of course really enjoy Ocean's soundtrack. It has a nice beat to it, especially here. It also adds an air of suspense and even intensity at situations where it feels there is something at stake. But I do think Kai's Ginyu Force opening gave more of a groovy funk to it. Both I think aren't half bad, but I prefer Ocean, due to having an interesting balance of suspense and a bit of bizarreness, and I do prefer the voices, for most members.
Though rewatching both, I quite enjoyed them, in different ways. The Ginyu Force theme in Kai added a very nice funk to it. It makes me groove a bit, in enjoyment. But I was impressed in how Ocean made a bit of a suspenseful tone with the introduction. The music added a lot to that. The voice actors did pretty good as well, I especially loved their opening roars/shouts, those were quite impressive. It added more of an air of suspense for how they were introduced. Both Kai and Ocean were nicely done in their own ways.
I'm the same way I can literally go watch something and find where FUNimation did a certain dialogue better and then I can watch ocean dub and see where they did a dialog better here in there I find them both to have their Pros in their cons and I like them both as well
I wish they would make a Blu-ray that caters to people who like the Dragon Ball Z FUNimation dub Dragon Ball Z Funimation Kai dub and the Dragon Ball Z ocean dub because I find all three dubs have they're pros and they're cons just put them in one DVD and Blu-ray and even make them where you can get each and make Dragon Ball Z Kai he also available in Japanese just so you can see what the Japanese dialogue for Dragon Ball Z Kai was I still like the Japanese version every now and again they could put that all on one DVD or Blu-ray if a feature that would be so cool can be the whole Dragon Ball Z collection

Ocean: Ginyu Force voices
Except for Ginyu
Audial Architect Kai: Nothing

Bogeham13 stfu already
Bogeham13 Ehhh, they where meant to be corny and kai perfected it
Audial Architect Especially captain ginyu's voice, when I first heard the new voice on funi I was like this is beyond bad.
They felt way more intimidating on the Ocean. Ocean Ginyu Force + Kai Freeza would have owned imo.
the ocean dub always had a really ominous soundtrack

Frieza's laugh in kai makes me love him even more.
I love his Japanese laugh "OOOOOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO"
kai did it better.
you guys seem to forget the ginyus weren't meant to be taken too seriously. they literally did rock paper scissors to see who fights who and offered each other ice cream sundaes after the fight.
so Ocean dub did make them look scary but thats not the ginyus. they are supposed to be a comedic group but super fucking powerful
Ocean dub was closer to the Japanese original tho...
almanacofsleep No it wasn't.
not meant to be taken seriously, friezas personal assasin squad only called upon in special circumstances none of his other fighters could deal with, each one of these monsters is twice as strong as zarbon and dodoria..LIES
Please shut up manga purist. Kai is worse for all the reasons you think it’s better.
VirginLoser Yes it was. Both had the serious music and tone going on for the entire thing.
Ocean dub wins on this one. I remember watching this for the first time. They legitimately made Ginyu Force feel like a threat.
Maybe the heavy metal screams did it for you.
@@alangatrell1001 You stick to your corny as* Dragonball kai.

Then they fucked up. The point of this scene was to take you completely out of what you'd been told about them.
The scene is fine, don't get me wrong, but the arrival of the Ginyus was supposed to show you how goofy they are.
@@Essu_ You can do both. Look at Majin Buu.
@@Lunarcheese72 Yeah..no. By the time Buu rolled around, we already knew that he wasn't going to be the final villain. There was going to be some form or someone else to rip the rug out from under him.

Then Kid Buu.
I personally live in Birmingham and I think that Ocean Jeice's accent is pretty accurate
Sure is zarbon in here
I see a whole lot of people saying "FUNIMATION WERE CLOSER TO THE JAPANESE CAUSE THEY USED THE THEME ITS SUPPOSED TO BE GOOFY". The thing is the ORIGINAL Japanese dub of this scene had music just as serious as the Ocean dub. The "Tokusentai/Ginyu Force Rules" song was made SPECIFICALLY for Kai.
Exactly.

But the original voice of Frieza is also here.
Yeah, ocean dub is the original.
the hair.....the voice, how could they remove that for jayce????
Going with Ocean for this comparison. They were spot o with the Ginyu Force voices.
And while I don't think any of the English Frieza voices do any justice, I actually liked Pauline Newstone's snicker before the Ginyu Force's intro.
I like Ocean Dub, those background music is so good.
funimation Kai: displays their quirkiness better

Ocean dub had better voices (aside from frieza to me)
But funimation kept the scene original to what it was in Japan, and played the ginyu theme.

No, the Ocean dub did not have better voices. That's your nostalgia blinding you.
I mean for this particular scene, I dont like ocean dub really.
***** ""Nostalgic" for not liking Chris' herp-a-derp Recoome instead of one that fits?"
You just proved you don't know anything about Dragon Ball and indeed are nostalgic for a bad dub if you think that the horrible old dub fit the characters better.
The Kai dub is how the show should've been dubbed in the first place by actually respecting the original version and simply trying to create an English version of it not dumb it down with dialog that doesn't even have anything to do with the original dialog let alone be atrociously written and bad voice acting.
"I'm talking about the voice acting, you moron."
And you think I wasn't? How bad is your reading? What are fucking 12? Are you still in diapers?
***** When did I ever say it was a perfect dub? Please find where I said that.
Yes, the Kai dub still has problems. You mentioned the King Kai voice which is still a big problem but he is imitating that Ocean dub voice actor so that means that the Saban/Saban dub was the source of that problem. Another problem is the names. They still use the incorrect names. His name is not "Kai" it's Kiao. That's why the move that Son Goku learns from him is called "Kiao Ken". Other incorrect names still being used are like "Tien" when it's "Tenshinhan", "Shenron" when it's "Shen Long", etc... however all of those again come right back to the Saban/Ocean dub.
That being said, the Kai dub is a MASSIVE improvement on the old dubs. I can for the first time actually sit down and listen to whole episodes in English where previously I couldn't even get past half an episode they were so terrible.
"Also, "what are fucking 12" indicates more of your childishness than anything here."
This coming from the kid that wrote "faggotry" in his first reply to me?? And you're surprised you were asked if you were a child? Hilarious.
***** Recoome is so terrible I can't stand to listen to him for more than a few minutes.
The only thing I really like in the Ocean version was Jeice’s Metal ass scream. Like Jesus Scott McNeil really murdered his vocal chords there didn’t he. Seriously Jeice’s power Metal scream I’m laughing at more than anything

Shut up you fucking manga purists. Ocean took your childish Japanese manga and made it something both kids AND adults could appreciate.
Kai is terrible BECAUSE of all the reasons you think it’s better.
i can remember only having enough money for a vhs recording of up to the start of the goku ginyu fight as a kid.
so thats what i watched on repeat for 2--3 years, before i got to see the funimation dub which was fine after that.
peak childhood
I like both. Kai was hilarious. While the voices are good for what they are. I think part of the reason they shouted their lines here was cause of the music. I don’t think it was necessary but hey I don’t know. The song is pretty funny. And after they say their names I like the way the backgrounds are. Almost like they had that energy in them.
The Ocean Dub did give a more threatening vibe to them. While they are goof balls at the time they were very powerful. Jeice voice and scream is awesome. Nothing against the Kai actor he’s a good match as well but Scott McNeil nailed it perfectly. One thing that hurts the Ocean Dub is the backgrounds. It’s just a flash of a color and it wouldn’t surprise me if a kid got a seizure after that. Also Frieza actor really felt stiff in that scene.
Overall both are good in their own ways. Now if the Ocean Dub could have finished and not skipped episodes to play catch-up

Ginyu Force voices - Ocean
Frieza (first form) - Kai
Ocean has the best voice over on the original so it wins. Im Recoome(Echo) Ching It still hits like my childhood hood i love it. It made them actually more intimidating. Made when Goku took them out more epic instead of clownish. Their Metal screams were epic. Ocean Dub is true dragon ball z, the background music, the voices, the intensity...it's just perfect
I remember when I saw this episode for the 1st time back in 99 and I thought, "man, this Ginyu force is bad ass, how are Goku and the others beat them?", then later on those same guys got Yamcha'd by Yamcha, and then another one led a amphibian army.....but nonetheless, Ocean Dub gave characters such a bad ass voice and have them depth

IT's a half win on both sides. Original (Ocean) had better voices, lines/dialogue, and coloring; Kai had a better/funnier theme song for them, and better flash background after their name intros. So it's a tie for me. So I say mix them together Ocean's voices, lines/dialogue, and coloring with the ginyu force rules theme song and color backgrounds. Then we have a real winner. The HD coloring on Kai sometimes was just plain horrible, Kai didn't need to happen.
Funi only kept in the Japanese theme and dubbed it badly. That doesn't count.
Both dubs are good and did an excellent job.
You forgot the original Funimation Dub version:
(Deep breath) "I'm RECOOME!"
(Hisses) "BURTER!"
"Ohhhhhhhh yeaaaaahhhhh...I'm JEICE!"
(Snarls) "GULDO!"
"CAPTAIN...GINYU!"
"Now..."
"You..."
"See..."
"The..."
"Power..."
"...OF THE GINYU FORCE!"
(Cue flowery pose and gust blowing sound effect)
(embarrassed chuckling) "...Well...that's quite an entrance, boys..."
Lol
Even the little sound effects of the hatch opening and steps sound good on the Ocean version
Jace Ocean dub is godlike lol. That metal scream
FUNi is more comedic in the best way, but I have to also give Ocean credit for the way better and exaggerated yells. And of course, those glorious strobe effects.
Yes...and I’m glad you’re here
I love how funimation doesn’t even acknowledge they’ve changed voices for everything like 60 times and people still pay for it. If you were to ask funimation why they changed it, they would pretend like they didn’t know what you were talking about. Not everyone needs to be voiced by Chris Sabat.
ocean dub wins
Kingomega No shit
Funi wins

Ocean dub is way better, by the way. Even the background music is way better.
YearZeroNIN That's some nice bg music to demonstrate the meant to be goofy charaters.
"Ooowwwoooooooooooooowwwwww. I'm Jeice!"
Oh yes you are! 🔥🔥🔥
I think we can all agree, Jeice is best as an Australian
*Space Australian

Kai music fits them perfectly
Cream, Butter, Cheese, Yogurt, and MILK.
Now if only we could combine the Ginyu Tokusentai song with the Ocean version. The Ocean version definitely had the best voices for the Ginyu force. By reputation the Ginyu force are to be feared but they are also meant to be silly and over the top. Although in some respects the initial menacing tone in the Ocean dub isn't completely off because to be fair the original Japanese version (not Kai) had somewhat serious music when they arrived too. Still would love to see the Ocean version combined with the Tokusentai song.
*Ginyu force theme starts playing*
Me: *Dances and strikes the legendary poses*
Okay, i know this opinion is not gonna be popular, but honestly i feel Kai did a majority of the cast better, i'd say Burter and Jeice were the exceptions
I like how everyone fights about the different dubs and which is better and then people fight about dub vs. sub and then people fight about the background music but even though the original was Japanese, all English versions somehow agree that Jeice is Australian.
Legend says that The Day The Ginyu Force arrived on Planet Namek the manliness levels of the planet reached an all time high. So high that planet Namek could not handle it and started to tear itself apart. And that was the real reason Namek was destroyed.
Ocean dub hands down
Damn, and I thought Jeice was enjoying himself a little too much in the original Funi Dub. That’s a lot of passion to pull off a scream like that
Well I see you Ginyu Force Kai version makes me think of a cereal commercial.

It makes sense for their characters though, since they are supposed to be a parody of Super Sentai which is why they introduce themselves in poses.
Easily the best thing in kai
Maria Teresa Reynel *Easily one of the worst things in kai
Bogeham13 stop being so butt hurt dbz is dbz no matter what
evol soer253k No it's not stop lying to yourself and me
I gotta say, I prefer the Ocean version of this scene here, and that's not nostalgia talking. The Kai scene is great, but the whole "Ginyu Force Rules" song turns it into a farce. In the Ocean version, you have this rather intimidating backing track playing. You see these weird looking aliens appear out of nowhere, screaming and posing like Power Rangers. It's both intimidating and funny at the same time. The Ginyu Force can be comedy relief villains, but they are also meant to be cold-blooded assassins. The Ocean introduction captures this much better, while the Kai version makes them look like clowns.
