At least it has a chance of being restored again, in 1997 the owner tried to restore it properly to its former glory respectful to its heritage. The controversial "Historic Scotland" was the only organization to block the restoration claiming vandalism. At what point do we wait to restore things before they are gone forever. Its in a dangerous state of falling apart if someone does not restore it.

Visited castle Tioram twice in the last five years. I have also paddled around it.
Tioram in Gaelic means dry. It’s very special and invokes a lot of thinking about the Gaels, their culture, language and lifestyle.
It’s not an easy road to drive down to Dorlin from Acharacle as the road is single track and very twisty.
I think that it should be restored as a home as the alternative is just another crumbling monument which Historic Scotland will state it doesn’t have money to maintain. A ground floor museum and perhaps venue for local schoolchildren to learn their history would be a good thing.

I love this series guys! Watching you two is so much better than weathering the snow storm that is whooping Canada right now.
I just watched a man on TV climb to the top of a 6' snow drift on his street, in Newfoundland!

Happy to provide a distraction! Stay warm over there, we're still waiting for winter to properly arrive in force!

    Great video thank you.
I spent all of my childhood holidays in Ardnamurchan, usually at Newton in Ardtoe and Castle Tioram was always a highlight. My brother and I used to climb all over it although that's a long time ago, well before the metal gate and the hard hats which never seem to move were installed. I learnt to swim there although I wouldn't want to dip my toe now. Unbelievably cold I'd imagine.
You filled in a couple of historical blanks for me which were interesting.
I think it should probably be left as is other than any crucial structural works to make it safe. For a start how would you make the road passable for more than the small number of vehicles which visit now?
I've been visiting for over forty years now and never plan to stop. That view when you turn the last corner and the bay is laid out before you is magical.
More people should see it but maybe not too many. This place should never become mainstream, it's too special.

Have read that Christina McRuari ( I hope I've got her name right) and Robert the Bruce were great friends and any time he needed help she was there for him , I don't know if they were lovers , but I'm sure he was more than happy to have her support when he needed it

Your right about the peacefulness of this castle, on. The day our guide and my family visited was overcast and it had an ominous look about It. However was sad to see someone had used the beach for their garbage dump, so despicable

Furious to hear that Marie, disgraceful stuff. There are obviously a lack of facilities out there but that's no excuse for whoever did that. That aside though, it is an idyllic spot...with a lot of atmosphere!

What a beautiful story. Your videos are fantastic. But we don't have that much time to follow all your tips... in two weeks... ok we're planning three weeks... or four... next year?

Thank you Susan. In 3-4 weeks you'll be able to see a huge amount of Scotland, but it would take months to see it all so don't overstretch yourself. You'll see links to our websites in the video description with lots of inspiration from all over Scotland to help you narrow down your choices - but I think we'd both agree that the west Highlands are a must 😉
