    Hey Jeff , awesome filters , I am building a static barrel to start same build as this , do you have heights for intake / output/ drain holes and length for how high to go up with the shower drain height once u add that 90 that work out well I don’t want to guess , thanks this would be a huge help! I plan on adding 3 cubic feet of k1 to a 55 gallon barrel, thanks again!

    Great filter and explanation, I’d love to pick your brain on building a bog

      I've run several different bog configurations. All work, the main detail with ALL bogs is to never feed them solids.

    Love your video, Jeff. Just curious how much K1, K2, K3 would you need for a 3 drum system. Thanks

    Great information. Couple questions if you don't mind. The 1st drum water inlet...do you prefer it enter the bottom or mid way up the drum? Do you have the feed line to "swirl"? And I assume the exit lines are mid to higher point falling to the next drum lower points? Thank you in advance.

    • @jeffakamax
      @jeffakamax  3 года назад

      Inlet to the 1st drum is about 10" from the bottom with a slight radial flow.
      Out flow drop half way down from drum 1 then shoot straight through into stepped down second drum, etc.

      Great. Thank you so much. Trying to piece together information to build new system for my mess and have found your information the best have seen! Thanks again. I may come up with another question or two if you don't mind.

      @@jeffakamax Hope you do not mind another question. The K2 in the first drum... is that all you have in there media wise? I have seen where people install varying grades of stone as the media in drum 1 and curious if the K2 is all that may be needed. I am going to build a 2 drum system as my pond is in the area of 800 maybe slightly more ( I will be using your meter idea to determine) and figured on the K1 with some bio-balls in the second moving drum and questioning the material for the first drum. Thanks again.

    Couple of questions, a am building the three barrel system per your design. I have one 3000 gph pump to run the system. If I connect the retro drain to that pump I will loose the action of the skimmer box where it is currently sitting. What would you suggest? Install another pump to use the skimmer and run it separately to the waterfall and bypass the waterfall with the barrel system and run it directly into the pond? The weir is puny so I have filters in the skimmer box. Also, you mentioned the uv sterilizer in your skimmer box, does it sit there or is it connected to an inlet and outlet?
    Thanks again for your help and any suggestions!

    • @jeffakamax
      @jeffakamax  3 месяца назад +1

      Having separate pumps for your skimmer / waterfall and your barrel system will be a better way to go. My UV light just sits in the back of the skimmer box.

      @@jeffakamax Thank you for the info. One more question, what wattage is it? Is there a max or minimum? And how is the bulb protected? Is the housing off it? The water flow in the skimmer is sufficient for it to be effective?(Oops, a few more questions than one) thanks again for all your suggestions!

    How did you connect a leaf basket to your submersible pump?

    • @jeffakamax
      @jeffakamax  3 года назад +1

      A standard pool filter leaf basket will thread right on to most larger pumps with a threaded 1.5" output. I have a few underwater videos that should show it.

      I do have a video with detailed built instructions on my channel. I thing you're describing string algae? If so, pretty much any other vegetation will out compete algae for nutrients and keep it in check.mlarger koi will also eat it if you cut back or stop feeding for a bit.

    Would it be worthwhile adding another leaf basket to the pump that feeds the waterfall? Thanks for your suggestions

    • @jeffakamax
      @jeffakamax  3 месяца назад

      A leaf basket before any submersible pump is a good idea. If memory serves, wasn't your waterfall fed by your skimmer?

    • @linda-bagobones75
      @linda-bagobones75 3 месяца назад

      Yes Jeff, you are correct about the waterfall being fed by a pump in the skimmer box. The amount of debris from the oaks around my property tends to overwhelm the skimmer. I am emptying it two to three times a day. Another leaf basket in there might be redundant. What do you think? Thanks for any suggestions!

    • @jeffakamax
      @jeffakamax  3 года назад +1

      Shoot for 2.5ppm at first. Shut down any biological filtration. Mix the appropriate amount of pp in a 5 gal bucket. Add to the pond until you get a light pink/purple. Keep adding slowly as water turns brown to bring the purple back. Total time should be 4 hours. Neutralize with 1qt peroxide per 1000 gal. You need a lot of aeration during this process!
      Make sure your dosing is correct! Exceeding 4ppm can be catastrophic as can lack of aeration. Once neutralized, leave biological filtration off for a few hours then you can resume normal operation.
      The neutralization process is pretty amazing. Watching the pond go from brown to clear in 60 seconds.
