    Hi Terry, another great video, thank you. As you know, I built a filter on your design and it is working great, the only issue I have is the amount of pond sludge on the bottom of the pond, with the water fairly clear I invested in a pond vac and gave it a go - big mistake!! I managed to disturb the sludge (probably my fault) and the water is back to pea soup!! I guess I should have concentrated on a small area, so demoralising having a pea soup pond again!
    This is why I won't be modifying the intake as you have done on this vid just yet as I am convinced it will block up which may damage the pump if there is no flow (not sure if I'm right saying that?).
    Keep the vids coming mate and thank you for all your advice and help.
    Barry

      Barry Spiers Hi m8,
      Don't worry too much, all that dirt has to go and the sooner the better. it will soon clear again. I would give it a day or so and clean the filters. Use a brush as I did in my video to clear any that has settled on the bottom of the filters while draining. Use your pond vac to do a part water change, that will help. don't worry fish like a bit of mud. You can put some pond safe in while adding the new water to protect the fish. Your going in the right direction m8.
      Terry.

    Hi Terry, really enjoy the videos, it would be nice to see how you mount the
    UV light.

      Hi Jeff, and thank you. Good to hear you enjoy the videos. This is quite an old video, but I used to have my UV in the main line from my submersible pond pump, just before the filter. This is my latest video of the pond and setup I have today ruclips.net/video/GtYeX29t7mU/видео.html if your interested mate. Take care, Terry.

    Hey Terry, another great video. Lots of info in this one, love it. I added about 300 bio balls to my static tub with the K1 media. Seems to help with the media moving around. My moving bed is still very hard to figure out. Glad you seem to have found a salutation. With the air stone the 3" pipe back to the pond seems to block the air and media tends to settle above it.

      Ron Yelenich Hi Ron,
      How you doing m8. Not sure what you mean by "With the air stone the 3" pipe back to the pond seems to block the air and media tends to settle above it" Can you send me pic's so I can have a look m8
      Terry.

    • @steelersgod

      All it is, is the return pipe to the pond is in the center of the tub and 90's out the side. Media seems to build up above the pipe where the air also goes around the pipe.

    Hi Terry I have ordered all the parts required for your filter system so should be able to get started pretty soon. Just one question, on your first video you had the pump feed going to the top of the first tub but on this video they are at the bottom. is there a reason why you changed them?
    All the best
    Tony

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  9 лет назад

      ***** Hi Tony,
      When I first built this system the first tub was a swirl tank and the inlets were near the top of the tub. But now I have it as a static media tub so the inlets have to be at the bottom so they don't move the media. Good luck with the build m8.
      Terry.

    Hi Terry,
    Just a thought but to tidy the cleaning pipes at the bottom of the barrels would it be possible to add the valve first out of each barrel then link the barrels so there is only one exit drain pipe or is there not enough room for that?
    Thanks for the videos they are very informative.
    Paul

      Paul Newby Hi Paul, Yes m8. that's what I've done on the new system. If you go to my website diypondfilters.com and click on the picture of the new filter on the home page, it will enlarge and you will be able to see what I have done there. Thanks for your interest. I'm always open to suggestions.
      Terry.

    well definitely the pro system, 1 question would I get away with the barrel level I.e on the Base the opposite way round so the highest one on the left with me having a raised pond

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  8 лет назад

      Hi Richard, Not a problem, you can turn it round to face the other way. If you have a raised pond you could also build it gravity fed with all the tubs on the same level if you wish. You can contact me on pondfilters@gmail.com which might make things easier for you. Terry.

    Yer I collected my 3 Barrels yesterday I could only get 220 Ltr, hopefully there not to over board, what plan would you recommend for me to buy off your website

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  8 лет назад

      Hi Richard, They'll be plenty big enough. With them you can either build the Mk1 Master filter or the new Pro filter which I have on my pond and I must say I love it. Here's a couple of videos showing the two different systems. The Master System: ruclips.net/video/dFhNBq_dycw/видео.html and the Pro system: ruclips.net/video/b4T8TkRTXAo/видео.html Terry.

    Just read that post on K1 and air, makes sense, mines on a timer so may give it a whirl (excuse the pun!) a couple of 1/2 hour stints during the day, off at night.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  9 лет назад

      Barry Spiers I was talking to someone the other day and I was going to start turning mine of at night. Then he showed me that post which confirmed it. Trouble is my nitrite is at 0 anyway. But I will see if it makes any change to the pond tests. Plus it will save on electric.

      Hi mate, I do still have the Master filter plans on my website, but there has been several updates to this filter system as this is quite an old video. It was updated to the Pro filter system which you can see here: ruclips.net/video/b4T8TkRTXAo/видео.html
      This has now been updated to the Pro Mk2 which you can find on my website diypondfilters.com
      Hope this helps. If I can help further just give me a shout on pondfilters@gmail.com Terry.

    i was interested in your PH and KH results? im noticing in an all plastic environment ICB and plastic drums for filter that i cannot keep my KH up even with limestone/ dolomite and shell grit in the sump filter? i can only think the k1 media works that well the the bio process eats away at the carbonates. anyone experience anything similar?

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  2 года назад

      Hi mate, I've used plastic in my filters and media for 8 years now and have only had a problem once with my PH when it crashed, which I believe was my fault.
      Other than that, I've not had any problems with KH or PH. The tubs are food grade, and the media has been used in household water purification for over 25 years. I don't think it's the plastic that's causing your problems. Thanks, Terry.

    • @triplex7144
      @triplex7144 2 года назад

      @@Wrighty what is your main tank made from? Concrete pond? Maybe that keeps pH up? I can only guess the Boi media working efficiently and eating away at the carbonates? But the buffering should want to create some sort of equilibrium in my mind but it's not happening in my case.

      Hi mate, This was a rubber liner pond, it was quite a few years ago now, as this is an old video. I now have a new pond and run a homemade RDF. I'm hoping to release a new video tomorrow, where I do explain my full filter system. Thanks mate, Terry.

      Mark Foulston Hi, about 50 ltr if you have a big fish load. you can reduce it if not many fish. I would start with 40 ltr and see how you go.

    Does this filter prevent water changes?

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  6 лет назад

      Hi Shawn, whatever filter you have on your pond you should always do 10% water changes weekly as its good for the fish. This system will remove any ammonia and nitrites from the water which as you will know, ammonia is dangerous and released into the pond by the fish waste. It will also give you good clear water. There is an update on this system. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/b4T8TkRTXAo/видео.html You can find more info on my website diypondfilters.com Hope this helps. Terry.

      Wrighty yeah I was going to do it into aquoponics to so I was wondering. I like the system. Last one I did was in a green house. I was killing fish left and right. Thinks it do to the rapid water temps messing with the ph

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  6 лет назад

      Hi shawn. Going into aquaponics should be fine. The update of this system has been built all over the world, so you know its been well tried and tested. I ran it on my own pond for 4 years without a single problem. I have since built my own RDF. This system gives filtration equal to Nexus 360 filters. You can find plans for this system on my website. Thanks mate, Terry.

      Hi Mark, Sorry I've not answered only RUclips's not letting me know when I have comments.
      This is not easy to answer really. depends on your fish load and each pond is different. I would start with 30 ltr in each tub if your fish load is light. you can always add more if need be.
      Terry.

      @Wrighty  8 лет назад

      Hi, I run salt in my pond all the time and have no problems. If you overdose with salt it will kill the plants.Terry.

      Yeah.. last week i put in 2kg of salt per 1000ltr of water due to sick koi. My kois is doing fine now. My water lily is dead now. Lesson learn.

    • @Wrighty
      @Wrighty  8 лет назад

      Your lily could survive. I've found that it does knock them back if overdosed but they usually survive if put in fresh water.
