Great tutorial, easy to follow and to the point! Broke my long installed game by trying to update it so I used this method instead (I didn’t do the folder thing before), worked like a charm. Also, thanks to the folder link method, you can actually install and use the other language voicepacks which is HUGE for me!! Normally you can’t because it will moan about there not being enough space.

@lehry100 btw, genshin appears to officially give an error on linux/steam deck through proton. This can be fixed with this from reddit: Before launching the game, head to settings (cogwheel icon) > properties > launcher options > type in “-platform_type CLOUD_THIRD_PARTY_PC” (remove quotation marks). Offline launch now works without the Abnormal Activity warning popping up. Turn off wifi > click play > wait for warning to pop up > reconnect wifi > click confirm.

Is it still safe to keep playing GI on steam deck? I don’t want to play on my phone too much coz it needs the AC on when playing demanding games.

No one was ever banned yet, I'm always looking at steam deck subreddit genshin always claimed that they do not support linux as a platform and people had been able to play for a long time, its just this first time that this error occurred. I'd say play at your own risk

My only concern if what to do if there is a launcher update. I tried doing it standalone and it made me close the game due to the launcher needing to be updating. I dont mind using no launcher btw it gives better performance!
Just add the hoyoverse launcher.exe as non steam game + add proton. Make sure to correctly locate the game in your desktop or link the folder to the compat data as shown in the video if it didn't work.

This was the only tutorial that got the game to run for me but now the problem is that I can’t login bc whenever I do it says “server error, try again later” I’m about to give up on this endeavor. Is there a solution to this?
I've never encountered this issue before and none of the people who commented here experienced it as well. Maybe it is a problem with the game itself or your connection. I'd suggest disabling wifi power management on your steam settings in developer options and see if it helps your connectivity if that was the issue.
@@brittanyk9577 I looked it up a bit and seems to be an issue with your ip communicating with the server. some reddit posts I saw involves ios and pc and they had to reinstall and some people had to use wifi and not data connection to be able to play the game with this type of error. Lastly, some suggested using vpn. Again, no other people here has had that specific issue so I cannot 100% provide a fix. Edit: i suggest doing the other easier steps first before reinstalling cause it took me hours to download lol
Make sure to allow viewing of hidden folders by clicking on more options in the top right corner. The dot on .steam hides it. You can also locate it by going on your steam, selecting a game that is on the same drive as what you used for genshin and click the cog icon. Select browse local files. You would be on /steamapps folder and you can go back to the previous parent folder to see compatdata folder.
If ive already done this, how do I adapt the same video to install ZZZ using the hoyo launcher? On the select installation path it says 0.00kb available. (Z:\home\Desktop\Genshin\HoYoPlay\games\ZenlessZoneZero Game)
Make sure to have enough space and link it properly to the c drive in the compatdata of the installed launcher. That way, it will detect it properly. It should be detected on C: by default if you linked it there and installed it on your ssd

That way, the UI will work with touches like a phone too. You can also just google the term if you want to see a guide.

I mentioned in the video that in order to update, you'd have to add the launcher.exe from the folder where you saved it instead of genshin impact.exe as it bypasses the launcher and therefore wont be able to update. I hope this helps

You can eat, i cant remember if its on right bumper or left that if you hold, the choices pops up. Make sure that once you are in there, enable the controller as it is defaulted on keyboard controls on pc.

Make sure to "link" the folder by dragging the genshin folder to the proper compatdata folder of genshin in steam. once you linked the folder from desktop to the compatdata, genshin would be able to read the folder location.

@@Systemerror22-v9w if it sends you back to launcher to download again, it means that you didnt link the folder from desktop correctly. It should be the option to "link here" and not copy/cut the folder to the compatdata. This is done so that when setup.exe is removed as non steam game, the downloaded game wont be deleted since it will be saved on compatdata by default.

You need to make sure that -you saved the game on desktop as shown on the video -linked the folder correctly -added the .exe inside the the saved folder on desktop as non steam game

no need to be in big picture mode. I just did that so I can still record with OBS. the keyboard there is a bit buggy. try going to gaming mode and launch the game and follow the steps and you are ready to play :)
I haven’t watched the video yet, but does this help with updating the game? I just deleted Genshin off my steam deck because I couldn’t update to 4.7. I had to reinstall. It’s annoying and I don’t want to keep doing this over and over. I also heard that “an anime game launcher” can get you banned, so I want to do it natively through proton.
You can follow the tutorial and add the launcher.exe instead of genshin impact.exe This way, you have the option to update it anytime but there will always be a launcher.
I tried opening launcher.exe in Steam but after I clicked, the Play button changed to cancel for a few seconds then changed back to Start and nothing else happened 😢

If it cant locate the game, you just have to link the game folder again to the compatdata of the genshin impact launcher. That way, it will locate it inside the launcher itself and no need to download the game again

It should automatically detect that you have a controller and if the option isnt there, try restarting the game and see if the option pops up. If not, just make sure that you are in gaming mode while doing this since desktop mode is a little bit wonky. Plugging an external controller or connecting a wireless one may also help if you have those around. I'm sorry but I've never had that issue with my steam deck and genshin before.
On your Firefox, head to settings. On general section, scroll down and you will see downloads. You can click on browse and select your removable device and select a folder there (you can create one).
If you are going to install it on your sd card as well (i dont recommend due to speed), you may do the same steps but create the folder on sd card instead of desktop then link it to the compatdata folder
Instead of adding the genshin impact.exe the launcher.exe is needed. after that, simply launching it will prompt you with its normal launcher with options to update :)
That only happens if you didnt link the folder from desktop to the compatdata properly. Check your desktop folder for genshin and see if the game is downloaded there. If it is, just locate it from the genshin launcher or just add the .exe of genshin impact to steam to play it. If its not then you may have not linked the folder from desktop to the compatdata as shown in the video.
The steps work for any non-steam games, its just the installation interface that would be different. I have "quacked" games installed on mine using these steps

It's not working anymore, when you are in game it says abnormal activity is running on your device and it will advice you to restart your machine.

You have controller for the basic actions but no buttons for upper selections like map, inventory, etc, i cant even eat

I WANT TO CRY SO BAD I LITERALLY DID THE SAME BUT THE GAME DOESN'T LET ME SELECT THE CORRECT FOLDER

I don’t know what I did wrong but when I go to launch it I just get a continuous steam logo with the blue ring spinning around it and it never loads.

Using genshin impact.exe alone will give you a launcher-free experience but it wont be able to update
Using launcher to launch the game will use launcher every time it needed to launch but can also update the game easily.

Nope, been using it for a long time. No ban. Before, yeah and when using virtual machine but now its no longer an issue
@@silver_einherjar so im trying right now to do it, but now its done with hoyoplay. And when i open the installer, my Steam deck mousepad stops working.

@@sh.a2102 the steps is prettyuch the same thing. Whats important is linking the created folder from the desktop to the compatdata folder as shown in the video. The step works on any non steam game
