5:37 Nintendo has a particularly loud & high amount of hardcore fans even compared to most other fanbases, at the very least this applies to Pokemon where like half of the entire fanbase dedicates their lives to defending Pokemon and GameFreak from any criticism no matter what, often to the point of delusion out of sheer bias. Not even referring to the BBND thing specifically, it's just how the fanbase became.
One thing that it would be cool if the Pokemon Company did was add a mode where you can battle any rental Pokemon against any other rental Pokemon like the Stadium games but for every generation. Also, does Battle Revolution for the Wii have a standalone Free Battle mode with all Pokemon up to its generation? Just curious.
If you ask me, the best things that could be done are to revise outdated copyright law (some things they took down might not have qualified otherwise), and to convince Nintendo that by shutting down tournaments and taking down mods or fangames, they are costing themselves money through impressions (every one of those is an online reference to, or a public performance of an older game they published, and thus that they received with no labor on their end). In my opinion the best way to get a company to change their business practices is to convince them that they are costing themselves money. Also, mentioned by screenshot only in his video, but Nintendo also would be wise to re-release all games that were region locked in their initial period of commercial exposure. In addition, the whole dislike and intersectionality argument reveals that not everyone who engages with a company gets the same experience. If all you do is mod, hack or emulate Nintendo games, or play competitive Smash Bros, then you will face Nintendo’s copyright wrath. But if you are only interested in playing games they release in the current moment, then you might have a more favorable experience. Of the negatives listed, Joycon drift, and a couple overpriced items are probably the biggest negatives for consumers of their contemporary products. At least that’s what I think. What do you think?
Good video I didn't realize how bad the 2nd half of emplemon's video was when it came to sakuari and nintendo fans. He's usually pretty good when it comes to research and being fair with his critisms, this is the only video that seems like it's a bit of a miss.
21:39 I don't understand what your point was with comparing that clip with EmpLemon arguing that dislike-bombing isn't justified earlier! He wasn't advocating for it, he was showing the double standards of Nintendo fans, whining over the inclusion of another Fire Emblem character despite their whole "You can't dislike-bomb Nintendo on an unrelated video to show we care about the bad things they've done" spiel!
I havent watched EmpLemon since he had a meltdown over idubbbz banning a guy who kept making sexist comments about women, his wife, and collabing with Sam Hyde. But I have to say, I was impressed by EmpLemon's other videos for the research and perspective he gave, so it's disappointing to see that his main argument for why Nintendo fans are bootlickers is because some RUclips videos didn't have a lot of dislikes and some Nintendo fans were annoying under his tweets. No forums? No (trending) tweets? No Reddit comments? Not even Tumblr posts? There are a million ways Nintendo fans can congregate and discuss things, treating RUclips dislikes and tweets responding to *only him* as the only factors for determining the wider Nintendo fanbase opinion is ridiculous. It does not take a lot of work to look for what Nintendo fans are saying and what they think. Refusing to look past his tweet replies and RUclips just reads as childishly spiteful and closeminded.
I think my big problem with the video is that there really isn't much nuance, or when there is some he takes it the wrong way. Nintendo doing things like letting joycon drift be a thing, charging more for games than they probably shouldn't be charged for, shutting down Smash tournaments, etc are all things that Nintendo fans have been pretty clear on with not liking or supporting. But since they are willing to still support the company with games that they like, it means they are willing to let these things happen or don't care about them. Also doesn't help that many Nintendo fans in general are casuals who might not even know of these things, so many of the Nintendo fans that either call them out or shill them are minorities anyways

To clarify, Sakurai (and Nintendo themselves) has given plenty of other quotes post Brawl smash games to highlight their dislike of competitive smash and why they will never fully support it.
I would like you to provide a link about Sakurai saying stuff like that during the Ultimate era in recent years, I haven't found anything like that. As FC has already mentioned the work done on how the online modes work, he doesn't seem to be against it just because he doesn't support it. Afaik, he has only said he sees Smash as a party game instead of a fighting game, that doesn't mean he's against people who play it competitively, having a different perspective on something doesn't mean nullifying other people's perspectives. There's a reason as to why character patches also existed, not to mention the way the training mode also works now while showing hitboxes, I-frames and lines that represent knockback. Even if he didn't like competitive play, he's still not the one pulling direct moves towards the competitive scene, he's a game director, not an executive.

Your video needs a lot more views. It was a well researched video, but it was largely made on impulse and him choosing what he wanted to see. Pretty baffling that he can’t distinguish the difference between casual and hardcore fans either. Also, the HUGE irony the video was supposed to address toxicity of Nintendo discussion made discussion worse
Emplemon made the video to demonize those who rightfully pointed out how idiotic his Sephiroth vs. Byleth take was on Twitter. It was a very immature move to begin with, so the misinformation was likely intentional.
I think it's very easy to side with the Emplemon video because it is pretty cathartic seeing people bash the nintendo fanbase when they are incredibly obnoxious and childish, and by childish I don't mean that they like products that are aimed at children, I'm talking about their behavior, like how most mario fans respond to the most minor amount of criticism towards the mario movie with an endless entourage of whining. That being said I've always had a couple of major issues with the video. There's an undoubtable level of bias with his hatred towards the nintendo fanbase, and you know what, I can't completely fault him on that, I'm the same way with the Star Wars fanbase where the small time I was trying to interact with them, my entire experience was tarnished and bludgeoned with an endless amount of obnoxious and the toxic people that ruined the series for me, so now I have a chip on my shoulder with the series and the fans, so I can understand having a bias with a fandom and it being difficult to hide your disdain for them, but at the end of the day if you want to make a professional piece criticizing something, you have to be impartial. My major issues with the video is that he pretends that everyone seems to turn a blind eye to nintendo fans being obnoxious and that he's the only one who feels this way, when before this video Nintendo fans being hardcore shills was a massive meme. You had people like Someordinarygamers and Critikal who talk about and criticize Nintendo fans the instance any time Nintendo does something scummy. A majority of people acknowledge that Nintendo fans are some of the worst when it comes to the bad side of the fandom, so the notion of people not acknowledging this seems disingenuous. Another issue is with his sephiroth section, where he paints the picture that all he was saying is that people shouldn't forget what Nintendo has done just because they put out a product people are happy with, however his tweet read like he was aggressively insinuating that people who clicked like on Sephiroth but dislike on Byleth were all braindead consumers, regardless on how they felt about the current situation with Nintendo, and considering that he said this on TWITTER, a place that brings out the worst and knee jerk reactions of people, it's no wonder it wasn't received well. In fact I'd argue that his tweet actually made the situation worse because now it made people defensive about liking a product, so instead of someone potentially being happy with the Sephiroth but upset with how Nintendo has been (which you even saw with people like Keef Crew), people were now happy with Sephiroth but thought this take with the situation criticizing Nintendo was bad and insulting, and thus the outrage ACTUALLY died down. The final problem I have with this video is that he paints the entire situation in a black-and-white subject, like the only reason that nintendo is continuing to do this is because of the fans. While I do think they have a partial responsibility, we forget how out of touch Nintendo really is, and no amount of protesting will change them or really any other company. His thesis is to the treat Nintendo just like every other company, but that's exactly what people do. Most people point out and laugh at Nintendo whenever ghey do something shitty, with a few dumb fans defending everything they do and overwhelmingly get mocked for, and Nintendo never learns, which is unfortunately just the state of the video game industry, even Zero Punctuation himself has a video series called "let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything....... tee hee hee".
This is probably the most critical comment I’ve seen, although there are questions I do have as well as putting in some stuff here that should also be known. The last bit is true. Especially when we take a look at Nintendo from where it’s from, which is Japan. From what I’ve learned, they’re extremely traditional, which holds a major factory in this situation that it would run more deep than simply the fans. Especially when this was Nintendo from the beginning as well, at least from what I’ve heard. But this is a whole other factor that should be looked at in depth because traditions aren’t a Nintendo only problem. The whole Sephiroth bit is true as well. Especially for those who actually read the tweet and are self aware about Twitter. But this is where my first question comes in because I don’t necessarily know where else he can say this tweet if this situation could’ve been avoided. Especially when many other social media websites have their own problems like Reddit. From what I’ve seen, don’t tweet the thing at all, or find a place where to hold discussion with people who have a stronger grasp. Except for here on RUclips. In fact, this comment section is here to make sure of this, but I’m not sure that’s enough, especially given the timing of things and how Emp released this video when he would also be working on other projects when this video was released in between other documentaries which is surreal to think about. I’m not sure about the protesting thing because of the melee tournament thing where people were outraged over that decision to where Nintendo actually did listen, so credit where credit is due. But I don’t think from what’s going on here is that Nintendo won’t take a whole lot of criticism like that anymore as of right now, especially now that dislikes are gone, and even when they do, some of what has been addressed isn’t all that good. One of the reasons why I believe this is the case is because of the fact that Nintendo is at their peak as of right now. Considering the fact that the Switch had made them so much money that they don’t know where to spend them at. Another reason is the games and the services themselves. A bunch of changes has been done with the Expansion Pack for example. Bugs have been fixed, textures have been tweaked to look like the originals as much as possible, the inclusion of many games as well as the Sega Genesis games and GB/GBA games officially coming out, it’s starting to become a reasonable deal. However, games are still being delivered at a slow pace, Button re-mapping hasn’t been improved, and the online experience for N64 games is still a laggy mess. This is the online service. For an actual game, I would recommend Nerrel’s TOTK video as it holds my criticism here. I was about to say then myself, but this comment is getting too long.
You seem nice. I was expected to run into bad arguments but I can say this was a good critique of the situation and Emplemon. I like the guy but I do know he doesn’t get everything right. Keep in mind, I’m not a Nintendo fan but I can say there are some extreme fans, and not just Nintendo fans.
Yes. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and a huge EmpLemon fan. I happen to know EmpLemon really likes Nintendo, or at least their content. EmpLemon likes a lot of the things. RUclips itself, for instance. But he is not shy from pointing out the clear flaws that his interests have. EmpLemon is far from perfect, and has had a particularly bitter bias toward some of his interests, and that can scew his arguments. That's why it's good to have a second opinion from people like Freezing Climber. Emp is an intellectual, but far from perfect.
Personally, I like the funny Admiral Ackbar downward spiral man. He's well-spoken, well documented, and makes entertaining content. of course, he doesn't always get everything right, and some of his videos are opinions. Besides, with the Nintendo bit I see where he's coming from but it does come off weird. Plus a lot of fans of anything can be hostile. That's at least my takeaway. Anyway, I'm glad I ran into your content completely by accident, it's good keep it up dude
if you want more on why emp is this harsh on Nintendo as a business, i recommend this video that might explain his view more: ruclips.net/video/r_7jLI1qO4Q/видео.html&ab_channel=EmpLemon
I’ve seen that video before, and quite frankly I think that whether he intended it to be or not, the whole Nintendo video was an endorsement of copyright reform because most of the things he criticized them for are related to how they approach copyright. I think his copyright trilogy videos are the three best videos he’s ever made.
This video continues to age really well and explains a very good point, No one should harass or attack anyone for being a Nintendo fan or for saying something positive about Nintendo. Even know Nintendo themselves have flaws. "It really shouldn't be a crime to be a positive Nintendo fan nowadays, I shouldn't be called a dickrider, or a bootlicker because like 99% of the things Nintendo does, even when I can admit there flaws l've been called a bootlicker for liking these games/consoles wtf". - LillyLiliaceae
The thing is this. it's perfectly fine to like Nintendo even as a company just don't idolize it to the point of not accepting any criticism and basically harass and attack anyone who dislike Nintendo. Nintendo like every single thing in existence have thier own ups and downs, and that's OK to be honest. Same thing goes to disliking Nintendo it's fine to dislike too as long as like you said don't harass anyone who is a positive Nintendo fan and call them "a dick rider" just as long as they don't worship Nintendo like some god.
@@I_Exist557 Exactly and good point right there, I also may be a Nintendo fan but I don't do Nintendo all the time and I'm also PC and Xbox. You do explain a good point and I agree with your response! 👍🏻
To be honest, even though it's been a while since I've regularly watched Emp's content, I still feel bad throwing shade at him, knowing that his style change happened as a result of toxic gatekeeping and elitism within the YTP community (with youtube's changing policies forcing him to bury that period for good). That said...yeah, his takes tend to dip into questionable territory every now and then. Like when he mindlessly labelled r/woosh as a cringe subreddit based on a shallow, disingenuous interpretation of the subreddit's content (after a video where he used a copypasta that originated on an actual cringe subreddit, no less), his inconsistent stance on using the word "milennial" to disparage the younger generation (where he complained about how minimalist logos appealed to milennials a while after a meme review video where he took an aside to complain about the same word), or the general snobbishness that he ended up encouraging which made his whole "meme reviewer" period really quite obnoxious in hindsight. I don't hate the guy - I mean, I can't hate someone who wears their love of prog rock on their sleeve as much as he does. But it's way too easy for me to lose interest in regularly watching him as more of his iffier takes come out, and his Nintendo takes are no exception to that. His RUclips Geographic series is still solid stuff, though.

The dexit drama was caused due to mistranslations and way to high expectations just because it's the highest grossing franchise in the world, while ignoring the fact that most of the money comes from the merch, not the games. This video sums up my feelings of that video pretty nicely. The first half kind of feels like the same arguments people have been saying for a while, but I still agreed with them. But the second half makes me actually angry, the narrative I got was "Every Nintendo fan is a braindead drone who defends and excuses every single "bad" thing they do.". It's basically your standard "Why X is bad and you should feel crappy for liking it." type of essays just with some Simpsons clips added in. The truth is, people do criticize these decisions and practices, basically everything in his "They could..." portion was meet with a good chunk of backlash expect for the animal crossing island thing I guess. I'm pretty sure only like 5% of those people are doing this defensive behavior he proposes in the video, and they usually tend to be mocked. Also, I love how any clip of that video is sped up, it makes him sound like a pretentious Minion. I makes the video sound slightly more bearable to me for some reason. Especially the aforementioned "They could..." part. That was the most aggravating part of the video aside from the bit where he basically called a guy a loser for owning a switch. Anyways, great video response, I hope your channel grows some more.

I’m gonna say it. Emp’s video felt like a Dunkey video made by TheMysteriousMrEnter (Cynical instead of sarcastic or trollish). Not defending Nintendo, but I sure as heck won’t defend his video. People love to make fun of Nintendo fans who preach Nintendo, yet those same people chose to base all their opinions on Nintendo and especially their fans, on what EmpLemon said, when many already described him as an unreliable narrator. Kinda like how Dunkey’s fans base their opinions on a game on his, despite a large amount of his criticisms come from playing a game from a genre he doesn’t like. Made even worse from the fact what those people know about the game, are only presented through Dunkey’s scewed exaggerated way. Long story short, EmpLemon is part of the problem
Yeah, The biggest problem I have with his video is his fans will tend to harass and attack anyone for saying something positive about Nintendo even though they have criticism towards Nintendo as well.
Anyone who cites Dunkey(love the guy btw) as reason for not playing or disliking a game is shooting themselves in the foot due to the man's inherent tounge in cheek nature. If he makes an extreme claim, nine times out ten, he is exaggerating in some way for absurdist sakes. Not to mention said extreme statements don't happen as often anymore due to him just mellowing and maturing as an indvidual. Add on to that the fact that his opinions change radically time to time(he hated Death stranding on launch, said it was the worst thing ever, now he likes it). You don't go to Dunkey for super indepth crituques on whether something is GOOD or not. You go to Dunkey to either get funny fast paced reviews that tend to stick the landing for a person who's thinking about picking the game up, or hell, just want to hear his opinion cause he delivers it in a way that's so damn entertaining.
I don’t see too big a problem with this. Sure some people will take it as gospel and take an opinion just because someone they liked said it, but some people just make an arguement that I agree with.
@ It REALLY doesn’t help that his points were flawed. (Blaming it entirely on the fans when the die hards you run into online are a vocal minority to the casual fans)
Yes, yes, and yes! EMPLemons video makes a lot of good points about Nintendo themselves, but his over generalization of Nintendo fans is pretty problematic. Not to argue that the most extreme Nintendo fans aren’t ridiculous, but for every ridiculous comment you’ll find online by fans of a company like Nintendo, you’ll probably find at least a few reasonable comments that are drowned out on a place like Twitter because they wouldn’t catch people’s attention, and you’ll probably find that there are some reasonable fans who don’t type any comments on a place like Twitter and thus you’d not come across their opinions online. Most people would probably agree with Emp about Nintendo’s views of copyright ,roms, and modding being too strict, and that tournaments of Melee shouldn’t be shut down, and simultaneously enjoy some Nintendo games for what they are, but you are perhaps less likely to encounter such people on Twitter because it appears that the most knee jerk reactions get the most attention (correct me if I’m wrong). Side note: If you ask me, Nintendo’s actions illustrate how out of date digital copyright is and that that should be reformed (they are wrong to go after people, but if the laws were revised, some of those violations might not even qualify to begin with), and that if you convinced them that esports are a more lucrative investment for them to be in, then they might be open to smash tournaments.
That doesn't mean that anybody should support their blatant hate for their own community

I agree, Let's spread the video to help him get more views and get more people to know.
Emplemon made the video to demonize those who rightfully pointed out how idiotic his Sephiroth vs. Byleth take was on Twitter. It was a very immature move to begin with, so the misinformation was likely intentional.
@@MegaDude10 What was the video called?
@@M64bros "The Sacrifices of the Church of Nintendo".
@@MegaDude10 makes me appreciate this video a whole lot more
I think it's very easy to side with the Emplemon video because it is pretty cathartic seeing people bash the nintendo fanbase when they are incredibly obnoxious and childish, and by childish I don't mean that they like products that are aimed at children, I'm talking about their behavior, like how most mario fans respond to the most minor amount of criticism towards the mario movie with an endless entourage of whining.
I do think Nintendo is the one of the few to likely learn the most.
It’s true that directs are like pacifers for the crying nintendo fans most of the time but it’s just twitter

I’ve seen that video before, and quite frankly I think that whether he intended it to be or not, the whole Nintendo video was an endorsement of copyright reform because most of the things he criticized them for are related to how they approach copyright.
I think his copyright trilogy videos are the three best videos he’s ever made.
@@fortynights1513 agreed, copyright lobbying and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race
This video continues to age really well and explains a very good point, No one should harass or attack anyone for being a Nintendo fan or for saying something positive about Nintendo. Even know Nintendo themselves have flaws.

Thanks for discussing this, I left with a pretty balanced perspective
A question. What is your favorite Nintendo Game? Mine is Hyrule warriors but Legends Arcues is up there since it realised.
