@@brentlegg4895 hey man I’m going to school in a few months. How did you do after you graduated ? Did you get hired right away? Was it a good or shitty job?
If you worked in the oil industry long enough you'll have the Hustle mentality, it's one of the things you respect about folks that have been around long enough. We are out here getting it.
I AM PUUUMPED ,doing my tig pipe coarse now and will finish by the end of the year here in Australia. Stick coarse next year, one day i hope to travel to the USA and CANADA and do some pipeline work/welding, Thanks for the helpful tips and wise words Austin.
That’s awesome! I’m intrigued you are in Australia. I would love to work in Australia! Sounds like you have a great start to the industry. Keep up the hard work.
Will do man, the certification is AS 1796 -7 it covers pipe and pressure vessels. we do a 2G & 5G test on 4" at the end of the year as well as a welding theory test. Y'all welcome here man,its a beautiful place.
This guy has amazing things to say.. things that really help guys... now, for the guys who fail to get into pipeline welding and still want to make decent money.. your gonna have to switch gears to either shop welding or shutdowns and turnarounds.... and it's a geographical location thing... so I can only speak for the central U.S. ... the highest pay In central US is either tulsa,OK or the Beaumont,tx area... those shops pay 30hr and up... you can away try your luck at double time company like swat or UPS but it's super hard if you don't know anyone.. just understand if you lose a chance at pipeline.. you still have options welding pipe and making money.. and still get the opportunity to go pipeline later down the road.. don't go to Houston lol they have thousands of welders and that is the reason places pay so low in that town.. facts
I am a junior in high school. My dream is to be a rig welder!!!! I live in Texas and am planning to go to Tulsa Welding school in the summer semester of 2022 this video was super helpful!!!
i ran an Oilfield Rental Tool Co. for 24 years and i can tell you 100% for certain i NEVER hired anyone over the phone, period. i would tell people that when they called me as well. get cleaned up, make an appt. meet the boss make a good impression with a firm handshake and eye contact. God gave you 2 ears and one mouth so you should listen 2x more than you talk. lose the profanity and always address everyone as Sir and Ma'am whichever the case may be. you only get one chance to make a good first impression so make it count. love the channel Austin keep it up. i started as a welder/mechanic at $6.75 in 1980 and worked my way up to District Manager and retired in 2004 now i Gunsmith from home and work part time.
I just have to say that your content has helped me out a lot and has showed me what to expect once I get out in the field, I’m in Highschool and I take welding classes daily and have gained a passion towards welding.but besides that I just wanted to say thank you again!
Definitely pumped! I’m 21 started as a mig welder making exhaust systems for BMW. The past 2 years I’ve been a combo pipe welder and stayed loyal to a company that gave me a shot in the field. But I finally got some connections and have a big job starting off in august in Ohio. I hate to leave everyone that taught me what I know but they are all happy for me! I’ve been watching your vids for awhile they have always been inspiring! Great video!
I’m in high school welding classes in high school and he knows people I’ve been talking to him about welder helper because he wants to be a welder again.
Awesome video Austin. Been keeping up with your videos. Just gaining experience as you say. Went to welding school and worked in the refinery for a while now working on the railroad. Already got me an old 2nd gen dually and an sa200. At 20 yrs old. The best advice you’ve gave is just gain experience.
Yesir, thanks Austin. Right now I'm on my second pipeline job as a helper, and now my weldor and I have an opportunity to go work on the Trans mountain in British Columbia. It was a god given coincidence that we even met in the first place.
I’ve got 4 years welding experience mostly structural and fabrication. I also went to pipe welding school but got complacent at a structural welding job. I want to weld on the pipeline now and I am willing to be a helper to do that. Do you know anywhere hiring for a helper?
I never done any kinds of pipe line work but I'm very interested and I have no problem starting at the bottom as a helper or what ever I need to do to learn and one day advance and one day make a career. Now I am 42 years old and I'm sure that's a very late start but I willing to do what it takes!! And advice such as this video is great! And any other advice will be very appreciated!! Thank you for your informational videos
I have been working at my first shop welding job going on my second year, I wanna get out there on the pipeline, I only have mig and flux experience and a little stick welding from the trade school I went to, honestly got some cold feet on wanting to step out but I don’t wanna give up on my dream of the pipeline
Welded all through highschool, switched to turning wrenches on equipment, and dying to get into this, got a job 2 weeks ago wrenching on compressor stations hoping it gets me closer! Just building my truck for now
Im so thankful I was able to get into 798 as a welder right out of school, and I already am lined up for the ACP in Nc, so thankful I got the chance to prove myself honestly for anyone who doesn't know what to do, listen to Austin...
That is good. Sounds like you are very grateful for the opportunities you’ve had. Even though you had the opportunities you still had to prove yourself. I like that. Solid. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
Right now Im just waiting for a job to start up Hopefully ACP, Iv talked to Terry for sometime now and I think he is going to get me on it as soon as they ask for welders:)
Great video and the general message applies to all self employed people in any job and country. One thing I would add is to stay positive and diminish any negative impacts so they don't get into your head which is not easy. Good luck to all.
Hey bro I just found u here. U and I think the same. I’m a plant pipe welder. I started like this as a helper and worked my way up. I have been welding for 8 years now. U have to stay in a positive mind set. Nothing in beneath you. Even as a welder. I blow people’s mind all the time because I’m willing to do anything when I’m not making a weld. I love your channel. Keep up the good work and hard hours
6 months into a metal fabrication apprenticeship, also doing an evening welding course to get extra weld time. I hope once ive finished this course and have some money saved up i can make the dive to move to the states!
Great stuff man! This is exactly what I had to do! I cold called at least two years (no calls back) finally got down to Texas working for mechanical companies, ethenol plants, power plants, refineries... finally met enough guys to get myself as a helper. Definitely a huge pay cut, but as my mom says “if you love what you do you won’t work a day in your life” I’m hoping to break out soon!
Lots of welding work in Texas. I love it. I've worked in the oil feild for about 4 years but never stick welded. At 45, I either need to get my butt in gear or stay in the shop. Theres good money to be made in all welding types.👍
Currently a student at Tulsa Welding school in Houston and just started my 5 in 5G pipe today, im truly excited for my future and what it holds, thank you for the video!
@@arosswelding Love watching the videos dont know yet if I wanna stay local and gain experience in the shipyards and then move to pipe or go in as a helper straight out to then move towards becoming a pipeliner, either way it is gonna take some years.
In welding school now, and working at a mechanic shop. I'd love to work on the pipeline, but that's gonna be a ways down the line. However, I've seen at least 2 pipeline trucks going through the shop, so I reckon I'll just start talking to people.
Hey I have been thinking about welding for a while and right know I’m a freshman in high school and I have always wanted to go into welding and resent my I’ve been thinking about the pipeline and I had no connections nothing and I didn’t know what to do and bc of this video you helped a ton thank you keep it up!!!!!
Been welding for five years now all up hill on pipe no down hill yet. But very interested in learning the art. Picked up a machine to teach myself. Watching and learning from every one I can. I have xrays under my belt more passes then fails lol. So I know that feeling of failing.. I want to get out there but have no guidance. Start burning rod down hill this weekend hopefully I’ll pick it up quick. If you are ever in my neighborhood Craig Colorado. Let’s brother n law some pipe in my drive way lol. Take it easy out there and God Bless!
I am most definitely ready to start trying to chase pipeline jobs, I've got welding experience. Always kinda been a goal of mine to own my own welding rig and chase that pipe
getting ready to leave advanced training i have pipe experience here at the job corps so im good there, im going to head to North Dakota here in a while to become a helper ...THANKS AUSTIN FOR THESE TYPE OF VIDEOS YOU HAVE HELPED ME OUT A LOT. TO KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN I LEAVE JOB CORPS ..
It takes years. From commercial structural to building erection oilfield and yard maintenance etc. To Refinery and shop. To shipyard experience. Its a long fun rewarding Journey.
Austin: I've watched you videos for couple of years now, and this one tops them all. Not saying the others are not good, they all are. This video reflects exactly what you are saying. You been making videos in the same way a helper learns. Now you've "broke out" and this one makes you famous (in the video market). Best wishes and good luck to you and your spouse. Lynn / OKC
Austin: First, I'm 76 years old, and still work today. I have a small welding business doing little dabbling on light stuff. Fences, gates, light trailer repair, ect. I also drive a school bus to help out the community. I agree with your suggestion to start out as a welder helper. I got into welding as a welders helper back in 1958 when I was in high school. Worked summers out in the field and the trenches for Superior Oil. Their welder tought me a lot. Then after I graduated high school I went to college and discovered after two years that it was a waste of my time and money. College is not for everyone. I went back into welding and wound up doing that for the next 15 years as a living. Later venturing out of welding and into other businesses. The older you get the tougher it gets. I really appreciate you giving your time to the guys who are interest in getting into the welding field. You are a great ambassador to this industry. Respect you young man and best to you and your spouse.
If you wana start in the Oilfield business, just start some where like a roustabout or a swamper, just take a note that it’s all weather conditions. Once you start of you can start going to locations either to drilling rigs or to Frac sites, an a lot of welders go, start somewhere. Specially on frac sites once frac leaves welders come an they have to set up their battery tanks, oil separators etc. just start somewhere. Good advise Austin.
I started right after high school into roustabout then right after I went to pipeline I been there for 6 months i want to get into helping but cant find and it's really really slow at the oil fields
I’m currently a junior in high school and want to weld after. I just started my first welding class this week. Thanks for the tips want to step back and look and have a plan so when I walk that stage I can hit the ground running. Appreciate the tips
I've been watching a ton of your videos lately. I'm currently working as a Sanitation Collector (fancy words for trash man haha) and my stepdad just so happened to work with a company in natural gas. He said it really took care of him and I'd like to eventually work the pipeline. I've already called and gotten a potential interview with a contracting company not far from me to at least get a start somewhere. I just wanted to say thank you very much! Your videos really inspired me even more to take the leap forward and start doing whatever I can to get my foot in the door. I'm very excited for whatever the future holds! :)
Watching this because in 2 months I start welding in highschool. I might be 4'10 and almost 15 but I know I want to do this I know that I can be helpful. Just got to prove it
Hey thanks so much for your videos you have Ben teaching me new things every time I watch your videos I Ben working at a restraunt for last three years. Finally getting a chance to work as a pipe line helper thanks for all your inspiration
Love your videos! I start welding school in a few days. My goal is to be on the pipeline. Years from now when i finally do I'll let you know. I watch every single one of your videos. So much knowledge to soak up. Thanks man, keep up the good work!
I’m a weld it to work guy in the woods I did work on a pipeline back in 2009 it was great but I’ve been a timber faller most my life around fire fighting and the military but none of that pays enough to feed a family so I’m going back to welding it’s about the only other thing I really like to do I’m a really good grant writer and accountant but I just hate dealing with the people that are in charge so welding it is I got a job helping at the local welding shop for minimum wage at night and on weekends but it’s really nothing more then what I’m already doing in the woods and in a county of 9500 people there isn’t any other options within driving range I already am sleeping on the ground at my normal job cutting timber even in the dead of winter in -10 I’m under a tarp so I hope to get into a full time welding gig soon that’ll feed 4 kids
this is helping me as a 13 year old ive been looking into this job so much but this has helped me so much and still looking into this today ty for your content man love it
Tip #2. I agree with not buring bridges but as far as taking a step back in pay to get a better gig..? I'd add in that if you have a family and are supportive its your job to bring home money. Great advice
Im pumped to find my next gig I dragged my last one because I was welding all galvanized metal ... ive never traveled before but it seems like that's where the money is I just don't know how to go about finding the best way
Txbassmaster96 it’s not really wasting 4 years if you choose a good path. Of course if you go into a math degree, kinesiology degree, etc. it’s worth it. But of course if you get a arts or philosophy major yeah it’s a waste and you’re not getting a job. A lot of people bash on people who go to college, but mathematicians, doctors, and physics individuals make more money than welders, truckers, entrepreneurs, etc. you just have to know where to go. Same as welding.
I was born in Watford city lol,I'm from mandaree the heart of the Bakken,I went to school for welding and got picked up by the ironworkers,I've been out here at home welding braces for caissons to fix a road,I see all the rigs driving around and been thinking about a career change but dont want to leave this opportunity I got with ironworkers. Someday maybe.thanks for the video
I'm pumped, starting welding school TODAY! I've got about a year's worth of aluminum mig welding experience but that's about it I'm hoping it'll help me as far as experience.
I’ve watched quite a few of your videos, great content, you really help out a lot. I’ve been out of welding school for a few months and I haven’t really landed on my feet. This video has given me more drive and hope than before
Biggest hurdle, finding a welding school, living where I do (oregon) there’s not many welding schools that have good reviews. So that and trying to save.
you are very appreciated, my biggest hurdle to even try, is presently I am stuck in a dead end job, & my wife wont let me walk away until a few bills are paid off next year, right now it takes both of our incomes, & when I get a couple bills off, I have her blessing to hit the road & pursue this, so she can make house payments even if I have zero income. I know I am a very good welder, but 0 experience on pipe, I am good with stick, MIG, & torch, & once was ok with TIG. when I was in college I was the best welder in my class, but I didnt want to pursue, I just wanted to work on cars, but I have always loved welding I have not been practicing, unsure if I should with a electric welder? or just wait until I get my vintage Hobart pipeliner welder going, as I know will be completely different welding. but I usually go back to normal no matter how many months I haven't welded within a few minutes of practice. so use 1 of my electrics to practice? or wait a few more weeks? depending on what else I got to do to the welder.
Thank you so much for advice I’m in a high school welding class and love it my teacher let me cut some pipe and sand it some and tacked with mig in two shop days next day I’ll get to stick it
BEST ADVICE I'VE HEARD SO FAR AS A WELDER, now I don't know if you can read an answer all of these or not however I'm gonna try. So I've been welding for 15 years now got my certs in a trade school but never used them, so could you tell me how I'd renew them and start my career as a pipeline welder? Hope this reaches you, thank you for your video.
Austin....good job with your new channel....this is a side of you we have not seen before....I worked pipeline in my younger days...my favorite job of my life. I encourage guys to try it and you have the right advice...Downside is your significant other not wanting you on the road....If you love enough, find the right mate in life before you get too serious...Keep up the good work...your goal, always be the best guy on the job...so that boss calls your first on his next job...and enjoy the winters off and the great retirement plan...and new trucks and great, close brotherhood that Austin is in...
Take advantage of any connections that your welding school has! It got me in at a shop that does a lot of tube bundles and I'm hoping that my experience there will be attractive for a future employer somewhere down the road. I might need to practice my grinding to be a helper but hey that's cool. Hustlin'
I’ve got 4 years welding experience mostly structural and fabrication. I also went to pipe welding school but got complacent at a structural welding job. I want to weld on the pipeline now and I am willing to be a helper to do that. Do you know anywhere hiring for a helper?
Great video . im a structual welder and fitter i do alot of side jobs im well known in town i work now at a shipyard doing aluminum and steel but im in Lafitte Louisiana not much pipeline work around but im intrested in getting into pipe welding just to accomplish another career opportunitie. Great videos and yes i started from the bottom and your never to intelligent to learn something new .
Just got a construction job as drywall/framing and I want to become a welder so I’m always looking at tips and anyways I can get knowledge on how to do that as a job. My yard is right next door to a Pipeline welder yard. I want to go over and introduce myself and start meeting people so I can learn anything and everything about this trade so I can be the best. Videos like this always help me thank you
Man I graduated from welding school 2 years ago and I’ve been taking AutoCAD classes since then. I really enjoy that but I would love to be a pipeline welder and bring in racks. I’m about to start MIG welding for a trailer manufacturer in my little city Paris, Texas and see where I can go from there. My favorite process to use is TIG it’s fun to finesse that bead and make it perfect
Haces buenos videos, nos gusta la soldadura y todo lo que tiene que ver con la herrería,reparación de mantenimientos instalaciones y detección de fallas eléctrico industrial y residencial. Fontanería instalaciones y reparaciónes.
Man I just want to get out of the job site and get some hands on experience. I'm more than willing to start at the bottom of the totem pole. All I want is the chance to learn and improve
I love watching y’alls channel, I took a leap and I’m gonna start boilmaking monday on a turnaround and traveling around on the rollercoaster. This is one of my favorite videos, thank you for all the information.
Love how realistic this video, as well as all your videos are. New to the welding seen still in school and fresh to the trade. Got mig and stick certs and a couple interviews lined up already! Been watching your videos a lot and they’re very helpful. Wish more foreman and shop hands were as realistic and optimistic as you are. Keep on keeping on brother!
I started with a 120 contacts. Always would talk to Rig welders to and from Yards Oilfield etc. Always new where the opportunities were. Stating out. Also tracter trailer oilfield repair. Yards. Etc.
Great video, stuff like this help me to keep my goal set and motivated me to keep working for it, its not an easy journey but if you really want it eventually you get it, first God I will be a Pipeline welder .
sometimes i feel like people don’t take me seriously i have put a lot and i mean a lot of work and money into building my own little rig. i’ve got a decent welder nice tools and i drove a lot and i see lots of businesses and trucks drive past with no care. most people i feel and i could be wrong aren’t like you. i have lots of welder friends and they help a lot but not enough where i can actually get somewhere.
I just got out of a stick welding program. I could never find a stick job because i need job experience. I never thought about being a pipeline helper. Id rather help someone stick weld, than do MIG
I’ve been a heavy equipment mechanic for 12yrs now I have my own truck all the good stuff. What’s involved in being a mechanic out there on the right of way.
Mechanics normally stay pretty busy on most jobs. They keep equipment going, changing filter on hoes, dozers, sidebooms, and just usual maintenance. And of course just fixing things that breaks and whatnot. Prob a lot of what you’re use to.
Man I just come across your stuff hell I really never comment but long story short:: raised on the farm did 4 years in the military and straight to CSX railroad after that - been there 10years freight car welder/fabricator/maintenance -certified in stick w mig /flux experience. They shut our shop down contracted the jobs out wife left me I went from 30.03/hr to right now $14/hr doin maintenance w a small company and I am HELL BENT AND DRIVEN to get on the road and head somewhere and he’ll even w my work experience with same material and welding never been in that actual pipeline atmosphere so to speak. I’m single father 33 and can travel I’ve looked on indeed I don’t know who or where to try and even show up to be a helper cuz or I would in a skinny min. I’m from SC if anyone reads this and knows anyone or anywhere I could be given a shot or how to get a chance out in Texas somewhere please respond starting over after layoff is rough but I work hard outgoing don’t mind grunt work. Need a opportunity. Thanks and god bless fellas. Oh yea. If I had to I’d come work a day or 1/2day just to help no charge for a working interview so to speak ..Preciate it
Man I love your content, this will help me extremely, I’ve been learning at votec ( kiamitchi technology center ) and I’ve been meeting and talking with my welding teachers buddies, I’m going to be a pipeline. Thank you Mr. Ross for your helpful content!!!
I'm down in Pecos, tx.. I'm just breaking out. The biggest hurdle for me so far is trying to chase these tests, and hitting yards. and being in a town where they eat your money up. On a limited amount of money. But its bologna and pb&j sandwiches until I pass a test and get that first check!! Lol.. but until then. Ima be in good ol' west Texas. JUST CHASIN' THE DREAM!!
My biggest hurdle is not doing great with stick welding pipe in school and not having enough experience to get an opportunity at a great welding job or a foot in the door. In 2 weeks im getting laid off cause of the covid19 pandemic and I wanna keep welding. Not doing something just for money to pay my bills. I really wanna travel, make some per diem and perfect my craft most of all
20 yo british guy here recently moved to Texas 2hr east of Midland Odessa thinking hard and researching deep into what I want to do between rig floorhand or pipeline welder helper but I always come back to welding be it pipeline or rig eventually, been working 2 jobs 16 hr days 6 days a week for 3 months straight to train myself on hours running on 6hrs sleep or less to now working standard 9hr shifts in the heat in west Texas mostly heat related work (blowtorches, hot tar machines) to train myself on heat also going to the gym on my lunch and after work to train myself of the psychical aspect I've saved up 14k within a year since I moved here to buy a good truck and rv cash right now to make.the final prep for this work just shopping for a 3/4 ton pickup first thing then the trailer I've already made my mind up that I'm doing it and i don't doubt my capabilities but part of me is still worried about something not going working like not finding any decent work where.im not drove to work back to back 15-20 hr shifts like someone I know knows, which isn't safe at all and most people only make it through with drugs which I'm staying as far away as I can from as I'm starting a new life here I just hope it pans out I sent out an application today to a hands on college for pipe welding just to enquire further, I've got the right attitude and commitment I feel it's my purpose being here in the US I'm willing to shed blood sweat and tears for years and years if it means il have enough money to figure out a way to retire off of this money maybe buy huge plot of land in cash and do something start a company buy and sell houses who knows all I want is to make use of my psychical ability lack of social life no family commitments ECT.. while u still can and secure myself an amazing stress free life later on all i feel like i lack is proper inside knowledge of where to go what to do ECT.. oil rigs pay more I think? Pipeline is more humane hours I feel and a safer more drug use free.enviroment but less pay to begin but is pipeline going to get me up to welding fast do company's pay for training i have no idea any of this I have the need and drive but feel like the only thing I have is the ability to make descions
I'm currently doing a welding course. Only recent, I've currently got to do theory before I'm able to come to do any practical. I'm not 100% sure where I want welding to take me as of yet. I've heard pipeline is the highest you can go. I've never doing anything similar before always been a tech guy and thought I'd try doing something with my hands for once
Austin....most people today only want the end result...they arent willing to do what it takes to get there. I wont go into my background, but I did what it took. Then years later guys were constantly asking me “how do I get a job like yours?”. They simply wanted the position, but they couldnt stand back and see the path to the job. They werent willing to hike off the beaten path, through the trees, across the creek, and up hill to get to the view at the overlook. They just wanted the tour bus trip to the view.
Take a step back to take a step forward....when you want something bad enough and you humble yourself enough to do this....its life changing!!!
I couldn't agree more. Are you reading my mind?
yes mam. feels GREAT to...
Just starting no experience no school just good old common sense and a good friend to take me in ima be the best perfect every time
Im a helper now. My welder let’s me use his machine on down time and boy do I go at it!
This is awkward question but can you help me get out there

I am 20 years old and to learn from a school and from you welding oil pipes thank you ❤❤
This guy has amazing things to say.. things that really help guys... now, for the guys who fail to get into pipeline welding and still want to make decent money.. your gonna have to switch gears to either shop welding or shutdowns and turnarounds.... and it's a geographical location thing... so I can only speak for the central U.S. ... the highest pay In central US is either tulsa,OK or the Beaumont,tx area... those shops pay 30hr and up... you can away try your luck at double time company like swat or UPS but it's super hard if you don't know anyone.. just understand if you lose a chance at pipeline.. you still have options welding pipe and making money.. and still get the opportunity to go pipeline later down the road.. don't go to Houston lol they have thousands of welders and that is the reason places pay so low in that town.. facts

Love it! 👌couldn’t agree more. Thanks for sharing.
I just have to say that your content has helped me out a lot and has showed me what to expect once I get out in the field, I’m in Highschool and I take welding classes daily and have gained a passion towards welding.but besides that I just wanted to say thank you again!
I’m 17 and in my last year of school. And just started watching the channel.
How is it going with the ohio job?
I’m super thankful my welding teacher has helped me to get my foot in the door, he has guided me on my way🙏🙏🙏
I’m in high school welding classes in high school and he knows people I’ve been talking to him about welder helper because he wants to be a welder again.
@@Carolbaskin23 It’s slow in western Canada supposedly
Starting welding school last month. Finally moved on from gmaw to smaw. I enjoy it a lot.
Are you off work right now? Waiting on a job to kick off?
I love it! That’s exactly what I’m talkin bout. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
Lots of welding work in Texas. I love it. I've worked in the oil feild for about 4 years but never stick welded. At 45, I either need to get my butt in gear or stay in the shop. Theres good money to be made in all welding types.👍
Can you put me on sir
Currently a student at Tulsa Welding school in Houston and just started my 5 in 5G pipe today, im truly excited for my future and what it holds, thank you for the video!
That’s awesome! You bet. Thank you for watching.
Lynn / OKC
Thank you. This means a lot. This lifestyle can be crazy so whatever we can do to help. What do you do for a living? If you don’t mind me asking.
What is a roustabout and swamper?
good advice for beginning welders, doubles as life advice
I never welded but i want to and i start welding classes in 2 days and Im super excited, i want to go as far as possible with this
Right on. Your encouragement and influence are greatly appreciated
Sound advice. I've been a tubewelder/pipe welder since 91. If you put the time in it'll happen. Don't try to start at the top
I’m currently a junior in high school and want to weld after. I just started my first welding class this week. Thanks for the tips want to step back and look and have a plan so when I walk that stage I can hit the ground running. Appreciate the tips
I live in North Dakota we get to meet people from all over the United States because of oil field pipeline welders
That’s great to hear! Thanks for sharing. 👌😎
Missing my last year in welding class...now it’s time to start my journey to begin.
I’m a weld it to work guy in the woods I did work on a pipeline back in 2009 it was great but I’ve been a timber faller most my life around fire fighting and the military but none of that pays enough to feed a family so I’m going back to welding it’s about the only other thing I really like to do I’m a really good grant writer and accountant but I just hate dealing with the people that are in charge so welding it is I got a job helping at the local welding shop for minimum wage at night and on weekends but it’s really nothing more then what I’m already doing in the woods and in a county of 9500 people there isn’t any other options within driving range I already am sleeping on the ground at my normal job cutting timber even in the dead of winter in -10 I’m under a tarp so I hope to get into a full time welding gig soon that’ll feed 4 kids
this is helping me as a 13 year old ive been looking into this job so much but this has helped me so much and still looking into this today ty for your content man love it
So young and yet already working maybe there is still hope for the newer ones
Hey I’m pumped, I landed my first welding job for Foster Farms, but it’s my foot in the door for welding.
Thanks for the tips man. I’m only a freshman, and I’m trying to get as much knowledge as I can.
AMEN BROTHER! It's almost like toppy been talking straight to me every video for the past few weeks
Tip #2. I agree with not buring bridges but as far as taking a step back in pay to get a better gig..? I'd add in that if you have a family and are supportive its your job to bring home money. Great advice
Thanks for your insite. The information in these videos are the lessons they are not teaching in the welding schools. A valuable resource indeed
Im pumped to find my next gig I dragged my last one because I was welding all galvanized metal ... ive never traveled before but it seems like that's where the money is I just don't know how to go about finding the best way
My biggest hurdle is that I wasted 4 years getting a degree 😂 that and all the negativity from nay sayers
By personal experience, life gets a lot easier when you stop worrying about what other people think and start worrying about yourself.
You didn't waste your time.. if you have a degree and work in trades you gain a lot more money
Lol I'm from Watford town, England :P
I'm pumped, starting welding school TODAY! I've got about a year's worth of aluminum mig welding experience but that's about it I'm hoping it'll help me as far as experience.
Me too
Hope ur show em how bad ass u r!
I know I am a very good welder, but 0 experience on pipe, I am good with stick, MIG, & torch, & once was ok with TIG. when I was in college I was the best welder in my class, but I didnt want to pursue, I just wanted to work on cars, but I have always loved welding
I have not been practicing, unsure if I should with a electric welder? or just wait until I get my vintage Hobart pipeliner welder going, as I know will be completely different welding. but I usually go back to normal no matter how many months I haven't welded within a few minutes of practice. so use 1 of my electrics to practice? or wait a few more weeks? depending on what else I got to do to the welder.
I would practice with the electric one. Any kind of welding is good to be doing.
How’s it going now ?
You're not kidding in Watford City. I live in a small town 20 miles east of williston, and there is a ton of pipeline work going on out here currently
Thank you so much for advice I’m in a high school welding class and love it my teacher let me cut some pipe and sand it some and tacked with mig in two shop days next day I’ll get to stick it
I’m pumped brother I was just stressing today about taking the right way
BEST ADVICE I'VE HEARD SO FAR AS A WELDER, now I don't know if you can read an answer all of these or not however I'm gonna try. So I've been welding for 15 years now got my certs in a trade school but never used them, so could you tell me how I'd renew them and start my career as a pipeline welder? Hope this reaches you, thank you for your video.
Also like how you showed us how to think out side of the box like how to build connections and gain knowledge and experience
Austin....good job with your new channel....this is a side of you we have not seen before....I worked pipeline in my younger days...my favorite job of my life. I encourage guys to try it and you have the right advice...Downside is your significant
other not wanting you on the road....If you love enough, find the right mate in life before you get too serious...Keep up the good work...your goal, always be the best guy on the job...so that boss calls your first on his next job...and enjoy the winters off and the great retirement plan...and new trucks and great, close brotherhood that Austin is in...
John Hunter Thank you for advice
Love the videos man. I weld stainless pipe now. But I travelled for about 6 years. Love that your letting people in on the travelling life style
This video made me feel a lot better and I feel a lot closer. My hurdle is I live on the west coast .
Keep up the hard work. What part of the west coast do you live on?
Take advantage of any connections that your welding school has! It got me in at a shop that does a lot of tube bundles and I'm hoping that my experience there will be attractive for a future employer somewhere down the road. I might need to practice my grinding to be a helper but hey that's cool. Hustlin'
Definitely pumped!! My buddy and I are both learning how to weld to start our journey to the pipe line!!! Love your vids have helped so much!!!
Did you end up making it?
Great video. This is going to help a lot of welders out! I love your honesty, keep it up! Thanks from Alaska!
Videos like this always help me thank you
believe in the lord first whippersnappers, the journey is not easy you will need a shoulder to lean on..
Isn't that the truth!

America needs more folks like Austin. 👍
@@arosswelding what age do you think is a bit pate in the game to start in the pipeline field with no experience?
yea ok thats why you have to work your ass off instead of sitting around and praying lmao fuck off

My pleasure. That’s fantastic! I’m glad to hear it!
Used to get scrap pipe and structural from tear down on subcontract jobs. 8 in. Pipe all day long. To practice on. Etc. Pits and so on.

I love watching y’alls channel, I took a leap and I’m gonna start boilmaking monday on a turnaround and traveling around on the rollercoaster. This is one of my favorite videos, thank you for all the information.
That’s awesome! I love the leap! That’s that’s what it takes.
he is SOOOOOO right... good video.THANKS
I’m glad you like the videos. I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Plenty more to come. Thanks for watching!

How long have you been welding? And where do you work right now?
Austin Ross i have been welding for 3 years now. trying to work for myself as a mobile welder for people around town
I graduated from the welding institute a couple of weeks ago and I'm looking for a job
Just started my first week of welding in college
You bet! I’m glad it’s helpful. Thanks for watching and sharing. It’s helpful.
Waiting for the next class to start super pumped thanks for the content and helping others try and make it to where you are
I'm down in Pecos, tx..
How's it going man?
@@ottoyisanoba5902 if im honest not great, turns out I suck at studying and haven't been getting any theory done
